First timers here. We were initially going to go to saritas but ended up Parking in their spot so we went in instead. I ordered 2 fish tacos plate they were pretty hefty came with pico guacamole cabbage it was delicious rice and beans great as well $6.99 for the combo also came with limes. I got my husband the carne asada plate with beans and rice we were surprised it had lettuce. He said it was very good he just wished it was wrapped tighter (the burrito) we go red salsa, extra limes, I didn't see a salsa bar which is something I like at taco shops but that's ok. Needless to say, I was heartbroken when I realized the number of mediocre Mexi meals I'd had in the surrounding La Mesa area and this little gem was just a few exits west. Fast forward to today, we stopped in and were just as impressed with the quality of this unassuming taco shop--we had a couple of breakfast burritos and each were perfection--the kind of quality and taste that you don't get easily in east county. Came here after being unsatisfied by Saritas. Had surf and turf burrito. Cheaper than Saritas, taste and quality is roughly the same. The surf part of the burrito was not impressive, shrimp while not rotten wasn't the freshest either. Fresh shrimp has that nice sweet crunchy texture. Well, not here, not this time. Foot traffic is good, so fresh turnover. Really can't think of a compelling reason to come back to this taco shop, except to say, if in the neihborhood and choosing between Saritas and this, I'd give this place a very slight edge. Not sure what all the rave reviews are for but my experience was not so much!! The only thing to rave about was the customer service, they're polite and nice, But their beans taste canned, their guacamole tastes like Dean's with tomatoes added to it, and their salsa lacks flavor. This place is pretty good. The place isn't much, it's just an old building next to a bar and a few shops. In spite of the low key setting the food is really good. There aren't many good and cheap Mexican food places and the San Diego area and this is definitely one of the great ones. I ate some carne asada fries and they were crunchy and the meat tasted fresh. Stopped by based off Yelp reviews since I was in the area. It's a smaller hole in the wall Mexican food shop. These typically are the best ones and this place proves it once again. Was greeted by David in the front who was very friendly. Ordered a Carne Asada Burrito with a side of beans and rice, it was only $8. David scooped me some chips and handed me some salsa. Normally skeptical of free chips but free is always nice. These chips were fresh and fried perfectly. The salsa, while it looks thin, is flavorful and has a good kick, not overwhelmingly hot. The salsa verde is also nice and tangy like your traditional salsa verde. Mildly spiced, good for those who don't like it hot. The rice and beans were excellent. Spiced well and much better rice than typical spots. Not bland like a lot of other spots. The only thing that may bother some is the carne asada burrito has lettuce. Not a problem for me but just make sure to ask without if that's your thing. Burrito was a good size. Not massive and def not small. Highly recommend it for anyone in the area. Seems like if you're from the area you're either for La Posta or Sarita's... I myself have gone back and forth but ultimately I give the edge to La Posta... the food and hot sauce just have more flavor (try the California w/ adobada!) and the guys working there are always super nice, the complete opposite of the bitchy chicks over at Sarita's. i live about a mile and half from this place and my wife and I LOVE it. The staff member who always helps us (don't know his name but he always wear a black baseball cap) is super friendly and easy going. I've never had a bad meal here. I grew up on this stuff. They get it right every time and the service is always perfect. I've been going here since I was a little kid, I am now in my early 30's, and I can honestly say I've never had a bad experience here. They can do everything right, but one thing that I find unique here is the way they do their rolled tacos. The cheese is in small crumbles (Cotija I presume?), they also use some sort of seasoning on them, and you can pick up each rolled taco without the toppings falling everywhere. This is the food I miss most when I am outside of California. They even have a nice seating area and sufficient parking.
