I can't believe I haven't left a review for La Palapa Too. This is our go to happy hour place since it's close to home. The margaritas are solid each time I go. I enjoy the chips and salsa. My friend enjoyed the chicken fajita. I have had the tacos and were pretty tasty. I like that they have outdoor seating when the weather is nice. The service is always spectacular. I don't go here enough to get to know the staff but everytime I go, the service has always been great. My significant other goes more for business meetings and he has always enjoyed the restaurant. read more

Stopped in for drinks and got fajitas to go. Drinks were pretty good but I didn't like the food and the portions were small. The food lacked flavor all the meat was dry,in my opinion and the steak could've been more tender and also could've been a better cut. We had dinner here tonight. The jalapeño poppers were very good and the Mexican chowder was excellent. The fajitas (steak) was unfortunately over cooked and very dry. The service was fair. The timing of the food was not good. We had to send back the fajitas because they came out the same time as our appetizers (probably why they came back later over cooked)! Look, I'm not rating this place 5 stars because it's some gourmet authentic experience. I'm rating it 5 stars because I was hungry, I didn't want to drive across town, and I wanted food now. This spot is perfect for that. It's right off the main road, parking is easy, and you don't have to circle the block three times to find a spot. We walked in, sat down, and the food was on the table in like 10 minutes. No long wait times, no trying to flag down a waiter for the check. They get you fed and get you on your way. It's standard Tex-Mex--hot, cheesy, and filling--but the real selling point is that it's zero hassle. Saw La Palapa Too while out in the maple lawn area. Decided to stop in to grab a margarita. Always love a good Mexican spot. We got there right after HH, so weren't able to grab any of the specials. I ordered a classic marg with don Julio. It was a good margarita. Didn't have a ton do the sugary sour mix which was a plus. I decided to grab one of their main dishes to try out the food. I ordered the grilled rainbow trout- al ajillo. Wasn't super impressed with this dish. It was a small sized piece of trout with a scoop of rice. I was hoping for a bit more flavor from the garlic cilantro butter and white wine sauce. I will certainly go back for drinks and to try some of the other dishes. Superb ambiance for a strip mall: wall art, painted, textured walls, archways, separate bar area. We ordered a vegetarian burrito, two beef tacos, street corn, Sprite, and agua fresca (tamarindo). Meet a friend here for dinner and we had a nice time! We got zero proof beer and a corona fit drinks and the salmon tacos and veggie enchiladas for mains. While it was nothing extraordinary, I still enjoyed it. My enchiladas could have used a bit of a kick. The chips and salsa are awesome. We enjoyed the outdoor seating and service was great too. Best Mexican food in HoCo! The chips and salsa are always fresh. I love the chicken and cheese used in the quesadilla. The fried ice cream is to die for (it isn't just vanilla ice cream rolled in frosted flakes). The service is fine. We never have to wait long for drinks, food, or the check. The ambiance is nice. There were about 5 dirty tables with the 4 servers/host standing at the hostess stand looking at their phones. He sent us right across the street to this wonderful restaurant. We were greeted warmly by the hostess and selected an outdoor table on this beautiful late summer night. La Palapa Too has a lot of potential, but fails miserably in its attempt to present itself as a good Mexican restaurant. I have eaten at a lot of Mexican restaurants over the years, and this one is definitely one of the worst. The interior decorating is very pleasing with its tiles floors and beautifully designed bar top. However, looks can be deceiving. When the chips and salsa are the best part of your entire meal, there is a serious problem in the kitchen. We started off with the loaded nachos. Unfortunately, it was more of a soup than a platter of nachos. Not only were all of the tortillas chips soggy, the toppings that were causing them to be soggy were completely tasteless. I ordered a beef taco with a bowl of tortillas soup. The tortilla soup was actually decent, but the beef taco was terribly bland as well. To make matters worse, I noticed that the beef/chili filling in the taco was the same as the beef in the loaded nachos. Some people might think that this is an okay practice in the restaurant business, but not if your beef/chili filing has the consistency of canned chili from the grocery store. Also, just because a dish contains ground beef, that does not mean that it can be used as a cheap filler. The idea is to serve your customers great food, not subpar food in order to turn a profit. And to put a fitting end to such a terrible dinning experience, I ordered the street corn but got a sad excuse for street corn instead. I do not know if the cooks in the kitchen were just lazy, but a piece of mushy yellow corn covered in spicy salt does not do the tradition of street corn any justice. It is supposed to be grilled (not boiled), and covered in cheese, smokes spices, lime juice, and green onions or cilantro (at least). This felt like it was just a pathetic attempt to get my order out of the way by the kitchen staff. The worst part is that they were not even busy. It really is a shame because the restaurant could be a great one. Unfortunately, it is not anywhere near that level yet. I ordered the chicken quesadilla and it used to be the bomb. Why when it came out it looked a kids meal. This quesadilla used to be quite large and absolutely amazing. Now it is absolutely absurd and you're still charging $17. I was completely underwhelmed. We have been coming here for years and this is the first time I have been utterly disappointed and dissatisfied. Not sure what you're doing Lapa Lapa but this will certainly keep me from coming back. I hadn't been here in years, but a craving for a margarita on a hot sunny day brought me back to the location and it delivered! We found parking close by, even though the lot can get full, and were seating quickly with friendly service. I tried the cadillac margarita, which is an upgrade and only $1 more than the house, and this is probably my favorite restaurant margarita! The taste was on point and it definitely had a kick. We also ordered the ceviche, I got a Mexican salad with chicken, and my husband ordered the crab and shrimp enchiladas. The ceviche was nice and fresh and my husband enjoyed his burrito. I was disappointed in the salad at first because I could not taste the dressing, so I asked for more dressing on the side. When it came, I noticed it was a totally different color from whatever was on my salad and it made a world of difference! Their Mexican vinaigrette needs to be bottled- it's so good! My fiance and I LOVE the idea of La Palapa Too. The outdoor seating is ideal for a beautiful summer day, the bar is great for watching sports (rarely too crowded for bar seating), and the food is really good and comes out hot and quickly. The first basket of chips and salsa are on the house too! $1 off margs for happy hour until 6pm. The main problem that keeps us from coming more often is the, generally, abysmal outside seating service. Several weeks ago, our server spent 90% of the time flirting with a girl at the next table over - after waiting 10 minutes to get him to run a credit card, we left cash. For National Tequila Day, I had to return my frozen raspberry margarita, as it was made with half the mix with huge chunks of ice. The remade marg was better, but still had huge chunks of ice - waitress claimed new bartender. No matter what time we arrive during happy hour, we are charged full price and have to request the happy hour prices. We would love to be regulars for these wonderful summer evenings, but with outdoor service continually being a disappointment, it's hard to justify it. read more

Service: Upon arrival I met with the hostess who promptly sat us out doors (by our request) in a nice shaded part of the patio area. After being seated a nice basket of chips and good salsa arrived...but no water. After 10 minutes a service arrived to take care of another guest in the outside. I tried to wave her down. Nothing. 5 minutes later she returns and promptly ignores me again. After another 10 minutes I have to go inside to the hostess to see if someone could stop by the table. After my request we had a decent waiter stop by to assist. Food: Food was surprisingly very good. Jalapeño margarita was great and the enchiladas were also good. Atmosphere: I do have to mention that though the place looked recently renovated, the exterior seating area looked as if it had not been swept or cleaned in a while. When we walked into La Palapa Too I immediately admired the décor. It was very welcoming and attractively decorated without going over the top. There's a nice bar area, a couple of dining rooms, and a very pleasant patio for dining. We sat down to read the menu and our waiter came to take our order. There was a little language barrier and we asked if they had half pitchers of frozen margaritas. He wrote something down but we ended up with a full pitcher. Honestly, the margarita was pretty icy and not very strong so it worked out okay. We decided to mix and match so I ordered the two crispy tacos platter and Rich ordered chicken wings. Rich loves Old Bay and the chicken wing I tried was fried to perfection, though it was really salty with the seafood spice. I would love to have the wings again but with a different seasoning! My tacos came in a holder which was really nice and kept them from getting soggy. Rich ate the rice and beans so I didn't taste them, but the tacos were really good. They have a very extensive menu and it's a little out of the way for us, but we might drive up to try some of the other dishes. So the downside were the icy, rather lackluster margaritas which were not inexpensive. And after we finished our meal we waited quite a while for our check. When our waiter finally appeared he confessed he had been distracted in the bar area watching the World Cup. At least he was honest! read more

I arranged a surprise birthday party for my wife in December this year. We had the back room which holds about 30 people. Diana and juan cold not have been more hospitable. Also, Azad who took care of us was awesome! the food was delicious and the margarita's flowed. We reserved for two hors but they ended up letting us use it for three. Food was decent, but the waitress was one of the worst I have ever had at any restaurant. Went for lunch with a group of people, and the restaurant was far from busy. After being seated, it took about half an hour before the waitress to ask us about drinks; an hour before she took food orders. While eating she did not come around to refill drinks, fix a mistake with one of the meals, or check up on us. After finishing eating, it was 20 minutes before we saw her. She was spotted sitting inside on her cell phone. When we finally got our check, it had a built-in gratuity of something like 18-20% because our party had ~8 people. My impression was that the waitress knew she would get a good tip, regardless of how poor her service was, so she was generally rude an inattentive. I decided to give a 10% tip on the receipt instead, which was still far more than she deserved, mostly to make a point. She ran the receipt with the original original 18-20% tip, despite me very clearly crossing it out and writing in a 10% tip. I told her that I was not going pay above a 10% tip, and she told me that she will not change it to 10%. She basically threatened to call the manager on me, to which I obviously said yes, do that. After telling her to get the manager, she did not, and instead brought back the receipt with the correct tip. I'm sure she knew we would tell the manager how horrendous the service was. Anyway, I hope that was a lesson to the waitress that just because there is a group of people, she can't give terrible service and count on a fat tip. For the restaurant: I understand having a built-in tip for groups so servers don't work hard to only to have cheap customers leave them with nothing, but if servers are abusing the guaranteed fat tip, then the restaurant needs to rethink that policy.
