I'm not the world's biggest fan of Spanish food. I was in Spain for business for about 9 days and…read moredid some traveling while I was there, so I ended up in Salamanca one night. I went out for dinner expecting the usual fare of bread and jamón and other such things but didn't have a place in mind. I chose Montero because it looked nice and cozy and was pretty close to the beaten track of tourist restaurants between the Plaza Mayor and the Cathedrals. This place however blew my mind. Everything we had was excellent. The rice tapa dish which sounded boring turned out to be the most flavorful stew of rice and cheese I've ever tasted. The picarones were the best I've had in Spain, and the salmorejo soup was as tasty as any I have had. I considered going back to Montero on my 2nd day in Salamanca, but decided to broaden my horizons by trying another place nearby, which turned out to be lackluster. If I ever travel to Salamanca again, I will definitely have to visit Montero.

Let me write some Chinese commendations: 这餐厅还是相当不错。 因为在西班牙我看用yelp点评的人不多。 找高评价餐厅不易 因为评论的数量太少。 这个餐厅Vinodiario是我在google map上看到的， 219人评价，四星半。 菜品很有特色，我点了个主菜是蘑菇（oyster mushroom），还有鳕鱼红米饭（Cod and red rice），很可口！

While a little thick, the batter was just perfect (and I usually don't like battered food). I also had the octopus. It was outstanding. It's easy to overcook octopus, but they didn't here. And I enjoyed a great white wine. A thoughtful place with declicious food. And the server was friendly and quick.

It was a really good meal. I had a friend who ordered it too, later, and agreed it was quite good. I had a bite of both the steak and lamb chops. Both were incredibly good. The seasoning on both and tenderness made it. Way better than my meal :) I really wouldn't mind going back for either. The eggplant vegetable plate was so good. I'm not a big eggplant fan but wow! Also came with a tomato, peppers, and onion. The seasoning was mouth-watering. Definitely give them a try.
