Paris has an amazing number of bakeries and patisseries. The butter makes the croissant smell wonderful, and it is so flaky you have crumbs at every bite. The best way to enjoy is to eat right away when you buys them. Sadly I made the mistake of buying too much, and hotels room does not offer toaster oven. There is always a line in front of well known bakeries, but they move fast.
Maison d'Isabelle was absolutely worth the hype and the wait. The croissants were so good that I went back every day during my 3-day stay in Paris. Everything else looked delicious too, and do not be scared by the line, it moves pretty fast. The croissants alone were enough to keep me coming back.
Winning the title of "Best Butter Croissant in Paris" is no small feat, so, naturally, I had to try Maison d'Isabelle's croissant for myself. With the first prize displayed proudly out front, there was, unsurprisingly, a line of people eagerly waiting to get their hands on a fresh croissant. We joined the line, which fortunately moved quickly. Even mid-afternoon, the pastry case was still being stocked with fresh pastries, so there was plenty of selection and turnover. When it was our turn to order, we kept it simple with a butter croissant and a ham and cheese on a baguette. Some of the pastries in the display case appeared slightly over-baked, but we were handed two fresh, perfectly golden pastries when we placed our order. As soon as we secured our goods, we stepped out of the bakery and eagerly indulged in our pastries. The verdict: Maison d'Isabelle is one of the best butter croissants I have ever tasted. There were plenty of warm, buttery layers, and the outside had a subtle crispness. The ham and cheese baguette was ok - I prefer jambon et beurre sandwiches without the lettuce and cheese, but I didn't see any in the pastry case. If you're in the area, I highly recommend treating yourself to one of the best butter croissants!
If the wafting smell of buttery croissants and the huge sign above the store showing the 2018 first place croissant prize doesn't draw you in to La Maison d'Isabelle, what will? I came on a Monday around 11:30am. There were around 5 parties in front of me, but the line moves extremely fast since I was getting to go. The lady who was taking our orders speaks English and is such a sweetheart - she was greeting everyone with a smile and helping with selections! We went with the classic croissant. And let me just say - WORTH THE HYPE!! The pastry chefs here have somehow found the perfect balance of crunch and fluff. Truly so impressed with the crunchy and flaky outside leading to a soft and layered inside. The other croissants I've had in Paris were delicious but have not had the level of crunch to their exteriors. Stop by if you're in the area! Don't be deterred by the long line as it moves very fast and the staff is kind :-)
Hearing this is one of the best bakeries in Paris, had to give this a try. Stayed about a block away, so this was the first snack/meal each morning. The line looks busy but the staff is very efficient in moving everyone along. Everything looks good in there and you couldn't go wrong on whatever you get.
If you want delicious French bakery then you need to come here to this shop. This is in Saint Germain neighborhood. I can smell their buttery baked goodness from a block away. They only have takeout so service was fast. I love their Pain Aux Raisins and Croissants. They are golden brown and flaky on the outside as well as soft and buttery with delicate layers inside. Tasted slightly salty with sweetness. I loved the buttery smell that came with all their bakery items. Highly recommend this bakery in Paris.
Service 4/5 Depending how busy it is when you are there, the workers may tend to appear to be a little rude as you decide on what you want (happens 1 out of 3 times we went) Croissants are very good. I also had their kouign amann and loved it. We enjoyed their baguette sandwiches. My wife had their tuna because she's a pescatarian. I tried their prosciutto/sun-dried tomatoes, ham sandwich & chicken/egg baguette sandwiches. My favorite is the chicken/egg. We had come here 3 times during our trip.
Literally my favorite croissant for this trip to Paris. They won't the best croissant of Paris back in 2018 and I can see why. While it looks darker than the croissants that I usually go for, I loved theirs. It has a wonderful crisp without being overly crispy. It's buttery while quite light and airy. We would get some of these every morning along with some baguettes to go along with the butter we bought for our air bnb. As for service their line moves pretty fast and they are friendly enough.
The place was packed, but the line moved quickly and honestly, it's totally worth the wait. The croissant here might be the best I've ever had. Super flakey and crunchy on the outside, but soft and buttery inside, like a warm pillow that melts in your mouth. The baguette with salami and pickles was simple but perfect... super crunchy crust, soft center, and that deep, toasty flavor you only get from real French bread. I kinda didn't expect something that plain to taste that good. The staff were nice, patient, and even switched to English without me asking, which helped a lot. The place was lively and the line was fun and kind of chaotic in the best way.
We went on a bit of a croissant food crawl and no better way to start than here, this boulangerie won an award for best Paris croissant in 2018. There was a short queue, but it moved quickly, it was around 10 mins in and out. There isn't any seating available so it's a grab and go kind of spot, we ate the croissant beside the shop. The croissant was top quality. It was flakey and crispy on the outside, while also being fluffy and soft inside. You can taste the buttery flavor throughout the croissant, the consistency was perfect. You could also tell it was freshly toasted by how hot it was in the palm of my hands. If you love croissants, definitely check them out. They're located in quite the touristy neighborhood, so you're bound to be in the area. The croissant was also very inexpensive and makes for a filling snack (hello carbs!) that will keep you going throughout the day.

The absolute BEST pain au chocolat I've had in my entire life. This spot won best croissant 2018, and I found it after some online digging for the best croissant in Paris. They don't have seating, but you wait in a long like and takeout your pastries. I got a regular croissant and a pain au chocolat. This was winter, so it was extremely cold outside and these two pastries traveled with me for around two hours before being consumed. This probably affected the texture a little since it was essentially like being in a fridge with the weather being so cold outside, but there was nothing I could really do about that. Nonetheless, the croissants were fantastic. They were not only outwardly beautiful but also so so delicious. The regular croissant super buttery and dense - you can tell they pack that with high quality ingredients. On the other hand, the pain au chocolat was absolutely incredible. The light crispy flaky sides and top crunchy layer perfectly enveloped the chocolate sticks and buttery layers inside. I can without a doubt say that was my favorite pain au chocolat of all time. I don't think anything will ever compare to this again. read more

Have been probably 10 times since 2018 and, while I appreciate that they are open Sunday and that they also have croissants available even if you come late in the day, I've never had a croissant there that wasn't too browned on the top. I really like their chocolate cake, their kouign-Amman and pain aux raisins are excellent and even their baguettes are quite good but every time I get a croissant it is overcooked on the top of it. I see the awards and I know that they are a huge deal but every damn time it's burnt on top. I don't really love that area of the left bank so don't really go there often but it's good for a quick non-croissant pastry. read more
I wondered where people were getting their baguettes from and followed a crowd of people. I knew I had to try it when I saw a sign that that they had the best croissants in Paris and had numerous trophies displayed on the counter. They had sooooo many options... sandwiches, quiche, mini pastries, cheesecake, bread, croissants and pain au chocolat. We selected a few items and were absolutely satisfied. read more

Best croissant I've ever had! My recent trip to Paris was a revelation as to how great croissant can be. Incredibly flaky and crusty exterior, buttery rich layer upon layer, so very simple but so extremely well executed with precise expertise. With the heavy throughput, and the several ovens baking croissants right behind the counter, these morsels of enchantment were delightful from the first bite and easily had me reaching for a second! I can easily see why they received acclaim for their croissant in the past but wondered how much better can this be if they didn't win the best croissant award for the current year? Is there really a better one!? I did subsequently try other croissants on the trip, none where as transcendent as La Maison! I'm not going to hide the fact that I packed a few in my carryon for my plane ride home. Not gonna say how many I brought back,.... LOL. Let's just say TSA was surprised. On my first visit, I arrived late on a Tuesday morning and the line was 20 deep, (if that isn't your first clue that this is good,..), but it moved very quickly as the service staff are no nonsense, nimble and efficient. Have an idea what you want before you get close to the pastry showcases and you'll be on your way to enjoying a French institution in a heartbeat. read more

We were on the search for the best croissants in Paris. After a lot of unsuccessful attempts at finding one, this was where it's at. The croissant might look burnt but omg, it was good - not burnt at all. Super flaky and buttery. We got a baguette, croissant, croque monsieur, coffee eclair and a Paris brest. All were amazingly delicious except the coffee eclair. The coffee eclair was definitely a miss. The croque monsieur was another show stopper. It was savoury and crispy. I was obsessed. There was a little bit of a line but it goes fast. You better know what you want when you get to the till as they are very fast paced. Definitely give this place a try. Next time I'm in Paris, I would definitely go again. read more

Wanting croissants whilst in Paris, I did some research and quickly found La Maison d'Isabelle! Since the business received a distinguished award for their butter croissants in the past, I figured I had to give it a try. I arrived around 10:30am on a Sunday morning. There was a bit of a line but it wasn't too long so I hopped in. I ordered one butter croissant and one pain au chocolat. As soon as I stepped outside, I dug into the pain au chocolat. I almost don't have words to describe how amazing it was. It was flaky on the outside and so soft on the inside. It was really warm so the chocolate just melted away in my mouth. Even the pigeons attacked the crumbs that slipped away from me onto the side walk. As for the butter croissant, it similarly was very flaky on the outside and so soft on the inside. The goods themselves were also very affordable at 2.50 euros total for my purchase. The line was definitely getting longer after I had ordered my food. The staff was very efficient and friendly! The displays also showed many more delicious things to offer aside from the croissants. Overall, I really enjoyed my experience here and would 100% come again! Highly recommend! read more

My friend recommended this bakery to me but upon arrival, it was apparent this was a highly popular spot in Paris. There were two lines - one line to a small stand where they only sold limited bakery items including their famous croissants and another line into the actual store to buy their other bakery items. We stood in the line for the croissants and it moved quickly. We ordered one croissant and two chocolate croissants and the total was less than €4. Both were amazing but I loved the regular croissant - so flaky and buttery on the outside with the softest, doughy bread on the inside. By far the best croissant I had in all of Paris. Given their popularity, the line and wait wasn't bad at all and their prices are so reasonable. I would 100% visit La Maison every single time I'm in Paris. read more

This is an amazing shop with lovely and creative pastries. The croissants won an award in 2018 but whatever they did them they are just as good in 2025! I loved the creative little pigs! read more
Amazing croissants, possibly the best I've ever had! My friend and I were grabbing breakfast nearby when we decided to pick up some croissants for our bus ride the next day. After a quick google/yelp search, we came across La Maison d'Isabelle and decided to give it a try. It was hopping on a Saturday morning! There were two lines, a shorter one on the left to buy croissants and other popular baked goods, and a longer one on the right to walk into the bakery for the full range of items. We got into the left line which moved pretty quickly and bought 2 croissants and 1 pain au chocolat. Even though we just had breakfast, we wanted to try the croissant fresh and took a few bites. It was SO good! I'm not a huge croissant person in general, but even I really liked it here. It was super soft on the inside while maintaining a nice crispy exterior. Would highly recommend to anyone visiting Paris! read more

Easily the second best croissant I've ever had. The best ever is in Montreal. Sorry, PARIS. I also had a pear tart and a baguette! Everything was so freaking good! On a quest to find the best croissant after a search this place came up as the best in the area so we stopped by to give it a try. When we got here there was quite the line to go in, good sign? Sure it's not a very big place & the line moved rather quickly so that was good. They sell all kinds of pastries & different breads they also have a nice display of trophy's. We went for just simply the Classic croissant & it did not disappoint , nice & warm flaky it was very good, we enjoyed it. Fast pase inside u are in & out pretty quickly, fast service & decent prices. read more

This wasn't a planned stop, but I came across this place in a local market square on our way to the Notre Dame. Absolutely glad I did. The bakery has just about every common French pastry at very reasonable prices. Food: - Croissant - Excellent. When they say they make the best, they mean it. Flaky on the outside, buttery and fluffy on the inside. Nothing like typically dry ones you get in the US. Each bite leaves you craving for more. - Pain au chocolat - Great. Soft flaky pastry with rich chocolate rolled inside. (Tip: these pastries are meant to be eaten right away or within day, otherwise they start to go stale and won't taste the same as when they come out of the oven) Service: Great. There was a line of about 5-10 people, it moves pretty quickly since they have multiple servers behind the counter ready to take orders and fast billing. Worth the wait. Ambiance/Vibe: Great. Small bakery in a local market area. You see locals and tourists shopping at this bakery. Cost/Value: Excellent. 1.30 euro for a croissant this good is a steal. Highly recommend buying a few items so you have something to snack on for the next day or two. Visit again? Definitely yes. A trip to Paris is not complete without eating a great croissant. read more

I was so sad because we got here later in the day but they had already sold out of their famous plain croissant :( so we ended up just ordering a pain au chocolat and a cinnamon roll type croissant. 5 stars alone should go to the pain au chocolat bc it truly was amazing, however the cinnamon one wasn't great read more

They won the best croissant a few years ago so we visited this spot for the croissants and pain au chocolat. They ran out of the croissants and the pain au chocolat the first time we popped by. They told us to come back in an hour for the next batch of croissants. We came back an hour later and got the croissants. They were still warm. My fiancé wanted to watch the world cup finals at the bar next door. I took a bit of the croissants and it was no doubt the best tasting croissant that I've tasted in my life so far. It was warm, flaky, buttery and crisp on the outside. It was so good! I had to go back next door during half time to order 2 more since I didn't want to share. I also ordered the chocolate log and the chestnut cake. The chocolate log was very presentable. It was also delicious. I normally like chestnut cake but I felt the flavor wasn't too strong here so I wouldn't get again. The croissant was only 1.20 euro! read more
Spent the day in Paris and this my breakfast stop of choice. They have lots of accolades thus draws a crowd but they have a very efficient system and it moves pretty quick. It's a takeout spot so not seats. Most just grab and eat it on the way to their next destination. There are plenty of parks close by, I enjoyed my pastries along the Seine people watching. They don't serve coffee, but the staff was nice enough to recommend a place close by that offered a nice latte. It's hard to choose since they have so many options here but the croissants is a must try. I also really love their Kouign-aman. If you can get them while they are still warm, it's just chef's kiss! read more

They have a reputation for the best croissant. They're really good! Really buttery and flakey! This place is really popular so there will be a long line, but it will move fast. Despite the bustling crowd and the ever-present line, the service remained swift and efficient (this is a grab and go place). We got the classic croissant and a chocolate croissant. The classic was simple, yet perfect. Each bite was buttery and flaky. The chocolate one was a decadent delight, it was as light as air, yet filled with flavor. In a city renowned for its pastries, this humble spot has managed to stand out amongst the crowd, and it's easy to see why. read more

We went there because a stranger recommended them for their croissants. They were absolutely wonderful. I also bought a large strawberry tart for one of my traveling companion's birthday...there was a fight for the last piece it was that good. My housemates came here the day before our flight home to buy croissants for people back home. They put them in a plastic container so they wouldn't get squashed. They said they arrive back intact and were so good even after the trip. I bought a Kouign Amann to eat on the plane on my flight home from Paris. Even a day later, it was so good. My friend highly recommended this place and it lived up to her hype! The croissant was absolutely delicious, highly recommend! Its more of a walk up bakery and there were a few pigeons flying around inside the space. If it was closed off and indoors it would be better but still a delicious bakery. Hands down the best croissant I've ever had. And we went to 7 bakeries for croissants around Paris that week. There is so much traffic that you can always get a warm freshly baked croissant. Simply put, this will be the best croissant you will ever eat in your life. There really is nothing more ( or less) that can be said about the experience of having one of this bakery's croissants. When in Paris you are cheating yourself out of an extraordinary experience if you don't stand in line for one of these little mouth-watering miracles. read more

First Impressions: Seriously, I could smell the baked goods from down the street. The bakery is opened the street and the wafting smells of sweets and spice would have lured me inside even if I wasn't already heading there. This spot is reputed to have some of the BEST croissants in all of Paris so of course it made it onto my brother's hit list of the top 12 spots for croissants. Everyone was super nice and friendly (despite our terrible French) and very patient with us as we were looking over everything and deciding what to order The Noms: The croissants did not disappoint. They were buttery and flakey and perfect on their own (though I do like to slather jam on it or have it with some ham and cheese tucked into the middle). Hands down my ABSOLUTE FAVORITE item on the whole menu is the Kouign-amman. Those babies are BEYOND anything I've ever had. My only regret is I only got two and by the time I tried to head back for more, they were sold out. SOLD OUT!? For the Love of God, WHHHYYY??? Lesson of the day, always... ALWAYS buy more Kouign-ammans than you think will will be able to eat. UGH. We got a handfull of other goodies, some fruit tarts, a chocolate éclair, a caramel éclair, etc etc. We made a meal of it and just OD'd on pastries, I'm pretty sure we all got diabetes at the end of the day. In Conclusion: I would (no lie) fly back to Paris just to eat more Kouign-amman's from this bakery. It's just THAT good. Do yourself a favor, learn from my mistake, order DOUBLE of the number of Kouign-ammans you think you'll eat. 10/10 would recommend this spot (one of my favorite bakeries in all of Paris)!! read more
