Nice meal in Ely. Friendly service and above-average Mexican food. We had the chalupa plate (with chicken) and a Chile Colorado burrito. Excellent rice and refried beans with a distinct (and delicious) red chili flavor. The strawberry margarita was large but not all that awesome. Excellent salsa and a unique and yummy cabbage salad with chips. Very friendly waitress and bus-person who were both attentive and engaged even on a reasonably busy Saturday evening. If you have a small to normal appetite, think about ordering a la carte - the portions are large and with an entree with beans and rice, you'll either be uncomfortably full or have leftovers. I would definitely eat there again. It's nothing spectacular, but it's good, well-executed Mexican food and good service. read more

Usually have great service and prices but tonight was horrible. We had a 20 minutes to get our drinks that we had to ask another waitress to get and another 20-30 minutes for our food to even be ordered. Not to mention it was pretty much empty/void of customers. Not gonna lie I'm disappointed as we are regulars of this establishment and eat here weekly but after looking over our bill and being charged $9.99 for a CHEESE QUESADILLA and evening mentioning that seemed a little over priced and she just ran my card regardless I think I'll take my business elsewhere. Friendly wait staff. Wait to be seated, not busy yet so seated quickly. Chips and two kinds of salsa were fresh and delivered to the right after the menus. Ordered enchilada plates and beer. Flour tortilla enchiladas, very soft beans, the rice was okay. Filled our stomachs. Add the salsa.to give a little kick. Price was reasonable. read more

Good food but one of the worst managed restaurants I have ever come across. We frequently order the same item for take-out but the price never seems consistent. A side order of flautas comes with 4 pieces. The other night I got home with my order and there was one piece in the container. I called and asked to speak to the manager... sorry, no manager on duty, seems to be a common response. They prepared additional flautas for me but that required I make another trip to the restaurant. When I got there they still disputed the amount of food. One problem is they never seem to be able to keep their workers and when they do get a new person they receive very little training. read more

The food is highly passable which is surprising in a town as small as dear Ely. I've driven through Ely a couple of times and was surprised to discover that not only is everyone in the whole town super friendly, you can find excellent food. Probably my last time here. The meal was ok but our soft drinks tasted like mold. Our server brought new drinks after she said the machine was out of syrup but they still tasted funny. Been going here for a few years and it's just been slowly going down hill. The server who checked us out at the register didn't say one word to us, not a, "How was your meal?", "Hello", or even a "Thank you". She just took our money, gave us change and a half grin. This place saved our night when we were in Ely visiting Great Basin National Park. The customer service at the pizza place down the street was so bad (Hometown Pizza) that we left. However, we didn't have a whole lot of options as it was getting late in a small town. Saw this place was still open and people inside. What a pleasant surprise! Great food, good prices, and the nicest staff. Being from California we have some pretty good Mexican food, this place was right on par with what we have in California. Every time I come to Ely I stop into this restaurant. We have always gotten fast and attentive service. On my most recent trip to Ely we ended up eating here 3 times over 5 days. I think it is one of the best restaurants in Ely. They have a very wide array of authentic Mexican to chose from and I never had any problem finding something new. Some may think the decor is a little off, but I really don't care. I'm there to look at my plate. The salsa and chips are really good and are brought to the table as soon as you sit down. Slow down, stop in and enjoy some of the best food in Ely with a ice cold Negra Modelo. read more

We were returing home from Santa Fe - the originators of what is known as Mexican food (developed by Pueblo Indians, adopted by Spanish, exported to Mexico, proliferated throughout Mexico and Mid & South America, then reimported into what is now the Southwest U.S). A very nice but dark interrior. We started with the prawn appetizer. It is truely outstanding. Excellent seasoning. I am not a big mushroom eater but those on the plate are seasoned perfectly. I work all over the country and I have been very surprised at how well seasoned the food is. I really like the cabbage plate that came with the chips. Not fond of the salsa. Tastes like watery tomatoes. I had the beef fajitas. I love the sweet chile molea on the beef. My wife ordered the shredded beef burrito. Unfortunately even though the beef was super tender it had no seasoning at all. Almost as thought there are two differant chefs. One who seasons perfectly and the other scared to do so. It might be hit and miss but I would suggest trying this place. Once again love the prwns and mushrooms. A must try. True prawns not shrimp. read more

Worst Mexican food I've ever had. This is literally the most bland-tasting Mexican food I've ever had - and I've lived in western Washington state since the 90s. We were ecstatic when taco trucks arrived in our town around 2004. I've also lived in California, so I know what good Mexican food tastes like. This was the worst. I ordered a cheese enchilada and beef chimichanga. My partner ordered two cheese enchiladas. I dumped salsa all over mine in an attempt to add flavor, but the salsa itself was bland. I actually put table salt on my food, which I have never even considered at a Mexican restaurant before now. I was desperate for something that would turn this $10 dish into something edible. The only good thing about La Fiesta was the free cabbage dish they give you with your chips. If civilization as we know it collapses, and somehow this is the only place left to eat, just order a drink and eat that. In short, you'd be better off buying some mass-produced frozen burritos at the local grocery store and microwaving them. And it would be cheaper, too. read more

We had the worst service I have ever experienced at La Fiesta on Sunday August 3rd. The restaraunt was not busy and we had a party of about 12 people. One member accidentially spilled her water and we asked for some rags. The waitress took forever so we finally went up to the counter and asked someone else for some rags as the water continued to run all over the place. When our waitress finally came back out she was very snooty and told us it took so long because she was too busy. We also had to ask 2-3 times for any refills. The meat was tough and not very good. It was much better when we ate there a year ago. I highly doubt I will go back next year for my annual trip home to White Pine County. read more

A great find. Authentic mexican food. Everyone in our party of four had a great meal. The ambiance needs a little work and they were short staffed but the folks working were good and really hustled. The chips and salsa was amazing. We ended up with a bill around $100 before tip...there were 4 of us and we each had a margarita and full dinner. we stopped in for lunch, the place was nearly empty. We ordered cheese quesadillas and nachos. If you take two peices of cardboard and melt in flavorless cheese your quesadilla will be better. I come from L.A. and know real Mexican food. This was poor even for gringos. The nachos were not crisp but soft and soggy and looked like an old batch left over and reheated in microwave. I always order the same dish, on a recommendation from a friend: spicy octopus, pulpo ala diabla, or something to that effect. The spicier the better for me and this dish is pretty decent on the heat scale. Chips and salsa are no charge with to-go orders though be sure the staff includes your salsa before you walk out the door. Sometimes I request one cup of cabbage salsa and one cup of hot salsa, sometimes I request two cups of hot salsa. The staff is good about accommodating my preference. Food is usually ready in a matter of minutes, I'd say about 15. Sometimes the restaurant is out of pulpo (it happens). Be warned: Portion sizes vary drastically from one week to the next! With one recent to-go order I barely had enough of the main dish for one meal, definitely not worth $17.00! At other times I've been given enough food for three meals! This is my only complaint. read more

The other top-rated Mexi restaurant, Margueritas, is in a casino and you have to walk through the smoke to get there. La Fiesta has a lounge in the back but no smells while we were there. OK you suburbanites; think about where you are... I had a spectacular meal for a very reasonable price. The rib eye steak with mushrooms, refried beans, and rice was UNBELIEVABLE! The steak was, of course, the star. It was huge ( I am guessing 12 ounce), grilled medium rare to perfection, spiced and smoked perfectly, tender, and as lean as a connoisseur could ask. While trying to maintain my youthful physique, I ate half, and boxed the other half for wrapps for my bride and I the following day. All for less than $25. OK, the ambiance wasn't, the service requires some training, but those demerits do not negate the great value. Next time we are in Ely (perfect one-day drive from Phoenix, weather permitting) we will be there! read more

The beef tacos I had tasted worse than Taco Bell and the margaritas were nasty...tasted like crap tequila mixed with gasoline...had to let the ice melt to dilute the bad taste........I wont be back!!! Passing through Ely and came across this gem of a restaurant. Seated promptly and received chips with salsa and cabbage dip. Salsa was very good and chips were fresh. I ordered the Carnitas de Pollo.......yum. Very pleased with my choice, lots of chicken, peppers and onions with an amazing seasoning. Also came with beans, rice, tortillas and guacamole. Our server was delightful and made great recommendations, drinks were topped off without asking. If ever this way again, will definitely stop here. Delicious! read more

They serve a good cabbage dip for the chips plus salsa. It is basic tex-mex food. It is a little dark on the inside, with tons of pictures of people wearing sombreros, and lacking ambiance. read more
