We made a reservation for 7pm (when they open) which I'm glad we did because it's a small restaurant so by 7:30 the tables were full of both out-of-towners and locals. They brought us their lovely handwritten English menu and we ordered the house wine, the lampredotto meatballs to try the typical Florentine meat, the potato dumplings/gnocchi with tomato & courgette, penne with tomato and lard of colonnata, and tiramisu for dessert. Everything was absolutely delicious, cooked to perfection. The little jar of fresh Parmesan was a nice and yummy touch! Something about the homeyness of the place and the buzz of the surrounding dinner conversations had us staying for 2 hours enjoying our wine. Would love to come back sometime in the future.

Just to note, they do have regular meals available too. We ordered a jug of the White Sangria (which came out along with a trio of nuts and bread for us to nibble on). Their tapas menu is divided into two - half italian and half spanish, which was perfect. We ordered the seafood paella, the avocado, cucumber and feta salad and the bruschetta will grilled vegetables. All very delicious and the flavours worked really well together! I went inside and complimented the Chef (Manuel) who didn't speak an ounce of English but welcomed the compliments all the same (the waitress managed to translate what i was unable to). Manuel then sent out a small plate of biscotti for us as a sign of appreciation which was just lovely and very unexpected. I have to say that I am surprised that before my review I was unable to find this restaurant on Yelp, but feel incredibly honoured to pop this little baby up here so no one else misses out on the delicious food here! You can get pasta and pizza everywhere, so it is nice for a change of pace. Bravo!

We have both favorite dishes and favorite local restaurants for those dishes. We generally avoid strictly touristy areas, but we ventured out to the Piazza just for a cocktail ... seeking a nostalgic "White Russian" drink which we'd not had in a number of years. We hesitated stopping at La Buona Novella because just a single family was dining on its lovely outdoor terrace. However, because we liked both the nearby piazza singer & his song choices, along with the fact we were assured the restaurant offered a good White Russian, we stayed. We ordered two drinks ... stunned when receiving a bill of 36 EUR (presently equivalent to 39.20 USD). Also, we've since learned that every other restaurant & bar there at the Piazza sells a White Russian drink for 9 EUR; i.e., half the price! When we complained about the 36 EUR cost of the two drinks, the server stated the price is exorbitant because the Grand Hotel Minerva is a 4-star hotel and, thus, can demand high prices. He further stated, "I don't set the prices!" Perhaps management will be less flippant in responding to our complaint ... and may, at least, have input on needed (downward!) adjustments to the restaurant's current drink prices. Charging 18 EUR for a single White Russian cocktail is simply too much! Price adjustments may very well result in increased business.

The management is young and the rooms are modernly furnished, with many Spanish-like references. We sat on a light colored wooden table, in the background room near the kitchen and the waiter tempted us with a multiple dishes deal that would let us taste up to the 70% of the whole menu, that is composed by 20ish different small plates (AKA tapas) with both seafood and meat, or vegetarian choices. So we tried their way, together with a sangria carafe and a virgin-cocktail with ginger beer for me (superdelicious). The tapas I liked the most were Tortilla of the day (with potatoes and leeks), tomato bread, fried cheese with almonds and jam and the shrimps. The classics like the octopus gallega style and the squids were not very tasty neither soft. There are a few things to improve, like a wi-fi is definitely needed, they should give the Tap water option since they only have small bottles available, and most of all they have to master the way of cooking the seafood. Thumbs up for the fact our clothes didn't smell that much even if we were next to the kitchen and the outdoor tables that will be a refreshing way of spending the summer happy hour!

Some salmon, with very very dry rice: i did not like at all. Some anchovies with spinach and burrata: this one i liked a lot, i find the alliances of these different ingredients very tasty. A falafel: it was ok, nothing special. Then for dessert, the mini bombe were good and the panna cotta was very good too. To sum up, the dessert were very good but i was not very impressed by the other tapas and even disliked one. Still worth going for this very cool atmosphere (and if you do not mind waiting).
