I had a pleasant experience at La Madeleine in Sugar Land City Centre. There's plenty of parking and lots of tables inside if you're dining in. When you walk in, you'll see a line at the register for to-go orders--so if you're eating inside, make sure you don't get stuck waiting in the wrong line. On this visit, I ordered the ham and cheese Danish, and it was really tasty. The pastry had a nice, flaky crust, and the ham and cheese filling was well balanced and flavorful. The staff were friendly and welcoming, as always. One helpful tip: ask for your receipt, because you can fill out a quick survey and get a free pastry. When dining in, they also provide complimentary bread with jam, along with hot water and tea, which is a nice touch. Disappointing - Sloppy specialty coffee and stale pistachios chocolate croissant. Ordered the coffee / croissant combo around 3:30'ish for an afternoon "tea-break". This was my latest go-to promotion. The coffee came back sub-standard ( this was not the 1st time I ordered the caramel macchiato ) while the croissant was so stale that it felt like it was days-old. While the cashier staff and service staff were very courteous and friendly, the staff behind the order counter were focused on chatting among themselves as the cafe wasn't too busy at the time. I went to brunch with my mom and sister! I've never been to this place and wanted to try something new. It's a very cozy French place for brunch with lots of food and pastries! I got the Chicken Salad Croissant with chips. I will say that the croissant is small and lots of chips are provided to hide the fact that the croissant is really small. It still tasted really good but I still felt very hungry. It was $10 for the plate before tax. This location has had some serious drop offs in accuracy, keeping items in stock, keeping staffed, and serving food that was properly heated since the start of the pandemic. I was trying to give them a couple of chances before writing a negative review, but today is a clear cut case of running a promotion and failing to properly staff or prepare for what was going to be going on. For Bastille Day, the corporate office was promoting a BOGO entree deal, dine-in only. Naturally, the parking lot was packed and the line was wrapping through the store. The restaurant had clearly not staffed well enough to manage the flow. The cashiers were overwhelmed, the hot items were completely absent, and there were over a dozen tables in need of clearing up so that dine in customers could actually sit at them and eat. At two different points during the time in line (about 30 customers ahead of me), they paused service because they'd run out of food and couldn't churn out entrees (the only thing they were allowing on the BOGO) fast enough. When I got to the front of the line line, about 30 minutes after initially getting into line, the line was paused again, this time for over 25 minutes. I'm literally standing in front of the cash register right now at the 55 minute mark, waiting for them to take my order because I came here to claim the promotion that was the sole reason I walked in the door. I'd let the girl in front know that I had my laptop with me, I would be working, and it would be no trouble to wait a long time for my food to be delivered. Instead of taking my order, she proceeded to have me wait at the register to order, unable to go to my table and work on anything for the duration of the time I was waiting on her to be able to take orders. Customers have completely given up on the staff, bussing their own tables and consolidating piles of dirty dishes on other unused tables. Of course, they're not good at this and stack things precariously, which already resulted in items falling off a table and breaking on the floor. One east Asian family also started putting dirty trays back on the clean tray rack, creating a mess of cross-contamination. The counter service employees completely ignored it, so I had to report it to an employee who unknowingly placed clean trays amidst dirty trays. The poor frontline employees are completely overwhelmed. They closed the to go ordering multiple times but still have to honor online orders because no one has bothered to report the back to the online system. Now dine in customers have gotten upset and have started ordering online to bypass the line even if they aren't going to get the BOGO entree deal. The worst part was that some dine in customers walked over to the to go area "just order a soup" and were served dine in items ahead of the people in line, ignoring our protests. The order taker girl tried to suggest that I could order a drink and get in line again when they restarted orders for entrees. I told her I'd already been in line over 50 minutes and I'd rather just wait a few more rather than get in line and start from the back all over again. The girl was apologetic and offered me an item from the bakery goods case as an apology for the delay. I said "sure" and turned towards the case to see what little they had left. She got called away for who knows what, and never came back. At one point, the employees tried to tell customers that they still had some soups and salads available for immediate order, but everyone looked at them like they were stupid because everyone in line (a good 20 people behind me) was in line specifically for the BOGO entree deal. The lady behind me jumped ahead to order a couple of salads because her elderly sick mother didn't want food About 1 hour and 15 minutes into my wait, they finally let me place an order. I filled my drinks, went back to my table, and sat down. The guy behind me (behind the lady with the sick mother) gave up entirely and left. Of course, there was no bread available, no clean glasses for drinks, barely any clean silverware, and drink stations that were a mess and completely being neglected. My entrees were delivered about 15 minutes later, meaning they pretty much wasted about 45 minutes of my time that could have been spent working while they figured out their mess in the kitchen. Of course, the runner only brought the entrees, not the mushroom soups that I ordered. She took my number from the table, so I'm not sure how we're going to get the rest of our order. Oh well, I'm going to eat this entree before it gets cold after 90 minutes waiting for it. This is an absolute fiasco and the worst I've seen this location run in forever. read more

We were here for the Bastille Day promotion. I've been here before it was okay enough, but this was just utter chaos. This place was not prepared. The promotion was basically a buy one get one free entrée. My husband was in line for over an hour, just for them to be like...we ran out of food...hot food. Me and another older couple had the same thought. An older lady had her husband wait in line while she and her elderly mother snagged a table. I was sitting in a table. She kept going up and giving me updates about how the hot food was stopped and they were only offering salads and soups, but they would not turn off the online order feature. Everyone ordering online was able to get hot food, but we weren't? She then came to tell me that the to-go food item had the same problem and people were leaving the eat in line, to go to the to-go line and after maybe 20 minutes they started giving them hot food orders. (Side note, this is post Beryl and we had AC/Fridge issues, so that wasn't an option for us.) On my end, my husband had asked for the tables to be bussed, even the table me and the other older couple were staking out at were filthy, and we politely flagged over a lady to help us. There were tables with plates, trash, whatever stacked and I couldn't tell if that was the patrons or if the bussers were burning out and trying to place everything. It was nuts. The older couple gave up and ordered soup/salad, with the elderly mother of the older lady. My husband had to wait for the kitchen to open/close/before they even took his order. We weren't even sure if we would get it. We got served the beef entree, but they never gave us the soups. I wanted to be patient and be like well it was a rough week, but when the older lady went to yell, she was an older lady y'all, like in her 60s, yell about the wait, the inconsistencies and service she was given a free hot meal order, was able to talk to a manager, and got a number to corporate. My husband never once yelled (and I don't blame the older lady either, her elderly mom was agitated, hungry and that wasn't fair to that elderly lady at all) and he was straight up stone walled. No, a manager couldn't really speak to him. No one could deal with him, here's a number to the Ops Manager. Did they forget as the older lady was telling me what she did a female staff member came to our table to interrupt our conversation to hand her a card with corporate's number and an update on her sandwich order. They told my husband...oh no...we don't have that. Dude, that's a LIE. A bold faced lie. I'm so done with this location. Their picking and choose who they want to help, whose complaints they care about irritated me to no end. La Madeleine used to have one of my favorite desserts -- the Petite Lemon Tarts. Unfortunately, since they changed the recipe, they've become almost inedible. Instead of the smooth, tangy lemon cream that made them so delicious, they're now filled with a super sweet, artificial-tasting jelly. The crust is also overly sugary, as if it's made of nothing but butter and sugar. It's so sweet that it literally breaks apart when you bite it -- a real sugar bomb. What used to be a light, refreshing treat is now so heavy and cloying that after eating just one tart, I feel nauseous for hours. I used to enjoy two without a problem, but not anymore. Please, bring back the original recipe! It was perfectly balanced, refreshing, and truly one of the best desserts you offered. La Madeline is one of those places you always kind of see, but never really step foot into unless you have a good reason to. Our reason was a gift card, and we were pretty excited as neither one of us have been here in years! To start off, you're greeted by a display of pastries when you walk in. They all looks pretty good, but nothing spectacular caught my eye. For our meal, my husband and I decided to try to go a bit healthier today (minus the soup) and ordered the cranberry and pecan salad with added chicken (an additional $2.59), the chicken La Madeline, and a bowl of tomato basil soup (a cup was $5.49, a bowl was $6.49). The salad came out with steaming chicken, which made the salad appear steaming, which seemed super odd. But the taste was actually pretty good! There were a good amount of pecans and cranberry's on a bed of spring greens. The balsamic vinaigrette was not overly powering, which was great. The tomato basil soup was my absolute favorite. At the drink and bread station, you help yourself to as much or as little bread as your carbo loading heart desires. We grabbed plenty of bread to dip with the hearty and creamy soup - which had the perfect tanginess and consistency. The chicken la Madeline was a total totally let down. I got the mushroom sauce on the side (hence why the chicken looks so naked). The consistency of the chicken was just odd. Almost like it was pounded out, shoved in a corner, and forgotten about. The taste was a bit lackluster, even after dipping it in the mushroom sauce. The broccoli had no seasoning, which was fine for us trying to eat better. The rice was pretty good - it was flavorful enough and a nice additional to the chicken. The cashier and waitstaff were all super friendly and nice. The ambiance is very casual and everyone eating there seems to be having a good time. Overall, I may be back for the soup and salad, but would try something besides the chicken la Madeline. read more

Both include three different options that make for good variety, you can choose between salad, soup or a baked pastry. My go to soup is usually the cream of mushroom but today I decided to go with the tomato basil. I used to get the tomato basil a lot in the past because it was a La Madeline staple, but recently I have found it to be a little too acidic for my liking. Regardless it pairs nicely with the complimentary bread that they have. I like to dip the bread into the soup to balance out the sourness of the tomato. Some other favorites of mine include their chicken salad and their chicken friand. I have always found the service pleasant and quick especially when you are in a rush for lunch. Don't place delivery orders at this La Madeleine's location in Sugar Land Town Center! I recently placed an order with this La Madeleine's location in Sugar Land Town Center through Door Dash on Monday, 1/20 before the severe snow storm came into town. When the order was delivered, we discovered that it was missing the Classic Caesar Salad with Salmon. I called the restaurant up to inform staff that the entree was missing in the Door Dash delivery. The lady in charge of the to-go orders apologized. She said that they could not deliver the entree themselves and that I needed to submit another Door Dash order for the missing item. She said that they would be able to refund the cost of the first missing entree to me, however. After 4 days of waiting on 1/23, I checked my account and noticed that I did not receive a refund for the missing entree. So I called the restaurant in the afternoon and spoke to an unhelpful guy who was responsible for to-go orders. He told me that a refund was not possible and that I needed to go through Door Dash even though it was the fault of La Madeleine's staff that the entree that I paid for was not placed in their delivery bag. This guy did not apologize for the mistake nor did he show any concern at all that I was having difficulty getting back the money I paid & that they so willingly took without delivering the ordered food. I heard from a family member that she has often experienced trouble with her Door Dash orders at this La Madeleine's location. I will never place a Door Dash order with this restaurant again, and I advise anyone reading this review not to do so either as you might be missing items in your delivery and are unable to get a refund for it. read more

I had La Madeline last night. I ordered a cup of French onion soup, a cup of broccoli cheddar soup, a cup of pasta salad, crème Brulé and strawberry romanoff while my husband had a prime rib sandwich. Well they were out of broccoli cheese soup, but that's ok I get that... the French Onion Soup has alway come with some cheese and a piece of bread. This was just onions and some broth... the Crème Brûlée (auto correct twice and it was corrected two different ways) anyhow ... the crème brule was not thick and custard type with a hard cruchy sugar coating but it was liquified pudding like I don't know how to describe it with a liquidy syrupy type coating. This was not the dessert I was looking for LOL after one bite I knew something was amiss... it looked ok at first glance but it was far from ok! The strawberry romanoff looked like they hit the local grocery store or even convenience store and grabbed the first pint of strawberries they could find. Usually they have amazing strawberries ... but not now... So you tell me ... Is it due to shrinkflation ? Or Is it due to an owner who doesn't care what type of product is being put out? Hmm is it management or just employees? My husband was doubtful when he placed the order that the guy got it right because he seemed distracted and uninterested... when he picked up the food he was met by a rude female employee.... business need to have more customer service TRAINING for employees who interact with the customers.... your business depends on it! Been a while since I've been to La Madeleine. Met a good friend for coffee and dessert. We pretty much had the place to ourselves around 8 on a Thursday evening. A decent size spot with outdoor seating but even at this time in August it was too warm for that. A good amount of dessert choices but it ended up being a Sacher evening as the Torte and Torte Parfait were ordered. Also, got a Cappuccino. Sparkling water/Seltzer (free) was available via fountain machine which was a nice touch. The Sacher Torte -I've had the real thing in Vienna and it is amazing! Le Madeline's version was very good-intense chocolate flavors & they use raspberry preserves vs apricot jam so a bit of a twist. The Sacher Torte Parfait was enjoyed also. Cappuccino paired nicely with the Torte. The ladies behind the counter were helpful and service minded. If I'm in Sugar land and want a Sacher Torte, this is the spot. read more

They have clearly marked placements on the floor for social distancing purposes, hand sanitizer, and all employees were wearing masks. Masks are required to enter as well. On a cold day the tomato basil soup is definitely the best choice!! I ordered the soup along with the pesto pasta which comes with a fresh/warm baguette and both were absolutely amazing. This place used to be so good. The service has gone down tremendously. Extremely unprofessional, rude staff. The young guy with braces at the cashier just stared at us not saying anything. When we said we just wanted water, he looked at us with judgement and said "if you say so" with a nasty tone. I could see that we weren't the only ones being treated like this. The roof was leaking right by the place where you ordered. The food was the same. Cold salads, warm soup and the bread was delicious. After paying, you get your utensils, drinks and complimentary bread slices. There was another leak there and floor wet signs and a bucket to catch the leak. one person slid and caught herself before falling. There was no one to clear your plates, so we did it ourselves before desserts.
