The base is a creamy vanilla mixed with a boysenberry jam and a sort of graham cracker pie crust crumble. Such great textures with the light crunch of the graham cracker and the smoothness of the ice cream. I highly enjoyed this mini masterpiece! I also sampled their other September flavors: pralines and cream, German chocolate brownie, and blueberry biscoff. All were very good and I really enjoyed the German chocolate brownie. After reviewing their in-house made ice cream flavors, my friend opted for Blueberry Pomegranate Gelato and Three Rivers Wild Blackberry in a waffle bowl and I chose the Wild Blackberry and Raspberry Cheesecake for my waffle bowl. We made our way through the gift shop, the furthest building to the left, and out to sit on the covered deck, where 2 red Adirondack chairs waited for us. For me, enjoying an ice cream treat whilst sitting on the back deck overlooking the river is a part of visiting Sequoia. Reimer's opened this flagship location in 1956 and it's a special place where hand made confections, created with the finest ingredients and proudly displayed, are offered alongside delicious ice cream, sherbet and gelato, with seasonal flavors highlighting local fruits, like our wild blackberry this day. The gift shop carries some local items featuring Sierra motifs, in case you need one last souvenir from your trip. Sparkling ornaments and decorations are available all year and add to the happy and festive nature of this classic gem of a roadside stop. The ice cream hit the spot, but the waffle bowl is a true standout. I don't know the secret recipe, but notes of vanilla hit my nose and hints of cinnamon danced on my tongue. SO good! The hours are on the front, and they are open until 10pm nightly with 11pm on weekends. There are lines on the weekends, they move pretty quickly. The decor and seating is so cold and terrible. The ice cream itself makes up for it! My kids like that the menu has photos along with a description of the ice cream, they were able to make their own selections without my help. Its also very intuitive and shares what the scoops look like. We got the monster shake and it's HUGE! The kids got the medium and it lasted them two days (it's a good size) with two flavors. That might not sound like the ideal setup, but the two young ladies working there certainly didn't let it get in the way of providing a great experience. Both were exceptionally friendly and helpful and seemed genuinely happy to take care of us. I somewhat hesitantly asked whether they could make a pineapple milkshake. This was a deal breaker at Cold Stone when they looked at me like I was crazy for asking--I've never been back. Here, though, there was a brief "Hmm..." moment before one of the young ladies said, "We don't have a pineapple shake on the menu, but we certainly could add fresh pineapple to our vanilla ice cream." Sold! The result was an excellent fresh-pineapple milkshake--and exactly the kind of little bit of creativity and customer service that makes a stop memorable. It tasted so good on a hot day! The temporary location is actually quite pleasant, sitting alongside a beautiful park near Hanford's civic auditorium, with shaded outdoor seating where you can enjoy your ice cream. There's some interesting history right there as well: The distinctive building behind the stand is the old Kings County jail, known locally as "The Bastille." And then there's the ice cream itself. The temporary operation may mean simple surroundings and very plain serving cups, but don't let appearances fool you. The cups are plain, but the taste is not. My only regret is that I didn't try the fresh peach. Based on that pineapple milkshake, I have a feeling I missed something pretty special.
