El Torero became a favorite of ours when we lived in the Atlanta area for ten years. Since leaving Atlanta , we always made an effort to stop here if we were anywhere near Atlanta. Today was no exception. We were overnighting in ATL so we could catch an early flight the next day. We rented a car (Uber made no sense in this case) and made the 37 or so mile trek to El Torero. Like every other visit, we were not disappointed. Chips were hot and fresh and the salsa had that wonderful "bite". We also ordered cheese dip. Here they add jalapeños which really add to the flavor. My wife ordered flautas (which came with a nice salad) and I had chimichangas. (One chicken and one beef). Instead of being topped with cheese, I opted for a spicy " red" sauce which was excellent. We ate slowly enjoying every bite. El Torero first opened in 1981 and continues to be as excellent as the day we first came here many years ago. Two of the original staff from our Atlanta days are still working here albeit many years older. Service is extraordinarily. It doesn't matter who your server is. If someone sees your drink empty, a refill is quickly delivered. Driving back to the airport I asked my wife if the $51 car rental and $10 replacement gas was worth it. She replied, "what do you think"? We expect to be passing through Atlanta in early February. Can't wait for our next El Torero stop. read more

Do not skip this spot! I got a full order of the nachos and there were so much food. I couldn't even finish it. All the ambience is that of a typical Mexican restaurant, but you cannot beat the quality of food and the price that you were paying service was great. The food was very bad, and the service also left a lot to be desired. This is supposed to be a Hispanic restaurant, but the chilaquiles didn't taste like chilaquiles at all--they only tasted like guajillo chili, with no balance of flavors or authenticity. The overall presentation was not appetizing. On top of that, the service made the experience even worse. A table of people from another nationality arrived after us, and they were still served before us, which felt very unfair and unprofessional. We waited a long time without any attention, and it seemed like no one cared about our table. Overall, it was a very disappointing experience from start to finish. Tried and tried to find something or some dish that is good. Margaritas are exceptional but what to eat? Fajitas are NOT the normal..not in a hot skillet and not grilled meat. Served on a bed of lettuce... say what? Aren't most fajitas on a hot skillet with peppers, onions, etc? A local Mexican food. It was a good experience. The restaurant was spacious with plenty of seating. The waiter came to my table immediately to get a drink order and drop off chops. The sales was tasty but a little spicey. I had the #17 which was the ground beef enchilada, ground beef burrito with rice and beans for $15. Overall the food was good. I really needed comfort food recently after coming back to Georgia. It had been a long journey traveling about 19 hours in recent days, helping my mom and cat uproot and move their lives across country (and across the biggest ocean). I've been exhausted caregiving, preparing, and planning things non-stop for almost a month. I generally run to Mexican or Thai food for comfort and already had business in Duluth, so this place popped up on my radar. After finding out the Lawrenceville/Duluth Don Pedro location recently closed (one that I never got to try), I decided just to phone in an order here for lunch. A guy answered the phone and took my order without issue. I decided to try the "Speedy Gonzales" plate and the Three Taquitos. The plate came with choice of rice or beans, and it came with an enchilada and taco with your choice of meats. Over the phone it was not specified as "ground beef" or "shredded beef" for the item choices. I prefer shredded beef in most Mexican dishes, mostly because I can make ground beef any time and usually do. I had the option of "chicken or beef," so I went with beef for the plate and the taquitos. It turns out the taquitos had shredded beef, but the enchilada and taco were ground beef. Everything was delicious and fresh tasting though, so I have no complaints! On the side came two big bags of chips and two salsas, along with pico de gallo, guacamole, and sour cream in a separate container. The pico-guac-cream mix was a little watery, as to be expected, but at least it was complimentary and the pico had great flavor from the cilantro and peppers (not overpowering at all). Overall, for the price, convenient location in Duluth, tasty and fresh food, and generous portions, I would definitely order takeout from this place again. 10 years after my initial review and I still LOVE my El Torero. The food is consistently delicious. I've now been coming here for over 30 years and I still consider it my favorite Mexican restaurant of all time. The cheese dip, chips and food are always delicious. The only thing that has changed is that It's a little harder to find a parking spot now though since there are so many gamer places in the same strip mall. I've been coming here with my wife and family for at least 10 years now, and it is quite possibly the best, most authentic Mexican food I have ever had. The salsa is hot. The cheese is plentiful and melty. The portions are always over the top. And you will never leave here hungry. I absolutely love El Torero! I consider them like family. I have been eating at 3 or 4 of their locations over the past 30 years. I raised my children on their food too. Ramon and his family own the location in Duluth and I eat there once a week, on average. My favorite is the Single Special ABC burrito, mixed beef and beans with extra queso!!!! This is a no-frills Mexican restaurant. They don't try to make anything over the top. So if you want good Mexican food that's simple and straightforward, this is the place. The salsa has a little kick and the chips are always warm. The staff are wonderful and they work as a team to take care of the tables. I went with the trusty speedy Gonzales and it was delicious. My husband always gets beef nachos and a side of rice. The meat isn't really seasoned which is fine for this type of place, again, it's very simple and straightforward. Chips and salsa were good and not oily We got #1 (1 hard chicken taco, 2 enchiladas one cheese one chicken with rice) and #48 (chicken burrito with 2 soft chicken flour tortilla tacos and rice). Both were cheap around 13$ Chicken is fresh and moist and it's not just the basic boiled shredded looking chicken, there's like tint indicating seasoning. I loved the hard chicken tacos extremely delicious with the shredded cheese dip cheese and lettuce. Enchiladas were equally delicious the sauce was yummy. Rice was not dry and it was also delicious. My date had the burrito and soft tacos they looked really good and the portions were hella big for 13 bucks. The only con was the margarita my date ordered. It's strong but was not tasty or visually "wow" I wish someone would upgrade the decor. There's a ton of fish on the wall lol like old seafood type restaurant interior. I think it would bring such a beautiful element to the restaurant to have sombreros and other prideful decor to represent the culture! If I could give zero stars, I would. My family and I use to frequent this restaurant years ago and sadly, it has went to straight shyt. I'm not sure what others are experiencing on their pallet when eating the food here (those that gave rave reviews) but I was underwhelmed. I came in today during lunch... it wasn't too busy. We were advised that we could seat ourselves. Chips and salsa were dropped off and then 5 minutes later, we were asked what we wanted to drink. We weren't even sure if the gentleman was our server because he didn't introduce himself. He was dipping and diving throughout the restaurant, so im assuming he was the only waiter (mind you, we were advised to sit anywhere by someone else). We got the waters and those were disgusting. I should've known it was headed for disaster. Looking around, tables were still dirty and plates were half eaten. We ordered the lunch special 9, which is one enchilada, rice and beans and the fajita mix (chicken, beef and shrimp with peppers and onions... a basic fajita platter). Everything was unseasoned aka BLAND AS F*CK! The sauce on the enchilada was disgusting... the chicken inside the enchilada was chewy. The rice was decent, but you could tell it was microwaved... same with the refried beans. The fajita mix was just sad. The tortillas that came with the dish were tough! No seasoning on anything! This establishment is truly unorganized. Next I saw, our "waiter" was the cashier in the front! We weren't asked if we needed anything else, how the food was... he wasn't even pleasant. End result - our table looked just like those that "ate" before us... picked over and half eaten. My stomach started hurting after leaving for a brief moment. I've been going to this El Torero since forever. I love the servers and all that work here. I can't find enough words to describe how happy I am when I eat here. I love the chips and salsa and of course their sweet tea. I just learned that the waitress took ownership of this particular restaurant. Plus her husband and 2 sons work at this location as well. I'm very proud of them. If I ever go on a date this is where I want to come to eat. It's nice and simple and not overpriced like Pappasito's Cantina. read more

Friendly staff promptly greeted and seated me. Chips and salsa followed me to my table. My chips were delivered hot, and tasted very good. I requested a half order of super nachos which included beef (or chicken if you desire), beans, lettuce, sour cream, and guacamole. I had also requested jalapeño peppers but they forgot them. The nachos were good but unremarkable, having just a bit too much lettuce and lacking enough beef to give it a good 4 star review. The facilities were well worn but reasonably clean. The restaurant also had a pleasant scent inside. My server, as well as other staff, made sure I didn't want for anything by keeping my water glass filled, and checking on my chips and salsa needs! For some reason, Kabaji Grill was closed. I was disappointed cause was meeting up a friend for lunch. We both didn't want any Asian food and we saw El Torero Mexican Restaurant and decided to eat there. She reminded me that there was a El Torero in Norcross that we used to eat at where we worked at that time, that was decades ago. She remembered liking the food. It is a lot bigger than I thought. It looked packed but there were plenty of place for sitting, esp the booth area. Tortilla and salsa came right away. Friend asked for queso which came out quickly too. We both ordered the Lunch Special of Fajita. She mixed her meats of chicken, shrimp, and beef and got rice. I asked for chicken and beans. After 10 minutes or so, our food came out. We were both stuff. The food is fine. I really liked the tortilla because it was not light and flimsy. Service was great. El Torero is located in a plaza off Sattelite Boulevard, next to Pho House and Haru Ichiban. When you first walk in, you may think that the place is small but don't be fooled because there is more seating in the back. You can generally sit yourself wherever you'd like but if you want to make sure that your presence is known, you can wait for someone to guide you to a table. The menu is pretty simple and it's big. They have a variety of selections and if you're not familiar with what's on the menu, you can always ask the servers, who are very kind and very helpful. One of my friends ordered a milkshake and she was disappointed with what she was given. I don't remember what she said it tasted like but the consistency wasn't like a typical American milkshake because it was watery. Not sure if Mexican milkshakes are different from American milkshakes but maybe this will help you out if you're looking to try their milkshakes. My other friend informed the server of the milkshake disappointment and he so kind that he took it back and brought out a new one, which ended up being very similar to the first one that was ordered, but the thought was greatly appreciated. I don't remember what I ordered, exactly, but I remember that the stuffed poblano was the best part of the dish I liked. Our entrees were pretty big and the food was very hearty but I didn't finish my dish and ended up having to pack it to go. I wouldn't mind coming back to give El Torrero another try since their menu is so big and the combinations could possibly be endless but so far, my impression of El Torrero is meh. read more

After coming out from the movie theater at Studio Movie Grill, I wanted to have lunch nearby and El Torero is just along the street on Satellite Blvd at Duluth. It is right next to Laser Quest and Subway. As I walked into the restaurant, the waiter at the front said I can sit anywhere I liked. There were menus placed at each booth and table at the restaurant. With an extensive menu, I did not have time to browse through it all and the waiter was standing ready to get the order. So I simply had the following: * Special Lunch #1. It had Chille Relleno, beef taco, beans and guacamole salad. The Chille Relleno is a whole poblano pepper stuffed with your choice of meat. I wanted beef as my choice of protein. It was topped with some melted cheese and special sauce. A taco comes with it. Pretty much a corn tortilla folded and deep fried. The crisp shell was filled with beef, lettuce and a whole lot of cheese. It was good but I had to get the overloaded cheese off my taco. Really a good value with a generous portion. My tummy was happy. * Combo #25 is the other meal I tried. It came with Chalupa, enchilada, rice and beans. The Chalupa is a flat corn tortilla with beans sprinkled with cheese, topped with lettuce and guacamole. The enchilada is a rolled up corn tortilla, stuffed with beef and topped with cheese and sauce. The refried beans and rice are good too. Nobody should be hungry after this meal. The drinks came out just as soon as the salsa and chips came. The waiter was friendly and warned that the plates were hot. I did not expect the plates to come out in a blink of an eye but it did. Not complaining here because it was the right dishes that came out from the kitchen. The waiter made sure the drinks were topped and salsa and chips were replenished in a timely fashion. For dessert, I enjoyed a delicious flan and this caramel custard was very creamy. It hit the right spot and I was on a sugar high that afternoon. The service was wonderful and I sure was made to feel at home. Yes, I do tend to overeat when I'm at home. There were many families there with children and the restaurant is quite spacious inside. Plenty of parking outside the restaurant if you decide to hold a party here. If you want fast and inexpensive Mexican food, this is one place to visit. This place gives me a great feeling. I visited this place twice in one day.. I love the service and the decor. If you are coming for the first time like I did. You would get comfused. I received three plates and burned my hands on one of them. I first received my Avocado salad it had a tomato on it. The tomato was really juicy. The second plate came out and it was the taco. The taco was good, but it was to much cheese. The lettuce was not to much. They gave the right amount of taste with the lettuce. Finally, the plate that burned my hand. The beans and burrito. The burrito was wrapped in a green pepper, and the pepper gave it a kick of spice. It wasn't too spice, so you could taste the meat and green pepper. The pepper gave a bitter and salty taste to the burrito. The burrito was so mouth watering. I was thinking about it walking out of the restaurant. The beans were smooth. I loved the taste of it, and so did everyone at the table. They took their utensils and kept going at it, but I went at the beans and salad as they drooled. The beans with the lettuce was a good combination. I tired it with the burrito to, but it just didn't give it the right taste. My friends had the nacho salad with chicken/beef. I loved that at the end you could eat the bowl. I bowl with salsa was very good. I loved how the cheese was dripping from the side of the bowl. It gave it great kick with the jalapeños. I jalapeños were not that spicy for anyone. The chicken nachos salad had the jalapeños, but the other one with beef did not have jalapeños. It was a big disappointment that the beef one did not have jalapeños. After that, we finished our meals and did not want anything to eat until night when we came back for seconds. We sat at the same booth and enjoyed the same food. I would recommend this place to anyone who loves Mexican food. The location is right next to a Lazer tag place so after you finish your food you can go have fun. I can tell you at lunch hour. It gets very busy, but you will not wait for your food. It was good, but she found a piece of plastic in the lettuce. We told the server and all she said was, "sorry". No manager came to apologize. They didn't discount the item, and didn't even offer to make a new plate. I ordered steak fajita nachos. The amount of food given for the price they charge is not worth it. The steak was not seasoned good. It tasted sweet with kind of like an Asian flavor. No where close to being a compatible flavor with Mexican food. Hardly any chips were on my plate. First impression at lunch time is they are extremely busy! I was seated immediately and it literally took five minutes for my food to come out! No kidding!! No... It may have taken less than that! The food was amazingly hot and delicious! I had only eaten about 4-5 chips with salsa when my chimichanga with flank steak and rice and beans had arrived. In my opinion, the portion size was perfect! I don't like going to restaurants that give you more good than you will ever care to eat... So I appreciated being handed a plate I could manage. If you're a working professional in the area on a lunch break, you will love this place because you can easily be in and out in less than 25 minutes. The most time consuming aspect of the experience is waiting in line to pay.... During the lunch rush, the line got pretty long. The steak was very well seasoned and tender. I paid an extra $1 and asked for queso on top (what's a chimichanga without it?)... The rice was a little firm so I could tell it was sitting of course, but that's to be expected.
