Take out review:…read more Ordered Caesar salad and fettuccine con funghi. Also got to try the cavatelli con melenzane and the argula salad. The pastas were cooked perfectly. The dishes really do captivate your tastebuds. I am personally not a fan of eggplant so I wouldn't order the cavatelli. The crispy prosciutto really complimented the Caesar salad and wasn't overpowering. Quiet Tuesday evening in the restaurant when we picked up our order.

Professional and courteous service was provided throughout the meal... Both still (not tap) and sparkling water was served, and even the bottles were sealed! Our group ordered a polenta stick and fried calamari as an appetizer to share. The calamari was fried with minimal flour so you will not feel super heavy, yet it still has a crunch to every bite. The polenta stick was new to me as I have never had polenta before, yet I won't turn down the offer. It was crispy on the outside, and soft inside, adding the marinara sauce gave more flavor to the blend polenta. Both appetizers would have tasted better if a little salt or more flavour was added. I have ordered the "tonnarelli zucca e porcini", aka mushroom pasta with butternut squash puree topped with burrata cheese. The pasta was made in-house and cooked to al dente, it has that doughy and chewy texture hence you could tell it's not the supermarket ones. The puree was light so it counteracted the heaviness of the pasta, yet it was little flavour, I was a little disappointed that there wasn't any flavour.

September 19/2025: Dinner with Danny/Renee…read more This is definitely a dive restaurant but it certainly has its charm. Indoor/outdoor seating is available but not a whole lot of it. The service was kinda slow but they eventually got the job done. Very limited menu...small pizza selection with just a couple of sandwiches & other items including chicken wings. The food was good but not fantastic. The wings were baked versus fried. They did come with potato wedges that were delicious. Ended the meal with a shared slice of coconut cream pie & chocolate banana cream pie. The owner was kind enough to provide free of charge Lemon Chello shooters which I love. As a note: the bathrooms were from the 1960's with a very old shared sink for wash up!

I had one of the worst dining experiences I've ever had at Salty Dogs in Vaughan (occurred July 7th…read more2026) I ordered a custom Margherita pizza with beef brisket and onions. After I had finished eating, I noticed what looked like a small sac or seed on my plate. When I opened it on a napkin, there were multiple small live maggots moving inside. I was completely shocked and immediately called the waitress over, who took it away. A gentleman (who appeared to be a manager) came back with the same napkin, but most of what I had seen had been wiped away. He claimed this was what the waitress had shown him. I explained that it was not in the same condition and that the live maggots had clearly been removed. Instead of taking my concerns seriously, he questioned why his waitress would lie and offered me a 10% discount. I explained that this wasn't about the money--it was about the fact that I may have eaten food contaminated with live maggots. Rather than showing concern, he asked why we continued eating the oysters if we had found maggots in the pizza. I had to explain that the pizza was my meal, while the oysters were ordered by the person I was dining with. They were completely unrelated. The situation only became more insulting. A manager later returned and said, "I heard you found extra protein in your pizza," making a joke about an extremely serious food safety issue. She then handed us the debit machine with our bill, which still included the full price of the pizza. The only item removed was an order of oysters that wasn't even mine, and they added a round of shots we had ordered earlier. The lack of professionalism, accountability, and basic concern for customer safety was unbelievable. At no point did anyone genuinely apologize, express concern that I may have consumed contaminated food, or handle the situation appropriately. Instead, I was met with disbelief, jokes, and an attempt to minimize what happened. Finding live maggots in your food is horrifying. The way the staff and management responded made an already terrible experience even worse. I left feeling disgusted, dismissed, and genuinely concerned about the restaurant's food safety standards. I would not recommend this restaurant based on both the food safety issue and the way management handled the situation.
