The Horchata had to be the largest drink I have ever received in a restaurant (and it was delicious). I ordered the shrimp fajita and was pleasantly surprised by how many shrimp were on the plate. They were cooked perfectly and I love that it was topped with a grilled jalapeno. I also tried the choriqueso, which was fantastic with their fresh chips. I'll be back. read more

Terribly slow service, when the food finally arrived it was cold, cheese was a congealed block, salsa was weak and watered down, it seems as if there is anymore than two tables at a time it is considered a rush and the server will keep apologizing when he does make it to your table. Things like water are forgotten when you ask for them, and there may or may not be a distinct hint of racism when it comes to the order that you get you food. Read into that what you will. We had date night and decided to order takeout. WOW I am so impressed with La Enchilada. I read tons of reviews on Yelp for Mexican food and this looked the best. We ordered 1 of each of their street tacos. They were absolutely delicious. Every flavor was perfect! Not one was missing any extra jazz. They are simple with just cilantro, onions, and meet but the meet is BOMB.COM. We also ordered the Steak Fundido Plate - steak smothered in queso over sautéed onions. Again so delish. The queso was full of flavor and wasn't rubbery. I was really impressed with how great the rice and beans were. Usually those are just kind of a last min thing thrown together but these were a great addition. Definitely order extra rice. Lastly, we ordered the shrimp cocktail - the Coctel de Camaron and here I go on another rave - but amazing! Gigantic shrimp, the broth was so good I actually drank the leftovers (LOL), lots of onion, cilantro, and avocado. I have told so many people about this little hidden gem over the weekend. The choriqueso had good chunks of meat and was spicy, but tasted sweet as well, very strange. The food was absolutely fantastic! My husband got 2 chicken chimichangas with a green sauce. The chimichangas were stuffed full of chicken and cheese. Rolled in during a road trip looking for anything outside of large fast food chains. Hit the jackpot here. Ordered a batch of tacos (picked several from asade, chicken and pork) and ordered a chicken fajita for good measure. Everything was tasty and intensely seasoned. price is super reasonable as well. we ordered to-go, inside the joint was not remarkable, but they must be doing well as they have two large screen flat screens that pump sports on the tube. for sure would return. read more

I wanted to like it. The decor was authentic and so was the menu. Sopes! The tacos look muy bueno, but I wanted to test the sauces so ordered the enchilada plate which was pricey for lunch-time at $12.95, but included three enchildas. The plate arrived with soupy and not very flavorful refried beans, red, bland rice and three small enchiladas. One was ground beef (maybe should've requested shredded, but more on that later), one was cheese and one was chicken. I ordered red sauce on the beef and cheese and green sauce on the chicken. To me, enchilada sauce is the mark of good Mexican cooking because it uses a variety of dried chilies. These sauces were meh, the red being a bit more robust and the green watery. The service was a bit surly. I made the mistake of not ordering when first given the opportunity and finally had to flag the guy to take my order. And, no the place wasn't very busy, probably about a third of the tables in use. I had to ask for a refill on soda water three times before receiving one. When I got the bill, I'd been up-charged 3 dollars. Two for the soda water & refill and one for the salsa piquante I'd requested. Wasn't informed I'd be charged for a spicy dipping sauce. Suspect I would've been charged more if I'd request the shredded beef. Disappointing. If I come back, I'll try the street tacos which did look good. read more

First visit to North Dakota and wanted to sample some Mexican food while this far north. Pretty darn great. Had a couple of tacos and the verde sauce was spice tasty and great. The chips and salsa were perfect. Tacos were authentic and very good. Outside seating was a great choice, nice breeze and lotsa just right sun. OMG!!! We live in the SF Bay Area, land of over a 1000 Mexican restaurants, and this is GREAT!! The carne asada, Carnitas and shrimp tacos were exceptional each in their own way. The sweet plantains were the best I've had in years bar none. read more

I was delighted to find a real taqueria in Bismarck with authentic Mexican food! Having lived in both Northern & Southern California most of my life, this is my comfort food. House-made chips were hot and just the right amount of salty. Tacos were cheap (woo, Tuesday!) and there were a wide variety of meats to choose from. My family tried 5 different types, and the winners for us were shrimp and chicken. All the tacos came with a big fresh lime wedge. Yum! read more

Very authentic Mexican. Friendly service and probably the best mole I've ever had! Huge house margs, great guacamole, chips and salsa are incredible, and even had amazing lengua enchiladas (not on the menu). I've had a lot of authentic Mexican food in my life and this ranks near the top. Awesome! We stopped in for a quick bite. Very clean and happy atmosphere. I love the chairsThe homemade chips and salsa are on point. We got a the quesso cheese dip, which is probably the best I've ever had. I had the pollo (chicken) tacos, which were excellent. My date had the barbacoa (beef) tacos, the meat was really tender and delicious. We talked with the owner and he said they're working on bringing even more authentic Mexican dinner items to the menu, which already has a great selection. This is a small Mexican restaurant with lots of family charm! The owner and employees are very friendly and bilingual. I enjoy getting the steak fajitas, the vegetables are superb with the steak! It is a bit cold in the building but otherwise I have no complaints. read more

We enjoyed dinner at La Enchilada this evening. Having traveled away from tourist areas in Mexico, I can confirm that the food is very authentic. I was able to speak with one of the employees and learned that this is a family owned and run business and that the family is new to the restaurant business. My date had tamales and I opted for the chicken mole' (which was delicious) and a Sole (cerveza, yum). The sauce had the sweet rich flavor of chocolate with a nice tangy heat at the finish. It was obvious that neither the chicken nor the sauce came from a can as nice saucy pieces of chicken were swimming in the obviously homemade sauce. The decor was acceptable and latin music videos were streaming to the large television in the dining room. These we found to be very entertaining and we both wound up sitting on the same side of the table to better see them. With drinks, the tab came to around $35. Alacarte selections including $2 tacos on Tuesday could result in a significantly lower bill. I will definitely return in the future and wish this family run business my best wishes. read more

San Diego resident here. Some might find this weird, but the house tortilla chips are as good as the best tortilla chips in San Diego. Well, El Indio's chips are on a different t planet, but other than that Enchilada's can hold their own. Barbacoa taco was ehhh but the El Pastor was banging. read more

We're traveling and it's been a long day. Stopped here after reading reviews. The weekend special was ceviche. We love ceviche so we gave it a try. I enjoyed it but it was a little too spicy for my husband. He ended up getting a small green salad with chicken. They were so nice because there wasn't a small salad on the menu they just whipped up what my husband wanted. Including cooking up the chicken.....it wasn't shredded. Wow this place is another great option for legit Mexican cuisine. The shredded chicken and pork fillings are moist, spicy, fresh and delicious. Had the chimi, fajitas, basic taco plates. Dang good service considering there is only one main server running the whole joint. Kudos dude. Can get busy and it will slow up/forget things during a boxing match or game. Had to pay an extra 5 bucks to dine in during a boxing match I didnt know about. Their "Jungle Juice" margarita is potent and good too. read more

How this place has a high star review I do not know. I will never go back here again. First the food made me sick for the rest of the day. Food was not good. The server was also lousy. He would not give us anything such as napkins, refills or anything really just the food that made me sick. Also the food was over priced. Compared to other locations in Bismarck this was by far the most expensive. My spouse is Mexican and the server is possibly racist against other Mexicans, I know it may seem far fetched but there it is. Server would stand far from us and was acting weird but a group of white people came in and he goes near them without issue and handed out all the usual restaurant items such as napkins, silverware and tortillas. My spouse had to ask for the tortillas and the guy had kind of an attitude about it. I would give this place a negative star but this is not an option. My wife and I visited today for the first time. We sat outside on their deck and enjoyed a nice late summer afternoon lunch. The food and service was very good. My wife had a couple of tacos and I had the steak Mexicana. The ingredients were fresh and the presentation was very appealing. We really enjoyed the complimentary chips and salsa before the meal. We thought these were the best chips in town by far, as well as the salsa. We think that for the money and for authenticity the La Enchilada can't be beat! read more

Awesome Mexican food! I'm from AZ and was looking for authentic Mexican while in Bismarck. This place didn't disappoint. They were in the process of revamping their menu, but everything we had was great. Chips and salsa were great and flavorful. Also, a lot of places don't have Mexican shrimp cocktail, but they did. A super contender with El Guerro. Where as EL Guerro is your take out. This is your sit down with a blended margarita kind of place.
