The chicken was incredibly tender, with just the right amount of heat to keep you coming back for more. James, the bartender, greeted us like regulars even though we don't visit as often as we should. There was live music playing and a steady stream of customers coming in for dine-in and to-go orders, which says a lot about how loved this place is. My partner is very fond of Cajun restaurants, he's from Houston and he used to love crawfish season and he's been to Nola a few times having some awesome Cajun food. For me, I'm relatively new to it besides po boys and jambalaya. I've had Baby Kay's on my list for a while, and we happened to be nearby. We stopped in on a Saturday around noon. It wasn't packed, but wasn't dead. The decor is Mardi Gras. We had a hard time deciding what to try so we decided to try items we already know well and get a baseline for the flavors. We shared the shrimp po boy w/ fries and the rice & beans with sausage. We also had a side salad that came with the rice & beans. All in all everything was good. I've been a long time fan of Baby Kay's Cajun Kitchen. I remember going there years ago when it was in a little house in Scottsdale. This locations decor is pretty eclectic. It has red walls and lots decor - a combination of things you might find in Louisiana liked old wood shutters and dia de los muertos paintings. It's a little strange to see so much Mexican decor with the bayou decor, but somehow it works. Right next to the door is a small stage we're live blues music is played. I have to say that we were a bit put off when we came in. We had a reservation and when we got there there were several parties in front of us. We were standing at the hostess podium for a very long time while the hostess walked back and forth never stopping. We stood there so long that one of the musicians commented that nobody had come to even greet us. I asked the people who were in front of us what time the reservation was and they said they didn't have one. She finally came and we told her we had a reservation, but we noticed she was seating everyone that was waiting there, even the people who told us they didn't have reservation. She also left the list of reservations on the podium and we could clearly see that only one party that was seated before us had a reservation. I kind of don't see the point of having a reservation if it's still first come first serve. That kind of got us off to a negative start. It was kind of weird because they also were carrying a table overhead between two tables full of people - - that could have been disastrous but thankfully it wasn't. And we have an incident where our server asked us for our order and when the overhead table came moving through, instead of moving out of the way and continuing to take our order she just turned around and asked the table behind us if she could get them anything, and then the table next to that one--I was literally in the middle of my order when she walked away. Hubby and I both commented about the terrible service. But, I will tell you this: the food here is really good. The jambalaya is just okay, but the chicken and sausage gumbo and the crawfish etouffee are delicious. I got the combo which came with a cup of crawfish etouffee, chicken sausage gumbo, and jambalaya. In addition to the three cups it also came with two pieces of garlic bread and a side of your choice. At only 1999, I think it's a real bargain. Next time I go, though, I will stick to a huge bowl of crawfish etouffee which really is to die for. read more

I finally got around to checking out Baby Kay's Cajun Kitchen this weekend and it did not disappoint! The vibe inside is super vibrant with fun NOLA-themed décor that makes you feel like you've stepped right into Louisiana. Our server, Liz, was such a sweetheart--bubbly, attentive, and just overall great energy. Big bonus points for cleanliness, too. I noticed a staff member sanitizing menus between guests, and the bathroom was sparkling clean (always a win). For food, I ordered the Catfish Po'Boy with a cup of Chicken & Andouille Sausage Jambalaya on the side. The rest of my tried the Hot Wings, 1/2 Shrimp Po'Boy & Seafood Gumbo combo, and every bite got rave reviews. To top it off, I had a classic Hurricane cocktail that packed the perfect little buzz. We drove by this restaurant and decided to check it out. Definitely felt the Louisiana vibe and loved all the art on the walls. We weren't very hungry so we just ordered a couple items from their happy hour menu- a bowl of crawfish etouffee which comes with garlic bread and Lulu wings. Everything was so delish! The etouffee was very buttery and perfectly seasoned. The wings were one of the best I've ever had. Loved the crunchiness and the flavor though a tad sweet for me. So glad I found this Cajun place! It was late and Baby Kay's was still open and looked interesting. Our server was very friendly and attentive. We got the Tabasco wings - very good. For main I couldn't decide so I was very happy to see they had a sampler platters of the gumbo, jambalaya and etouffee (all 3 things I wanted to eat). Had a craving for Cajun food and found this highly rated restaurant on Yelp. Upon entering, it looks like a small dive bar. After looking at the menu we decided on the crawfish etouffee and Lulu wings. They were the best wings I've ever tasted. They were very crispy and the breading is amazing. Solid 4 stars. I was tasked with picking out a restaurant to eat at after we did a volunteer event in the neighborhood. I had heard good things about this place, plus Cajun food is unique in AZ, so I picked to come here. How was it? Pretty freaking tasty! Boudin Balls- Damn son, this was the best thing here! They come 3 to an order and are served with garlic bread. They were perfectly fried and super soft and moist on the inside. They were pretty spicy and tasted great! 5 stars, for sure! Hushpuppies- 16 to an order. They were just ok. Pretty small. I like Long John Silvers hushpuppies better. Combination- This came with a cup of gumbo, jambalaya and crawfish etouffee. Crawfish etouffee was bomb, nice and packed with tons of crawfish. Jambalaya was delicious, too. I've never been a huge fan of gumbo, and that trend continued here. Ate most of it, but didn't finish it. I enjoyed the etouffee and jambalaya a lot better. I chose fries as my side. Overall, everyone liked their meals and we got a whole mix of stuff (Po Boys, Fried Catfish, Oysters, Fettuccini Alfredo, Stuffed Chicken Breast etc.) Service was fine, cheery and friendly, but prepare to come here if you have time. Great time from the start! Greeted by the musician with a big smile and welcome. We were seated quickly and had drinks right away. The Lulu's wings were hot and spicy and Boudin balls were great with the apricot-pepper jelly. My son and son in law loved the po' boys with homemade chips, me and my daughter in law loved the bbq shrimp with green olive coleslaw and potato salad. I've been coming to baby Kay's for years and years since it was in Scottsdale around old town. I always get good service because the staff is always nice but down to earth at the same time. The original restaurant was really cool. The second one was still nice When it was near Town & Country and now this one is awesome because it's right down the street from my house. James greeted me with a smile and helped me narrow down some choices (which wasn't easy because everything sounded amazing). I ended up ordering the Lulu's Wings and BBQ Shrimp, and let me tell you... my taste buds were doing a happy dance. The wings? Hands down, the BEST in town! I'm not even a big chicken wing person, but these changed the game. Whatever magic is in those sauces brings the whole dish together perfectly. Honestly, I wish I had that wing recipe! I was told this place had great catfish so I decided to check it out one Saturday afternoon. It was pretty busy but my sister and I was seated right away. There was a New Orleans vibe with all the Mardi Gras decor. Our server was great, but it took a while for the food to come out. I tried the catfish and it didn't taste like catfish. Visiting Arizona and PBS (public television) features a show called, Check, Please! Arizona. This restaurant was featured and piqued my curiosity. Baby Kay's has quite a backstory--explained on the TV show and back of the menu. I started my meal with iced tea and a half basket of hush puppies with two spicy sauces. Their hush puppies were flavorful, piping hot with a crunchy exterior and tasty interior. They have a full bar. The ambiance is dark with ceiling fans spinning and blues music flowing. "Wine Head Woman"," lots of Albert King songs & BB King tunes, "A Sunday Kind of Love" by Etta James and Tracy Chapman's, Given Me a Reason set the musical vibe. Baby Kay's has "live" music on weekends. There's a small patio for outdoor dining. Dessert--of course! The question is which one?
