Cute place; delicious food. I ordered the shrimp enchiladas with cheese and my companion ordered the shrimp quesadilla. Both entrees with rice and beans were tasty and satisfying. The decor smacked of authentic Mexico. Cute tables and chairs, colorfully painted with Mexican scenery. We'll be back.

The joys of traveling include finding hidden gems. It's located in a strip mall so it's easy to miss. Looking from the outside you would think that it's a small grocery store which it is but hidden in the back is a small quaint restaurant that serves up some pretty good authentic Mexican food. Although they have a menu, most items on the menu are so popular that they usually are sold out. We had homemade guacamole, agua fresca de Jamaica, beef fajita tacos and enchiladas de carnitas. Everything was delicious! The onions that came with our salsa were like eating fire but I kept eating! Lol! Some other reviewers mentioned that the meat was on the dry side. I agree with this statement but the flavor was so good! The guacamole was some of the best I've ever had. The chips do not appear to be homemade but were ok. The salsa was good. I didn't get a chance to look around the store but I noticed that they have fresh meats and a butcher on site. This is definitely on my list to revisit when I'm back in town.

The best Mexican tacos in BR! It's located in a strip mall off of Siegen lane. The front half is a grocery store and the back is the restaurant. They have waiter service but you pay at the end of your meal at the front grocery store part. I've been once before and the service is speedy. I'm very impressed and will have to be back soon!

This place is so authentic! The front of the store is a grocery store and the back is the restaurant. We got the enchiladas (one with red sauce and one with queso), the combo plate, and a side of queso. The queso didn't come out super hot, but other than that the food was delicious! Definitely would recommend if you're close by.

Man. This place is so yummy. Super affordable and just tastes great. You dine in the area at the back of the store, and service is prompt and friendly. We ordered the tacos panchos y pastor, tacos especiales y chorizo, and a carnitas plate. Everything what simply lovely and cooked perfectly, seasoned well, too. They provide chips and salsa. We eventually ordered horchata since it's a sweet choice for a dessert, and it tastes great, as well. I recommend!

This little place is quite deceiving. The entrance is actually a store, and the restaurant is in the rear. It's an unassuming space with tables & a small bar. There was a very sweet lady named Laticia who helped me through the menu, from my seat at the bar. After starting to sip on my margarita, I decided on Tacos (In the absence of chimichangas). Chicken, brisket, and Carnitas. They were all tasty. But the Carnitas (Pork) and the Brisket were seriously good! I ordered more to go. And they were packed in a simple plastic plate, and covered with foil sheets. It made me smile to see such simplicity in a world of complicated. This little place was big on customer service, peaceful surroundings, and flavor. Proof that sometimes the best things, are the simple things.

This place is good stuff. Situated in the back of a market, there is a few tables and a bar. The menu of short and the drink list even shorter consisting of only beer and regular margaritas. This didn't take away at all. The food was great and authentic. The staff was quick and friendly. They are happy to let you alter items or substitute things for little or no charge. They have been featured in the advocate more than once. Don't forget to try some of their interesting sodas if you're into that sort of thing.

Very tasty. Simple with no frills. We had the Mixta Fajitas, and they were well seasoned and had plenty of limes in the side!

Authentic Mexican food and an incredibly patient staff. You really can't beat Taco Tuesday during happy hour.

We have been regular customers here weekly for over two years…read more Jim Uridales goes out of his way to cook the most delicious cuisine in our area. There are many choices on the menu. Tonight I got Spanish coffee and a chili relleno. The Spanish coffee is an alcohol drink that can be used as a dessert. Yummy! The chili rellenllo was filled with dellicious ground seasoned beef. It has a coating and is deep fried. The pulled pork quesadillas are so yummy- this is what my hubby got tonight. I like the way the seating is here. There are booths and tables and all are comfortable. Though you may be sitting near another table, the acoustics are such that others talking are not bothersome. This is a pet peeve for me- many times I would rather eat at home - but here, the restaurant here feels like our family now. They are known for their delicious margaritas; but the bar can mix most any drink . I love Mestizos, the yummy food and varied menu mmm is the word! My husband and I are self proclaimed foodies. We love most everything on their menu. The chefs Dad owned a Mexican restaurant in Baton Rouge for years- " Carlos" Uridales inspired his son, Jim, to open his own restaurant. Mestizos has been in business for over 25 years. Jim Uridales and his crew are also benevolent members of Baton Rouge and they are a service oriented group of professionals. The menu prices are slightly higher on some items, however, scallops with shrimp here are very delicious and perfectly browned in a buttery flavored manner and this menu item sells for 30 dollars and it's the most costly entree on the menu. Their tapas menu is more budget friendly and delicious. I urge you to try this delicious menu for yourself. We love their catering department too!

Mark Twain, or someone was famous for saying that the coldest winter he ever spent was a summer in San Francisco. And today I say with absolute sincerity (but slightly tongue in cheek), that the best meal I ever had in Mexico City was in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. If Michelin ever gives stars in Baton Rouge, Mestizo should on the list. Try the scallops in mole verde and the salmon in mole pistachio.

We came on a Sunday, and I got a delicious brunch!…read more The restaurant wasn't busy for an early lunch, so we got seated right away. Immediately upon walking in, I loved all of the colors and the vibes of this Mexican restaurant. When you sit down, they bring chips and salsa to your table. I wasn't a huge fan of the salsa or the chips. The chips had some seasoning on them and to me, it didn't mix well with the salsa. The salsa was really thin, and I prefer a chunky salsa with a salted thick chip lol. I was feeling adventurous and got the French toast on the brunch menu. It was delicious! The berry compote and the two different syrups paired really well with it. The bacon that it came with was perfection. I ate every last bite. I did have a bite of my friends tacos, and they were good but on smaller side in my opinion. Our waitress was great and there were plenty of tvs to watch while we waited. But, we never waited long for anything!

This is definitely Tex-Mex rather than traditional Mexican, but it hits the spot if that's what you're craving. The real standout is the decor and ambiance, especially after renovating and expanding. It's a fantastic space to hang out and chitchat with friends over dinner. The service has always been great and efficient for me. I can't remember the server I often got - maybe Joshua? Their yearly Cinco de Mayo party is also always fun and a vibe! Overall, still a solid spot in Baton Rouge for Tex-Mex and close to LSU campus.
