Update: I just finished my 9th treatment and the results are fantastic! I have faithfully followed my treatment plan. I visit every two weeks and my sessions last around 45 minutes to clear the entire area. We might be able to go down to 30 minutes at my next session. Almost all of the new growth is fine, so she can use a lower voltage which is not as painful. No more numbing gel for me! I'm absolutely thrilled with my progress. Rosie, Estee, and Rose are a true gem of an establishment. I have gone here since approximately August of 2019 for electrolysis on my face. I have PCOS and have facial hair that is extremely embarrassing. The ladies at La Moda never made me feel self conscious about it for a second. I feel good about going here because I know these ladies will do a thorough job and I can confidently leave knowing they didn't miss any stray hairs. They all do a great job of chatting to help distract from the pain of the procedure. I feel like I've been chatting with one of my girlfriends. They are as gentle as possible with a procedure that is inherently a little painful. They are always prompt and I typically don't spend more than 30 seconds on their waiting room sofa. I visited here with a Living Social that was close to expiring. I was not familiar with this style of hair removal and had mistakenly thought it was a timed session of laser hair removal. I had liked that deal because I had some stragglers left from previous laser work and was not looking for 3 or 6 treatments for such areas but instead wanted a touch-up. Based on my limited understanding of the system I thought this might be a good way to touch-up a few areas. My misunderstanding was explained to me. I had to admit I was not even familiar with this particular option. The electrolysis involved penetrating each hair base. It apparently is not an option for feet (one of the stops I was hoping to have touched up) but was available for lips as well as legs and arms if one is so inclined. I also think this might be a good option for folks who do not fair so well with lasers (they work pretty well for me because my skin is light and my hair is dark). I think the idea is the treatments take longer but she seemed to believe they were more effective. If you are having a visible area worked on it is worth noting there is some swelling for a while. I had a puffy upper lip for the rest of the day. I am not sure how I feel about the treatment and if it works. My fingers are crossed it will do long term damage on the stubborn few near my mouth. read more

La Moda's electrolysis service is the best! I've been getting weekly 1-hour facial electrolysis sessions with Rosie (the owner) for about 3 months now. She is extremely thorough and gets *every* hair on my face. Every Hair. And some are dark, but very fine and thin and can only be seen at the right angle. Sort of like dark peach fuzz. This may not seem like a big deal, but previously I went for one session at Laser Plus in Vienna and was extremely disappointed with them. More on that at the bottom of this review. So La Moda is great. Rosie really cares about her customers. She is not over booked. She purposely leaves a buffer between appointments so she can provide the best service to her clients. There have been several times when after my appointment time was over she was able to accommodate me with extra time for bonus areas at my request. She's also very pleasant to chat with during electrolysis sessions. I have definitely seen results. Hairs grow in different cycles, so some haven't surfaced yet in the time I have been going to Rosie, but the occurrence of course dark hairs is is drastically reduced. I just went 5 whole days without shaving or plucking! And the hairs I do see in my magnifying mirror are so fine that I think I'm going to just be able to hold off until my next appointment in 2 days. By the way, make sure you don't pluck or wax in the 7 days before your first electrolysis appointment. It's only ok to shave. While going through a course of electrolysis, the only hairs you should pluck are the hairs you want to keep. And electrolysis will only be effective on hairs in the first 10-12 days of the growth cycle. Prices: La Moda's price are good. Rosie doesn't have a receptionist, so that cost is not passed along to me in her prices. Decor: As another reviewer mentioned, the furnishings are more antique in nature. It's not that new spa look that is so trendy. But am I seriously supposed to care? I care about the price, service, cleanliness, and that the electrolysis works. La Moda is immaculately clean, by the way. Also, keep in mind that many of La Moda's clients are older (getting treatment for facial hair that comes with age) and so they actually like this style of furnishing. In regards to LASER PLUS in Vienna, NOT LA MODA: at the end of my one session there I was like "but what about all the other 30 hairs still on my face/chin?" The person was like "it's impossible to get those. They are too fine. But these were not even super fine hairs. They just weren't ultra course thick hairs. They absolutely should be able to get them with Electrolysis. I was not pleased at all. And Rosie at La Moda treats those kinds of hairs with no problem or complaint. Bottom line, Rosie and La Moda are great. I'm so glad I found her. read more

This has been the truly the best quality electrolysis experience I've ever had. I've been going here on a treatment plan for about 2 years now, and I'm like a new woman! Rosie has steadily eradicated my problem hair to the point where I hardly go anymore, and when I do, we can only fill up about 30 minutes of time (and that's including newer areas that we didn't start with originally). I had a lot of hair to remove on my chin/neck/face--my first appointment where we cleared all the problem facial hair took 3 hours and 20 minutes. After that we were usually averaging about 2 hours every month to month and a half, and again, that was only for the face. I now have so little hair there that we can barely fill 15 minutes for the face, with 4-6 weeks between. If you want high-quality, effective electrolysis for an affordable price (so much cheaper than other places in the MD/VA/DC area) from a highly skilled technician who is flexible and generous with her time, this is the only place I could recommend. I feel like a different person--my self-confidence and comfort with my own body have skyrocketed. Those who deal with these issues know the other side of that that I'm talking about. Do yourself a favor and read all La Moda's reviews (not just the recommended). The two that I'm seeing here are not for electrolysis (which is what she specializes in) and are, I believe, not the overwhelming consensus. Do your research, folks, and don't miss out on a fantastic facility. read more

Bottom line: I've tried quite a few electrologists in the area (Skin Care Solutions and Georgetown Rejuvenation to name a few) and Rosie is BY FAR the best. First, I should say that Rosie does "thermolysis" on me. I'm not sure if she does blend or any other types. I have Mediterranean skin that scars very easily, so it is usually a worrisome experience when you have someone that could very easily create scars while sticking a little needle into your face. But, Rosie pays attention to your individual skin tone, and appropriately adjusts settings depending on skin sensitivity and hair thickness. I don't scar and very, very rarely get tiny scabs. Anyone who has gotten electrolysis knows it's painful, but Rosie is as gentle as she can be. I will never go anywhere else!!! read more

This was my first time getting Electrolysis! I was so nervous and did not know what to expect. Rosy, who is also the owner, was very welcoming and kind. During the consultation, she explained the process, what to expect, the equipments used and more. The process itself was a bit painful, but then again, that's not La Moda's fault that my pain tolerance is literally 0. I was also impressed by her fast work, my bikini line was done within an hour or so!! Her 20 years of experience is well reflected upon her remarkable work. This treatment is super good and efficient and Rosie is an excellent professional. She simply knows what she is doing and she is extra careful and super clean with all the supplies. Rosie uses good quality supplies and she is very attentive to every detail. I've been doing this treatment for over two years now (yes it is not something quick as Rosie explains about the hair growth but it is totally worth it!). I've been going to La Moda for a year and half now for electrolysis and laser treatments. Rosie is very professional and def knows what she is doing. On my first session she told me about the hair cycle and what I should expect which was great. I've been going for different treatment areas and I've very pleased with the results. Rosie is great at talking to you during the treatment so that you don't feel time go by or think about the discomfort that you may feel during electrolysis. I had elecrolysis done with Rosa. It worked very well for me. She is professional, polite, and quick (which goes long way when you have to remove a lot of hairs in little time). I have been coming to Rosie for electrolysis for several years now and have been extremely satisfied with the results. In fact, I have recommended La Moda Electrolysis to many of my friends and they have also been very impressed. I have been to many other electrolysis practitioners over the years and Rosie, without a doubt, is the very best. It is clear that Rosie makes customer service a priority. Her prices are quite reasonable, her office/procedure room are immaculate, her demeanor is calm/soothing, and her knowledge of electrolysis and hair removal in general are excellent. There are several electrolysis establishments within 1/2 mile from my home in Springfield; however, I much prefer to drive almost 30 minutes to get the quality results from Rosie. The only hair removal method used at La Moda is electrolysis. She hasn't used laser for many years so the reviews related to laser here on Yelp are not relevant. Also, in my humble opinion, I don't think reviews about the appearance of the building in which La Moda resides are relevant. What is relevant is that once you walk into La Moda's front door, you enter a warm and welcoming environment and are greeted with warmth, kindness, respect and high-quality service. The stuff I said about the building and Rosa still stand. She is very nice, but her lasers are just sub-par. I went for about 6 session (I believe, maybe more) for my underarms and there never was a change. She said it would take 10! I've had diode laser on my bikini and I saw results after the first treatment. I think if she changed to diode lasers her business would sky rocket, but perhaps her lasers are cheaper and that's why her price is so cheap compared to other places. Anyway, going there for laser is a waste of time, even if you get a living social deal. read more

I started electrolysis a few months ago and after trying nearly every electrologist in the DC area, I chose La Moda. The price is better than anyone in the DC city limits. Her table is also more comfortable for doing long sessions. La Moda uses a different method than anyone else I tried; she insists on doing longer sessions and completely clearing the hair from whatever area you want her to work on (the chin and lip in my case). I really like this method; most electrologists charge higher prices so you can only afford to go for half hour sessions or less, and when they are done there is still hair left. At La Moda, I can afford to go for longer sessions and my skin is clear longer before the hair comes back. I highly recommend La Moda for anyone who is serious about permanent hair removal. My only issue is that it is so far from any metro lines, but it is at least right on a bus line. I did my homework and read many customer reviews before I chose electrolysis over laser. Laser hair removal does not remove hair permanently and it doesn't work on everyone; the way I see it, if you are going to spend a bunch of money to get your hair removed, you need to do something permanent. It's a long process, and you should know what you are getting into before you get started. I am already seeing results after just a few treatments; I'll update this when I am all done. read more
