I started feeling a little weird about things when the 9 days passed and they were essentially unreachable. I called everyday multiple times and no one answered. i was feeling a little like they were dodging me. this lasted another week. I was only able to get info by physically going to the shop, and leaving again and again empty handed and with no answers. they were extremely vague about what had happened. in the end, they started offering me a new computer for the price of the repair, which sounded the alarm in my mind.. -at this point I did not trust these people at all so I declined, picked up my laptop and brought it to Apple. Apple informed me that they could no t do the repair because they have a tampering policy and THERE WERE SCREWS MISSING AND WIRES DAMAGED. I went in to speak to them again today and see what they could do, the guy told me that that was all due to damage I HAD CAUSED, and that that's just what Apple always says. honestly, I probably wouldn't even be writing this long story if this guy has just been apologetic and offered ANYTHING to help. but quite frankly he was really an asshole about it. take your devices elsewhere! this place is the worst. read more

I had been to L.A. Computer Doctor a couple times to assist on issues with my Lenovo laptop. They did a great job to ensure that my 8-year-old laptop was back up to speed while also providing helpful guidance on how to ensure the longevity of the laptop at this point. I had continued to use it for video editing and technology has simply surpassed it over the years so they were great in just getting it up and running and letting me know what was worth investing in with it at this point and what wasn't. They are cash only but, again, their prices are reasonable from my experience especially given all the many other options around. They just have a real old school feel to them that I like. You could even hang out there on their old couch and watch telenovelas if you wanted. They speak both English and Spanish. They are clearly a helpful element to the community and neighborhood. As that plaza changes with the departure of Fallas Paredes, I hope that L.A. Computer Doctor and the other remaining businesses can remain here. Brought my newly purchased refurbished laptop for a memory upgrade. The price and time that I was quoted was fair and fast. They installed my new RAM( x2) and SSD in less than 30 minutes at the end of a busy day. They also took the time to show me the installation was completed correctly. Just don't go here. I took in my MacBook Pro last June to get the battery and speakers replaced. The battery was taken care of the first time I dropped it off, but the 'new' speakers went out within a week. I took it back a second time and thought all was well. Until this past January when my supposedly battery stopped holding a charge again. They're inexpensive which is nice, but in the long run you will spend just as much as going to an authorized place because you will replace, replace, replace your parts with LA Computer Doctor. Just want to thank these folks for literally saving my life. I had an important work event that I had to document with my phone camera and to no avail my iphone stopped working the day before. I thought I would have to go get a new phone and I really didn't want to given that it Black Friday Weekend and I had no patience for the crowds. I came in here with no appointments and the person there fixed it for me in 10 minutes. The charge was $100 which is not cheap but it honestly solved all my problems and was much cheaper than buying a new phone or having to sign up for some scammy phone plan with bad reception in order to get a "free one." I also heard that Apple and pretty much alll cell phone companies use a mineral in them that requires child slaves in West Africa to dig for the mineral so I'm more than happy to give as little money as possible to companies like Apple and invest in keeping the phone I have as long as it works! So the hinge on my HP Envy laptop broke (a little over a year old). I saw this happens a lot. I called Geek Squad and they would have to send it out for 2-3 weeks. DO NOT BRING YOUR LAPTOP FOR BACKUPS/CLEAN INSTALL I don't write reviews often, especially bad ones. But the terrible services and lack of professionalism that I experienced at this shop is too much for me to not warn others. It's a shame because the owner/people who work there are really sweet. I wanted to support this local business, but now really regret not just taking it to an Apple Store. I initially brought my MacBook here because it was running really slow. After I dropped off my laptop, I called the next day and he suggested that we run a Clean Install of the laptop ($100). But in order to do so, we'd have to backup the entire computer ($140) before doing so. This process isn't difficult at all, but since I was on vacation, I figured I'd splurge and have him do it for me since he said it would only take 2 days (Saturday Pickup). I had an enormous amount of work deadlines waiting for me on my return, so I paid all this money so my laptop would be ready on time! In the end, he kept postponing the pickup date. My whole laptop was wrecked upon further inspection so I spent days troubleshooting. And still finding issues with my laptop/files a week later. After picking up my laptop, I realized that EVERYTHING WAS MESSED UP. I've spent the past few days troubleshooting my laptop and getting it back to speed. And here's the WORST PART: I paid $140 for a backup that he NEVER DID. I think he assumed that I'm not well versed in computers. But guess what, I'm a Graphic Designer! Doing a backup isn't difficult. Instead, all he did was drag a folder from Time Machine. Completely lazy half-assed work. And this ultimately caused an ENORMOUS amounts of issues only computer. Here's a list of the chaos this shop caused: - Most software missing - Lazily named computer "User" and changed password - Because the computer's name was changed, it corrupted a majority of my file paths - My whole computer was backed up on cloud (Backblaze), but since he renamed the user/file path, I had to re-do the entire backup which takes WEEKS - Never did real backup so I had to re-download everything and move files from old hard drives - ALL OF MY FONTS ARE PERMANENTLY MISSING(as a graphic designer wtf???) - Instead of being honest, he kept overpromising the delivery date. Picked up laptop 1 week later and my clients were extremely upset - Ultimately had to waste time troubleshooting my laptop after I brought it in for a repair! Once the laptop was finally "ready", I went to the shop (an hour after opening) and no one was there lol. He then started to clean the inside of the fans upon arrival even tho he said it would be ready for pickup at 6:30pm the previous day. I walked out of the shop without expressing any animosity because I was just so happy to finally have my laptop back. Then whoop-dee-doo, my whole laptop/workweek was messed up.
