Went out to dinner at La Gondola. I haven't eaten there is quite awhile; however the food was delicious as I remember. Micky was our server and he did an excellent job and paid close attention to our needs. We started with calamari and it was very good, light and crispy. We had the Veal Marsala, Tortellini , and Manicotti. It is very dark inside the restaurant, making a challenge to read the menus. I hadn't been to this location in years, but while visiting family for the holidays we decided to stop by This local Italian restaurant offers many of the classic Italian delicacies you would find in any typical Italian restaurant. There are daily specials, a lunch menu (that has strict hours). I don't believe I saw pizza in the menu, but there are all sorts of pasta dishes, sandwiches, steaks, chicken dishes, seafood dishes, and other Italian entrees. The menu isn't too lengthy. In fact, I would say it's relatively small for most Italian restaurants. There is plenty of win, beer, and other drink options, as well as desserts The ambiance is fairy dark and intimate. We went on a Friday and there was live music, but the acoustics of the open layout made it challenging to hear the person next to you let alone the performer The service was fine. We were given the complimentary garlic bread, which was tasty and plentiful, but a little salty. Servers kept coming by to refill our water, but not our server. In fact, it took way longer than we expected to get our meal, which our server brought, and then we didn't see our server again for 30min or more to ask for a box. We weren't checked in on. The server was loud, and made jokes/small talk, but we didn't feel overly taken care of. Also, you are given the option of soup or salad with most all the entrees, and we were told there was only ranch and Italian dressings and then we overheard the server next to us tell another table there was honey mustard and other dressings. Also, someone at our table wanted French and onion soup and thought that's what they were getting, but the "onion soup" was a cream of onion soup. We couldn't inquire more about if this was a mixup because our server was no where to be found The food was fine. Again, certain portions were a little salty. The lasagna was a huge disappointment. I expect layers or noodles and there were none to be found. The noodles, if they were noodles, were the consistency of melted mozzarella. I wanted it on a plate and not wet and messy in a bowl Some tips: It would be amazing if there was an option to get the lunch menu later in the day, or "half" portion options Also, I am a huge bolognese fan, and that's the reason I got the lasagna, but I would like to see it as a typical bolognese pasta dishes, or at least have that option Someone at our table was trying to pay with a prepaid visa gift card, but our server said their system "wasn't with the times," and we had to use another payment method. I really wanted so much to love this place because some of my friends have told me it's fantastic. Unfortunately, I feel I didn't get the same experience that they have had. We got to the restaurant at 6:20 got seated immediately. A very nice waitress came over. We had water and garlic bread on the table within 5-6 minutes. I asked for a Pellegrino and she said I'm not sure we have that, but I'll check. I understood as she was new. My wife and I are very patient with new servers. So five minutes later she came back and plopped a bottle of Pellegrino on the table. Unopened no glass. When she came by again i said I need a bottle opener and a glass and she said, it's twist off which she found out when she tried to open it by hand that it was not. we placed our order which included a side salad..We got the side salad very promptly. The dressing was very good but just a bit too much of it. It then took 20 minutes for them to clear the salad plates when we were done. I still did not have my glass for my Pellegrino which I asked for a 3rd time. We did not get our main course until 7:45. Over an hour since we came in. My wife got the pasta Primavera. She liked it. She said the sauce was really good. I got the cappellini àlla pescatora. The sauce was very good unfortunately the calamari were like little rings of rubber. Completely Inedible. The shrimp was also overcooked. The Clams and muscles were cooked nicely. They did not give me aside bowl for my shells. The waitress noticed and said I'll be right back with a bowl. Like my pellegrino glass, i never got the bowl either. I will say that on the positive my wife's pasta and my pasta were perfectly al dente'. The waitress came back around 8:10 to ask how everything was. At that time I ordered a tiramisu and a cannoli "to go" and I also requested the check. At 8:30 she came back with our desserts, on plates. I reminded her that they're supposed to be to go. Without exaggeration we were there for 2 hours. There were a few positives so I'm really hoping that this was just a really bad evening. We may try it again. read more

We will not be going back. The last 3 times we went the service was horrible. Last night we waited 50 minutes for the food to arrive. 5-10 minutes to get each beer. Had to ask over and over to get bread. The last 2 times they changed for items we ordered but did not deliver. Last night it was $6.95 for dipping oil. Asked for to go Boxes after 10 minutes I got up and the waiter was just standing in the back and I had to get them myself when we did finally get the food, one of the dishes was cold. The garlic bread is excellent still but the veal was not very good. It's just gone really downhill. It's sad. read more

My lifelong bestie and I were spending time in Mansfield, TX, where she lives, and she asked me where I wanted to eat. I remembered that we had eaten the most delicious vodka sauce on pasta that I've ever had at La Gondola, so we revisited it. My memory served me well. We had a glass of delicious Pinot Noir at the bar while we waited for our food. The bartender served us some of their delicious bread that was mouth-watering. Food was decent. I enjoyed a spinach salad with 6 grilled shrimp added on. My wife had the Lasagna and she described it as not very good and the meat had an unusual taste. Service was very good. The reason for the 1 star is because the music was overwhelmingly loud. No way could you have a conversation over your meal because of the amplification of the music. Other (maybe regulars) seemed to embrace the loud music. Our expectation was to have some background music. Not so on this Thursday night. We won't return. read more

Second time here not happy with my second visit the first visit was very good. I will say the food was good both times . Service was not great a little slow the second time. I had to get up and get our own water refills. I saw another table do the same thing. The part that made me mad was the up charge for the soup we were not told it was extra $3. The menu says the soup came with the meal. When I asked her why the upcharge she says I forgot to tell you french onion soups extra. That irritated me. INDOORS 7/10 I am a huge first look/smell impression person. It was a pretty clean environment. I didn't really get the best smell when I walked in. The smell gradually got better as we were seated. The lights were dimmed, and there were candles on every table. WAITING TIME 10/10 It took us less than 2 minutes to be seated. The staff were very friendly and professional. ORDER Fettuccine Alfredo with Shrimp 10/10 It was the perfect serving size. The consistency was creamy and didn't leave a bad aftertaste. The shrimp was thick and seasoned perfectly. The pasta itself was cooked to perfection. Lasagna Bolognese 9/10 The seasoning was good. If anything it was a little too "basily". I wish it would have had more pasta. I had too much meat leftover. Overall, very TASTY. Calamari 7/10 Texture was good but the seasoning was a bit bland. I would had shredded mozzarella to it and a bit more salt. Cheesecake 10/10 DELICIOUS. Great spot for Italian food in Mansfield. Everything I've tried has been very tasty! I love the mushroom soup, ceasar salad, and cheese bread as starters. I'm normally not a big fan of mushrooms, but that soup is fantastic, and I always look for it when I come here. The lasagna is very good and the meat inside it is very flavorful. The chicken parm is a great option too. Definitely listen to the specials though. The lobster ravioli and the salmon topped with shrimp were both delicious! We were blessed to be served by Austin tonight. He was very professional and made some great recommendations. We had veal parm with side thin spaghetti and a house salad with ranch, cappuccino and canola. The marinara was traded out for the house meat sauce and it was perfection. The sauce is thick and meaty. No bitterness and no sweet. The true tomato flavor stood out. You can smell some beef base in it as well. The noodles were cooked al dente and the plate was hot and ready to go. The salad was standard, the vegetables were very fresh nothing brown and had a great crunch. Served very cold. The cappuccino was on point. Austin made some great recommendations for shrimp and some vegetables and salad options. They do not have a gluten-free menu, but he mentioned that some items in the kitchen could be serve served and did not directly contain gluten. Due to having celiac, I could not risk possible contamination. The kitchen is wide open for viewing, it appeared extremely clean. First & last visit here. To start off me, my husband & daughter walked in at 745, we were sat immediately, even with the hesitation that we did not have reservations. Waited over 10 minutes for server to come so we could order. Order was in by 8pm, at this point the restaurant was over half empty and all but the 2 tables sat after us had their food. A table of 6 was sat after us and had their food before ours. At 845 the server stopped by to say our food would be out shortly, to which I asked if they were making fresh pasta back there and he chuckled and said no. I then didn't see him again until our food came out. And then didn't see him again until we were done and asked if we wanted desert. On this Friday night it was very, actually extremely loud. There was a guy playing live music, I personally saw 3 different instruments. It would have been amazing if the volume was about half of what it was. My husband couldn't hear my 9 year old across the table. The croud was ALL older. Easily 55+. And so were all the other servers I saw except ours. For fettuccine chicken Alfredo it was over $23 bucks. The Alfredo sauce was veery liquidy. I had to completely turn over my entire bowl just to get sauce on each bite. Extremely minimal chicken, maybe 5 strips... for $4 !?! I hate to say it.. Olive garden is cheaper and tastes so much better! My husband got the zucchini soup and I nearly spit my half out.. there was o taste of any vegetable, but pure cream. I was actually to sweet to be a soup, creamy, absolutely, but flavorless. My daughter had the kids cheese ravioli... and it came with T H R E E ravioli. No sides, no desert, just 3 ravioli for $8 dollars ! I was speechless... she had to eat some of mine to get full. The nail in the coffin was when I was upcharged for 2 items and NOT told about it ahead of time when ordering. If there will be an additional charge of ANY amount, EVERY single business needs to let the customer know ahead of time, so they can decide if they would like to order something else. We have been to La Gondola twice now. The first time food and service were both 5 star and could have not asked for any better. The second time was another story though. The food was still top notch but the service was severely lacking. The thing that bugged me the most was a $3 up charge. We asked the server and she said that it was for the French Onion soup. (soup or salad are included with the meal according to the menu) At this point I was a little miffed and told her that she should have informed us about the charge. She said "I guess I forgot" so I said "well I guess I'll forget that part of the tip then". She just waked away. It was my birthday dinner and kind of brought down the mood. Since we live quite a ways away I'm not sure if we will be back or not. We were so excited to try La Gondola as we had heard nothing but good things, drinks were good, service was great but super slow as it took almost an hour to get our food. We were told people didn't show up for work. i ordered the chicken parmigiana w/ a side of pasta. as soon as the plate was sat down I knew we were in trouble. Plate was covered in water. sauce had no flavor, black chunks of cooked basil, chicken was so thin and batter was soggy. Husband had pasta with meatballs. super watery and meatballs were stuffed with garlic but no other flavor. Pasta was cooked good at al dente. Definitely recommend. Some things to consider: Pros: salad was good, pasta were GREAT (fettuccine Alfredo and lobster ravioli were incredible).
