We like La Costa, no matter where they are located. We have been eating there for years and enjoy their friendly servers and owners. We recently ate at the Stockdale location (old Elephant Bar). We stopped in after a school event and were seated quickly. I didn't want too much, so I ordered off the appetizer menu and still felt as though I had ordered a meal. The shrimp tostada was piled high and it was all I needed. I ordered the house margarita. It tasted a little too much of s&s mix. I prefer better ingredients, so I should have ordered a special margarita and will be sure to check out the menu a little more closely next time to get more premium ingredients. I did appreciate the beauty of the glass with a pretty flower and fruit. Others at my table ordered the shrimp with garlic. The refried beans were very good. A lot of food! The garlic mix was spot on. We also ordered chicken & steak fajitas and they were amazing. I really appreciate the extra thought into what goes on the plate and the way they organize the dishes. It really goes a long way to making the meal more special. For a quick stop in for dinner, we had an excellent time together and were well cared for. We highly recommend La Costa!
Popped into this place for a quick happy hour shrimp cocktail. But, we missed it! My mom and I sat down and enjoyed a shrimp cocktail, shrimp, empanadas, and plenty of chips and salsa. We also ordered iced tea and it was delicious. This is my go to for a quick lunch that is not too heavy when I am running errands. It's perfect over summer, but was craving it on a very cold and foggy day. The service here is always prompt and attentive, even when I sit at the bar. The hostess was super sweet and found a perfect table for my mom who uses a walker. Once my mom sat at the table, she took the walker and stood it safely until we were done with our lunch. The restaurant inside is big. There is plenty of space for large parties as well. It is decorated with palm trees and other Mexican beach decor. If you're ever looking for a good Mexican style shrimp cocktail I highly recommend this place. They naturally serve it with tostadas however I enjoy mine with saltine crackers. Enjoy!
Came here after work and it happened to be my Friday. Had a drink and enjoyed some hot salsa n chips. I ordered the chicken n steak Fajitas, my spouse ordered the chile verde plate. The food was nice and hot, the service was quick and friendly. This place always has good music with the Puerto Vallarta vibes.
I have been a 100% La Costa patron, I have to say today was not good. We got seated, got drinks, took a minute for Grand Daughter to figure out what she wanted. Ordered, mind you there was a young lady taking care of all the tables around us, 1 man took care of the only table in that section, US. Ordered, not checked on until food came, no drink refill, no would you like more salsa. When waiter finally checked, HAD to ask for more salsa, food was mediocre today. Then the waiter GHOSTED us, never came back to our table, support staff took our plates and we WAITED. Watching young lady taking care of that section give stellar service to all tables around us. FINALLY after sitting there making eye contact with all support staff for over 15 minutes (trust me I looked at my phone) I FINALLY went to the hostess stand to say can I pay my bill here because our server has not been to our table. She apologized, an I said I don't understand why he ghosted us. Paid my bill with hostess, got a to go box with the hostess. Sadly I am at 20-25% tipper, sorry no tip left.
Decent spot for Mexican food. The portions were large. The mole enchiladas weren't my favorite, but not bad. I'd recommend the molcajete! It had a lot of seafood and veggies and was well seasoned. We also ordered the fajita and shrimp cocktail. This is a casual spot but well decorated. Our server was very short with us, but the food came out fast.
My sister brought me to La Costa Mario's while I was in town. The place looked packed and we thought it was going to be a long wait. We were quoted 15 minutes but were seated in less than 5. Our server was great and so was the food. I had a lovely gin & tonic almost too beautiful to drink. I would definitely eat here again!
We needed a restaurant for 11 people on a Friday night, and La Costa was the only place with a with a wait under one hour. We actually got seated within 30 minutes. The place was packed! The service was great. Our waitress, Samantha, attended to our needs promptly. Someone else brought out multiple baskets of chips and bowls of salsa. While this might not seem like a big deal, I've been to restaurants in big groups where they are stingy with the chips and salsa. La Costa is not that type of place, so that was nice! I ordered two cheese enchiladas, rice, and beans. The rice was better than I expected and the beans were okay. The enchiladas were also okay--it's hard to mess up two cheese enchiladas! Everyone in the group appeared satisfied with their meals. The food came out within 15 minute, our waitress attended to our needs, and that's all we really wanted on a Friday evening.
Such a perfect spot for a Mom's night out. I had the classic cheese enchilada rice and beans. Absolutely perfect. I had such a fun cocktail, a beautiful cucumber margarita. Service was prompt and friendly. A Bakersfield classic and I believe locally owned.
Brought family visiting from New York here because we wanted them to try Mexican food from the West coast. Food did not fail us. It was definitely flavorful and filling. My favorite was probably the guacamole which came with chips. We wanted to try their deep-fried ice cream but we were too full. Good thing, the restaurant was close to the Kern River Parkway which was a good way to burn off those calories. One thing for sure, come hungry!

The tortillas on enchiladas was not cooked or warmed up iykyk the way the tortilla would just crumble a they wasn't warm only the sauce was ..the poblano was excellent.. even tho it was missing some shrimp idk .. the molcajete was ok .... Full of bell peppers onions and chopped up chicken and steak ,chorizo it's Good ... tasty in its own way .. the place is packed .. employees very welcoming ..Thank u for a great night
My wife, a Mexican born and raided in Bakersfield, knows her restaurants. La Costa started in two other locations, finally expanded to the Southwest, taking over the old Elephant Bar location. Once you walk in, the decor is extremely festive, and undeniably Mexican. Every section is decorated differently and thoughtfully. The service is very fast, i have come here for lunch and dinner, I was always in and out quickly. Now the food. While my wife turns her nose at most Mexican restaurants in the southwest, believing most authentic food is on the East Side, this is one place she actually enjoy going. I had the seafood fajitas. It has nicely charged fish filet, shrimp, scallop, and octopus pieces, with pepper and onion. Oh wow, I was thoroughly impressed. My wife had the aguachile (I had to google the spelling), it is sour, spicy, such a perfect dish for Bako summer and when you want to eat healthy. Our friend had the enchiladas, I did not get a bite but she said it was great. The kids had chicken fingers and fries. I will be going there often. I hope you drop by also. Footnote, I used to spend a lot of time at the bar in the old days. It is massive, round, a great place to watch a game or catching up with some friends.

While I wasn't in the mood for the namesake mariscos after having enjoyed a couple of fish tacos for lunch earlier today (prior to my visit to this place), La Costa Mariscos' 3-item plate was ample and delicious. Two crunchy shredded beef tacos, a chile relleno (baked rather than breaded and fried), and a cold Modelo were pure harmonious perfection. Great value, too, with the food plate running just a touch under $20. Two items probably would've filled me up but throwing on the 3rd only added $1, so why not? When I visited on a Tuesday around happy hour time, the dining area was packed and the bar area was far less busy. Looks like the bar area has potential to be a very lively happy hour with a circular bar layout that should facilitate conversations and fun times as well as some more intimate high-top seating around the edges of the bar area in case you're out with friends and want the bar vibe without needing to sit too close to strangers. High marks for the decor, ambiance, and food quality. read more
My rating is mostly based on the drinks and my service. I got tired of waiting for my sushi spot to open so I decided to give this location a shot. I had already tried the original one and I never cared for it. People were already seated when I walked in a little after 11am. My ticket says my server was Gerado and he was so great! I asked him for suggestions on what to order and also asked him about the drinks. I ordered a tostada de ceviche 4/10. Really overpriced fish on a tostada that doesn't go well with the ceviche. Fish needs to be cooked in lime and not lemon, as I tasted it was cooked in lemon which doesn't taste good. The fish is chopped in good pieces, but for me it'll stay at a 4. The salsa and chips were a 7/10 only because the chips outweighed the salsa. Salsa is nothing special, tomatoes are chopped to thick and has no spice to it. The tacos come with a lot of grated cheese which I took off, solid 8/10. Albondigas surprised me, if they were cooked a little longer they would've been softer the way I like them and they would've been 10/10, but they are a solid 9. The fish was really nothing special 3/10, but the rice was really good 10/10. The beans were dry 3/10. I ended up making burritos out of my leftover lettuce from my beef tacos and the basic fish and used the green salsa they offer. The blueberry whiskey sour was a 100!!! One of the best drinks I've ever had! The El Corazón tasted like a strawberry margarita with tad more berry puree 7/10. Next time I go I'll sit at the bar, either way I don't feel like my feet will touch the ground. read more

Came for a holiday work dinner. They accommodated us fairly well. Service, venue and vibes were all great. Started off at the bar and didn't realize they had an awesome happy hour from 3-7pm. Then got sat at our table and ordered food. I'd recommend ordering the Mi Puerto! You get a taste of the whole coast in a dish. It was 2 breaded fish filets stuffed with shrimp, octopus and mushrooms topped with a white sauce. Soo good! read more

I met a friend here for lunch and though the server was prompt in taking our drink and food order, there were a few things that made the experience less than satisfying. For starters, my friend ordered a shrimp ceviche tostada and was brought out a tostada de ceviche mixed. When we got the waiters attention, he seemed confused about why she was sending the food back. Next, I went to unravel my fork from the napkin, and it had food debris stuck to it. Fortunately, my friend gave me hers since she wouldn't be using it. The meal itself was enjoyable, the flavors were poppin' in the enchilada sauce, rice and beans. All good. However, when my friend gave the waiter her credit card to pay, he came back with the receipts and no card. We had to wait for the server to come back around to ask for it back. That part was a little scary, especially with identity theft and fraudulent charges on the rise these days. Overall, the food is great, service can improve. The decor and vibes inside of the restaurant are beautiful. read more

Came into La Costa around 4:30 on Friday to order a dinner we're hosting on Sunday I made my order with Vivian who helped me decide on my choices. The menu was way to big to many delicious choices. The restaurant looked ready for a Friday crowd large staff was ready, I was asked if I was being helped by a several employees while I was making my choices. I pick up on Sunday at 4:30 i picked up our order at 4:30 all was ready. I needed to make 2 trips.We had plenty way to much delicious food. The sampler's combination platter would of been enough, tacos taquitos burritos chimichangas 2 salsas guacamole large amount of fresh chips. Warm fresh flour tortillas Plenty of food for our small group but I also ordered chili verde and enchiladas suizas I had enough for the neighborhood La Costa prepared a fantastic meal for us everything was delicious read more

I frequently eat at Mariscos and their food is good. This time my fajitas were burned to a crisp, the beans and rice were not hot. I ordered the combo fajita and the shrimp was blackened and dried out. The burnt beef was tough, the veggies were cremated but the chicken wasn't bad ok. Mariscos service was good, no complaints there. I think I will find another place with fajitas for now. It's such a busy place our reviews probably don't matter. 2 stars food, 4 for service. read more

We were seated immediately, greeted just as quickly. The waitress had our drinks out to us in under 5 minutes from us entering the building! We were very hungry and thirsty! Chips and salsa were very good! Never empty and drinks always filled. We love the ambiance inside, it's so cute and the music was not super loud so you could easily have a normal conversation. This is one of my favorite Mexican restaurants in Bakersfield. Tay was my server today, So friendly, great job! What makes this a stand out restaurant in town is that the staff is well trained and the service and food is consistently good. I love the colorful decor. It's such a happy looking place. I ordered the Chapecanna today. Soooooo Yummy! It is a cold tomato marinade with a collection of fresh seafood. It contains octopus, shrimp & scallop in a cold gazpacho like tomato broth with avocado, cucumbers, tomato, cilantro & onion. It is such a light, cool & refreshing dish. They have a large menu with generous portions and lot of fun cocktails. Lunch or dinner you can't go wrong here. read more

Best place to come for happy hour , the menu is spectacular with so many options. It was such a beautiful day we decided to sit in the patio . We all ordered several of the appetizers, I ordered the veggie Mexican pizza and it was amazing ! My sister ordered the Shrimp Mexican pizza and she loved it . Husband had the scallops in a half shell with ceviche on top and he also ordered calamari fries. The tuna stack was beautiful and delicious, I have to add that their food presentation is amazing. Our server was awesome, she kept checking on us to see if there was anything we needed. Excellent customer service , we'll definitely be coming back soon read more
I have to say this place never let's me down. The vibe at the bar is always upbeat from the music to the visual decor, not to mention the drinks are always good. The service is always good and the food is always great as well. It's pricey but what place isn't these days. Just had a bad experience at the new Que Pasa on Coffee if you take anything away from this review make sure it's this, come and eat here instead and you can thank me later. LOL. From the salsa to the entree this whole meal was wonderful. We sat at the bar and the ambiance was personal and gave us access to the happy hour specials. There was a kind man going table to table asking if they would like a song to be played. He only asked for a tip. The salsa was yummy and the food was amazingly fast and delicious. The drinks were done well and I even customized mine for no extra charge. Our server was also our bar tender and he did a wonderful job checking on us. This place was wonderful and we will definitely be going back. This is the kind of place I remember as a kid and I am happy we found it. read more

At 12:55 pm on 6/6/25 at table E6/5 I ordered the lunch special item #1 and asked for no onions please. The nice server acknowledged my request and took other orders. My food came out and had onions. I said mine had a no onion request. "E" said the item comes with onions. I agreed but had requested there were no onions. She agreed I requested that but said it comes with onions and it's on the menu and encouraged me to look at the menu. Then pointed out other items that come with onions on the menu. She blamed me for not knowing the menu. She acknowledged my request for no onions but said it comes this way. I asked if I could get another meat or the same taco meat without onions. She again pointed out the tacos come with onions and there are no substitutions. A co worker confirmed no substitutions. I asked her to take it back. She did offer to let me order another item which I declined. I sat and watched my table of 5 eat their food while I sat with no food. The manager never came over and a peer of hers said sorry. It was a disappointing experience. read more

I went here with my boyfriend for a little date. The decor and area was so nice and clean from the outside and inside. I loved the ocean theme and the little aquarium they had. Our female waiter was so kind and helpful. She checked on us everytime. Our food also arrived quickly, and it was delicious. The portions were great. We will definitely come again. read more

They do not.
Haven't been since they moved from 21st St., Do they still serve the albóndigas with the entré?
No. Albóndigas are not standard but I've spotted them on the menu as an entree.
Are there any vegan options? Not for me, for a family member.
I know they do have a Veggie Burrito that I've had in the past. You can also order pot beans instead of a meat protein on their Tostadas. Hope this helps and I know they would be happy to offer other suggestions. These are just a couple that I…
