A big bowl of seafood in a delicious tomato and pepper stock.

Dear Tourists, if you're visiting our beautiful city and you want to try some real Mexican food, then venture to La Perla Del Pacifico. This is a Mexican style seafood restaurant with a touch of TexMex tossed in for good measure. I took my seafood loving administrative assistant there for AA day and it was a hit. This restaurant is not fancy, but the food is good and tasty and full of people speaking Spanish. The portions are from plentiful to so darn big you can't eat it all. There are several raw seafood options soups (aka: Calais), whole fried fish and so much more. Come in, study, order some food and get ready to nosh. Although this is NOT a high-end dining establishment, the prices are on the higher end, if you order one of the super-sized mojacate dishes. Go ahead--do it and just split the goods with some more of your dining companions.

Came across AguaChiles while scrolling TikTok and saw they were promoting their Pork Belly…read moreAguaChiles -- and I'm really glad we decided to check it out. We've been wanting to try something different from the usual, and this place absolutely delivered. From the moment we walked in, we were greeted promptly and treated with genuine kindness. Our waitress was polite, friendly, and attentive throughout the entire visit. To drink, we ordered a large hibiscus tea served in a mason jar. You can immediately tell it's made in-house -- incredibly fresh, with a subtle hint of lime. Easily one of the best hibiscus teas I've had, and far better than the powdered versions many places use. I wouldn't even hesitate to pay for refills. We also started with a Modelo (canned), crudo shrimp (2 pieces), Japanese peanuts, chamoy, and a sauce at the bottom of the plate that was unbelievably good -- likely one of their ceviche sauces. Whatever it was, it was packed with flavor. For entrees, my spouse ordered the Pork Belly AguaChile, and it was phenomenal. The pork belly was crispy, tender, and moist all at once, loaded with flavor. It came with a generous portion of very fresh guacamole, topped with julienned red onions and serrano peppers, plus four corn tortillas and a fresh salsa verde with the perfect amount of heat. My spouse isn't big on tortillas, so I happily made a few tacos myself -- no regrets. I ordered the Ceviche La Mamona, which included tender octopus, melt-in-your-mouth ahi tuna, perfectly cooked shrimp, avocado, onion, cucumber, tomato, and a black sauce that tied everything together beautifully. This was, without question, the best ceviche I've ever had. I've never been to Mexico, but this is exactly how I imagine it should taste -- incredibly fresh and perfectly balanced. They also serve it with crackers, tostadas, and two creamy salsas: one habanero and one jalapeño/serrano. Honestly, the ceviche alone could have been a full meal. If you're looking for generous portions, outstanding freshness, excellent service, and a truly memorable seafood experience, AguaChiles is the place. Next time, I'm coming back for the whole octopus, super tostada mixta, oyster preparado, queso flameado, fried oysters, and possibly a molcajete. I love food, and every meal here felt like an adventure.

The texture of fish is crunchy on the outside with a flaky, meaty texture on the inside . The wings are fried in a way that's just right. They are crunchy and the sauce adheres so well without making them soggy. The green beans, red beans, and wedges are great options for sides to accompany the fish and wings. It was my first time ordering from a place with this type of setup. It was so cool! I scanned my order on an iPad and open pops a locker door with my food. When I came up to the place it wasn't a sit down place to eat, but that you have to order which was confusing as there were a lot of other restaurants within the small space. There was a guy there that was picking up wing and he stated that they were the best and big pieces. So he showed me how to order. And I place my order as it was Wednesday dollar day for wings so I order wings. I had the parmesan garlic, lemon pepper. Let me tell you they were so good, the wait was too long but worth the wait. It best to order online then go pick up. The restroom were locked so that is why I gave 4 and we weren't able to speak with no one. If you need any special thing or extras please write it I. The space provided because they don't give you anything but what you order no napkin just nothing else. Enjoy and hope the you didn't forget to order anything special or extra as you won't get it.

The menu is exciting and the concept is definitely there--but unfortunately, my dining experience didn't quite live up to it. I ordered the pecan-crusted trout, which had a nice texture but lacked flavor and seasoning. The dirty rice was also underwhelming, with very little depth or seasoning, and the calamari was a bit rubbery. Overall, the food just didn't hit the mark for me. Service was also a bit inconsistent. During dinner, I found myself having to get up to grab my own salt and pepper, as well as my own place setting, which took away from the experience. That said, I did have a much better interaction the day before when my wife and I stopped by for a glass of champagne at the bar--the bartender was lovely and welcoming. On a positive note, the location is beautiful--right along the River Walk, which makes for a great ambiance and setting. I'd consider giving it another try, but hoping for more consistency in both food and service next time.

R&R is part of a hotel and since the weather was really nice, we decide to sit on the outdoor patio facing the river walk. They have a happy hour menu that runs from 3-6 pm and includes beer, wine and liquor specials and 8 small plate food options. I start off with a margarita on the rocks. When it comes out, the drink is good but could've used a bit more lime in the mix but not bad. For food, I go with the fried shrimp and catfish nuggets. When they come out, the plates are larger than expected and both come with fries. This could easily be shared with two or three people. Everything was friend to perfection, crispy on the outside, moist on the inside and seasoned well. The plates were wiped clean. I ordered a house pinot noir and it was a good. I didn't catch the brand name but would order it again. Overall, this was a great first experience at Roam & Range and will look forward to coming back to try more of the menu. Due to it's location, parking can be tricky so prep ahead.

I have not been around someone smoking in so long and the last place I want it is in a restaurant. The boil was decent. The problem is salt. There was so much salt on the sausage and other parts of the boil that it was not all edible. The crab in the boil was good, the shrimp was okay, the muscles okay. No one ate the sausage, most of the potatoes were left bc they were hard. I will say the calamari was the reason for the extra star. Everyone agreed the calamari was excellent. The sweet tea was great. There is graffiti on everything. The walls, the chairs, the leather , the decor. If your kids can read and you don't want to answer questions as a parent this is not the place for you. It was filthy, there was food all over the ground. When we sat down there was shrimp, French fries and potatoes under our table. We did not see a single person cleaning the floors. This was not a good night out. The man seemed upset we did not want the food to go. We didn't eat it there, why bring it home to throw it out?

But my best friends really wanted to give it another shot, so we went for it. And I have to say, they pretty much turned it around this time. The staff was super attentive, checking on us often and making sure we were well taken care of. It felt like they really wanted to make this a positive experience. The food was great: crawfish, shrimp, and snow crab with their signature spice blend that's definitely on the spicy side but absolutely delicious. We also tried the regular fries, and next time I'm definitely going for the sweet potato fries to keep it a little more glycemic-friendly. And here's a fun detail we loved: their Pepsi products were spot on. It's like the Pepsi equivalent of how McDonald's nails their Coke--perfectly carbonated and just right. So yes, there's still a little knot in my throat from that past hiccup, but this visit really helped untie it. We left happy and we'll definitely be back. If you had a rough experience before, I'd say give them another shot--this time, they really got it right.
