I went out for dinner expecting the usual fare of bread and jamón and other such things but didn't have a place in mind. I chose Montero because it looked nice and cozy and was pretty close to the beaten track of tourist restaurants between the Plaza Mayor and the Cathedrals. This place however blew my mind. Everything we had was excellent. The rice tapa dish which sounded boring turned out to be the most flavorful stew of rice and cheese I've ever tasted. The picarones were the best I've had in Spain, and the salmorejo soup was as tasty as any I have had. I considered going back to Montero on my 2nd day in Salamanca, but decided to broaden my horizons by trying another place nearby, which turned out to be lackluster. If I ever travel to Salamanca again, I will definitely have to visit Montero.

This particular bodega has a small (four room) hotel in it and we stayed there for the night while exploring the city. On the night in question, we were the only people staying at the hotel so they gave us a key to our room as well as to the door (it is not staffed at night) and we basically had free reign. Our room was very comfortable. Our full size bed was actually two twin beds pushed together, but that wasn't a big deal. The bathroom was stocked with soft, full size towels and had a rather technologically advanced shower. We also had access to the upstairs lounge with lots of comfortable couches, a large TV, and a full kitchen. The fridge was stocked with water and food and there was a separate wine fridge with all the Felix Sanz wine we could drink (which was one and a half bottles). The next morning, a lady came by to cook us a large, delicious breakfast before we departed for San Sebastian. Unfortunately, we didn't have time to tour the winery. I think it would have been pretty awesome. If you're interested in verdejo wine and looking to stay in the city of Rueda, this is probably your best bet (super luxurious for 70 euros a night!)

My Spanish is very limited, but the girl at the counter was very patient and helpful while I fumbled and ordered my tapas. They have an extensive list of mostly meat tapas, with a throw in of a few vegetarian ones as well. I loved their recommendation of white wine as well. This place made me feel welcomed which only enhanced my experience. I definitely recommend it!
