Gym is not clean. Standing water in Sauna, Dust and dirt under machines they clean around equipment. Padding on some equipment worn out Pool has been closed for over 6 months. Old machines and most have weight numbers worn off . Treadmills have the original iPhone plug. Locker rooms are not cleaned frequently and inside the lockers seem like they are never cleaned. It's Clear that the company puts no money back into this club. Spoke to a manager there and he basically had no answers. A horrible gym in every respect--except for the staff. Equipment is constantly broken, often taking weeks to be repaired, if it gets repaired at all. Some machines are missing handles and cushions. Cable clips, which cost about $12, are broken and never replaced. There are very few cable accessories, and the rope attachment is literally frayed. And let's not even mention the pool, which has been closed since November and remains closed. Rumor has it the health department shut it down--which wouldn't be surprising. Lastly, I injured my back on a lat machine when the seat literally collapsed while I was lifting (and yes, I checked to make sure it was secured beforehand). I joined and never really went wasn't impressed with it. I went in November to cancel my membership they said all done then continued to keep charging my credit card. I had to block them on my card. They called me and I tried to explain that I canceled my membership in November and that they owe me money that they won't refund. The guy that called me that I was trying to explain it to hung up on me his name was Isiah I tried to call back because I thought we got disconnected hung up on me again I tried to call back and he kept picking up and hanging up on me. Extremely disappointed with the customer service at LA Fitness in Paramus, NJ. My daughter signed up for a monthly membership in January 2024, which we were explicitly told included a guest pass each time she visited. For months, she was able to bring a guest as promised. Then, out of nowhere, the staff started denying her guest access, claiming that her membership never included a guest pass. When we spoke to the manager, we were told that the person who originally sold us the membership had a history of making false promises to members regarding guest passes. We were assured this issue would be resolved, but nothing has been done. To make matters worse, today we were contacted and told that to "fix" this situation, we need to cancel the current membership, re-enroll in one that includes a guest pass, and pay additional fees for first and last month plus a membership registration fee! This is completely unacceptable. LA Fitness, you need to honor the original agreement and ensure your staff is properly trained to avoid misleading customers. Still the same as before. Was in there last week and it was so hot in there I couldn't go on the cardio equipment. Still the same issues with the dirtiness and broken machines as well. Emailed corporate and yet to hear back. Will be contacting the board of health as well. You'd think that after Covid, that they'd be on top of these issues. For awhile, they were, but as everything returned to 100% normal, it's back to the same old. Christian M is especially good for my personal training needs. He understands my fitness and trains accordingly. He's a good communicator and regularly offers advice in areas beyond the training we're engaging in. Great guy, solid professional. Generally, the club is outstanding and offers everything I need for getting in and staying in shape. I do wish it would, once and for all, repair the hot tub however. Been told it's the pump. Been out of commission for quite some time. If it is already fixed disregard this last thought. read more

Everything everyone else has said about poor cleanliness and overcrowding is accurate- but I'm mostly put off by the clientele's lack of gym etiquette and entitlement. Dumbbells are never put away, and are left literally laying all over the place. Same with the plates. North Jersey slobs are too good to put their stuff away? Besides that, there are just many machine hogs - you know, those a-holes that spread their stuff out and claim three at a time for their supersets - which consists of -Do-set-sit-and-text-for-a-while-move-to-another-repeat. The reception was terrible compare to the CNN (aka FNN) very clear channel...complained again, no response...well I watched it anyway even though you could make out much of the print...This morning I tried to watch Fox News (was channel #6 until yesterday morning)...guess who took channel #6...you guessed it FNN...I flipped through the channels...FNN appeared in two different channels & Fox News was no where to be found...coincidence? Something needs to be done so that this gym on Route 17 in Paramus can finally change. It takes them forever to fix anything. The basketball court always has its lights flickering, and if one day it doesn't work it will probably stay that way for several weeks. The lack of commitment that must be had to leave a gym where so many people go paying for a membership, and yet nothing is clean, tidy, or at least working. They have even started giving a good rating to the gym, giving a free month as a reward, nobody in their right mind should be doing that, but most of the ratings are 5 stars, it doesn't deserve them. read more

I have been going to LA fitness for years. The one in New York was great, but ever since moving to New Jersey, this LA fitness sucks. First, they do not keep the bathrooms clean. I went in today for a work out, and not one leg machine, or chest machine had a pin to set the weight. I was so annoyed that I went home because it almost none of the machines were available for use. Went in on a Friday dead night to use my 7 day free pass that my boyfriend and member gave me via email and was refused entry. I brought my ID as asked, but when I gave my phone number the sales guy claimed "my number was blocked." When asked what that means and why he said he did not know and there was nothing he could do. He would not let me speak to a manager or anyone else. He said the ONLY way would be to pay for a day pass or a membership and then suddenly my phone number wouldn't be blocked. Literally makes no sense. I walked out, went to Lodi LA Fitness where they happily took my free pass. The next day I joined as a member in Lodi, which is newer and nicer. In case management actually sees this post, just know that your salesman lost you a sale by being an a**hole. I know he could have let see the place because Lodi did and there's always free passes to see the gym. However, because he refused with no explanation and tried to push me into paying, I denied it. He assumed I wouldn't join and now, Paramus LA fitness went without the sale. For LA Fitness members, this gym is not even old and has been remodeled, but they still look gross! My biggest problem with the gym is the fact that children swimming classes happen everyday and moms bring their children (both boys and girls) into the adult women locker rooms to change. Any adult who goes to the gym knows that there's always particular people who walk around nude. Or those people who really take their sweet time going from naked to dressed. And they should be allowed to do this, as it's a gym for adults and that's an expectation for any locker room. However, there are always little staring children from the swim classes, and I feel it's really really inappropriate that their mothers use the women's locker rooms for changing. A family-friendly locker room should be in place, though that's never going to happen and there's not even a space for it. But I always feel really uncomfortable when little kids, even like 3 and 4 year Olds are in the adult locker rooms. read more

The staff is generally really pleasant and for the most part most of the machines are clean. The weights are a kind of all over the place which is typical of every gym. My concern is the overall cleanliness of the facility. In the women's locker room someone left a used sanitary napkin on the bathroom floor, and there's also hair in and all around the sink. In the lobby area someone just emptied their trash on the floor, and it's just been sitting there. I'm not one of those picky OCD rude assholes who nit-pick every little thing, I just want to work out and or shower in a clean facility. Probably one of the nastier gyms I've ever been in - though the staff is very kind and respectful, the place is completely disgusting. The gym smells bad, weights are tossed all over the place, and nobody reracks their weights. Equipment is often thrown around and left scattered, weights unracked and many of the equipment broken and left unreplaced. The basketball court is really hot during the summer, ventilation is poor and the staff doesn't allow the door to be left open. Not a bad gym by any stretch but if you're someone that is upset with mess and doesn't like bad smell or massive crowds, this probably isn't the gym for you. It definitely wasn't for me. w read more

UPDATE: Now that COVID is slowly waning in the NJ area, I have to say I'm still impressed. No gym is perfect... no, not even Equinox (you're still paying $160+, right?) To me, what makes a gym hit all the right check marks is equipment, cleanliness, and crowds. This is the dirties place on earth. Flies in the showers, people drying their filthy workout gear in the sauna. Feces covered toilet brushes left in the stall. It is understaffed. Vending machines are consistently empty and have garbage to choose from. Someone stole my watch. It has a pool and a sauna. But the way it's run leaves me to think better to not use either. So I was a member for a while and I ended up having to cancel it because it was too costly. I called them to try but they said I had to come in person. So I went in person and spoke with someone at the front desk and he said that I should no longer get billed. At least 5 months later, I am still getting billed. Honestly, I don't know if it's the fact that I'm young that they thought they can keep billing us. But I went through the trouble for nothing. I called months later because my grandma told me it was still coming up on her bill and I called them and they told me to call this other number. As other reviewers have pointed out - this is the most filthy and unhygienic gym I've ever seen. Blink in Paramus (half the cost) is twice as clean as this. Not impressed for an LA fitness. I get a 5 day pass online just to try it out to see if I liked the atmosphere. Upon arrival, they tried to sell me a gym membership before I could get a feel for the gym. It was honestly annoying but I understand these are sales people trying to get commission. The gentleman asked if I was experienced to which I told him I was and continued to explain all the machines to me as if I didn't just tell him I was experienced. What I thought was hilarious was when he told me why they charge an anulare fee. It's to upkeep the gym and make sure they have the most io to date equipment. HA! Half the machine didn't work as expected, and machine all over the gym we're out of commission or even missing the weight there where someone just took a bright marker and drew it on. Please do not sign Up for personal trainer at LA Fitness! They rip off your money for what they do not provide you at all! On the evaluation date they showed me very impressive workouts and told me they will provide me with: 1) Personal trainer that keeps the track records of my progress and help me with personalized program; change the program as I progress. 2) a book completed with workout that guides me to work out by myself through my next schedule with the trainer. 3) Provide me with nutrition guide. 4) to bring my son to the session with me to work out together (with the trainer). They made me sign a contract on computer screen and did not provide me with a copy. After few sessions, I observed none of the above is provided except random workout class. I asked if I could cancel, but they again promised to improve. Then nothing improved, I asked again to at least change my contract to six months, while the facility (in Paramus, NJ) was willing to cancel after the 7th month, the HQ customer service manager told me that I only must either pay 50% of the remaining months as a penalty or keep the contract, he said he does not care about what they promised, he added they will report me as defaulted customer otherwise. Note: you can find such random workout training for less than half price of what they charge, or you can just pick workout from internet for free and do it yourself. Took 3 separate visits and hours in total just to cancel my membership. Signed up for $35 a month and found out they started charging me $48 for no reason. Pay a $60 service fee twice a year for "maintenance" but when I walk in to cancel I see a sign out sheet for the pins on every machine with stacked weights. All the pins are broken and you have to sign out one of the two at the desk just to use the machines. This location is by far the worst out of all north Jersey locations I've been to and would absolutely not sign up for a membership here. read more

Do I recommend Paramus LA Fitness? - No. (based on 9 years of gym lifestyle) Coming from Retro fitness and other gyms i always had an organized and great gym experience. I needed to switch due to need of a basketball court. Thinking LA would be a great choice, i committed. A week later i realized every wrong thing about LA. 1. Terrible organization! You will literally have to walk around the gym to find weights or accessories. Nothing is ever in its designated spots. 2. WiFi has not worked for over a month. You will be surprised how useful WiFi is when you don't get data in the back of the gym. 3. Customer service! Everyone is so angry. Excluding three guys. It's upsetting to come from a great gym and pay more for a worse gym. A part of me regrets this change and i will probably be going to LA in Clifton. read more

Frat bro looking guy at the front is ridiculously rude and was the reason why I didn't join. Looking to shop around for a new gym and deciding after using some free trials. After my workout he told me I had to decide that second, to which I said can't I decide after the 5 day trial? Isn't that how it works?! He said I would be losing money by not joining that very second blah blah I was very shocked at how awful he is at business. The one in West Orange has much nicer facilities and the people are very nice.
