One of my favourite restaurants in Sevilla. A guy working at a kiosk overheard us talking while walking around the city looking for a place to eat and recommended La Gorda. His recommendation did not disappoint. The food was really good. We ordered a mix of tapas; shrimp skewers, fried bacalao, tuna tataki, salad and an Andalusian meat stew with potatoes shared between two. The restaurant sits under the encarnacion mushroom structure (offers a cool view from the upper deck - check it out) and was a two minute walk from where we were staying. Service was decent. There was some confusion as to whom was serving us as a couple of people came to our table to take our orders only to realize someone else already had. No big deal. The wait staff were quick on their feet and polite. We got our money's worth and were satisfied.

Brought my aunt and uncle here to experience Spanish tapas. Was pleased with the broad range in options on the menu and the quality of food. We ordered about 8 plates!! The best was the juicy Iberian pork dish and the croquettes. Also loved the tostada with fish and salmorejo. Waitstaff was very friendly and attentive and helpful in making decisions!

Very classic tapas options here plus a beautiful view of Las Setas. We had the tortilla which was one of their specials. It was really good, there were chunks of onion in it which is always delicious! It was a good size for the amount they charged. We then had the zucchini au gratin. There were only two slices of zucchini in the tapa which was slightly disappointing and the tomato sauce they used was not overly delicious. Finally we had the chicken kebab tapa. Being a tapa I figured it would be small, but we got one little kebab of three pieces of chicken and about 6 French fries. The chicken was seasoned and cooked very well--just wish it would have been a bit bigger! If I return I will get the full portion of it! If you are in the area, stop in! They have some nice options to choose from and the staff was super friendly!

Great value for the money. Good service and good food. Atmosphere is a bit lacking. Try the Andalusian-style dishes.

Know in advance there are two options, if you want to eat here …read more.. 1. Book a table online ... There is a cancellation policy, so you will need to put down a credit card and around 15 Euro per person to hold the time/date. You will have access to a sit-down table and a waiter and full-plated menu and fancy tapas. VERY IMPORTANT ... Know by sitting at a table with a reservation, you will pay 3 - 5 times the price for the same tapas on the bar side! 2. Show up and get a seat in the bar area for tapas. This is first come, first serve and there was a line of around 5 people when the restaurant opened at 1 p.m. It probably wouldn't be a problem getting a bar area or table if you show up 15 - 20 minute earlier. Otherwise it's a free for all. We would have preferred the bar side and less money ... however, we had a little one in a stroller so we didn't want to jockey for a spot. Had we known showing up a little early at the opening time was so easy, we'd have done that. The waiters are all older in the restaurant side and act pretentious ... as fine dining waiters do. They have little patience ... aren't very friendly ... and are very brusque. They act like they are you doing a favor by waiting on you. Also, be prepared to speak Spanish. The food here is good to average. It's expensive (on the fine dining side) I would imagine the food is the same quality ... just smaller portions on the bar side. We didn't try it. On the sit-down side, things get pricey and you have to order larger portions. We ordered: - Iberico Ham ... 20 Euros. They brought a big plate. There was no smaller order. It was very good. Not the best that we had but better than anything you'd get in the US. - Croquettes ... 12 Euro. Another big order size with no smaller available. These were the best Croquettes we had in Seville. Fried perfectly with a very loose and cheesy filling. Almost like a breadless grilled cheese sandwich. - Cuttle Fish ... 12 Euro. This was pretty bad. It was like eating giant strips of rubber with no taste. Way too chewy and hardly any batter. It was served with no nipping sauce and was like eating a basket of small tires. - Creamed Spinach ... I have never tasted anything like this. It was like eating spinach blended with cream with church insence mixed it. I'd imagine a basket of poppuri soaked in salt water would taste similar. It was not great, although very unique. For 8 Euro, a big pass. - Cheesecake ... Not great. Tasted like a square of sweet cheesecake with strawberry jelly on top. I can't imagine you couldn't find something similar in a supermarket for much cheaper than the 6 Euro price. Overall, the atmosphere was nice. It was immaculately clean inside and it didn't really look as ancient as you'd expect. It looked like a Spanish restaurant you'd expect. However the food was pretty average compared to other restaurants in Spain. We saw the table next to us both got steak and left it about 3/4 eaten, so it couldn't have been fantastic as they didn't look like the GLP1 type. This is one you must hit in Seville, just because it's so famous. It's on a cute street. However, don't expect it to be the best food you try in Seville and if you can do the tapas bar side, you'll probably have a better experience than in the formal dining room area.

There was a show going on when we arrived around 10:50, so the main entrance was closed off, but we went through the side entrance and ordered drinks at the bar. I got a small glass of the orange wine, since I heard that was the specialty in Sevilla and wanted to try it. It was a sweeter wine but had a slightly bitter after taste. There were already a lot of people there, so it was a bit hard for us to see the performance, but from what I could see, it was really good. When it finally ended around 11, the lights came on. My friend and I didn't want to wait around for the next performance, so we finished our drinks and left. They also have plenty of seating outdoors in the courtyard, so if you want to just grab a drink but not watch the show, you can always sit outside and chat.

Plus, there is a nice park where you can sit, even take your drink from the bar, while you are waiting. I would not let a line deter you. This is by far the worst restaurant I've been to while visiting Spain, and I've been to a lot in Barcelona, Madrid, and Seville. I ordered 3 tapas that took over 40 minutes to arrive. Meanwhile, I noticed many people who arrived after me and ordered the same dishes had already received theirs. I asked the waiter, and he kept telling me it was coming. But when I saw people who ordered the same thing receive it in less than 10 minutes, I asked him again. He flipped out, yelling at me in Spanish, saying if I wanted to talk to him, it needed to be in his language. He literally yelled across the entire restaurant. I was left feeling totally disrespected and frustrated. I just told him to cancel the rest of my order. I finished my meal, paid, and left. Horrible service and rude staff, do yourself a favor and avoid this place!

Where do I begin? Let's talk about the ambience. To call this place rustic would probably capture…read moreit best, it's really probably more like a cafeteria or a school room at a very old school. Tables perhaps a bit close together, not terribly comfortable. Loud, busy. As far as the service, it was our impression that our waiter was the only person serving the 30 or so tables in their dining room. Suffice it to say the service was not fast and not good. Inexplicably, every time we ordered a Coke we were asked if we wanted a Coke Zero. If I wanted a Coke Zero I would have said the words Coke Zero. Even when I asked for another Coke, he again asked "Coke Zero?" It took next to forever to get the check, and forever to get a cappuccino. At one point I took it upon myself to point the waiter to a table behind us that had been desperately attempting to get his attention. This was all not good. As to the food. First, our fault for not knowing what tataki meant. We did not expect to receive salmon that was seared on the outside and raw on the inside. So that one is on us, although we also think the meal came tepid at best. The lamb on couscous was dry and tough. The pork cheek stew was actually pretty good if a bit gluey. The calamari was good. The sushi as they called it was average. What they called the tiramisu was more like a pudding with some liqueur and chocolate on the top, and a little bit of breadish stuff in the bottom. Not my idea of tiramisu, and probably not yours either. So we could not get too excited about these various dishes. But what was particularly frustrating and bizarre was that two people sitting across from us ordered food that looked absolutely delicious. So we got to sit there wondering why we didn't order what they ordered. They ordered a large beef dish with potatoes which is on the menu, and we think they ordered a large octopus meal although we are not sure. Everything they had looked better than anything we had. So it may be that we somehow just picked the wrong items. So it was a strangely frustrating meal. This place has good reviews and we expected good tasting food. Unfortunately it did not work out that way, and the ambience and service were negative contributing factors. I can't entirely write this place off, only because the food other diners received actually looked very good. But I don't think I would go there again.

We devoured every bite and it was hard to pick a favorite. Both the lamb and pork dishes were 11/10. Not just the taste but the presentation of every tapa was fantastic. Their drinks were also great. The dessert was to die for. This place is super packed during peak dinner hours and there is barely any room to stand. Since we walked in around 11pm, we got a seat and were well taken care of all thru the night. Also noticed alot of veggie options on the menu which was great. Service was awesome ambience is chic. I am certain I am going to crave their tapas once I am back home. Highly highly recommend this place when in Seville.
