I had a Horchata Macchiato it had a bit too much milk for me I only drank a little- it had great flavor- I tried to get it made with non-milk but it was not available. I first found La Horchateria at a Yelp Event but made a return visit earlier this month as I was that impressed with the shop. I received just as great service if not better on my return visit. They are not fast as everything is made to order but you do not wait long for what you order and so fresh. I wanted to try a waffle. It was a little hard to eat out of the box but it had a lot of blueberries and strawberries. I was expecting a little nutella but it had a lot. I would have preferred it with just the fruit so will order it that way next time. I also ordered the dulce de leche mini pancakes again and churros. I ordered those to go. Was in need of coffee when I ran into this place in Raleigh. When walking in, there are plenty of drink options and pastries. I ended up getting the horchata latte with less ice and I have to say that it was absolutely phenomenal. Great blend between coffee and horchata. Came here originally as part of a Yelp elite event but myself and my spouse also got some items off the regular menu. I got the monkey açaí bowl and it was SO GOOD. My spouse got the one with fruity pebbles on it and also enjoyed it. They also got the iced horchata macchiato and really enjoy it - I tried a sip and agree it was really good! We got a mazapan Horchata (a peanut based Mexican dessert) and a mini concha ice cream sandwich with Horchata ice cream and a dulce de leche drizzle. Both were amazing. Great little hidden gem tucked away off of Atlantic. I like the vibe inside with the neon lettering and cheeky signs. I know it's most likely just because of COVID, but I wish they opened earlier. I've been wanting to try their tres leche and cereal milk lattes, but since they don't open until 11am I can never seem to make the coffee timing work out. They have a solid covid setup with partitions to protect employees and all the chairs tied up. They also have markers on the floor for social distancing. I went in the afternoon and tried out their horchata and churros. Both were excellent. The horchata was super flavorful and not watered down like you experience at so many places. The churros were made fresh and the dips were great. My favorite dip was I'm guessing like a tres leches. I saw on social that they sell a horchata concentrate. Not only is it creamy, sweetened to perfection and not watered down, but they have so many flavors such as strawberry horchata, coconut horchata, and oatchata made from oat milk. The churros are also excellent. My two star dock is for their pan dulce and lack of enforcing their social distancing policy they had on the door. My pan dulce was extremely dry and crumbly, and tasted a little stale. This was a cozy nice spot. They had a few tables and we sat to eat our treats. The service was basic, they were not mean but also not very nice. We had the churros and dipping sauce. The churros were made to order and came out fresh. I am not a huge fan of a lot of cinnamon and this had a lot, but I can easily shake the excess off. These were not that good to me, they were not sweet and even with the dipping sauce it didn't pull everything together. My family ate the rest although they were not that impressed either. I'm disappointed in this place after so much hype... My boyfriend and I stopped in here because I had a credit to use from Offline. I got an iced latte and he got a smoothie. The prices on this place's menu would make you think you're in a bougie spot, so I expected the quality to be very high. Unfortunately, that wasn't our experience. The honey cinnamon iced latte with oatmilk, which I got, was a let down. Around $6 for a large. The cup was filled from top to bottom with ice... which is so annoying and makes me not want to order iced coffee drinks even though I prefer them over hot drinks. The espresso in the drink was really delicious, I will say. But the latte was really sweet - which was disappointing since I asked the cashier if it would be really sweet, and she said no. I get that it's a subjective question, but maybe a bit more help than "no" would've pointed me in a different direction. The smoothie that my boyfriend got was especially disappointing. It looked more like a slushie than a smoothie because of how much plain ice was used in it (not frozen fruit). He also said it was really tart, which was strange since it was a berry smoothie. To top it all of, the service was just kinda meh. I don't think a single person smiled at us while we were there or tried to engage with us beyond what was absolutely necessary. I likely won't return to this place even though I love churros. read more
