A lot of the quotes I got previously lowballed me, had hidden fees, and were moving brokers. After talking about what I needed to move David actually recommended I take a third party pod site for the cheapest and safest option considering my short timeline. He didn't try to sell me something or persuade me to their company he was just honest and I really do appreciate it. When I move back to California they will definitely be on my short list to call. BEWARE: DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY…read more I do not recommend Happy Home Moving. The company itself is suspect. To be clear, my complaint concerns the company itself--not the individual movers. The workers worked hard throughout the move, and I appreciated their physical effort. I provided them with water, Gatorade, and protein bars to help sustain them while they worked. Five hours into my move, while the work was still underway and they estimated that approximately three more hours remained, the company attempted to collect payment for nine hours before those hours had been worked. They also requested that I send them a photograph of my identification, even though the seven-page contract I signed contains no requirement that I provide or permit them to retain a copy of my ID. They received a redacted version of my ID. They have no right to my driver's license number or my date of birth. This is how identity theft occurs. When I questioned the advance charge, they claimed the contract authorized it. The contract does state that deliveries are C.O.D., but it also states that transportation charges are "due and payable upon completion of such transportation." More importantly, the document provided to me contains no hourly rate, no nine-hour minimum, no estimated total, and no not-to-exceed price. Its declared inventory inexplicably lists "0 Items, 0 lb," despite this being an actual household move. Customers should not be pressured during an active move, when the company already has possession of their belongings, to authorize payment for hours that have not yet been worked. Pricing, minimum-hour requirements, payment timing, identification requirements, and the not-to-exceed amount should be disclosed clearly and in writing before the move begins--not raised after the movers have control of the customer's property. Read every document carefully, insist on a complete written estimate and itemized charges, document all start and completion times, and do not provide a photograph of your ID without a clear written explanation of why it is required and how it will be protected. However, after asking all my questions about my move and how long it would take, they became antagonistic. I am a single lady with not a lot of stuff to move. Everything was going to be packed already so the movers would just transport everything. I estimated no more than an hour to load, an hour to unload, and an hour to drive to my new place. The person said "let's do the math together" and said it would take 7-8 hours! I replied saying I find that hard to believe since my friends and I could move me in an hour at each place and we're not professionals. After I said that, I was told they wouldn't hook up my appliances, after they said they would. Or they would hook them up but would charge me extra. I don't trust these people. I just tried to get a quote and they were extremely rude as well as coming up with additional fees out of the blue. I do NOT recommend. EDIT: the guys response below is an example of how he will treat you. Very condescending. While he feels it is impossible to do that move, my friend and I were able to do the move in four hours and we are not professionals. There's some info for you. Apparently it takes professionals double the time with double the people.

Previously when I moved, I had movers who can shrink wrap everything by themselves- one person with a some kind of tool. These guys took the shrink wrap and literally walked around with the furniture, so it took some time. I had to move some of the lighter boxes with my roommate downstairs to speed up the process. Another perk of hiring movers is because they can take apart your bed and put it together. Except the one guy who took bed apart took soooo long to do so. Again, manually doing it with a screwdriver instead of using power tools. I know that sometimes it's better not to use power tools so you don't damage the furniture but uhhh that's if you're inexperienced. Okay, not my biggest complaint. Here's the part that is the most bothersome. My bed is new and quite expensive. When they were wrapping up my bed, they left one piece (the footboard) behind. My guess is because it was the smallest piece but that doesn't mean you don't cover it up. They threw it in on top of a box and I brought it to their attention. The guys told me that it would be fine & they would throw a blanket on top of it. Well, now I have all these scruffs all along the side of my footboard. Yes, it may seem minor but it could of been avoided if they just shrink wrapped my footboard when I asked them to. Then I notice a missing screw between my bed & the attached side/night stand. Never brought it to my attention. Perhaps they thought I wouldn't realize it??? It's a pretty crucial piece actually as it holds the bottom shelf from sloping downwards. Now I have to support it with some books for the time being. If you do decide to move with them, make sure they wrap everything & check minor details.
