Tacos Al Pastor y Carnitas
Tara C.

The al Pastor and carnitas tacos were delicious! We had to buy our bottled water at the Comic counter that's in the same shop. The food took longer than expected to come out but we weren't in a hurry. The staff was friendly and mostly speaks Spanish but I was able to get by with the little Spanish I know!

It is a small place and it doesn't look like much but their snacks (corn, juices, etc) are really good.

Motel West - Fish Taco

I've been wanting to try this place for a while now and it didn't disappoint. Their menu is simple…read morewith only a handful of options but I honestly prefer going to a place where they master their menu rather than try to do it all. The vibe inside is really cool and cozy. We ordered their Carnita Tacos and chilaquiles con crema, both were really good especially the tacos! They tasted so fresh with the pickled cucumber, YUM. My only complaint was that the chilaquiles were a little cold, they still tasted really good just not as warm as I would've liked.

The vibe that Motel West emulates is a modern country vibe. The menu and fonts they used are…read moreadorable but lack cultural significance that usually comes with these kinds of places ! Seating is pretty poorly done, the inside of the restaurant was BOILING hot...we literally requested to sit outside because of how humid it felt inside. It seems not well ventilated and so the cooking was adding to the heat indoors. Seats were all different and lacked consistency in furniture choices. After seating, our waitress got to us pretty late. Waters didn't have ice which I think is a poor choice in ANY establishment. Cooled water gets to be room temp fast !!! Our food took a LONG time to come. I ordered the Rajas burrito with pollo, which came to about $12 before tax...an expensive burrito ! The chicken used in the Rajas burrito is the same chicken from a different burrito - as the waitress told me. They only have ONE type of grilled chipotle chicken that they just add into everything, which I view as a lazy course of action. My burrito came and I found myself disappointed by the size. For a $12 burrito and a 20+ minute wait ? Not worth it ! However, the flavor was well done and the cheese + beans came to be very creamy. They provided a "hot sauce" which tasted more like a sweet mango-y salsa. My burrito was also poorly wrapped and fell apart as I ate it but watched my friends who had tightly wrapped burritos enjoy their meals. So the inconsistency is disappointing, especially for the time that it seemingly took for the food to be made. Overall, I think this is an overly americanized Mexican place. It's like a missionary came home from the south americas and wanted to bring "culture" to Utah. It's disappointing to see the small portions for bigger prices. Service was poor and our waitress rarely checked in other than to drop off a jug of water for us to self-poor our cups. (Which I didn't see done for the table next to us. So I believe this was a lazy choice on our waitresses part.) Though the business seemed busy, the food, service, and overall atmosphere were lacking. I believe the food came short of the authenticity and charm that usually comes with latin food restaurants.

RUN here. From the…read moresecond we walked in everything was on point. Greeted immediately, taken care of the entire time, water never empty. Service like this just makes the whole experience. The space is so cute. Clean, simple, pretty, and there is an upstairs private area that is such a vibe. Now the food. Wow. Queso fundido was insane. The jalapeños had the perfect kick and the homemade tortillas are hands down the best tortillas. I would go back just for those. Empanadas and tinga tostados were packed with flavor but listen to me... GET THE LAMB. It was unreal. And then dessert. The hibiscus poached pear with whipped cream. Light, unique, not too sweet, just perfect. Everything was beautifully plated. Every single thing felt intentional. 10 out of 10. Cannot wait to go back next time I am in Utah.

The service was really good. In comparison the food was bland and greasy. Our eating buddies were…read moreso excited to try here and were equally disappointed in their meal. This is not an inexpensive restaurant. My favourite go to meal is anything Mexican. The chicken taco had no flavour at all. No spices nothing. One taco was dripping grease the other had no grease. The pork taco had a flavor. Good combination of ingredients that made it interesting The beef taco was gamey and tough. We kept chewing the beef, but the toughness won and we gave up. Pretty disappointed in the meal especially in relation to the price point of the meal.
