The spot was empty! On a Saturday which was odd but we sat down and the menu offers your authentic meals and offerings. They have alcohol and beers here too. Def a small spot no type of vibes. Just felt the lady and young man just stare at us while we ate. My tripa taco was good just needed more seasoning and the Salas needed more love too. I really did not enjoy this. The place looked super authentic and I had really high hopes but it was not good. The fish was tough, as were the carnitas (tough and dry) and the chicken had no seasoning. As a matter of fact, nothing had any seasoning. Just bland and dry. Tacos ... let's get into it. I was craving some tacos and stumbled upon this local spot while searching online. Now I didn't want just any tacos, I wanted real authentic tacos. This gem popped up with a solid rating and convincing photos and 20 minutes later hubby and I pulled up to the front of the restaurant that's tucked into a little strip surrounded by other restaurants (Chinese, Indian, etc.) I felt like I hit the global cuisine holy grail, but I digress, let's talk about the food. I ordered three tacos: chicken, shrimp, and fish (supreme). The chicken was hands down my favorite, followed by the fish (tilapia). As expected, the tacos came with a lime on the side that added a nice touch of acid. I have to be honest, these might've been some of the best tacos I've had in a very, very long time! Parking is tight but we were able to secure a spot that someone was pulling out of. This place seems to be a local lunch favorite for the surrounding workers so many patrons were on foot which helped with the scarce parking. My sister's become a regular at this taqueria, and she finally got around to bringing me here during my visit. What a lovely little spot! Located in the little strip mall I dub as Little Pakistan in Duluth, TLO is a hole in the wall taqueria run by a sweet family who are familiar with their regulars which adds to the experience. It's a standard taqueria, meaning you go up to the counter to order, take a seat, and then the food is brought to you. I wanted to try a couple of things so we, without paying attention to our calorie count for the day ;), ordered: *sopes with asada- sopes are fried corn dough cakes with toppings (think Chalupa breading). The sope held the toppings well but could have used a bit more flavor *mulita con chicken tinga- this was amazing! A mulita is similar to a quesadilla but smaller and made from almost a lightly fried corn tortilla with all toppings stuffed inside such as the tinga, avocado, crema, etc. The tinga was so full of flavor *nachos con asada- PLENTIFUL toppings and meat with crisp chips which is always the dream. They put melted shredded cheese on these so they were a bit dry for me; we ended up getting queso dip to pour on top which hit the right note. They also had a selection of glass bottle sodas and Jarritos. Some days, they also have homemade dessert but they didn't when we went in All in all, standard good taqueria food. If you want a $7 burrito to last you two meals, don't care about chips/salsa (because the salsa is very different from most Mexican restaurants), and don't care about squirting sauce all over your clothes, check this place out. This place is a hidden gem hole in the wall restaurant! We weren't expecting too much when we went to try it out for dinner but it definitely exceeded expectations. We tried a variety of things on the menu to get a taste of everything and each time I bit into the next thing, my taste buds were blown away. The food is family cheap as the tacos can cost as low as $1.99 depending on what kind of meat you get and I even saw some things on the menu that did not seem common at other Mexican restaurants. I was given a snack size basket of salsa and chips while I waited for my food. Fantastic place. It's definitely a place to try some authentic Hispanic flavors. It's delicious. The venue is definitely not catered to be modern and fitting the more hip and young crowd. But if you get past the interior and dive into the food. Your taste buds are in for a treat. The fish taco was my favorite. It's 3$ per one now, but goodness the flavor of the fish truly shines. All the tacos were good, some can be a bit dry, but I think that's common in general for Mexican tacos. You can opt for the more expensive version which gives cheese and sour cream, I believe which will help. But the flavor of the meat are solid and beautiful. The wonderful woman who took our order at the front of the venue was so helpful and had a great vibe while assisting a Spanish amateur like myself to navigate the menu a bit. The burrito was a really nice size and again, tasted delicious and the salsas accentuated the taste nicely. The steak on its own was slightly salty. But not enough to complain. The torta (unfortunately no photo). But it was again, a great size, came with some nice avocados which gives it a nice texture and richness to the sandwich. Very hard to find a good Taqueria around me that serves a good amount of food for a decent price. You either spend a good bit to eat your fill or order at a cheap place for food that is ok. Here I have none of these problems, great food with a good dollar price. For $15 ($30 but shared between 2 people), I was able to get the Torta with fries, the Taco lunch special (highly recommend), and their asada burrito. Never have I eaten and needed to grab a to go box and bag from a Taqueria and this place made me smile for making me do it here. Will definitely come back with friends and family. My favorite place to go for fast amazing Mexican. This place is inside a shopping strip and kind of hidden. When you go inside u have a sit and the nice lady comes and takes your order. She does being out chips and salsa which is a nice free touch. The salsa is made there and amazing. We have gone back a few times now. Their tacos are very good. The tortas are amazing. The sopa de res (beef soup) is so bomb The soup normally comes with veggies but I love the potatoes.. every place makes their soup different. And here the soup doesn't come with potatoes but she added some for me which was very sweet of the staff. I've also had a huarache with chicken and it was perfect too. Nice crunch to it. Anywho. Honestly, my favorite local taco spot. Feels good to not have to go to the city for good, quality tacos. I've never had a bad experience here. They sell the tacos individually with a variety of meats. You also have the option of getting regular or deluxe style tacos. Regular tacos come with cilantro and onions. Deluxe tacos come with lettuce, tomato, and sour cream. My favorite meat is the al pastor with the little chunks of pineapple in it. I LOVE sweet and savory. Found this place randomly, and it totally lived up to its great reviews. They have an extensive menu of tacos, huareches, tlayudas, enchiladas, burritos, and other Mexican dishes, both more well-known and more regional. I am not very familiar with Mexican cuisine, but the owner/staff was very happy to advise and help me with the whole ordering process. I was feeding my in-laws, so I got a bunch of different tacos to try--they come in two styles, cilantro and onion only or "deluxe," which means lettuce, sour cream, all that jazz. My sister-in-law and I couldn't decide, but ultimately opted for the "souped-up" version. Later learned that the naked tacos are more traditional, as are corn tortillas. Next time! Anyway, our assorted meat-filled tacos were delicious! They were very generous with the proteins, and each taco was less than $3, so quite a steal. The steak, chorizo, chicken, and others we sampled were flavorful and satisfying. Lots of others coming in and out while we waited for our food, both folks dining in and carrying out. We looked to be the only non-Hispanics in the restaurant. The staff speaks English very well, though, and can help you if you have questions or trouble deciding. So happy we gave this business a try.
