WHAT'S HOOKED? ME OR THE FISH? I'm telling you now, a salted and limed Corona and some crawfish is the best thing since sliced bread. If you really knew me, you'd know I pretty much dislike any kind of food that I have to peel at or work for (#laziness). Honestly, I really wasn't all that hyped to come to a crawfish shop, but I took one for the team. So, the normal thing for me to do when visiting a restaurant such as LA Crab Shack is order Cajun fries, tenders or other easy-to-eat foods. As we browsed the menu, we started off with Oysters (so fresh!), Calamari and of course a Catfish Basket with lemon pepper fries,so so so yummy. Although I'm not crazy for crawfish, everyone else loves crawfish, they ordered a load of em'. We also got the Combo A (35.99 before tax) which comes with 2 pounds crawfish 1 pound shrimp, 4 sausage, 3 potatoes, 2corn, and 6 clams. We got the House Blend Medium, I thought this was perfect because we got to try a little bit of everything. I usually pick at the crawfish and sides to fit in with the "crawfish fanatics" then "BAM" flavors everywhere. The sauce is AMAZING. I started to pick at the sausage and the shrimp and next thing you know I was pretty into the crawfish and I couldn't stop eating it! It was so delicious! Since the first time, I also tried the Gator Basket and the Gator was sooo buttery, yum! I deducted a star because the first time I was there, it was almost like we had to ask for everything, and by the time we got what we needed, we were done with that particular dish. For example, our waiter had brought out our oysters, but no lemon, no salt/pepper, no horseradish or cocktail sauce. It took a really long while after our request for it and we had started to pick at our food. In my mind, this was annoying because these usually come with the oysters unasked. Another thing is that the sauce was inconsistent, and this has ONLY happened ONCE so far in the couple times I've been here. We ordered the same sauce and same spice for our crawfish (which was delicious) and clams, but the clams came out cringe-worthy salty. Pricing is pretty decent, average for a crawfish restaurant. Honestly, with the deducted star, I'd still come back, it was still a better than average experience and the place is so pirate/sea themed it's so cute, roomy too! In fact, I've been back twice since, all in under a month. I'd say I'm a bit obsessed, or hooked I should say! ARGGHHH MATEY! read more

The location is in an old strip mall next to AZ International Market. The server (Phil) was great and the restaurant was clean. I got the king crab and didn't think it tasted as good as I expect king crab to taste. The headless shrimp and clams were pretty good. The other items we tried were mediocre. The sauces are very tasty and can cover up mediocre seafood, but for the price, I expect the seafood to shine on its own. Overall, I would rate this place a 3/5, but due to the other places in Arizona not being that great either, I bumped it to 4/5. read more

Their seafood is good, good place for two not a big place for a big family. Overall nice place to eat

Any restaurant that serves seafood boil has my name written all over it.Cajun/creole food is one of my favorites it's up there with Biriyani and I eat it at least twice a week. LA crab shack has so many positive reviews on Yelp this prompted me to try the food personally I love the trifecta at angry crab but crab shack doesn't disappoint the house blend is very delicious not overpowering with a sweet note towards the end. I tried the shrimp medium spicy they have 4 options Mild, medium, Hot and Inferno. The Medium was not spicy at all and I will be kicking it up a notch next time the house blend is a mix of Cajun, lemon pepper and garlic You can add 3 red potatoes for $2.99 A corn is 99 cents and $3.99 for 4 sausages Overall we enjoyed the food and are looking forward to trying other items on the menu. Cheers! read more

Not a fan. As a pretense to this review, we recently moved from New Orleans and were looking for a new crab spot but I do realize that we are in AZ and our expectations were adjusted as such. The first thing we noticed walking in is a sign by the door and wash station stating that they serve "Pat O'Brien's Hurricanes" as shown in the picture below. We ordered a couple hurricanes and when they got to us, saw that they were clearly not Pat O's hurricanes. Anyone who's visited Pat O's is familiar with the dark red color and very distinguished taste of their hurricanes. Granted. Our drinks were not bad by any means, but it was falsely advertised. The service was mediocre with our server coming over one time after we received our food. We did not receive plates or forks and when we were going to ask for some, she says "it looks like you're doing good over here" and walks away. She did not become attentive to us until it was time to pay the bill. The meal itself was ok, again we realize we are no longer on the gulf with more access to fresh seafood. However, their prices were outlandish for what is certainly frozen seafood. read more

Hand down this business is being held up and represented greatly by their employees. More specifically an employee called Aiden, the best employee that they have there absolutely stays busy the entire time from helping everyone from to go orders, works as a server, and helps throughout the restaurant. Don't know what they would do without him always has great suggestions and makes the time at this place amazing. 10/10 customer service on that end . Food here is good great flavors just make sure you come in before closing lol This place is still one of my favorite seafood places definitely worth a shot if you're thinking about going. Best menu range in from alligator, frog legs, etc all delicious . read more

Fast service , very nice atmosphere, with the games on tv, Happy hour prices, seafood very gud, we have had the shrimp in a garlicky sauce, snowcrab legs, frogg legs. Next tym I will ask to fry them 35 more seconds , I like them a little crisper, soft shell crabs. This is our Friday hangout spot, crawfish was gud in a hot sauce, working our way through the menu. read more

Love this place. Food is always amazing. The service is usually amazing but the only reason why I'm leaving this 2 star review is because our server Aidan was horrible. I don't know why I am sure this young man has served us before but last weekend he was so what rude and slow. His face showed that he did not want to serve us. Like we were bothering him. I get he was busy but he ruined our vibe. Vibe ruiner. Like Kendrick said "don't kill my vibe." Left him a tip hopefully next time he'll do better. Food makes it worth it to come. read more

Watch out Angry Crab, this place got you beat not only is it a open area space with lot of lighting and TVs, so you can enjoy yourself it also has great wait staff. This place is on point and for the price half what you pay for at Angry Crab with larger shrimp portion sizes and flavor. I have to say that I was a little sketchy about the place but like all things in Arizona everything's are in the strip mall the shrimp that I had was larger than what I got over at Angry Crab they never messed up my order two or three times, he got it right the first time, drink specials are on point to bring people in this is a slice of Heaven you have to go and check this place out to a couple of drinks, 2 dinners for under $30! Can you do that Angry Crab no you can't ! People are leaving there if at best spending over a hundred bucks for the same meal here at LA Crab Shack.. I encourage everyone to go by the LA Crab Shack located on Broadway it is the best. Sign up on Facebook so that way you know what the specials and deals are hope to see you all thwre soon. read more

Absolutely amazing Omgness we looooove this place over any other places and their drinks are amazing. 5 stars hands down

Took time to check this place out since it opened. I had been seeing this place for years as I went to shop at AZ International Market. I was immediately greeted by Laura and placed a to go order for 1lb of Frozen Crawfish & Head on Shrimp and added some cut corn on the cob and sausage (they don't offer less than 1lb per item) w/the house sauce Hot and an order of the hush puppies. The sauce is a thick blend that is heavy mix of seasoning & garlic which was good and tons of flavor. The seafood itself were good sizes, not small sizes. Everything was prepared well and tasted great. I used the excess sauce on top of rice I prepared at home. The hush puppies were seasoned well and cooked properly and came with a dill/tarter type sauce which I though was a nice compliment. The pricing is on par with market pricing for seafood. The establishment is a large open area seating with long table placed close together with some booths on the perimeter. I would definitely return to try other options on their menu that include various plates of seafood. This place does get busy from times I have passed by around prime dining times. read more

"I have trouble with seafood because it tastes like a dock." ― Douglas Coupland I'm liking this place! Our waiter Troy was excellent, the owner was friendly, and the combination specials are worth taking a look. The two of us got the Combo A [$35.99] to share which had 1lb. of shrimp, 2lbs. of crawfish, and six clams. Pair that with the Happy Hour $1 oyster AND the Facebook check-in special for a free Cajun Sampler and we were practically rolling out to the car. - HH $1 Oysters, minimum purchase of six: These are some solid Gulf Coast Oysters which means they're mild with very little brine and has a very clean taste. They're pleasantly plump and very soft. - Cajun Sampler: Frog legs, gator bites, fried catfish, hush puppies, fried shrimp, onion rings, and fries! It was a basket of fried cornmeal-battered bonanza and it left me feeling insanely full. What can really be said about your run of the mill basket of fried goodness? The Facebook check-in offer is until Labor Day and is redeemed when you order a combo. The Yelp check-in offer offers a smaller version based on what Troy said. Regardless, it comes free so why not give it a try?! - Lemon Pepper Shrimp & Clams: The lemon pepper sauce is super light to taste. I do appreciate how fresh those shrimps were. Most other crawfish boil places has the heads of the shrimp so soggy and mushy that they fall off as soon as you pick them up out of the bag. The shrimp heads here remained firm! When talking to the owner, he admitted that the lemon pepper is a bit bland but believes that lemon pepper is in general hard to perfect. I must agree! The clams were plump and meaty as well. - Crab Shack Blend of Crawfish [two corn, three potatoes, and four sausages included]: The Crab Shack Blend is a mixture of their Ragin' Cajun, lemon pepper, and garlic butter sauce. So our Combo A stated that it had 2lbs. of crawfish but it seemed like it was a lot more than that. I couldn't remember if these were fresh or frozen crawfishes but they tasted pretty great . No muddy gills, no dead crawfishes, and the crawfish tomalley was vibrant orange and sweet. I love me some crawfish! I can normally take down 2lbs. of crawfish by myself but I was defeated by this bag. I like how corn, potatoes, and sausages were included and we didn't have to pay extra like other places. Also, these babies had a ton of garlic on them which made me happy. No vampires will be coming after me! Stay away, Edward Cullen! All in all, I think the bill came out to be $45-something with the HH oyster prices, Combo A, and the free cajun sampler. For that price and quality, I'm definitely a fan! read more

It's a bummer that I am giving a one star rating because my wife and I were starting to really like this place. Last night we walked out after waiting 15-minutes and not one server approaching our table. The couple that came in after us were immediately serviced and it was probably because the woman who sat us put us in the corner behind the bathroom wall... We walked in super excited for some snow crab legs and sadly will be looking at the other options... We preferred this location over the bigger chain but poor service is always factor IMO... This was our third time at this location and each prior time had not had any issues. If I was the manager I would 100% find out who the server/host was that was sitting guests at 7:30pm and have a talk with them. There were other open tables that were in much better spots. read more

LA Crab Shack - Cajun/Creole Near Me - Mesa, Arizona

Brand new seafood spot! I was excited to see that this restaurant had opened up in the AZ International Market plaza. I remember seeing the LA Crab Shack sign above the restaurant when the grocery store opened up but since there were no occupants at the time I wasn't sure if it was an old sign and the business left, or if it was a business to open in the future. Now I know it's the latter! The menu is very similar to Hot n Juicy Crawfish and Angry Crab Shack. They offer different varieties of seafood by the pound with your choice of sauce and heat level. Oysters, fried baskets, gumbo, and po' boys are also on the menu. We had a group of 6 and we ended up splitting a dozen char-grilled oysters, 2 pounds each of shrimp and snow crab legs and had the Crab Shack blend, lemon pepper, and garlic butter sauce with them. The oysters came out first. Compared to char grilled oysters I've had in New Orleans, these were all-around a lighter presentation as they were lightly cooked, seasoned, and had a light smoke/grilled flavor. Overall they were decent, but I do prefer the bolder flavors of the ones I've had in New Orleans better. Although we ordered a dozen oysters we only received 11 of them. Someone needs to learn how to count! The seafood came piping hot in clear plastic bags. My favorite sauce was the Crab Shack blend, a mix of the Ragin' Cajun, lemon pepper, and garlic butter sauce. At medium heat it still had a bit of bite, but more on the lower end of the heat spectrum for me. Out of the two remaining non-blended sauces I preferred the garlic butter over the lemon pepper since the latter only had dry seasoning on the steamed crab which made it hard to taste the flavor once the shells were cracked open. We did order two sides of sausage which were placed in each of the bags and the lemon pepper tasted odd with the smoked sausage flavor but went well with the other sauces. Service was friendly and attentive. The manager came by to make sure we were having a good time and let us know to tell him if there are any improvements to make since they just opened. Since you will inevitably be a briny, oily, spicy dribbling mess (Even with the bib) after you eat they do have a washing station right outside the restrooms. We ordered 4 lbs. of food + oysters and 2 orders of sausage for essentially 5 people (One person had primarily a po' boy) and we all still felt hungry (But for something non-seafood like) after our seafood bonanza so I'd order more than what we did if you want to walk out of here feeling full. The only other criticism is I wish the tables were a little bigger so it's easier to share your seafood bounty with your party. It wasn't overly cramped but it did become hard to find a place for the paper towel roll, two buckets of discards, a platter of oysters, and 3 bags of seafood. Overall we all had a good time and I'd love to come back again to gorge on more seafood! read more

Went here for my daughter's birthday, she really wanted crab. This place ended up being perfect for her crab craving and allowing us to try some other things as well. Now I have been to several crawfish boils in Louisiana, and these places will never be able to compare with that. However, given we live in the desert it was pretty good. We ordered 2 lbs of snow crab legs, 2 lbs of headless shrimp, and 2 lbs of crawfish with corn, sausage, boiled eggs. We thought the boiled eggs were a little strange, but they ended up being really good. We chose the House Blend sauce; that stuff is delicious!! It was like crack for me, I couldn't get enough of it! All-in-all, it was a fun (although very messy) dinner. Would definitely come back here again! read more

The service was great. Our wait staff was courteous and quick. The atmosphere was fun and brightly lit. The food- I understand that salmon may not be their specialty. I would expect that they would serve something other than a flat, dry piece of salmon that suspiciously tastes like the other seafood that was at the table today. It was served with rice that oddly stuck together and took copious amount of liquid refreshments to wash down. The rest of the table enjoyed their crawfish immensely. I would recommend ordering that instead of the menu items they may not be as good at preparing. read more

LA Crab Shack - Crawfish as big as your hand - Cajun/Creole Near Me - Mesa, Arizona

The food was great & our server Audrey was even better. So kind & patient! No complaints

Came here last night for a birthday dinner. We decided to try this place as opposed to angry crab since it was closed to home and to try something different but sadly disappointed. My friend and I both got the house blend which was not flavorful and not spicy. I ordered the medium and my friend ordered the hot but we both felt like we got mild. The sauce was very oily and lacked proper flavor which was the biggest disappointment. I also didn't like that we can't do half pounds which limits how much we can eat..The prices were astronomical as well. The two stars was to our nice server. We will stick to Angry Crab from now on. read more

Here's another case where i wish I could do a half star (you reading this, Yelp!?). I'd go 3.5 here if I could. It wasn't busy when we showed up. Staff was friendly. Waiter was nice but seemed unsure about some of our questions (e.g. what's in the sampler?). But he remained friendly and checked back a few times while we were deciding. We opted for the Combo A. There are three combos available, or you can order by the pound if you prefer. The bucket came out quickly, along with the gumbo and sampler. First the sampler. It was fine. The fries were ordinary fries, no cajun seasoning. The hushpuppies were a little better and the catfish was pretty good. To my surprise there were also frog legs. The waiter didn't mention those! But it was fine with me. They're almost a cross between chicken and catfish. Not a lot of meat though. The gumbo was better. Seemed to be reasonably authentic even without the okra. Some gumbos have okra, but this didn't. So theirs is a bit more like a soup, which is fine. It was good. The combo came out last. Crawfish, shrimp, sausage, potatoes, and corn. It was good. In addition to the bibs they also gave us gloves, which was a nice touch. One annoyance was that the sauce all runs down to the bottom making it hard to dip your food in the sauce after you've removed the shells. The sauce is where all the flavor is. The portion was generous, and we ended up getting two more meals out of it at home. Overall a solid performance, and 3.5 stars. But since I can't do 3.5 stars, and they are better than just three stars, I have to bump this one to four. read more

I was here over the weekend and it was my first time. I don't understand these "fast services" reviews. Everything was extremely slow for us. Maybe I just had a bad server? When I first arrived it took the server over 15 mins before she got to me. I thought it they forgot about us. But after 10 mins my son used his stopped watch and it took her over another 10 mins before she even got to us. The worst thing is the server who took care of us, a young native/Mexican girl w glasses, walked by us a couple times, and she ended being are server. Maybe she is new? I do not know. After we ordered the food was very slow as well. We had ordered the sampler on the happy hour and while it was good you can tell it was probably sitting at the window for a long time. The food on top was hot while the food on the bottom was barely warm. I notice when I went to the bathroom that there was a pile of food at the window. The boil was excellent. All my friends have raved about this place. I got the ez peel shrimp and it was amazing especially that house special sauce. A medium is the perfect spice level. My kids really enjoyed their chicken strips as well. My low rating was just for the service. I felt uncomfortable leaving her a tip since another waitress, small petite white girl, was helping me more than my actual server was. I wanted to give it to her. Next time I will ask for her. read more

Went here for the first time since we just move here from Tucson. We usually visit Chandler and Mesa every once in a while, but we always go to Hot-n-Juicy for crayfish. We decided to try something new and be more adventurous since that we live in Phoenix area now. The restaurant itself is very well decorative. They have graffiti on the walls so customers can be creative and have fun. I love how they have the sink in the back area to wash your hands instead of going to the restroom, I think it's very convenient. Luckily we came when it wasn't that busy so we got seated right away. Our server was great, he's very friendly and since it's our first time there, he explained the menu on how to order and answered all our questions. Basically, you can pick any seafood item on the menu and choose your seasonings and how spicy would you like it. We ordered a pound of shrimp, a pound of crayfish, half dozen of oysters, basket of cajun fries, and fried frog's legs. The shrimp and crayfish seasonings, we picked 'House Blend' (thai basil, lemon pepper, and butter garlic) and we choose medium spicy, which is perfect and it's very well seasoned. The oysters very fresh and sweet. Love the cajun fries and the fried frog's legs, although I wish they serve more frog's legs. Overall, I'm happy with the service and the food here. I would definitely come back again to try other foods and seasonings on the menu. Now, I can add this to my 'favorite restaurant' list. I would recommend my family and friends to come check it out. read more
