When I lived in Austin I would frequent La Mancha, on a return visit this weekend I was looking forward to another good Tex-Mex experience. The waiter could have cared less about our table, had to be asked for enough chips and salsa to finish the queso we ordered, and the top shelf mexican martini tasted like water (the waiter said it was premixed and never good quality) The food was ok but not as good as I have had in past visits, very disappointing. read more

First of all, the place itself is great with accommodation for all sizes of groups. Really good Mexican restaurant feel with all of the accessories. The service is very good and very attentive to our needs. But, that's where it all ends. Some times you can tell what kind of restaurant based the utensils is invested. The fork was very thin with corsed edges. The food was very disappointed. The barbacoa tacos was saturated with so much oil that it was impossible to eat. I got a little sick due to the bad after taste from the oil. Their enchiladas are very bland in taste. The truck stop enchilada salsa taste like tomato sauce. Retried beans was so pale looking and tasteless. I will come back if real Mexican authentic tasting food is served. read more

The food is alright, the ceviche was rubbery and awful and we should have sent it back. The patio is nice and I want to like this place but I doubt we will ever go back. The margaritas are TERRIBLE and way overpriced ($15). They don't taste fresh like they claim to be and the several we had were barely drinkable (I even added more lime). We are always in the hunt for good Mexican food in Austin that's not south or downtown. Good old yelpers helped us find La Mancha and we decided to give it a try. First I ordered a frozen strawberry swirl margarita and my husband ordered a beer. Our server was very nice and ready to answer questions since I told her this was our first time trying La Mancha. I've noticed a lot of Mexican restaurant have stopped doing complimentary chips and salsa. I find it weird I'm from San Antonio and most restaurants begin with that. Guess you cut corners where you have to. So my husband ordered the chicken enchiladas Verdes which come with rice and your choice of beans. He chose black beans. I ordered over of they plates that included a really yummy fresh tasting bean and cheese chalupa, crispy beef taco and a green chicken enchilada with rice and I chose charro beans. We thought everything was DELICIOUS and would definitely come back to try other things! They do offer a happy hour, but we were there on a Sunday so there were no specials. read more

The best thing about the place, sitting at the bar, is mostly no longer allowed. They allow 4 and only 4 chairs at the bar on Mon-Wed only (someone yelled at me when I tried to move one chair over). I talked to them, and they said they need to "keep room for food pickup". I've sat there and over on the side several times and there is not that much food pickup going on. If i could give this place 0 stars, i would. The service was absolutely horrible. It was a friend's birthday and this was her choice of place since she loves the food, but when we asked if it was possible to get the complimentary dessert and possible happy birthday song from the staff, they told us that they just couldn't give it to us whatsoever. No absolute reason as to why we couldn't get that for her birthday was provided. Not like we did anything possibly wrong during that visit or anything in the past to receive service like this. This was probably my second time there! THEN, after eating my burrito bowl, there was a hair at the bottom of the bowl. How gross is that lol, like to eat majority of your bowl to find a hair that isn't even yours or your friend's mixed into your food. Also, on top of that, i had a veggie bowl and there was MEAT in it. For religious purposes, i was eating vegetarian. "I'm sorry we couldn't do anything because you ate majority of your bowl and we apologize for the meat being in there" Lol, do you think i'd eat the whole bowl if i knew there was hair in it and meat? Tried out the tacos today for "Taco Tuesday" and wasn't disappointed by the size and price. You can get the Fajita (chicken or beef) soft tacos for $3 each or they also have some other tacos for $2 each. Perfect lunch for the frugalist in me! They also give you free chips and salsa, which is one of the better salsas I've had, with refills. Can't miss on this one. Check out their other weekday lunch specials, we sure will! read more

I've read the other reviews, and while it's maybe not the best Mexican food you can find in Austin, the menu is large enough for everyone to find something that they want, and will enjoy. I don't like much in life except a good margarita which I was hoping to enjoy tonight. Key word HOPING because I never got one. It took them 1 hour to even ask me what I wanted to drink and when they finally started bringing drink to everyone at the table, mine was no where to be found. The waiter said that she would get it, unfortunately she never did bring it. I finished my meal which was one of the worst quesadillas I have ever had. Restaurant was great. Fast service. Barry was our original server but he was incredibly rude. Not like he was having a bad day rude, but intentionally letting us know that he was bothered by us. We asked for another server and got placed with Brooklyn. She was great! Sweet and patient. Barry made sure to let us know when he found out we asked for another server. Beyond rude and honestly sort of scary. I am a server myself so I understand having bad days, being tired, etc. but this was beyond that. Came with my family on a Friday night and there was no wait which was nice! We sat outside - they had a ton of indoor and outdoor seating. The house rocks margarita tasted like water at first and then the tequila hit, I only needed one. I got the numero dos and it had a good mix of enchiladas. My taco was soggy which was disappointing so it wasn't great. I did try some of the fajita meat, and it was good so that is what I'll try next time! read more

This place was quite buzzy but in a pleasant vibrant way on a thurs night. Had plenty of parking and was just very welcoming from the get go. My friend and I got a really generous pour of Sauvignon Blanc, very good here, and they also give u free chips and salsa which were very fresh and warm. I had the portobello mushroom La Mancha bowl, as I tried to opt for a healthy option and it really did not disappoint! The portion was a perfect size and with plenty of veggies. Tasted great. My friend got the tacos carnitas in a hard shell which were also delicious. The service staff were all extremely attentive and friendly. I've got to knock them down a couple stars. I'm pretty bummed about the situation. My fiance called and tried to book their back room stating that we would have 25 in a party. The manager told him that they would put us down, but that we could possibly be bumped. What?! He asked what for... Well, if they were to get a larger party. My response was "how many does the room hold"...30. So, for the massive potential"profit loss" of 5 people, you wouldn't do a concrete booking of the room? Then the manager went on to say "no worries, we'll make room for you somewhere".... My fiance told him, I would like to have the room for my rehearsal dinner, but no... That just wasn't doable. Don't get me wrong, they make fabulous food, but ultimately it doesn't matter if you're a huge fan and gave given them years of business... They're gonna need 30 people for the back room...period. I had two different kinds of margaritas, and they were both overpacked with ice and barely tequila-flavored. My lunch at La Mancha was a great experience starting from the location ending with the food. Every day they have lunch specials. Each day is different. On the day of my visit I had a combo plate of two enchiladas with rice and beans for $6.25 cook perfectly on point. The wait to be seated was not too long and the servers were very helpful. We were brought to La Mancha after flying in to Austin. There were several of us meeting up from different parts of town, and we all arrived at different intervals. The staff went ahead and sat us for a table of 8 even though not everyone had arrived yet. The wait staff took our drink orders, brought us an appetizer and kept the chips and salsa well stocked until everyone finally arrived. They were patient with us the entire time, and we were there a while. The food was delicious, as expected. I actually really enjoyed the salsa! They have a huge menu and pretty large portions. I would encourage you to peruse their menu before arriving. The decor is on point as well. La Mancha is a reference to Don Quixote, and there were bits of decor here and there that were from the story. I also like the Texas vibe of the license plate decorations (see my photos). I once saw The Man of La Mancha. It broke my heart and gave me hope for the beautiful human spirit. Also, that dude was crazy as a loon. But I got it you see, I understood his tilting at windmills and his crazy love for Dulcinea and his immense loss when he saw the world for what it was. That was back when I had culture and drive. Now I just go to places with vaguely the same name as Miguel de Cervantes' infamous tale. Jorge's was a weird place. An air of gloom hung about it with its dark wood and low lighting. I never went in there -- preferring to go to Billy's instead where I could see what the hell I was doing. Enter La Mancha. They've cleaned up the place, added interesting design elements and made it wholly approachable. My friend arrived and we promptly ordered two tex mex staples -- beef fajitas (thats redundant - but i'll spare you my south texas rant) and enchiladas. They both arrived promptly, brought in by a really excited server that reminded me of the flare dude on Office Space. We were both happy with what we got and had leftovers. Portion size, flavor, presentation and service were all well done. It's not my new down and dirty joint but it's a place for decent tex mex that's pretty and convenient to anyone in Allandale or Brentwood. I'd like it if they'd spice up the salsa and have a better happy hour but it's young. I'm not waltzing off into the night ready do defend it's honor but It's not a bad supporting cast member. read more

I'm pretty much a sucker for any place with lights hung up. So when my bf and I walked past this place yesterday, I was sucked in, like a moth to a flame. The reviews for this place are so-so, so when a friend of mine texted me later on in the evening to grab a bite to eat, I suggested La Mancha, with a bit of hesitance. When we walked inside, I was a bit shocked at how little people there were. I mean its 8 PM on a Saturday night and we had our pick of seats to sit out. This place is perfect for everything, dates, going out with friends, birthdays, family etc. Its beyond me why it was so low key on a Saturday. Our hostess was so friendly and helpful. She suggested a few of her favorite items on the menu. My friend and I split the beef fajitas for two. My bf got the truck stop enchiladas. We all split a queso with meat. The food was perfection. This place is about 3 miles from my house. Close, but thank God its not closer. If it was close I would probably have to come up with an out of paycheck payment plan. I could probably eat those beef fajitas, with a side of queso, and one of those margaritas every night of my life and die happy. The drinks were great. We tried a few of the sangria swirl, and the Margo 3-2-1. Our server recommended the Margo 3-2-1, and he was definitely right on the money. Our bill came out to $120 for three people, after 20% tip $145. Roughly $48 per person. Considering the cool decor, the excellent service from our hostess and server, the super awesome food/drinks and the fact that we had at least 2 drinks each, I may have had 3, =X, it was a really awesome deal. I would say you could probably take a friend or two out here for a treat and not break too much of a sweat. We didn't even come on a day with specials...so this place gets even cheaper! Very nice! If La Mancha was in Seattle, it would be in the upper selection of Tex Mex options. In Austin, were delicious Tex Mex abounds, La Mancha is a solid A-OK. Some things are better than others. The covered large outdoor patio is great. Inside the décor is colorful and unique, but the AC was cranked to freezing temps. Thankfully it was a perfect night to be outside. They actually have a decent selection of beers on draft. The cocktails are OK, a bit on the weak side. The Mexican martini was my favorite -comes with it's own shaker, and only $9. The rocks margarita I had was weak and was missing something. The chips and salsa and guac were lacking in flavor. Won't get the guac again. The menu is hit or miss. My husband's Quesadilla was the table winner of the night. He is picky, and he said it was one of the better quesadilla's he has ever had. It looked delicious! My chicken fajita for one was OK. I have had better in Austin. The corn tortillas looked store bought and reheated. The chicken was a bit dry and overcooked. The black beans though were tasty and fresh. The server was great. Friendly and informative. The beer was a bit slow to get delivered, but that's the only complaint. read more

+2 stars for a lovely space - think Tolix chairs meet Tex-Mex. I would probably give another 1/2 star if that were an option, but I can't quite bring myself to bump up my review to 3 stars. Why? The margaritas were fine. Nothing remarkable, but good enough for a $3 happy hour special. The food, however, was underwhelming. I went with the nachos with fajita beef on top. My plate came out with six tortilla chips covered with a super-thick layer of refried beans that made the chips soggy, a smattering of melted cheese, a few pickled jalapenos and carrots, and the blandest fajita meat I've ever tasted. Bland enough that I actually wondered if they forgot to season it. I was bummed that I spent $10 on such a lackluster dish. The server was earnest as can be, but was a bit over-eager with at least TEN offers of more chips and salsa. We said "no thanks" after the second round that we barely touched (because the salsa tasted decidedly different than the previous batch - almost soapy), so it was odd that he kept inquiring, including as we were gathering up our stuff after paying our bill. Overall, I like the signage and space, but hope that La Mancha can work out the menu and service kinks. It has the potential to be a nice addition to the neighborhood, but hasn't quite gotten there yet. read more

Worst meal I've had in a LONG time. It gets one star for the charro beans (boyfriend said they were good) and decor. (And my phone won't let me give less) 1. Our waiter was really nice, no complaints about him. He zoomed in before we even got to look at drink menu to greet us. 2. The queso with seafood.. Where was the seafood? Puréed in? It tasted fishy and over cooked (props to our waiter for taking it off since we tasted it and hated) 3. Shred your cheese. I don't want to eat shredded cheese from a bag. I don't even buy bagged shredded cheese at home. Come on La Mancha... That's lazy. 4. Salsa tastes awful. Like old tomatoes awful. 5. Fajitas should be hot and sizzling. I contemplated asking our poor server to microwave them. 6. Cold chicken and veggies make my yucky bagged cheese not melt. Good thing boyfriend doesn't like sour cream because I smothered each bite with it and used it all for me. 7. Be glad he's not writing this... He says I'm not mean enough. Really... I can make better fajitas blindfolded... Go to Chilis. Or Santa Rita. Or Lupe tortilla (I actually don't even like lupe so saying to go there over this place is something...) Excellent atmosphere, excellent service, excellent food. I've eaten here three times, and enjoyed it every time. We stopped in after church and had a great lunch. I had the shredded chicken verde enchiladas, and devoured them. Absolutely delicious. My son and his friend ate fajitas. More than enough to satisfy their hunger. They reported great flavor. My husband and daughter share chicken fajita nachos. Another delicious success. Our waitress was polite and attentive. The atmosphere is clean and colorful. Love the decor here. I don't think it's that I am a mexican food snob, I just think this city doesn't have a lot to offer when it comes to really good Tex Mex and La Mancha is the latest example of that. I love the design and the decor of the place, but as for the food, if you like bland, this is the place to get it. I went for a happy hour with coworkers. To drink I had the Mexican Martini, which was good, not great. It tasted a little watered down which is unfortunate for what's supposed to be a strong drink. We shared a few appetizers between all of us. The Firehouse No. 12 Queso which was pretty good and had a good collection of ingredients. The Americana Nachos with Chicken, the chicken was good, well flavored and tender, but I don't think the pickled jalapenos added anything to it. The Chicken Tavern Tacos, which I did not like anything about. They had some kind of flavor that made the entire thing taste sour and they were incredibly small. And Guacamole, which was nothing special. It's not a completely horrible place, but I just didn't really find anything special about it. Stopped by here on my way out of Austin, was looking for somewhere with quick service. Service was great and the food out got fast! Also had enough time to sit down and visit with family without being rushed like plenty of other restaurants do. The decorations they had up for Thanksgiving and Christmas was really cute and you could easily tell that the customers matter here. Wifey and I tried La Mancha yesterday as we were in the hood the the Shoal Creek Nursery. I liked the layout and decor of this place. Light, airy and well designed. Nice outdoor play area which several kids were taking advantage of (but not too loudly). We sat outside on covered patio (70 degrees). It was sweet. Chips and salsa were excellent. Salsa was fresh and a good amount of spice (I think there are Serrano peppers in it). Service was also excellent but not obtrusive. Everybody had a job and executed it in sync. We decided to get the $5 Green Chili Burger (Wednesday Special). Tasted great! We didn't eat bun but it looked fresh, burger was lean but not dry (I think charbroiled) and green chili sauce was on point (reminded me of NM green chili). We also shared the Ceviche which came with homemade (or just made) tortilla chips. It was fresh and a good portion size (since it was $12.99). It lacked a bit more seasoning and flavor (I make my own awesome Ceviche) but nothing a bit of Chalula hot sauce couldn't fix (they should add some to the Ceviche mix). I also had a can of Tecate beer which is only $2 on Wednesday (as well as Modelo Especial). Good deal! If you are in the mood for Tex-Mex in a nice clean airy atomosphere with fresh ingredients, great service and decent prices (they gotta pay that Austin rent) then I definitely recommend La Mancha! read more

I wanted to like this place more because it's close to my house, but it's truly meh. We went for Sunday Brunch when pretty much every other place we wanted to go was parked- and booked-up to the point that we didn't want to wait with a 6-month-old. La Mancha was 2/3 empty, which maybe should have been the first sign something was wrong. I got the Stacked Breakfast Enchiladas and nothing was really wrong with them, but they were also just disappointing. The "poblano home fries", which sounded great, were actually worse than most home fries and could have come from a frozen bag. The actual enchiladas and eggs were just too bland to really do anything other than serve as inoffensive calories. My wife got the Huevos Rancheros and they were about the same. Just missing some key flavor or something to help them stand out. Even the queso was bland. I wound up stirring in about 5 tablespoons of the salsa to make it better. In fact, the salsa might have been the best part of the meal. It was actually above average and pretty tasty. read more
