We got the cheese and beans, cheese and Lorenzo, the pollo and the squash. Throw on some side salad and mildly hot sauce for a fresh experience Not knowing if the pupusas would be enough we also got the camarones Diablo which was fantastic We always wanted to try the chilaquiles and boy was it good. Overall I was pretty impressed with their food quality and their service They went out of their way to offer us aloo paratha instead of tortillas. HIDDEN GEM ALERT With a serious craving for ethnic food, my friend and I headed to this spot in Auburn. Upon approach to this place, we were pleasantly surprised to find out that the restaurant was located in an industrial area AND we were the only English-speaking customers visiting that day (& the restaurant was packed!). Looks are deceiving, and the workers greeted my friend in Spanish. Having had a 9-day Spanish learning streak on Duolingo, I did my best to order for the both of us. I got 3/4 through before the only señorita that spoke English finished up our order. Geez, Can I just say best pupusas in town? Good portion size and definitely filling. Owners really nice and informative. Their rice dish with chicken is so good and tender with a pack of flavors. Definitely worth the trip heading down there. The menu can be slightly overwhelming for most who isn't hispanic. The one con I have to say is ordering multiple pupusas they don't separate the different ones so it can get confusing when you order with together. read more

This is a small, clean, and busy restaurant with friendly service. Five of us ordered 13 pupusas. They came to the table hot and fresh. All of us were very pleased. I've only been to 4 establishments that serve these babies and all have been good. This one ranks with the best. We got lengua huarache and chicken enchiladas, but there wasn't anything special about either of them, and in fact the chicken was rather stringy. I sat waiting for my teen at drivers ed next door and saw this place and saw the reviews and decided to try a pupusa as it wasn't something I have tried before. Honestly nothing special, I wanted some spices to the meat. I ordered a chicken, a pork and a cheese pupusa (cheese for my picky son) and even with the sauce it was rather bland. I ended up getting 2 cheese and 1 pork so I can't say if other meat would have more flavor. My son ate one bite and said it was a too soft bland quesadilla and he didn't like the texture. Salvadoran food? Pupuseria? A place that serves pupusas? Yes, it is. Familiar with Mexican traditional foods, I saw tacos and pupusas on the menu. ON my last visits, I ordered the Pupusa Revuelta, Menudo and tasty tacos. Free corn chips with salsa verde and hot bean dip to start. Pupusas were warm, thick, soft and pillowy. Think of it like a Mexican pizza pocket, only with hot, gooey and chewy fillings. The filling is chicharrón, but not the fried pork rind type*. It comes with curtido - a fermented cabbage slaw of sorts mixed with carrot and a warm, mild tomato sauce (salsa roja). Don't expect this to be spicy; ask for their special hot salsa if you want it to burn like I do. Menudo cooked right. The tripe had a "buttery" aftertaste that I look for when eating menudo and a ton of places really do not seem to get it right. Just wish they were more generous on the onion and cilantro that comes out with the bowl. Tacos: small sized, double corn tortillas, with choice of meat. I tried the lengua (tongue), fried tripas (small intestines), and the carne asada (beef). Cheap for about $1.20 or so each and delicious. The owner just redesigned the menus for easier reading and did a wonderful job. Belen has become my favorite stop for an easy, no brainer lunch and/or dinner destination when tacos come to mind. Update: Ate the soups (caldos). The beef soup and the chicken soup are fab-u-lous! When ordering the chicken, ask for it separately! I have had a thing for Papusas since I was in the Peace Corps in Central America. It is not often that I really crave this food but today I was in the area and had this place bookmarked so I decided to check it out. There are a total of seven tables To sit at and all but one of them are good for four people. There is one that only seats two. I'm not exactly well-versed when it comes to authentic Salvadoran cuisine, but I was absolutely blown away with the pupusas! For those of you that aren't familiar with Salvadoran food, a pupusa is a traditional dish made with a thick, homemade corn tortilla then stuffed with a variety of fillings. I ordered two pupusa revueltas, which were filled with with tender pork, ooey-gooey cheese and refried beans. The tortilla was hot, soft and pillowy. It's also served with a side of curtido, which is similar to that of a pickled coleslaw. A bite of pupusa, topped with a helping of curtido and a drizzle of salsa roja = heaven in a bite! My bf and I also shared an order of yuca frita and chicharrón. The yuca (similar to the consistency of a potato) was fried and served like a french fry. The chicharrón (salty, fried pork belly) was different, but nothing less than delicious. Ever since my visit, I've been fantasizing over Belen's pupusas. Let me begin with some disclaimers. I have no idea what Salavadoran food to supposed to taste like. I usually frequent Guanaco's Tacos in University District (again, no idea why because I don't even really like Mexican food) so I'm no stranger to pupusas. But here? Oh my oh my. It was like a little tortilla pocket of heaven filled with delicious meat and warm, gooey cheese. They just don't taste like that at Guanaco's. They just- no. And don't get me started on the molcajete. Best food decision. Ever. Molcajete is basically a Mexican mortar. So you have a warm stone mortar filled with grilled shrimp, a strip of grilled steak, and grilled cactus. All that comes with tortilla, dipping sauce, and slaw. Everything was on point. I don't even know how else to describe it. The texture. The seasoning. It was everything grilled food should be. With pricing, portions, decor, and customer service, you honestly can't lose here. It is great to find a Pupuseria near my daughter's house! We were pleasantly surprised to see it listed when Yelping nearby restaurants. The restaurant is very small, but that was OK for us as we were ordering take-out. The phoned-in order was ready when promised. Since my daughter's boyfriend was unfamiliar with Salvadorian food, we had to order many things to give him the experience. We had several different types of pupusas: queso y loroco, queso y chicharron, queso y pollo, queso y res. (They have more varieties). We also had yucca frita y chicharron, and platinos fritos con crema. We also got some horchata to drink.
