Linguini with tiny clams in tomato sauce. Too salty!
    Mark M.

Been there many times, but this time was disappointing. The Good: 1. Bread was delicious. I can eat a second helping. 11/10 2. Grilled fish Orata $37 was crispy. 8/10 The So So... The Vegetable soup $8. Large bowl but not much taste. I prefer Campbell's vegetables soup. 5/10 The Not so good... 1. Water glass on my table was cracked. 0/10 2. Liguini Clams in Tomato sauce was way too salty. I like salty food, but if I say its too salty. It is TOO SALTY! TINY clams. Very small portion. $21 4/10 3. Asked for some Tobasco sauce and Waiter gave me a very Old bottle with only a few drops left. No Kidding. See attached photo! 0/10 4. Very slow service. Asked for some paper napkins and it never came. Had to ask Waiter twice before he gave me the bill. 0/10 Total cost: $74.58 before tips. I gave 18% tips anyway.

Came here Saturday night and booked a reservation surprisingly there was many spots available. I was recommended it by my brother who told me his boss always takes him here and it's one of his faves and he's a Italian himself. We were promptly greeted and seated even though we were 30mins early from our reservation! For starters we got the shrimp and grilled squid, this dish was really good. For mains we got the fettuccine salmon and bolognese fettuccine. Both these dishes were also very good but me and my bf agrees that the salmon one was better because we both love cream sauce, but also there it was more tasty. Last but not least, we ordered tiramisu for our dessert and it was delicious! Overall, had a wonderful experience, service was also very good and prompt. As soon as they see an empty dish, they will take it away! Had a little bit of a hiccup as a server didn't know how to use a gift card and know if they "accept" them and had to ask her manager if they accept gift card... even tho it was their own business' "la fenice" gift card which my bro gave to me as a gift, which I thought was weird and turned off by.

Came for Winterlicious on a Friday evening. It was my first time ever trying Winterlicious so I got to be the judge without having anything to compare it to. Upon walking in for a 6:15 reso, it was very quiet and the ambiance dim. I was greeted right away where they took my jacket and seated me at my table. I'm used to eating at very casual restaurants so I was a bit taken aback by the classy vibe of the restaurant.. it was nice though. I chose this place after extensive research mainly because the reviews looked promising and their menu seemed to have a good variety. Food was decent but I unfortunately made the wrong decisions. For app, I got the melon prosciutto while my friend got the bouillabaisse (seafood dish). Prosciutto is always yummy but the bouillabaisse was definitely way more worth it as there was so much more to it. For main, I ordered the duck pappardelle. I was pretty disappointed with the dish, as it got very redundant after a while- mainly just heavy pasta and the duck was meh. For dessert, we ordered the Sicilian bacio tartufo. It was good- not too sweet, but nothing really out of the ordinary. The service was ok. It started off good but then got very slow as more people arrived. There is a pretty good server to guest ratio so I'm not sure why that was. Our server also asked first thing whether we had a show to catch, and I regret saying no after. We seem to have gotten paid a lot less attention to than the people beside us who had a show to catch... our food came a lot slower and our water glasses were empty for a decent portion of our night. We weren't in a rush but after a while we felt a bit put off to the side. At the end, our server brought one bill, in which I asked if he could instead split our bills. He seemed to give me a snarky "as you wish" response and half an eyeroll as he walked away. Didn't appreciate the snooty vibe to end off, though I give him credit for being pleasant during all other interactions with us. Overall, I had a decent experience here. I like how the restaurant is smaller and ambiance is dim so you get a more intimate dining experience. I just wish I had made some different decisions with my food order, and that the service was a bit better.

My only complaint is the smallish portion of their squid in a spicy tomato sauce. Everything else, pretty much how things were back when I loved the place in the 1990's. Now, I just like the place because the change of times brought changes in ownership and the kitchen staff. Nonetheless, still very respectable and worth going / returning.

Came here for an early dinner during a trip to Toronto. We made a reservation for 5p, right at opening time, so we could make it to our walking tour on time. So glad we tried this restaurant! We were sat right away, the server was super attentive. We received complimentary bread (the good, crusty kind!) with butter and bruschetta! We tried three different entries and all were delicious! My favorite was the agnolotti hands down! The sauce was creamy and flavorful and the pasta was cooked perfectly! The chicken Milanese was pretty good. The chicken was a little over cooked and tough but the sauce was tasty. The veggies were perfectly cooked, a little Al dente, just like I like. The fettuccine bolognese was delicious too. I am not a fan of veal but I honestly wouldn't even know it wasn't beef. The sauce was super flavorful and the fettuccine was cooked perfectly. Really loved the setting too. The design is muted but elegant. I would definitely give this a try if you're in the area and want a nice meal out.

Went here for summerlicious 2022. They served us complimentary amuse bouche. We also got: - PEI mussels - amazing - linguine and meatballs - pasta sauce was more on the sour side. Meatballs were very dry. - chicken milanese - lackluster - baclo tartufo - they ran out of ther raspberry option. But this was good. Very reminiscent of Hagan daaz - sparkling water was $10 here!

Very stylish atmosphere, great service, yummy food. I had mushroom flatbread. I was happy about the amount of mushroom, it was very delicious as well. It is good for lunch time if you want to have a light lunch, which was perfect for me. The service was very professional. Very elegant atmosphere and ambiance.

If you love pasta, then La Fenice is where you want to be. It is a casual business casual dinner setting (you can dress up if you want to though). I had to get their Linguini Shrimp and Calamari with white wine sauce. This pasta was cooked to perfection - Al dente pasta with the right amount of sauce. I really enjoyed their shrimps and squid as well . We also ordered a bottle of red wine - a full bodied merlot to pair with our pasta . What a delicious dinner!

Came here for the Winterlicous menu with the team but wasn't feeling it so I went rogue and ordered off their regular menu. Went for the fettuccine with pork rib ragu with porcini mushroom. Not a single mushroom was found in this dish however the dish came with a mountain of pork and was quite delicious. I was kinda disappointed on the no mushroom but that's okay I was very satisfied at the end of that meal. And I also went for the bruschetta for the appetizer which was fresh and light.

Easy to book online. Upon arrival greeted by Greg. Friendly staff and great service as they were very quick to anticipate your needs. Our server Paul has a great personality and made brilliant recommendations from the menu. This was the first time at this restaurant. Decore has been updated and is modern. Food quality was above average and they shine in seafood and pasta dishes. The red house wine is great also! 5*/5

We went there earlier tonight for a staff Christmas party and it was my first time there. The ambiance was nice- even though google review had this as a $$$, found the prices fairly reasonable for a Christmas party. The food was great! Had the veal fish and it was a great size dish, well cooked, the veal melted in your mouth. Had a salad for starter and then the Tartuffo for desert. Everything was absolutely delish. The only reason this review is missing the 5th star was the server we had - she came back to take our order 3 times. We were a table of 6 people and she asked us for our order 3 times. The rest of the staff was great and their service was top!

Our final night in Toronto and we were a fatigued group. By the time we coalesced for dinner, the team was more looking forward to crashing than eating. Trying to find something nearby that would meet our diverse food preferences, we decided to walk over to Earls, which was just a few blocks from the hotel. Bad idea. Immediately upon reaching the restaurant I sensed there was going to be a problem and sure enough, checking in with the hostess delivered the mind boggling news of a 2.5 hour wait. Seriously? There's about a million (literally!) restaurants in Toronto. Why was everyone at Earls? More importantly, why were we? So, out came the Yelp app and we quickly identified King Street within the Entertainment District as our next destination. This is a fabulous area in downtown Toronto that features one non-chain restaurant after another. During the warm weather every restaurant offers outside dining on the sidewalks and in some cases on the roof. We wandered up and down the core blocks, comparing menus to Yelp reviews and ultimately settled on La Fenice. What a choice! Walking into the restaurant we immediately felt the March Toronto chill melt away. The restaurant is quaint, elegant and authentic. We were seated at a large round table at the front as our server unfolded our napkins and placed them in our laps. Classy! As we pursued the menu, the server introduced us to the fresh fish options of the night by bringing out a platter chock full of raw fish (http://bit.ly/102QyJc). Hilariously, he chose to display the fish immediately in front of the person at the table who has a healthy aversion to seafood. We were all cracking up! We ordered a bottle of Leonardo Chianti ($33.00) and some appetizers including Funghi di bosco al sapore d'erbe (Fresh wild mushrooms sautéed with fresh herbs http://bit.ly/102PHbs) ($13.00). They were delicious, especially if you love exotic mushrooms. The meal was paced perfectly and we were all relaxed and content by the time we placed our dinner order. I ordered the Costolette d'agnello ai ferri (Grilled rack of lamb with fresh mint wine sauce) ($33.00) as did two of my companions. Another co-worker ordered the Pappardelle con ragu di vitello e funghi porcini (Veal ragu with porcini mushrooms) ($22.00) and the final companion, the Nodino di vitello ai ferri (Grilled extra thick, double-cut veal chop seasoned with herbs)($34.00). (BTW, all prices in CAD.) The lamb was perfectly prepared. As they say, a picture is worth a thousand words, so here's the before and after: http://bit.ly/102PB3x. I'd say that's a pretty good testament to a thoroughly enjoyed meal. Thank goodness I wasn't looking to impress any of my companions, because it would have been a damn shame to have not been able to pick up those lamb ribs and peel every last morsel off the bone. We were all so stuffed that we decided to skip dessert. On the way out we marveled at how we would still be waiting to be seated had we chosen to put our names in at Earls. Beyond that there's absolutely no way we would have had as tremendous of a meal. This was serendipity at its best! The bill for the evening, including tip came to CAD $320, pretty darn close to what we spent a few nights earlier at The Keg (see my review: http://bit.ly/102PTaq). And, while we enjoyed that meal, it doesn't really come anywhere close to the meal we had at La Fenice. The take away, at least for me, is that no matter how formulaic and dependable restaurants like The Keg may be, seeking a more intimate experience is well worth the effort. It's just an entirely different level our outstanding.

Winterlicious Review **** This was my one and only Winterlicious booking in 2015, and the only reason for it is that my friends were meeting up as a group for dinner already, so we thought we'd try a Winterlicious menu. I'm always hesitant with Winter/Summerlicous because I know the service can be severely misrepresented...but I thought I'd give it a shot. Con: The table. The actual table. The entire side on my end was that flap of the table, and it led to a knife and spoon to slide off, and us unable to put any sort of weight on the side. Kinda odd. Con: We were a group of 7 (diners, not artists). My bf couldn't make the 6:30 reservation because work got busy, so I asked the server to remove one of the place settings, since we were 1 person down. But when everyone else arrived, I realized one of us had called ahead already to make the change in numbers, so asked for it back, and was met with some attitude. Con: We weren't given a wine menu, so we had to specifically ask for it. The server also said "I assume it's wine by the glass?" well, no....We're ordering by the bottle, but thanks for that assumption! We had to pick the wine 3 times, because the first two were unavailable. Tsk tsk. Con: When ordering, everyone thought the first dessert listed was the best sounding one, but the server informed us that it was already sold out. It was 7pm only, at that point. I thought that was pretty poor preparation on their part. To their credit, they did come back with a substitute option, but it was a far cry from what was on the menu. Pro/Pro/Con: I ordered the BRESAOLA, which was Smoked Cured Beef with Arugula & Grana-Padano Cheese for starter - nice presentation, good flavours. For entree, I had Papperadelle Con Anatra, Wide Egg Noodles with Duck Confit. Another delicious dish! Presentation was just ok, but definitely well done. Dessert was the biscotti, which was the poorest presentation of dessert I've ever seen. Literally 3 biscotti sitting on a plate. ALSO, my friends who ordered the striploin were not given an option for doneness - medium well for all! To their credit, the service improved throughout the meal - perhaps our server got a bit of a talking to? She was a lot more pleasant and helpful later on, and was perfectly nice while helping our group take a picture. Overall - the service in the beginning left a bit of a sour note. It's the Winterlicious service, I'm telling ya! The food itself was actually a 3.5/4 rating, except for the dessert. I really don't think the service is representative of the normal dinner service, but unfortunately, that's the experience I had.

There is an upstairs balcony seating but I've never sat there. During warm weather, there is plenty of roadside outdoor seating too. Jumbo Shrimp sautéed in garlic, white wine, tomatoes, scallions, and finished off with a shot of perno liquor. 2. Rack of Lamb (daily special $59.95). Four pieces of lamb in a rack, with a rich portion wine reduced sauce, that has a touch of mint to it, and Penne Pasta in a tomato rose sauce. The table bread was really good. The crust was crispy but the inside was fluffy. The soft butter that came it was so tasty. The bread was perfect for dipping in the sauce that came with the shrimp. We asked for a second basket of bread and they put two loafs in the second basket. It was too much so they were willing to let us take it home. The shrimps were definitely jumbo. It was so filling. Two pieces (per person) were good enough as an appetizer. The shrimps were perfectly cooked. We requested the lamb be cooked medium rare. It was definitely medium rare. It was juicy and did not have a gamey taste. It tastes great. The pasta was perfectly al dente. The tomato rose sauce was really good. They offered to grind parmesan cheese and pepper so we got both. This is a wine bar - the house lager was bad (maybe my own bad decision) and the red I got was fine ... nothing to write home about. The artichokes were mediocre (loved the sauce they came with). Worst of all was the "Ontario peaches" with the burrata were totally canned peaches - could've even been dole brand! This place has amazing potential with the location and vibe - but the food just was not it. Small portions and the price didn't match what was served. The service was friendly but nothing too crazy. Our server was great at helping us pick our wine, he mentioned that their wines are all on the dry side which is perfect for me, I'm not one for sweet wines. We also had two of their small plates the mussels and the burrata. The mussels tasted great with the sauce, a little garlicky which I prefer. The combination of the peach and mint went really well with the burrata. Light and easy to eat. The patio at night is one of the highlights. The only small complaint was it did take a while to get our wine after we ordered it and a little while to get our check. Otherwise cute spot.

Lots of decent beers on draft and they leave water bottle to refill your water cups, which I love. Service is bit slow. Had to sit at the bar since it was crowded at 6:30pm and still had to wait 30 mins. I normally don't eat at the bar, since bartenders are slower and busier with drink orders, but I was starving. Bartender only checked on us once, when food came out. Hard to get their attention too. Food, however, was amazing! Love the savory giant meatball and the rich San Marzano tomato-based marinara sauce, with dab of pesto and plenty of fresh basil. Loved the sauce was not too acidic and pasta cooked perfectly, not al dente. The focaccia bread comes with this rosemary garlic butter, and it was absolutely delicious on focaccia. For the main dish we could choose from gnocchi, salad with salmon or another dish which I can't recall right now. Dessert was ice cream which I also couldn't eat. The gnocchi was very mediocre. I didn't enjoy it at all. I hadn't been here in years but I see their food quality hasn't gotten any better. I was starving by the time the main dish came out so I ate about a quarter of the dish. Then I took the rest of the gnocchi home. Service: The waitstaff were really nice but the service was not very organized. There was a lot of appetizers but I couldn't eat most of it. Which is strange because I gave my food allergies several days in advance of the meal. It took some time to get the main dish as well so the pacing didn't seem great. I looked around at the other tables & we got our main dishes last. I'm not sure if the kitchen was at fault or what. Ambiance: It's quite dark here even on the lunch hour. The decor is dark wood tones, red upholstered banquette seating & wooden tables & chairs. It's not a fancy place. I would not choose to eat here again. Last time I went was several years ago. Sadly I see they haven't gotten any better. There are other better Italian restaurants in this area.
