I thought this place had shut down but when I sent my husband to buy tamales, he came here. He said…read morethe place was up and running with customers. He only came here because he thought that if the tamal cost $6 then they had to be good. They were not. When I asked him where he got them and he said here, I looked it up on Yelp, who was saying they were permanently shut down. Little to no flavor. Traditional Guatemalan tamales have a slice of red bell pepper, and an olive in it, giving it more flavor but this one just had the meat and let me add that the amount of bones that were in the tamale was just absolutely unacceptable. Everyone knows that you don't put bones in tamales. The amount of times I bit into a bone or had to spit them out, made the eating process so unpleasant. I had told my husband to not come here anymore since it's so overpriced but I guess he forgot. It was just another reminder why I don't come here anymore

We ordered the churrasco chapin (grilled steak with rice, black beans, sausage and house salad) and dobladas (tortillas with beef, cabbage and onion and homemade tomato sauce). The dobladas were yummy and hefty but not too heavy. The churrasco wasn't bad, lots of food. Food comes out relatively fast and is a little more on the pricey side.

First time visitor to Tacoma and holy heck this place was great... the vibe for Friday happy hour…read morewas off the charts... it made sense that there was no availability for tables so we opted for bar! Luckily we got there around 5 and were able to get 4 bar seats. Our server Colin was awesome! He happened to be from San Diego like the rest of us which made for great conversation and attentive service! The Happy hour was not just a good deal but the food was outstanding.... We ordered the oysters, chefs burger (OMG), empanadas (delicious) and the star of the show was the prawn and turf (that sauce and sourdough combo was amazing) Literally counting the days till I'm back, golfing at chambers bay and stopping by asado on the way back.

We got the Lomo ($68) and the Parilla Mixta ($50) with the mashed potatoes and the polenta. The last time we came here, they brought out a delicious complimentary bread but it seems like they don't do that anymore. My boyfriend liked his lomo (filet mignon) and it had a nice sear and the chimichurri and demi glace was delicious. My parilla mixta was yummy but the skirt steak was on the blander side and the sausage was nothing special but I really like the shrimp and the polenta was delicious. Overall everything was fresh and the food came out quick and our waitress was really nice. The restaurant wasn't too crowded when we were there but it looked like it was filling up and it is a cute spot for a date night or dinner with friends! It's definitely on the pricier side but we would come back to try their pastas or other dishes!

I unfortunately feel obligated to write a bad review. If you don't want to read to the end, the…read moreshort vers = I came here to celebrate my 40th bday, and we paid premium prices for a frankly awful meal that left my bf with food poisoning. The more detailed vers: I found this place on Yelp, but had never visited before. I was SO excited by the glowing recommendations, so my bf and I decided to choose it to make my 40th bday dinner special. - First clue something was off was the place was dead. We were the SOLE patrons there on a Sunday night! - My mandarin basil mocktail was quite literally a glass of grapefruit juice with a single basil leaf on top. - We ordered crispy brussel sprouts as an appetizer; not only were they not crispy but they were near raw? Tough, undercooked brussel sprouts lol what - My main was paella, it was...fine...not terrible but they were super stingy with the seafood, there were only 2 meager chunks of chicken, 3 tiny scallops and like 3 shrimp in the entire dish. Keep in mind these plates were fine dining prices; the ingredients here likely cost dollars, at best - Bf's steak was overcooked It was bad enough where I politely said something to the waitress which I NEVER do and she apologized and said their lead chef called in sick so all they had was a chef in training. Anyway that was all fine, we laughed it off at the time aa bad luck. But yesterday my bf's stomach was upset the whole day, and that my friends was the final straw to push me to write this review. To the restaurant owners: it's one thing to have a mediocre dinner, who cares; but we paid high prices to be served crummy food, have a special night be disappointing and then to get sick afterward? That's not alright. I will say, the service was great and the staff very polite so it pains me to write this but it felt necessary.

We went to Pimienta Bistro for my birthday dinner, and it was a wonderful experience…read more We started with the Rustic Bread served with olive oil and balsamic reduction. The bread was perfectly baked, delicately salted, and the balsamic was so good you'd be tempted to drink it. My husband ordered a Dark and Stormy, but the first one tasted like it was made with vodka instead of rum. Our server was kind and professional about it, and the replacement cocktail was much better. I had the Basil Martini, which was fantastic, herbaceous, refreshing, and easy to sip. For dinner, I ordered the Duck Confit, my favorite dish on the menu. It was beautifully presented, tender, and full of flavor. My husband had the Pan-Seared Scallops with polenta cakes and lobster-truffle beurre blanc, and he said they were delicious. The atmosphere added to the experience. I liked the artwork, and the music hit all the right notes. We were greeted and seated right away, and the service stayed attentive throughout the evening. Prices are on the higher side, but the quality and presentation make it worth it. This is my favorite restaurant in Federal Way and always feels special every time we visit.
