Came here for dinner while visiting Nice. First off - this is not really an ~authentic~ Italian restaurant. The restaurant opens at 7pm for dinner and there was a line formed when we arrived around 7:20, very interesting experience for Europe. Living in the US, this restaurant reminds me of a lot of new restaurant group restaurants that just kind of have a system in place. Again, not a bad thing, but not your place if you are looking for something that feels like classic Italy. The portions here are huge, which they are known for. Note that the menu states each person must order an entree, which seems to discourage sharing (since they literally bring you an entire pan). I got the seafood pasta with shrimp and clams in a fresh tomato sauce and my friend got the lasagna. Both were really good dishes and huge portions. We both had a full meal of leftovers for the next day. Not anything I can't get at a good Italian restaurant in the US, but good food. The espresso martini was a good one though!! My family and I got a variety of dishes, and the portion was definitely large as all the reviews pointed out. We thought we would share, but there is a one dish per person requirement. The flat focaccia bread and cured ham was unexpectedly large and good. The steak could have been juicer and tender. What was memorable was the service. Shut the front and back door!!!! This place is amazing. I've never ever had pizza this delicious in my life and trust me I've had my share of amazing pizza. The pie was the size of two plates and the cheese tasted so fresh and smooth. You didn't have to chew it just melted in your mouth. The basil was so good with a slight bite to it. Then the waiter said, "what's for dessert?" Are you kidding me I couldn't even finish my pizza but I thought to my self dessert in Nice, France, let's do it. Such a beautiful restaurant! If you want to go somewhere that combines Italy with France's romantic vibe, this is the place. The Italian food is excellent. Noodles were Al dente and there was so much flavor with each bite. The servers were very attentive and they are quite generous with their portions. Two people can certainly share each dish. On what is a very touristy strip, La Favola is definitely a standout. We were staying just down the street and really wanted something without an English menu but also had young kids in tow so decided on La Favola after reading a few reviews and seeing some pictures online. None did it justice. Be prepared for a small wait for a table and a slow start to your service. Every restaurant on Place Charles Felix is slammed at night and it will take a few minutes for things to get going. Once our waiter came by it was game on and he couldn't have been more attentive and caring about our experience. We knew it was busy and ordered everything right away. I started with an a Aperol Spritz expecting a champagne flute and instead got a chalice of amazingness (for €10 I should add). We also got a bottle of very good cotes-de-Rhône (€26 I think?). We were brought amazing olive bread and both spicy and regular olive oils as well as a small plate with a bowl of marinated olives and focaccia to start, all on the house. Our girls split a Margherita pizza which we had several bites of and was also very good (and our waiter brought it as soon as it was ready while our entrees took a bit longer - smart!). I had the tuna which was cooked perfectly and a fantastic recommendation from our waiter. My wife had the linguini with clams and coming from an Italian family was given high accolades (I ate a lot of it and the broth was light but with a depth of flavor - perfect)! We didn't have dessert as our kids needed a sugar break but I do believe this is a gem among the many very touristy spots in Nice. This was a great place! The pizza dough was just right (chewy yet crispy which is my personal favorite). They went a little light on the toppings for the pizza calabrese but the ingredients were so fresh and good. They also had table side homemade bread which always makes a restaurant 10 times better. Our meal at La Favola was one of my favorites that we had while in France. Their food is an homage to Nice's Italian heritage, so you can expect absolutely enormous portions of fabulous fresh pasta, seafood, and pizza. Our host, a local, recommended the restaurant as one of the best places to eat in Old Town, and he was right. We arrived around 19:30 for an early dinner and the line to be seated was already growing around the block. It was a perfect night to dine outside and we were willing to wait for a table in the square. Our server was wonderful, so charming and was able to recommend the perfect bottle of wine. The food was served very quickly considering how busy they were and it was delicious. We each ordered a different pasta and sampled each others' dishes. My linguine with clams was perfect, so buttery and surprisingly light. My friends similarly raved about their meals, and we were amazed that we finished nearly everything. The pizza here is really good, but our server was quite odd. Apparently you aren't allowed to share food here, so if you want a pizza, they will take your appetizer plates away so you can't share with the other person. They did not do this with the couple sitting next to us who ordered pasta plates. We ordered a salad as well, figuring it was about a rule regarding ordering more than one entre for two people. But, rather than checking in on us and asking if we enjoyed the food, he scowled at me as he saw me eating from the pizza and when we he saw my brother having some of the salad. Some of the better food we had in France. Easily our best restaurant experience. Good service , nice wine recommendations. It's pricey but you get a lot of bang for your buck. It left us satisfied. This place usually has a line we actually saw it the night before we went and wanted to come back because we were curious and the food looked good. This looks like a regular tourist restaurant but the food tasted local and a lot of locals dine here. I would absolutely go back and if you find yourself in the area I recommend the seafood pasta and the Sicilian pizza. The vodka sorbet dessert was the best "drink" we had in France. read more

Some of the best Italian food I've ever had. I went in a group of five and we decided to split three pasta dishes. The serving sizes were huge and three plates were more than enough for the five of us to split. The truffle pasta was to die for. The spéculos tiramisu was also incredible. Terrible service, the stuff is rude , they discriminate families with kids. If you don't drink alcohol the waiter throws tantrums and frowns. They expect everyone to order a full dish no matter how small kids are and that their portions are huge ( a portion serves not 2 but 3 people) so ordering food for 3 adults and 2 kids would mean getting the food we usually consume for 3 days. No kids meal or little kids size portions offered. They demand what you have to order and how much you order, or they kick you out - have never been to a place with such attitude. The waiter was frowning and rolling eyes on us the whole time we were trying to order , just because we made a clear statement on the alcohol push - we don not consume alcohol.... They demanded the kids to order at least pasta , while we ordered fries for both kids ( kids have gluten intolerance) and they were going to have portions of the adults meals. Most ridiculous place we have been to. They should make it a price per person to get in instead of demanding people to order food they don't want to after waiting an hour to be seated. read more

Excellent lunch today at La Favola. There were two of us and we split the Pizza Reine and the Artichoke Salad. The pizza was great - nice thin crispy crust without a lot of heavy tomato sauce. The artichoke salad was superb - nice thinly sliced fresh artichokes with arugula (rocket) and a light olive oil dressing. We split the Moelleux - it was good but the inside wasn't as runny as others I have had and prefer. Nice place - will definitely go back. Service was fine - attentive and helpful. On our first night in Nice we had a lovely dinner at La Favola. My Sea Bass was perfectly cooked and the vegetable sides where so fresh and flavorful! It was a nice outdoor setting and allowed for great people watching. Our meal didn't take too long to be served and the server was more attentive than other places we have been to in France over the course of our 10 day trip. I would highly recommend this location...oh and the delicious Chocolate Lava Cake! One is plenty big enough for two ;) read more

We found it while walking in the Flower Market and were attracted to it because of the very large portions of delicious pasta. A friend who lives in Nice recommended this place so we were excited to try it. Here is a recap of our experience: 1. We were seated immediately. They have hostesses that stand outside and quickly seat anyone interested. Good at getting the customer, not so good with the service after you sit down. 2. We waited for 15 minutes and after many attempts to flag down our waiter, we caught the eye of another waiter standing around (there were at least 6 waiters standing in the front doing nothing). We asked if he could help us with the French menu since we speak English. He wasn't very helpful and didn't know the translations of the food so we just picked two items that we knew the translation in English for. Of course, later we find out they have menus in English. I believe it's good service that if you have the English menus and you see your customer struggling, then offer them out, especially when you can't translate it yourself. It would make it easier for everyone. 3. Food arrived lukewarm. It's average food for an average place. Really big portions though so you feel like you're eating your money's worth! 4. We asked for the check and waited another 15-20 minutes for it. Then tried again and then waited another 15 minutes before we finally got the check and paid. Overall- poor service, average food, good outdoor environment. There are other better Italian restaurants around here though. read more

My husband and I enjoyed lunch here while in Nice on a bright and sunny, but cold day. We were lucky to be seated at a table for two outside so we could do a fair amount of people watching. This place is located on a corner, and there is quite a bit of foot traffic passing by, making it a good spot to watch the hustle and bustle of the people at the market buying their flowers or fruits or whatever. We ordered a pizza to split, along with a couple of glasses of wine. I really wanted mushrooms added to my pizza, but my husband forgot to order them. After our pizza arrived, my husband asked the server if we could get a side of mushrooms (I realized they would be cold, but I just wanted to add them to our cheese pizza), but the server just couldn't understand that we wanted a side of mushrooms. At first I thought perhaps we had a language barrier, but then a manager came over to tell us that we could not have a side of mushrooms. It was really strange. It certainly didn't ruin our meal, but it was really odd. We would have paid for them, but they just wouldn't even bring them. The pizza itself was really good, and the two of us devoured the whole thing. I'd swing by here again next time in Nice, but I'd be sure to add any extra ingredients at the time we order! read more

Waited another 10 minutes to get our check and had to snap my fingers to get his attention. My husband and I had dinner here during our one war anniversary. We thought it would be a great place given the line out the door and that we had to wait in line for a while for a table for two. Yes, they speak some limited English which is a plus and have English menus but it kind of stops there. They cannot recommend wines and don't even list the vintages on the menu. We ended up getting a 2013 Bordeaux blend but our waiter didn't even let us read the label or give us the price despite asking twice. The wine was pretty good, hence the two stars, but everything else went south. They don't bring you plates for bread and olive oil - a bit odd since they do give olive oil. I guess either you can smear it all over your hands or drink it out of the bottle? Haha. We then ordered the arancini as an appetizer and a margherita pizza for our main course. Service was quick for food - too quick as if they had everything made and they just bring it out like fast food places. They brought out the pizza two minutes after the arancini and when I asked to have it brought later he simply said 'no!' I asked again to which our server replied 'ok but cold '. WTF???!!! I thought we were at a nice restaurant in Old Town Nice, not a fast food place. We definitely felt rushed and were not able to sit and relax and enjoy a meal as we were hoping to do. The arancini was decent - a large portion with two big fried balls! The margherita pizza was mediocre as best - it was really just a cheese pizza - soggy with too much cheese, practically no sauce, and definitely no basil as advertised - not what we ordered!!! Familiar or any other corner pizza places have much better pizza. Unfortunately they seem to really not care at all about customer service. I mentioned this to our service and he just shrugged and walked away. I think if you want a quick bite with large portions it's fine, but definitely don't go here for a good experience. Very similar menu and feel to the restaurant La Voglia across the street, so I suspect that they are owned by the same person. This place is very popular. It has long lines by about 7:45 as does it sister restaurants, La Voglia (just across the street) and Di Pui just down the street. All 3 restaurants specialize in GIGANTIC portions. I was suspicious of the quality of the food for that reason but the pizza and seafood pasta we got were delicious. We ate outside on a hot night but it was nice under the awning. The pizza was thin crust, just as I like and had a delicious fire-roasted crust. The seafood pasta was enormous and loaded with mussels, squid, clams and 1 giant shrimp. The pasta was cooked perfectly al dente and the sauce was so seafoody it tasted like it was scooped from the ocean! My colleague and I had discussed we are just doing a food tour. Eat a bit out of each restaurant. So we saw the lasagna was huge and decided to share that. We went around 7 and we got one of the few remaining tables. By the time we got our food there was a line building and by the time we finished eating the line was quite substantial. The food here is tasty and the portions are quite large. Even though you are spending 20 or so euros on a dish you can rest assured that you're getting a lot of food. I got the seafood spaghetti and it came with a ton of mussels and clams along with a good portion of noodles. My friend ordered the sea bass and it came with the entire fish with the spine removed.
