    Taco tamale plate

I eat here so often that I feel guilty about it. I'm here all the time because their food is so tasty and cheap. Tell me if you found tacos this inexpensive anywhere else please. Taco Tuesdays are only $2 each, regular $3. But, I always order their taco or tamale plate for $10 because the beans and rice it comes with hits those pure comfort strikes. Fast, counter service, clean, and unlimited house salsas. My happy place.

I really should think of La Mixteca regularly instead of just at the holidays. TAMALES! And they are done right!! I am looking forward to my next visit. Which will be very soon.

First off, let me get this out the way the food has so much flavor. The other customers didn't even look embarrassed when I licked my fingers. Of course they were clean. This restaurant is always clean with the fresh food, vibrant atmosphere friendly customer and I feel until now for never posting a review!!! 10/10 this is authentic food ! You're not going you're missing out and I'm not sharing !!!

I had a craving for tamales and came here to check out the hype. I bought one sweet pineapple, one spicy pork with green sauce and one chicken mole tamale. Unfortunately, the chicken mole tamale was very dry and lacked flavor. All of the tamales were pretty small in size as well. The horchata I ordered was not homemade and tasted artificial as if it was made from a packaged powder. I would be willing to come back to try the quesabirria tacos and other flavors of tamale but I was disappointed by this visit.

These are the best tamales I've had anywhere! Including home made ones I've had in California, they are that good. The mole tamale was the standout, with a flavorful sauce and tender chicken. A close second was the Piña colada tamale, which was such a delight because dessert tamales are hard to find. I was so happy with the sweetness of the masa, small chunks of pineapple, and nuts for texture. The masa in all of their tamales is exceptional--moist, not dense, not dry, fluffy and does not give you the feeling of being heavy after eating. I will definitely order the tamales again. My husband had the breakfast burrito, and said it was everything a chorizo breakfast burrito should be. Enough said. :) I removed a star for the service. Unfortunately the cashier did not smile or engage with us when we came in, barely spoke and then when our order came, told me they were out of strawberry tamales and gave us an extra piña colada one instead. Which I was fine with--but good customer service would have been to ask. I also saw a trash bag with contents sitting next to the trash--not sure if they were planning to take it out? I liked the ambience but they do need to work on the service aspect. Overall this has become a new take out spot for me!

It's okay. You can tell it's authentic from the get go. Ordered the chicken quesadilla and that's all you get, a quesadilla. No side of guac, pico..nothing. My son got the nachos that were made with house made traditional chips which are harder than usually restaurant style chips. The pricing is pretty good as the quesadilla cost under $10. Not overly impressed though, would be a hard sell to get me to come back. Another note: their soda machine needs cleaning. Weird after taste on all of the sodas coming out of that thing!

Tamale bowl was amazing. Tons of toppings and tender masa. I got the vegetarian rajas but there are vegan options too which is nice. Cute decor, counter service place so would be fun to come with friends. Food came out quickly. Not a lot of parking spaces. I'd return!

This place reminds me of Miami. The fresh squeeze orange juice and the style of cooking is very reminiscent of the Cuban spots in Miami. The tortillas are hand made and soft yet crispy from the griddle. The pastor was marinated well and they stuff their quesadillas and burritos. Fresh squeezed orange juice is a MUST. Will definitely be coming back for the tamales.

Update: it's been a while since we've been here. They have added more items to the menu. They took out the elote which I was sad about. I also feel like tamale size has decreased.

My coworkers and I went here for a quick lunch! We've actually ordered it to our office before and were pleasantly surprised by how delicious the tamales are! This time I ordered a Red & Green tamale plate. They're very flavorful! The portion sizes are also really good. I didn't feel super full after finishing my plate which I really like. Our food was served really quickly, since it's a quick service/casual place.

The husband and wife team from Mexico City and Ecuador run the show here. The thing I live the most is they have a spicy light green cream salsa that I usually only have found in Lima and in Peruvian Restaurants in South America or Florida. It is soooo good. Worth a trip to the bar for drinks and chips with it. That said I've had the Fajitas twice now and they have been large in scale and very much sizzling. Sizzling has surprisingly become a lost "art" at some places. Don puts it on the plate though. I also love that they use Lodge American made cast iron for the service. It beats Chinese made products where you don't know what chemicals may have been used. They have a lot of TVs they apparently pay for. That's no small expense for this size of a place. Interestingly they have Keno here. This is a staple of the restaurant/bar industry on the West Coast. It's practically the only way to make the numbers work. I rarely see this in Atlanta and I give the owners credit for providing this game and apparently some other lottery products. I'll be back more often. You have to respect an individual place where the owners are making the effort and working hard. I think they have live music on the weekend. Maybe I'll come then!

I ordered the lunch special with two tacos (pastor & chicken) and swapped the beans for rice. It was my first time trying pastor, and wow--I was genuinely impressed. The meat was tender, juicy, and packed with a smoky, slightly sweet, and savory flavor that really stood out. Definitely a 5/5 for the pastor taco. The chicken taco was decent--well-seasoned, mildly juicy, and satisfying, but not quite as bold or memorable. I'd give that one a 4/5. One thing I really appreciated: the meat didn't have that dry, overcooked texture you sometimes get at other taco spots. Everything tasted fresh, flavorful, and well-prepared. My partner ordered the carne asada plate (charbroiled fajita steak with pico de gallo, avocado, rice, and tortillas, with beans swapped for extra rice) $15.99. He said the steak was nicely charred, tender, and full of rich, savory flavor with just the right amount of seasoning. The plate was filling and well-balanced, and he gave it a solid 4/5. Overall, a great lunch spot with fresh ingredients, quick seating, and flavorful food. We'll definitely be back!
