avoid at all costs after traveling all day my mom and i went here for dinner. we choose to sit inside since we thought it was cooler. we had the RUDEST server ever. i understand that their is a language barrier and the french isn't always the nicest but this behavior was unacceptable. we sat upstairs on saturday june 28 around 7 pm and had a server that was on the shorter side and plump. i asked him for buttered noodles and he said the noodles were already ready and they couldn't just do that.. and then i asked for the chicken strips off the kids menu and he told me no as well. i asked if we could double it to make it an adult price and he still said no... my mom then told him we needed to leave since i can't eat there and he angrily said he would make the chicken. the rest of the night he paid our table no attention when he had about 5 tables walking past us. we starred and tried to flag him down multiple times as well and he ignored us. we sat for the majority of our dinner without water. when it was time to pay he rushed the whole transaction and then aggressively tore the ticket from the machine. in addition to this while i was using the restroom an employee came in did her business and didn't was her hands. read more

Our last night and we walked by this restaurant a few times. It's a very attractive space which attractes locals and tourists alike. Walking bybI saw beautiful pizzas and clam and linguini pasta. I already knew what I wanted. We were warmly greeted and seated within a reasonable amount of time upstairs. Our server brought us a bottle of sparkling water and I ordered as expected, a cheese pizza and linguini and classic. The pizza came first and it was wonderful. The crust was just the right thickness and the combination of their house sauce and cheese was very tasty. It's almost like you can taste just how close you are to Italy. The linguini and clams was a huge portion and expertly prepared and presented. The taste was just as I hoped it would be. Absolutely fabulous! Everything was perfect, pasta, sauce, and clams. Rooftop seating. Request the upper level! We had a decent meal here. The carbonara was the best thing we had. The pizza wasn't terrific. We got a marinara and it was more like a cheese pizza. Pizzas are served as halves. Our waiter Michael wasn't super friendly. We requested he add a little more for a tip, but seemed so disinterested in us that he didn't add it. His loss? Excellent Italian restaurant near the Place Massena! I enjoyed a salad topped with fresh Parmesan, and my friend had the Margarita pizza. They will also bring olives if requested! The bread was very good, and was served with olive oil. This place was very busy, and the service was decent, but not spectacular. The first night we came here was amazing! We split a pasta and a pizza and both were fantastic. The service was also great and our waitress was very friendly and attentive. The second night we came was not as great- however it might be because we ordered the wrong dishes for our taste preferences. I had a Caesar salad and it was smothered in thick dressing, and the fried fish platter was disappointing because there was only one shrimp and lots of sardines (which I do not like). But overall it was packed every night, in a great location and if you stick with pasta and pizza it will be delicious! read more

This was sadly one of the worst dinning experiences I ever had. My company was in Nice this week for a meeting and we had a group dinner here. I really am struggling how to describe how bad it was. First, the service. The wait staff was not very friendly and despite being overwhelmed, made it clear that they were annoyed with having to serve us. Our starter was a sad plate of two pieces of rye bread with pâté and jam. It was a very small portion and also not very flavorful at all. We waited for 45 minutes for the next plate and this was really where the disappointment rose to a new level. The main plate consisted of 4 gross looking shrimp and a soggy vegetable medley. That was it...peeling the shrimp ourselves to reveal a tiny amount of meat which tasted dirty. The veggies were flavorless and wet. There was no flavor whatsoever. After another 30 minutes, they served a dessert which was like a tiramisu. It was the only decent thing in the whole meal. Oh, and to make matters worse, this entire experience took almost 3 hours! After leaving I actually walked down the street and found a brasserie with pizza and a coke. It was magic and delicious, and saved me from going to bed starving. Avoid this place at all costs - there are a ton of great places all along this street. read more

Sure it's in a touristy area, but still popular with locals; people were lined up for tables early by European standards for dinner. You walk by a very tempting spread of antipasti by the door, but save room, because the main dishes and even the entrees are the most generous portions I've had in France. A salad can fill you up, and was laden with artichokes and cheese. Three of us split the spaghetti fruits de mer, which came out on a heavy platter three times the size of my face! It was heavy with mussels, calimari, clams, and crevette, and I couldn't believe it was just 18 euros. We all ate well, and had some local rose, for just 19 euros each. Don't let the location or plastic patio put you off, this was my favorite meal in Nice! read more

Terrible food and rude atmosphere. From our experience the only reason this place is in business is because it's location right on the busy tourist trap walkway. Half my muscles were closed (meaning they were already dead when they hit the pot to be cooked). Waiter spilled wine all over table and didn't so much as apologize. It's been two years since I was there and I'm still thinking about this restaurant! What great Italian food and big plates, great atmosphere and you're in Nice! No better place than on the patio. And out of the 4 days we spent in Nice, we had dinner here twice. It was amazing, service was great and everyone spoke English. Did I mention big portions, and fantastic food! The first night we had dinner there, my wife forgot a shopping bag under the table. We realized it when we got back to the hotel and I called the restaurant as I was running back (it was an expensive shopping bag!) I spoke to the manager, the waiter found it and they were holding onto it in the office, assuming I would reach out. Sure enough, all was in tact exactly as we left it. We were refused service at Villa D'Este when we asked if we could have dessert & coffee. This is a restaurant that we have frequented often these past few years. The manager very rudely dismissed us by saying if we want dessert & coffee, we should have dinner first and told us to go elsewhere if that was all we wanted. Whilst stuck in Nice recently due to a transport foulup, my partner and I asked our hotel concierge where a good place to go for dinner might be, and with no hesitation at all she pointed us at Villa d'Este. And in doing so provided one of the highlights of our entire trip. Though thoroughly busy and full of diners, the adept team of waiters led us past the huge bowls of mouthwatering looking fresh pizza toppings, quickly located us a table and had us seated within minutes of arriving. The place was buzzing with activity and energy, with birthdays, gatherings of friends, romantic couples dining and casual groups all mingled happily together. About the only point of agony was making a selection from the exciting looking menu - my cannelloni were made of pure happiness, and the margherita pizza was an elegant example of flavoursome perfection. We chose a stunning bottle of Barbera to accompany, however making one single selection from the wine list was another agony of pleasure. As a nice older French gentleman explained to us on the flight over, Nice used to be part of Italy, but was handed over to France in the 1860s in thanks to Napoleon for his support during the Italian war of independence against Austria. As such, he said that Nice is famous for its pizza - it seems a potential card to exploit to squeeze money out of tourists, somehow. I can't help but think that when that kindly-faced French gent described "famous pizza" to us, he might have somehow been thinking of La Villa d'Este. We solemnly vowed to come back the following week when we were back in Nice, and we damn well would have if we hadn't stumbled across the amazing wine bar... but that's another story. read more

They force you to order food for each person, even if not hungry. Also, smallest starter option starts at 13 euros. Very bad experience.

Sadly, this place would have more stars but the only good thing I can say is the Appearance. Outdoor seating (heated and covered at the time, 1st week of April) Indoor seating in the back and the food on display at the front looks wonderful with the set up and colors, extra seating upstairs as well. The appearance and smell were the only good things my Fiancee and I had to experience. The rest of the experience: seated upstairs, we look over menu and decide to order a pizza to share (the people next to us had a pizza and it looked too big for one person to eat). We told our server what drinks we would like, and the Reine Pizza. (all politely in French of course). Our server told us we are not allowed to share and that each person must order a meal (we would have left if we wanted to make a big deal out of that policy but we stayed, and ordered extra instead to bring back for left overs at the hotel). My fiancee ate the Pizza de Reine, and I ordered Gnocci aux 4 Fromages. Our food was served quickly with our drinks as well.. Both of our meals were delicious, I had a small slice of my fiancee's pizza and he had a few bites of my pasta dish. We were served a basket of bread as a side, after we were getting full, and water from the tap after we were done with our drinks. My fiancee asked for the final cheque and a to-go box for the rest of our food. Our server told us that they only have foil, no boxes.. So instead of wasting my meal i slowly eat more, my fiancee waits for his pizza to be wrapped in foil as we pay for the cheque. Our server did apologize that the policy was a meal per person and no sharing. Experience continued: we left the place thinking we just stopped in at the wrong time, our experience wasn't as good as others have. When we got back to the hotel, I put the pizza in the fridge so we have a snack for later that night or next morning, My fiance and I both had a difficult time sleeping and waking up. It was only till i realized he had food poisoning from throwing up all the pizza he ate. I only had a slice so i felt sick but not as much as he.. Good thing he only ate HALF of the pizza because all night he was trying to recover.. On that note- I've wanted to write a small review to others to have tips of what to expect. My experience started great from visual, smell, taste, and friendly staff, but in 5 minutes from being seated the mood changed to limits. meals, timing and then my fiancee's experience.. Staff- 3.5 stars Appearance- 4 Stars **researching to make sure this was the correct place I've found other reviews but quite outdated, The look of the place has changed and the Menu prices have gone up. So when you see it don't expect that. Their website is outdated.. (unless i am writing this review and found another place - which i did stumble across another restaurant with similar name. Probably one of the best restaurants I've ever been to. In all of Europe. Not even kidding. My dad and I were visiting Nice for the night and were excited to explore the various restaurants in the cute downtown area. Several restaurants were open and waiting with vast menus boasting authentic italian pizza, pasta, and fondue. We opted for La Villa d'Este thanks to a suggestion from a friend. We were not disappointed. Ordered the Pizza with mushrooms, ham, veggies, and mozzarella cheese, and my dad selected the seafood pasta. Both dishes were less than $20; and both were life changing. The pizza itself was hot out of the oven, with a thin crust, fresh toppings, and outstanding melted buffalo mozzarella. The pasta was deliciously flavorful and FULL of seafood; shrimp, mussels, clams, you name it! The house red wine was perfectly complementary with both dishes and was exactly what my dad had in mind when he ordered a "smooth french wine". We were too full for dessert but if I ever go back I'm going for the brownie dish! read more

The pizzas were far too large for one person, so we gave one away to the Canadian couple that sat next to us. The pizza itself was fine, but the policy was ridiculous. I had the the seafood spaghetti, mussels were fresh, overall nice dish, hubby had the sole with zucchini, Mom had salmon, friends had oven baked ziti, kids had pizza and pasta, everyone was really happy with food. Desserts were in generous portions, I had the eclair, others had the tiramisu and chocolate cake, all can be shared, they were big for us! There's no kids menu which was disappointing for our 3 and 5 year olds. There was a child seat which was nice. We arrived in Nice late at night and needed a place that was open late. One the Rue Massena there are a lot of options. The food looked really good as we walked by. I didn't have cell service in Europe so I couldn't read Yelp reviews online. I'm glad we stopped here. I ordered the Rigatoni dish that the waiter recommended and the portion was huge so I shared it with my husband and we still couldn't finish it. My husband ordered a Seafood pasta dish the waiter recommended he said it was a little too seafood for me with that fishy flavor. I am particular about the seafood I eat-I don't like mussels or clams or raw sushi. My husband was jealous because I ordered exactly the same dish he wanted but thought he should try something else. The pizza's next to me looked delicious too. Our waiter was great and attentive. We also had a bottle of the Santa Christina Italian wine and we enjoyed it so much we bought a case when we arrived home. We had the pizza reina with ham and mushrooms, the pizzas are Neapolitan style cooked in a wood burning oven. We also shared the salad archiote - spinach salad with artichoke, sundried tomatoes, shaved Parmesan cheese and balsamic vinegar. Enough food to share. Fabulous Italian place and great service. The pictures on line of the inside are old, the place has been renovated a bit, nicer colors now. The menu is very similar as what is posted. My food was delicious, we started withan eggplant appetizer that I thought would be like eggplant rollentini, but it was more a layered dish. it was delicious, the sauce was fabulous. It was a shame to leave any sauce in the plate but I knew another fabulous entree was coming my way. Even though it was hot out and I should have eaten something a bit lighter, I ordered the canneloni....stuffed with veal and cheese. Oh my, so good, and the sauce, perfect. I ate every drop and just moved the table aside so I could make my way out of the seat and waddled down the staris to leave. I enjoyed every bite. The owners of this place also own two other places in the Cours Salaya, La Favola and another one across the street from it. Menus are almost the same.
