There's not a whole lot of steak places in this part of the world But a friend told us about Hacienda and we were hungry and Edgewood so we drove out to Moriarty and we're very pleasantly surprised. My family and I wandered in after a long day on the road and we were acutely aware that it was :15 before their stated closing time. I warned my children that they may turn us away as we were walking in the door. I could not have been more wrong! We were welcomed like long lost friends! Our hotel told us they had a full bar, but they do not. Whatever, they had the second wine we requested. The chips and salsa were delicious. The salsa had more heat than expected and it was sooo good. My children ordered cheese enchiladas with red sauce and both complained it was spicy. It had some heat and I asked for a side of sour cream for them. I ordered the combo with the rellano, enchilada, y taco. I asked for the green sauce because we're in NM! It was amazing. So much yum!! We scarfed up our meal and scooted on out of there as soon as possible because it was after their closing time, but no one rushed us at all. I thanked everyone for letting us eat as we were heading out and they told us to come again. We absolutely will the next time we're in Moriarity!! read more

So I will speak of the positives first! The restaurant was clean. The food was good, just a little too spicy for me. But that's my personal preference. When we walked in the signs said wait to be seated..........little did we know that they are serious about the "wait". We had to wait to be seated for an unexpected amount of time. They have a lot of steak items on their menu, but the hostess/waitress told us at the door that "we don't have any steaks today". That was fine because we weren't there for the steaks. But I did see a couple people turn around and leave after they were told. We waited about 15 minutes to be seated after we had already told her that we would like to sit at the bar. She put us at a table even though we requested the bar, so that we could watch TV. We had to wait 1 hour and 20 minutes to be served our food after we ordered. They only have beer and wine. The wine margarita was nothing to write home about. But I did like the sugar ring! Here's the most negative part of our experience: Our waitress/food server was extremely short with us. She walked away while we were trying to order drinks. She forgot to bring us our water and when I tried to order a second Wine Margarita she just walked away. I asked her for a different salsa secondary to the one that they served was too hot for me. I understand that it's my problem if I can't handle the heat, but she turned her back to us and said "that's ALL we have"! They did have Pico de Gallo on their menu, but she didn't offer it nor did she return to our table so that I could order some. (Willing to pay!). She never asked us if we needed anything else. No water refills! No chip refills! No beer refill for my husband! The couple that were sitting behind us asked for a To Go container which she never brought to them. She ended up bringing it after they gave up and left. We didn't even add to our own frustrations by asking for ANY To Go containers. We left our left overs at the restaurant. Here's the thing man, this place is good. However just like others have stated in their reviews boy o boy they do take quite the time to get your food to you. Service is good, but brace yourself you're going to be eating a couple bowls of chips before you get your plate. The food on the other hand is great! It really does taste good. Food is quite good! Had Enchilada, Taco, Relleno combo plate and Asada Chimichanga. My only gripe is that they serve Pepsi instead of Coke. Try to avoid using the bathroom. Half the facilities don't work, the toilet water is suspiciously opaque and the soap is basically queso. Service is also good, though they close rather early. We were driving through town and hungry. We wanted something other than fast food, so we checked out yelp and decided to give this place a try. We pulled up right at 5 o'clock and the parking lot was empty, we went in and the restaurant was empty... that made us a little nervous, but like I said we were hungry. The service was well. I asked for grilled shrimp, because fajitas on the menu offered them and the waitress told me I could get them fried or marinated in their sauce. My partner got the shrimp and the sauce on the shrimp was absolutely disgusting. This place is only open Tue-Saturday from 4-8 each day. I would recommend closing for good. read more

My first and last experience with La Hacienda tonight. Arrived around 5 pm and left around 7 pm, it took So Long to get any service. Not Recommended. I requested they add hamburger to my queso and they would not accommodate my request. They said the queso was just plain cheese with salsa. I asked for a margarita and they said they only had margarita-flavored beer and only in strawberry so we said no thanks. It took an hour to get my food after ordering. (Other tables were serviced before mine.) Then, the food delivered was the incorrect order. Then after receiving the food my friend noted her sirloin beef enchilada tasted like fish. I tried it and it did have distinct taste of fish, as if they were using same cooking pans or knives for both meat and fish. When checking out I asked the waitress for a discount for the fish flavored enchilada as my friend could not finish her food, and she checked with the manager would not give a discount. She said there was not way those two (beef and fish) could have been mixed. So the manager did not even give me, the customer, the benefit of the doubt or any discount. So, because this was a quite a terrible experience tonight, I cannot recommend La Hacienda. read more

I'm guessing the great state of New Mexico might be the only place in north America a traveler can pull off the highway and find some random place and it's some of the best Mexican food you ever had. Now granted I am from the east coast which is not exactly home to great Mexican cuisine, but I have been to Mexico several times and I do live in the land of fresh seafood. I have no idea where they are getting fresh fish and shrimp from, but it's fantastic and fresh. This place is not exactly right off the highway. It took a tiny bit of GPS'ing. I had yelped it and was not steered wrong. Even though we were traveling, I took a box and bought ice just so I could store my leftovers. Excellent service also. We live in Moriarty, and I'm ashamed to say that tonight was our first visit to La Hacienda. (We've enjoyed Nachos, the owner's first restaurant, for years.) We enjoyed the Ceviche and Mexican Shrimp cocktails...I was actually shocked at how delicious and fresh they were. They were also beautifully presented. We all had a wine based margarita...again, really good and so pretty! (you'll hardly miss the tequila!) I had red chile beef enchiladas, my husband had a green combo plate, a friend had the chicken chimichanga. Everyone was totally happy. The portions are huge, the prices are really reasonable. The red chile was awesome. The building, which used to house a steakhouse/bar, is charmimgly decorated. We will definitely be back. read more

Their food was amazing! We were told by a friend to try this restaurant and we were pleasantly surprised to know that there's this great restaurant fairly close to home. The shrimp cocktail was really tasty just the way we're used to and was the perfect appetizer. The surf & turf was also great (and the buttered shrimp has this amazingly yummy red chili sauce that wasn't hot so our kids LOVED it). My husband and I shared the 14oz ribeye. It was cooked to perfection and came with a baked potato and asparagus. The servings were large (and I forgot to mention their salsa that came with the chips was the best). Love this place! Chile is outstanding and food quality is excellent. Tap beer pints are $4 and there's a wide range to choose from. They also serve wine. We live 12 miles away, but come at least once a week. read more
