The environment stands out the most from this small Resto. This place is full of people which universally has to be a good sign! Reasonably prices house wines which taste amazing and tapas available, although we couldn't order a huge range of them because none of the staff could speak enough English to discuss with us the options. read more

There's a reason this place has been open for 70 years! I had trouble finding this place initially, but I'm glad I didn't give up! I ordered one of everything and it was fantastic! The waiter was so nice and friendly, explaining everything in English! I loved all of it but had to order another sausage even though I was full because I didn't know when I was going to be able to come again! The portions are good for their price!!! Please come! It's simplicity at it's best but he flavors do not lack whatsoever! P.S. place is very small so look out for tables! read more

Nice place popular with the locals. We had the fried sardines and a few small beers. Nice bartender and waiter. Perfect for a quick stop

Ideal for a quick bite and some mediocre wine. The tapas were very good. The fried smelt, anchovies, bread and tomato, and bread and chorizo and of course olives were all delicious It seemed like a one man show. The place definitely gets a lot of press with the yelp stickers, timeout magazine posts, etc which unfortunately has probably driven up prices. read more

La Plata - Sausage on bread - Tapas/Small Plates Near Me - Barcelona, B

If Ernest Hemingway was still alive and roaming the streets of Barcelona and found La Plata, it would be one of his favorites and I'm sure great writing material. I just happened to stumble upon La Plata while touring around with a friend/local of Barcelona, when I noticed La Plata from a short distance away. Before I even step foot inside, I could tell this place had simple and wonderful authentic Catalan experience written all over it. A small place, seemingly a perfect "local/fishermans" hangout, inside is warm and calm, and the options for eat and drink are simple, direct. €1 Wine in Tinto, Rosa, and Blanco (I recommend the Tinto), Pescaditos Fritos, and a very few other small dishes. Embrace the balmy Barcelonian evening and go here. Of all the places I noticed and visited, this was my sure favorite, largely because of it's warm and tucked away authentic atmosphere. Oh yea, and the great 1 euro wine. This place is the real deal. read more

the place was packed, as we saw people waiting inside and outside. but here's a tip, especially for small places. JUST TAKE THE SEAT. we went up to the boss and he just offered us a plate of pescadito (fried anchovies), so we just took the small spot at the bar, despite many people that had been waiting around. The pescadito was pretty good. Then, we got pan con tomate. we didn't really like the flavor of it ourselves. But, we did enjoy the pinxcho (toast) with sausage, as the flavor of the tomato was more subtle and supportive. while we understand the appeal of the boldness of La Plata serving only six tapas, we genuinely did crave for more. this review doesn't really reflect this since it is more of our personal taste than the restaurant objectively. Though, we did see a lot of people around us enjoying it. In fact, the guy sitting next to us had come to the restaurant three times within two days ( day 1 dinner, day 2 lunch & dinner). read more

Pescaditos are delicious, beer was great, and the servers were very friendly. Recommend you order two of everything, relax and people watch. This place is very good for a quick meal on the go and close to a lot of tourist attractions. read more

A great tiny gem! Offered a small tapas menu but my friends and I enjoyed everything! Definitely a bit tight for a crowd. I'd say a group of 4 is maybe the max they can accommodate. The people there were awesome and very helpful! read more

Went there a couple of times when I was in Barcelona for business. The food is pretty good, but the local beer... Well, it was incredible. Try the Estrella Dam beer, you won't be disappointed. I will be back the next time I'm in Barcelona. read more

Amazing little local places. Great prices, great tapas and great wine! Very small so you may have to stand, but it's totally worth it. Very friendly people and great service! You won't be disappointed!! read more

It doesn't get more classic than this. La Plata has been there for years and years and years, and it'll probably stay there many more. The concept is simple yet, in its essence, it is what Mediterranean food is about: simple, few ingredients, no sauces, no fancy cooking, just high quality food. Do not bother in asking for the menu, or trying to guess what could you get. La Plata has only 3 different plates: chorizo (cooked, not fried) on a piece of bread; tomato salad (tomato, onion, olives and anchovies), and of course (the star) fresh fried sardines. Man, these sardines are good! Fresh (it doesn't get fresher than that... otherwise they would be swimming by themselves) and fried. Simple. And good. Oh and of course wine... at 0.80 euro de glass!!! (small, but good who cares? at that price you can ask for more). I used to go there every couple of weeks. Now, every time I go to Barcelona I must go and pay my respects. And in the process, have some sardines. read more

This is a scam. The server didn't want to give us tap water. Plus at the end he ended up charging us more than the price in the menu! Will never come back here !!! read more

Loved LOVED loved...this place! So simple yet so perfect! Food is limited but all authentic and very inexpensive....and did I mention, DELISH!Atmosphere is inviting and lovely! Makes you feel like you're a local! read more

La Plata - a MUST when in BCN! Great people, wonderful food, good drinks! - Tapas/Small Plates Near Me - Barcelona, B

Visiting Barcelona with a friend, we decided to go to a good tapas restaurant in the Barri Gòtic where we were staying. The restaurant La Plata is already well renown and rated, AND THIS IS A PLACE TO GO. Simple, tasty and friendly. This place looks like Barcelona. read more

This was second stop of the night. Limited menu but the wine is good. Wifey liked the fried anchovies and the wine is 1.1 euro. €5 after dinner snack. read more

Locals were blown away I found this place. A bit of a walk towards the beach, but still relatively close to the center of the city, this stop is worth a trip at night. Struck up great conversations with locals and the owner. I recommend the anchovies and a cold beer. Delicious! read more

This tiny spot is nothing short of amazing. No fanciness, (although I do covet the tiles on the wall). This tiny spot in the heart of Barcelona's Gothic Quarter is a must go to travel destination for all true foodies. MAD RESPECT for a place that only offers 4 plates, and they do the 4 simply, and with perfection! The fried whole small fish are gutted and cleaned, then fried whole and seasoned. You shove the entire thing in your pie hole and down your gullet. No whining allowed regarding the head and the bones. The fish is so small it is unnoticeable! Also did not know that a simple salad of tomato, onion, olives, and olive oil could be THIS damn good. (Wifey and I are debating whether it is the quality of the EVOO or the produce). The other 2 tapas offered is a pan con tomate, (nice bread slice with tomato rubbed on it), topped with a very nice anchovy, nothing like the nasty ones from a can in the US. The other is the same aforementioned bread with a "Butifarra," the local available everywhere Catalonian sausage. Deliciousness! You further will be hard pressed to find house wines this good anywhere. We had the house red and were delighted that it was mildly chilled. The pour it right out of a barrel and into a 750ml bottle that is set at your table. Trust me, everywhere in Barcelona that this is done, they know exactly how many "copas" you've had, so don't worry if you don't want the entire bottle as we consumed. Cannot say enough great things about this place! read more

Delicious, freshly prepared plates using local ingredients. We enjoyed the white wine served tremendously. Would definitely come again!

Pushy and rude service... the fried fish was good, sausage was decent but I wouldn't come here because they make you feel unwelcomed, particularly the waiter. Very impatient, I tried to ask what the tapas were, since I don't know the language, he was very rude kept saying they only had sardines, salad and sausage without explaining further when I asked how they were cooked. Then I asked for plates and he said they don't provide them even though the folks eating besides us did. Just unwelcoming! read more

I had a beer and 2 tapas, and the bill was €10 - which was more than I would expect for such simple tapas and a bottle of beer. It's basically a hole in the wall with 4-5 small tables and not much more. read more

They made me feel like home although I did not speak Spanish. This place stands out with a pure simplicity, it has a history, and it definitely has a "soul". Ordering was made extremely easy with the instructions first ("we have four tapas") and suggestions ("you should have red wine"). If you are looking for luxury and fancy stuff this is not your place, however if your focus is different, go and grab something. You'll love it! read more

Wow this place was so simple but so great and cheap. This place was in front of where I was staying and I always saw a line and saw its great reviews, so I decided to try it out. For context, I'm not a huge seafood lover (aside from sushi) but I found the fried anchovies to be so delicious. At first, I was a tad nervous but it was great. I'm also not a huge beer drinker but the beer they served, San Miguel, was also really good. It's probably found at any restaurant around here but this is just where I tried it. I had the bread with olive oil and tomato (pan con tomate), fried anchovies (pescaditos) and the tomato and onion salad (ensalada). Even the simple salad was awesome. The onions weren't too "onion-y" nor did they leave a lingering taste in your mouth for he rest of the night. My total was 8.5 euros which is super cheap. It was super busy at 8 pm but I was able to squeeze in at the standing bar. I wouldn't come with a huge group unless youre okay with eating outside while standing and ordering from a window. But overall I loved this place! read more

Great place to pop in for wine while roaming the Barri. The place is small and completely filled up. The bartenders (owners?) were quick and friendly. The menu is simple and the anchovies looked great but we had just finished dinner. It definitely a homey, cute spot worth stopping into. read more

Cute place with a 70+ year old menu. Fried fish was tasty. Very busy at in the evenings!

Way way wayyyyy overrated! This place has like two things on the menu, so if you are hungry, just know this is a place to only have a snack. There is very little seating, so you may have to stand. I ordered these small little fried anchovies and they were cold and sitting on the counter for a while. I dunno, I don't get the reviews. Go to Sommorosotto for some amazing food. read more

Food was amazing, fresh and soo good! We went fairly late at night and the place was packed. Traditional tapas style, there is no menu it's a "this is what we're serving" eating experience. Wine portions are very generous and delicious, and there is a wonderful apple like liqueur served with pastry. The food is very simple, fresh and delicious! The atmosphere is truly authentic of Barcelona, I'll be back one day! read more

Wine is amazing, 5 stars for that! And an amazing and very tiny shop. Have 4 dishes, sausage, tomato salad, fried fish and fish on bread. The food is not my exact type of flavor, but an experience for sure! If you want to try something special, try fried fish. The fish tastes good, but the look of eating the whole fish is a bit frightening. Good for easier lunch or starter. read more

Small and cozy tapas place with a lot of personality. The pescadito was fresh and crunchy, while the pan con tomate was delicious. It's one of those places that make you feel the local culture. read more

My favorite experience in Barcelona was found in this place. I felt like I was part of the culture. The fried anchovies, the tomato and onion salad and the wine is all phenomenal. This place is a must if you're visiting Barcelona, I'll be sure to revisit. read more

CHECK YOUR BILL!!! We did not have a good experience here and were surprised at all the fantastic reviews. The menu is the chalkboard with 3-4 tapas they are serving. The drinks were not listed, and when we asked about prices (we saw some glasses, refillable bottles, and carafes) the waiter seemed annoyed and impatient. We decided to order 1 of each of the tapas. We had an estimate of $13-14 total, but when the bill came it was $23.00!! We asked for an itemized receipt and the waiter came back with one, with $5.00 listed twice under "various". We asked what that was, and he said he gave us more food than we asked which was not true as we compared our dishes to other tables with one person eating. We explained to him that if any "extra" food was given without our request or consent, we should not be responsible for the charges. The owner quickly calls the waiter and they come back with a different recipe and says that they will take off $5.00. (The receipt still had $5.00 various on it and they could explain what that was except for the extra food explanation). We just paid it even though it didn't feel right. It was shady and confusing, I would not recommend coming here unless you are familiar with the language. They are obviously preying on tourists. read more

Life doesn't get much better than this: a small plate of fried sardin, fresh out of the kitchen, a simple salad of heavenly tomatoes, onions and olives and vino tinto in tiny cups! La plata knows how to make good food, you may have only 4 choices but they're done to perfection. Went back there twice in 2 days and it's one of the reasons I'm sorry to leave Barcelona. Don't miss out on this place! read more

This is a place that does only a few things, and does each of them very very well. A treat and worth any wait you may encounter. The fried anchovies, which you eat whole (don't look if that bothers you) are simply perfect, and pan con tomato defines this simple combination and makes all others a disappointment. I could not stop eating the tomatoes and onions (so sweet!). read more

Best bravas with eggs I have ever had in Spain. The crowd is great and more importantly the menu - which changes daily is incredible.

Everything about la plata is amazing. The small selection for the menu is perfect. Los pescados fritos are a must try! The service is friendly and the vibe of the people is always so fun! I cannot wait to go back. read more

I think the hours posted are off - we went at 4 and 5 pm on a Thursday and it was closed, but it was open when we checked again at 6:30. In short, it was worth wandering around for hours on La Rambla and Barri Gotic to try this place. There are no menus, but there are only 4 different tapas offered and 3 different wines. The wines are served in small drink glasses, and cost slightly more than 1 euro each. There is a red wine, a white wine, and a rose - we tried the red and rose and were happy with both. There are 4 choices in terms of food - a plate of salad (tomato, onion, olives with olive oil, 2 anchovies), a small plate of fried fish (looks exactly like Taiwanese style fried smelt, lightly battered and deep fried whole), a plate of bruschetta which looked like it had the tomato juice rubbed directly onto the bread, and a sausage on a small piece of toast. The sausage didn't seem overly fatty and was well flavored. The bruschetta was my least favorite, because I'm not such a big fan of bread, but I really enjoyed everything else - very simply fresh and delicious. We had a great dinner here at a great price - 4 plates of fresh food and 2 cups of wine for a total of less than 12 euros for 2 people! I fully recommend skipping the overpriced tourist trap places on La Rambla and walking over to this tiny hole in the wall place in the Barri Gotic. read more

The small fried fish and tomato salad amazing! The beers ice cold! I would give this place ten stars if I could. Menu only about five items but what they do is simply the best. The old guy serving at the bar is a machine incredible never waited for anything. read more

This place is soooo good and typically frequented by the locals, not tourists. It is a hidden gem. It prepares only 4 tapas: anchovies on tomato bread, sausage on tomato bread, tomato/ onion salad and fried sardines. These may sound weird or interesting... ALL were sooo tasty. Our friends grabbed beers and Coca-Cola and left there full without huge dents to our pockets at all. I highly recommend this place... the trip to the Gothic Quarter to visit it is well worth it. The vibe is warm and welcoming... food comes lightning fast. DELICIOUS!! read more

Really good tapas, but as everyone said, only 4 tapas offered, the same, every day, for 70 years. So they mastered it (I would too). The fried fish is very good, but as other reviewer mentioned, the tomato salad, anchovy and sausage on bread are nothing spectacular nor special. read more
