I was one of the first to try their belgian waffles, which they toast to make nice and hot before dipping into their chocolate sauces just like the cones, and then also just like the cones you can add toppings. I only add this last comment because I had a terrible time handling the ice cream that night (felt like I was going to explode!) This was a really fun experience! It's simple, you choose your dip and your toppings and there you have a custom cone for a decent price. I only saw one flavour for ice cream, which might be something to expand. It would be much appreciated by us chocolate lovers. The dips add an element of fun and whimsy to this experience. The honey lavender dip intrigued me but I thought it might be a bit strange, the girls at the counter asked if I wanted to try and it did end up being a bit too lavender-y for me and ended up with the maple fudge. All the dips have either a milk, dark or white chocolate base, and then are flavored. They have over a dozen dip flavours and toppings to choose from so that gets overwhelming for people like me but I can go back dozens of times and get something new which is awesome. The ice cream and cones are great. A cone on its own goes for around $1-$4 and to add a dip it's $1 and toppings are $0.50, so it's fairly reasonable, and the small size is more than enough for dessert. The store is really cute and simple, not a lot of place to sit but there are some chairs outside and benches inside for a quick stop. The girls working there were sweet, there was a line but they were relaxed and patient with the big groups, small children, etc... It doesn't seem like much when you think of the concept of placing a dip on a soft serve cone but it makes a world of a difference. The dips are amazing, and true to the flavours they are supposed to be adding a nice richness to the wonderful vanilla soft serve. While it would be nice to have different soft serve flavours I think it was wise to let the dip be the star of the show. Also, for an ice cream place this ice cream is cheap & filling. My favourite dip is lemonade, that goes well with the tea biscuit cookies. So bomb. I'm also a fan of the cookies and cream and matcha!!! I really don't think you can go wrong. I fell in love with this place a couple weeks ago mainly because of their ice cream (even though the toppings and dip were amazing too and definitely Instagram worthy). I'm not a huge fan of Sweet Jesus ice cream because it's a little too rich and creamy for me. I love McDonalds but sometimes it's too watery or too soft. La Diperie has the perfect balance between the two. On top of that you can customize with a huge range of dips including but not limited to the standard chocolate to matcha to unique flavors such as dark chocolate ginger. And then you can finish it off with an assortment of toppings. I had the matcha dip with oreo topping which was surprisingly a good combination. If you have a hard time deciding they have some already set combinations that you can choose from. read more

Upon getting to the cone, my review had to be adjusted lower, by one more star. The cone was stale. In fact, I had made some "friends" while in line and asked how their cone was. They too expressed the same issue of having stale cones. I've been so excited to try La Diperie with so many pictures on Instagram of Sweet Jesus, which I believe is a pretty similar concept. The shop is so adorable, with turquoise (my favourite colour!) walls and wooden furniture. It was at least 35 degrees outside, so ice cream was a dire need. There are full-length menus in the entrance area, where you can choose your cone size, dip, and topping. I opted for a small with fleur de sel and rainbow sprinkles. I was honestly so full by the end, so I wouldn't go for any of the larger sizes. The service was wonderful. We got a seat on a bench in front of the cashier area, so we were able to watch them make every order. One of the employees looked up at one point and gave me a questioning look with a thumbs up, and that proved to me that customer service was a big aspect here (I of course nodded enthusiastically, ensuring her that we were thoroughly enjoying the ice cream). We stayed for around half an hour on a Friday afternoon, and there was always steady stream of customers. With the size of each order, La Diperie isn't something I would opt for too often, but I loved having a treat on such a hot day. read more

This showed up to be one of very few ice cream stores along Danforth so we decided to drop by and give it a try. The store interior runs on a bright baby blue theme which it's really Instagrammable. The menu is written on a huge chalkboard wall and pretty straightforward with a wide variety of options. There are three steps to customize your sweet treat: choose a vanilla ice cream size, then add a dipping, and finalize it with toppings. I got mine dipped in birthday cake flavor and topped with cotton candy while my boyfriend got peanut butter dip and topped with pistachios and almond crumbs. We both got small size but were surprised to see how big they were. The vanilla soft serve itself was alright and it started to melt after less than 5 minutes. I found the my dipping was dominantly sweet rather than tasting like birthday cake; and peanut butter dipping was somewhat weak. The toppings added a good crunch to it but again, really lacked flavor (at least for cotton candy). When I almost reached the cone, the whole piece of harden dipping (& toppings) literally fell off to the ground so it was very messy. If I ever come back, I would like to have just the soft serve and toppings. read more

They have a large variety of flavours for you to choose from, from regular milk chocolate to lavender dip. I played it safe and went with a milk chocolate dip. I was feeling boring that day. I'm not sure if it was because it was hot, but my cone just didn't look so good. The chocolate seemed not to solidify/stick to the cone. Worth the money? Definitely not. Sometimes when it comes to choice, less is more. I am not a huge fan of soft serve, but I enjoyed my ice cream (which I got with chocolate dip and skor). The sizes are bigger than you'd expect, so when in doubt go smaller. It's difficult to eat as the dip hardens, so you just have to go all in, biting from the top and working your way down. I prefer La Diperie to alternatives like Sweet Jesus. The location was nice and airy but could do with a re-paint. The blue walls make for great Instagram backgrounds! Very rare that soft serves can get this much attention. But this place is the BOMB. Cute little ice cream shop right at the beginning of Greek Town - its right under the banner so you cant miss it. Once inside you'll find 3 giant boards on the wall, labelled cone sizes and types, dips, and toppings galore. You can get an infinite number of combos so visiting this place once just isnt enough. Prices are very reasonable as well; not like you'll ring up $10 a cone (unless you create a meteor-like cone). Be wary of what type of dip you choose though because chances are if its super sweet like their nutella dip, you wont be able to really taste their soft serve, which is actually really creamy. They are slowly expanding their menu so look out for more yummy combos and variations. All in all great place for a family treat in the summer heat and a walk around the Greek Town neighborhood, which always has things to see. Only down side I'd say is that there was no ac on the day I went (the door was wide opened) and it was in the middle of the summer... perhaps some fans? read more

I honestly hadn't even heard of La Diperie before yesterday, but when my dining companion mentioned its existence and its proximity to where we already were, I was down to try it. I walked in and was immediately faced with a lot of decisions, but figured I'd just keep it simple. I ordered a small vanilla ice cream topped with dulce de leche. I was asked if I wanted it in a cup or in a cone, and I went with the former. It's fine. I will say, right off the bat, that offering a cup is a big mistake. The dulce de leche is the kind of sauce that hardens almost immediately after hitting the ice cream, which makes trying to eat it with a spoon extremely difficult. (There's a reason these things are usually eaten with one's mouth, it turns out.) The ice cream itself is tasty enough, although the texture was disappointingly icy and not nearly creamy enough. The sauce is also fine, but given that they're calling it dulce de leche, it was lacking in that richness one generally associates with that flavor. I can't imagine ever returning, especially given that most ice cream trucks offer a product of roughly the same quality. read more

Ordering is simple, and the girls working there are efficient and friendly! Best of all, there is virtually no line up! The store is of a decent size and there are 4-5 benches for seating. I had the small ($3, and trust, its big enough), Bailey's dip (+$1), and oreos (+$0.50). Brought some friends here tonight and they both loved the place. We each had 2, yes 2, minis. Green Tea dip - Had a very nice and creamy taste to it. The creaminess almost has a white chocolate flavour. A must try if you like green tea. 5/5. Honey Lavender - I found the idea of it quite intriguing so of course I had to try it. If you've had Earl Grey ice cream, imagine that but maybe 20x more punch of flavour. It was incredibly fragrant, both smell and taste, that takes a while to get used to. To be quite honest, the first few bites was like eating soap. It was just too much. After a few more bites, your buds get more accustomed to it. That or I probably just kind of mastered the biting the perfect ratio of ice cream and dip. I'd say this is a bit of a hit or miss. One friend took a whiff and right away it was too much for her.
