I know I've written a great review for pizza for a couple other places in Naples, but the pizza…read morehere takes it. In reading the other reviews, there can be long waits here, and I can certainly understand why. Even in a city with so many pizza spots, this one stands out in the very best way. I also wanted to address a misconception. Multiple reviews here mention how the pizza is doughy in the center. Proper Napoli pizza is supposed to be this consistency. It's supposed to be runny and doughy in the middle, so they 100% do that right at this place. Also, it will not be sliced; you are to cut it yourself. We lucked out not having to wait. We went to Gino e Toto Sorbillo (which is supposed to be the original restaurant) and sat in the horseshoe. Our server Francesco was fantastic, giving great recommendations and being friendly and welcoming. We shared the margheritta bufala DOP and diavolla. Both were excellent! I preferred the margheritta whereas my husband preferred the diavolla. I am convinced that you really can't go wrong here though. The pizza dough itself had great elasticity while also having a thin yet light, fluffy, and airy crust. Apparently, they ferment the dough for 48 hours. The difference is striking. The pomodoro Italiano sauce is also so simple yet tasty and well seasoned. For me, the saltiness of the salame in the diavolla overpowered the delicious other flavors of the pizza, but it was still tasty. My husband loved that one though. In my opinion, this place has achieved pizza perfection, and I literally cannot imagine how anyone could make a better or more perfect pizza. Overall, this is a great casual spot, and I would not hesitate to come here during my next visit to Naples...even one hour would be worth the wait.

If you're in the historic district in Naples, depending on who and how you ask, you may get pointed…read morein different directions to Sorbillo's. Why? Multiplie locations exist, six in Naples, three on the same street! At first I wondered if it was a "Ray's Pizza" situation* though turns out they are all legitimately related, arising from the success of the pizzeria opened in by Gino Sorbillo. Aside from Naples they have locations in several other Italian cities (Rome, Milan, Bergamo, Turin, Bologna, Padua, and Genoa), even a location on Tokyo. This specific location where the pin is dropped on the Yelp map is for Gino e Tito Sorbillo, eponymously named for the now famous pizza chef and his brother, and the nicer sit-down version of the restaurant.** This is the original shop where it all began, and the business' historical headquarters. Outside, you'll see a couple paper cutouts of the chef, with a chef's coat and a smile. The unwavering popularity of their pizza is undeniable--one look at the crowds outside this storefront and it's immediately apparent. Be prepared as the wait is not for the faint-hearted or the extremely hungry. Luckily I had a snack before arriving (see separate review for Sfogliatelle Mary). 9:05pm: I arrived to a semi-circular crowd centered around the doorway of Gino e Tito Sorbillo. Headed up the hostess stand and she said 20-25 minutes so I figured why not. 9:30pm: the crowd around the door seems to have increased, at least stayed the same, a handful of parties were called up. I realize now that the hostess gives everyone the same estimate. Watching many parties that were there when I arrived--they are still waiting too. 9:50pm: I'm considering leaving at this point since there's significant second-hand smoke from multiple people smoking outside, though the crowd of people in front of the restaurant is going strong. 10:00pm: I go up to the stand and ask how much longer the wait will be, she says "oh you're a single diner right? I forgot, let me check." 10:05pm: she calls my name and ushers me inside. I'm seated at bar table seating at a window which works for me. Staff is quick to pass a menu, and take an order. 10:20pm the wait for the pizza after ordering was faster than expected. It only took about 7-8 minutes. Getting to the pizza--if you look up the definition of a Neapolitan style pizza, this is it! Served straight outta the oven as an entire pie, extremely thin, saucy in the middle, floppy base though evenly leopard-spotted on the bottom and the crust, pillowy and airy crust with a slightly crisp exterior. The tomato sauce was very fresh, and I loved the varying texture of the dough, great baked/slightly charred flavor. I got the Antonio which included regionally sourced cherry tomatoes, olives, capers, anchovies, basil. While I love both ingredients, the fish and capers together unfortunately were way too salty, I had to pick off some of these. Also I have to say as the pizza cooled, the room temp saucy dough wasn't quite as appealing as when it was hot. lol so if you consume it quickly it'll be fine! The serving size was also very generous, see pic with my hand next to the pie, I couldn't finish it in the end! Staff was quite friendly overall and I appreciated that they didn't pack the house or rush diners inside even with so many people waiting. That being said it was still pretty busy so you'll have to flag them down. After the meal, bring your bill up to the register to pay. *if you're familiar with NYC you'll know there are about 20 different Ray's Pizzas all claiming to be the original, which one is real? no one knows... **The other two locations on the same street are more casual, one is a takeout spot probably to handle the overflow from the main restaurant.

Thanks to yelp, for helping me find this gem in Naples…read more We were using our GPS to walk to this restaurant. When it lead us to a dark, corner street, I was skeptical to keep walking. I saw an arrow sign on the side of an alley wall, and a small banner which had the name of the restaurant. So we kept walking towards the alley and finally saw the place on the left side at the end of that alley. We were greeted and seated right away at the dining area downstairs. I loved the interiors and the overall look of the restaurant. All the staff members were friendly, polite, and efficient. We tried: OCTOPUS- The octopus was cooked perfectly in a very tasty sauce. O'Rrau- The meat was so tender, the ziti was cooked al dente, and the ragu was fragrant and flavorful. CANNELE A GGENUVESA- The meat was very tender, the candele was cooked al dente, and the broth was excellent. LEMON CAKE- It was fluffy, light, and deliciously tangy. If you have any doubt on whether to keep walking into that small alley or turn around, just go. You will not regret it. The restaurant was beautiful, charming, and clean. The service was great. Most importantly, the food was fantastic. Grazie mille!

Yelp Review #25 (2026)…read more Visited in June 2026. There are two lines when arriving. There is a to go line that's pretty short, an a dine in ticket line that you receive from the employee by the entrance. If you visit their museum to learn about the history of Antica, then your indoor seating is expedited. After the museum, we sat down and ordered our delicious pizza. They offer four different types of pizza.

No, it is absolutely not worth it…read more In the touristy area of any Italian city, you know the food is likely to be mediocre and that they're going to rip you off either a little or a lot. That's not just a rule in Naples, it's a hobby. I'm not sure why I ignored my usual skepticism, but I did and I'm sorry. This place rests on the legend that its pizza is somehow magical, as demonstrated by the purity of its insistence on making only four kinds of pie. That's easy to do when 90% of the people who spend money there live in Australia or something, and you're never going to see them again. In other words, who cares about repeat business? The pizza is: undercooked, soggy, and swimming in oil. You've had better. Not in the U.S., but definitely in Italy. The waiters and cashier are grumpy and rude. Hordes of tourists probably make them that way, but if that can't be a minimum of polite in dealing with the public, that's a great reason to find another job. The topper came after I paid my bill. (By the way, the pizza price of €6,50 sounds great, right? But add a bottle of water and the cover charge, and now it's 14€.) In any event, as I turn to leave, the furbo at the register essentially orders me to leave a tip. "It's not on the bill, so you have to leave the tip separately," he says. Now, I know there's no tipping in Italy, and I wouldn't have tipped for THAT service anywhere else on planet Earth. But I was so flabbergasted and embarrassed--he and another employee were literally staring at me to see what I'd do--that I meekly walk back to the table and plop down a 2€ coin. So then it was a 16€ lousy experience. I shouldn't have done it. And you shouldn't be bullied by snippy waiters who serve you crummy pizza. There are more pizzerias in Naples than there are traffic lights. Go find one where they want to earn your business.

As I peered through kitchen doors thrown open to the street I saw lobsters splayed out on the grill and chefs who looked plucked from central casting. Da Dora quickly became the place I had to dine at before leaving. Italians dine late and Da Dora's doors don't open until 7:30 p.m. so that's when I arrived to dine, first on Seafood Tartare and Procuitto-draped Melon, then on Grilled Lobster, a spectacular Seafood Pasta dish, and a handful of Grilled Prawns. A half-bottle of the excellent Taurasi wine completed the meal. The party beside me consisted of a Naples local and some out-of-town guests he'd brought together. Though fully sated from my meal I could barely withhold my desire to join him at his table. The seafood platters arriving there were jaw-dropping and added fuel to the idea that a return visit to Da Dora would be in order were I ever again in Naples. Reservations are recommended and both at the inside and outside tables you will find a mix of locals and some tourists who've wandered off the beaten path. Like every restaurant in this part of Italy, you won't be rushed along for a second seating; that table is yours and that bill will not be presented until you ask for it. And even then, you will be surprised at how reasonably priced the whole thing is - this, your most expensive Naples meal - when you later see that dinner for 3, wine and all, came in at a cool $155USD. Great place.
