I really wanted to go here, I mean it's a more chill version of the FAMOUS conservas pilgrimage site. My wife was really a trooper; even when she spotted a massive 2" Indiana Jones roach scuttling up the wall. "Hey it's a restaurant, there's food, there's gonna be roaches, right?" We said ,cringing. The table next to us were less sanguine and packed off out the door. "It came from the outside, we have no bugs here" the waiter tutted as he cleared their table. "Riiiight, I thought as soon nodded & smiled back. Then as we were eating our first dish, a roach actually scuttled under our table and ACROSS my wife's sandaled foot. The Waiter was no rookie and he lunged across and we heard a CRUNCH. (!). He called the other server over with a napkin and he expertly cleaned up the gooey, crunched mess. Even I was broken. We immediately asked for La Quenta. No discount or apology offered. I got the distinct impression that this was a nightly occurrence. I was in Barcelona for a month a couple years ago and came here multiple times. It's decorated like an old dive bar, but the food is incredible- for starters the smoked cod with the tomatoes bread is is probably my favorite dish they serve. The sardines and olives are also excellent. For a main course, you can't go wrong with the octopus or beef cheek, both excellent. The staff is also very warm and welcoming. Come here, have lunch and a few vermouths then maybe take a walk down to the park, and you're in for a lovely day. I can't wait to go back someday. read more

On our trip to Barcelona, it was recommended by friends to visit this Tapas bar. We did that several times. We found it homey and welcoming. A local's place with local tapas.....not trendy. Enough English was spoken to get your point across. ask for the English menu...it helped us. The house Vermouth (Vermut de casa) was very good and nothing was outrageously priced. Their House vermouth is available by the bottle if you'd like to bring some back. It felt like a very comfortable place to chat, eat and drink with friends....like you've gone there for years. In my experience this was one of the best tapas/wine places in Barcelona. It is located further north of the main tourist areas toward the Gaudi park, Park Guell. I liked the traditional setting and decor of the bar/restaurant, and the food and wines represented the local region. The octopus was extraordinary. As many yelpers already mentioned, Bar Bodega Quimet is definitely a hidden gem tapa bar for a casual meal out. 2.5 Euro draft beer, amazing amazing amazing grilled octopus dish was one of the best we had (think super tender, served really hot (instead of lukewarm), full of flavor!) and the best cut of the Iberico ham (8 Euro for the half portion but plenty for 2 people) served with the tomato bread (2 Euro). We left full and satisfied! We got there a bit early at 1pm but the place was full at 2pm (the normal Spanish lunch time). read more

These characteristics are meticulously built into the foundation. However, when traveling in a foreign country it can be difficult to distinguish the legit from the imposter. Luckily, Yelp led us to Bar Bodega Quimet. This cozy, hole-in-the-wall tapas bar was simply magnificent. Now a lot of places in Barcelona claim to make their own vermouth. What I think they mean is that they barrel their own vermouth. All you need to know is that it's something you need to order before you start your dining adventure. This aperitif will direct your appetite in the right direction. Tomato Bread - the best we had in Barcelona, and we had a ton of it! We saw the chef in the kitchen grate the tomatoes on top of the crusty bread. It wasn't too watery like other restaurants, it was delightful. Iberian Ham - the presentation set the flavor jets to a new level. The velvety texture of the rolled meat locked with my tongue in perfect harmony. (tears were shed during the consumption of this plate, yes the entire plate) Octopus - another dish that left me speechless. The tender octopus was buttery yet crispy on the outside. Each bite was better than some meals I've had in my life. There were a few other plates we sampled and they were also wonderful. The staff here politely spoke with us in rough English, but we were able to share laughs and pleasantries. Pro tip* they like to eat late in Spain. If you dine on American hours, there will never be a wait for a table. No words, just memories. And you can't take that away from me! read more

There's a small fan in the corner that really does nothing, but when the vermouth is that good and the octopus is that tender and flavorful, I'm am NOT complaining. This place is in the extremely charming Gracia neighborhood. I had the grilled octopus and am still Thinking about it nearly three weeks later. It was exceptional. We walked in with the most basic of Spanish and they gave us an English menu. The garbanzo bean and spinach dish had my husband wonder how we could recreate it at home. I am staying around the corner and found Bar Bodega tonight. Went along to eat and drink with the locals. The food, drink,service and hospitality was fabulous. We tried a couple of different beers and wine along with the seafood plate. Russian salad , papas which is a very nice potato dish and the highlight of the food was Chorizo scrambled eggs...yum.. We asked the waiter what drink many of the locals were drnking...Vermouth. We have never tasted it before..it is red wine with some herbs and an olive....tasted sensational and will be trying it again in Spain. Had a great night for a bargain price. Enjoyed a fantastic mid-afternoon vermut service with tapas here, and would easily mark this among the top dining/drinking experiences I had in Barçelona. At least as far as casual bar/tapas experiences go. I have no idea if this is linked at all to Quimet & Quimet, however I did find this place on Yelp while in Barçelona a few years back, and it did not disappoint. First off, the house-made vermut is incredible. I could sit and sip that business all afternoon long. Leave the soda bottle please! The tapas? Straightforward and delicious. The cockles were exceptional. In fact, everything we ordered was on point. Incredible drinking food. The space is dark and, at least when we were there mid afternoon, not crowded. Service was friendly enough. Totally welcoming. Seems like primarily a locals place and I'd love to see it stay that way. Will continue to be a must-visit for me. read more

This is a very small bar/restaurant that is a favorite amongst locals. It really is a hole in a wall but is buzzing every night. We got there on a fairly early night but the bar was packed and all the tables as well. It was overwhelming because you didn't know who to talk to. We got our name down with one of the servers who was very pleasant and was happy to help us. Got a drink from bar and waited about 30 min until a couple decided they had their fill and finally a table with our name on it. They are known for their house made vermouth so ordered a glass while we looked over their wine list. The wine list was so inexpensive, so many to choose from. I thought the prices were by glass but it was for a bottle! Vermouth was a great starter, ordered a bottle of red, their famous potatoes, a seafood combo, pan con tomate, and a cured pork toast. A gem of a place hidden in a quiet street just off Pg. De Gracia. Small, but not as cramped and claustrophobic as some other tapas bars, the wonderful service is warm and generous. We were given free plates / tastings of things simply because we had asked about them, and the portions of the tapas were extremely generous anyway. White asparagus was delicious, very sophisticated dressed and a dash of white pepper to allow the sweetness of the asparagus to shine. We also ordered clams, eggplant tartare, octopus, and tomato bread. Way too much given how massive the plates turned out to be. We went around 2-3pm so it was busy but bar seats were available. Recommended: - Gazpacho (lots of garlic and salt, I loved it, served in a highball glass) - Octopus / Pulpo with mashed potatoes - Jamon iberico (we preferred it paired with manchego) - VERMOUTH (homemade apparently) - at least try it, I think it's €1.50. They'll bring soda water if you want to cut it, although I found it better straight. Amazing spot recommended to us by a local shopkeeper. We were the only non-locals inside when we went, but the staff was incredibly helpful and attentive. Gazpacho was tremendous: spicy, creamy, and refreshing all at once. Jamon Iberico was solid. Bacalao Ahumado (cod tartare) was incredible, great texture on the bacalao and loved the olive oil sauce. Just the place we needed on a cold day, it was a cozy little spot, but the wait staff moves quick and we got a table right away. It old school decorations and darker atmosphere gives the appearance of a place where people are planning a revolution. They had a great beer selection and the tapas were fantastic, would recommend huevos revueltos, the cheese plate and eggplant tartar. I was eager to come here for a long time- and I should say, the wait was well worth it. House vermouth was flavorsome, with the right amount of sweetness, and the food - even better. Somehow even something as simple as bread with tomato tastes incredible, and tomato confit with salt cod and anchovy paste completely blew my mind. I then asked for 1/2 plate of cheese from Extremadura thinking that it would be like a piece of each of three cheese varieties - but it was so generous, in the center of the city you would pay twice for the same amount. The service was also great - fast and polite. Even if you are not around, it is absolutely worth taking the trip to Gràcia just to check out this great little bar. read more

I cannot recommend this place highly enough. The food is very interesting, the decor charming, and the prices just right. The only caveats are that the menu is slightly adventurous and not available in English. For example, the the piquantito cheese is extremely "piquant," meaning smelly, not "picante" meaning spicy. However, there is a printed menu in addition to the chalkboard. I highly recommend the variety plate (slightly adventurous) and the skewers of pickled vegetables and chorizo-stuffed olives.
