What a gem! Small hole in the wall restaurant off in a corner shopping center. When you walk in the ambiance is culturally elegant with an Italian/Mexican blend. We came for lunch so the prices were just right. I had the chicken suiza enchilada and oh my! The sauce was so good I got some to go. The chips and salsa weren't a miss either. I could eat the chips as a snack. The Nachos were layered and you could pick any chip and it was a perfect bite. The refried beans and rice were so flavorful and everything was so fresh. 10/10 I do recommend and ask for Kiara, she was amazing! read more

My husband & I decided to try on a Friday night, 10/27/24, after reading great reviews. We were seated right away. I ordered the highly recommended meat lasagna, which was WONDERFUL! My husband ordered the La Cocina Red Enchiladas (ground beef in a red mole sauce). He did not care for the sauce or the cheese (he didn't like the taste of cheese & there was too much cheese). Nice little cozy Mexican and Italian fusion place we recently discovered in the Round rock area . Ambiance was very pretty with a Mexican theme going on . The food had two sections - one Italian based and the other was Mexican based . We ordered one on each side - pollo ala chipotle and pollo con pasta (marinara based). The Mexican chipotle chicken was exceptional with tender cooked chicken and salsa was amazing and one of the most authentic ones we have tasted in Texas! The pollo con pasta was a bit disappointing because the chicken had a raw smell and pasta okay . Would not order that dish again and can try the white sauce based dishes next time . They had both wine and cocktails which worked for our pairing of dishes . One of the strongest margaritas we have tasted ! Our waitress was acting a bit non responsive initially but later was communicative . Would return here for the Mexican dishes, ambiance and cocktails ! read more

La Cocina has really done a lot with their relatively small space. The wall paintings and ambiance are really spectacular, and make you forget the restaurant is tucked away inside a strip mall next to a smoke shop. The decor is cute and cozy, and wonderfully blends Italian and Mexican themes. My husband ordered the Eggplant Parmesan and I ordered the (beef) Chile Relleno. My husband said the eggplant was quite salty (always a hazard with this dish, if the eggplant was salted but not adequately rinsed), and I felt the relleno was merely okay, but not spectacular, and the beans seemed to be halfway between borracho and refried--not terrible, but .... weird. We also had nachos con carne for an appetizer, and this was basically melted velveeta or something similar with some ground beef thrown in. I added some of their quite tasty salsa to it, which was an improvement. I also ordered a rocks margarita, which was quite good. If I lived very near La Cocina, I could see this becoming a default choice for an unassuming evening out, and no doubt we'd work out which dishes to rely on in that situation. But this place isn't good enough on its own for me to seek it out when it requires driving several miles. I hope the chef will choose to bring his or her food offerings in line with the pleasant space the restaurant is operating in. People are always willing to drive and to wait for truly good food. read more

Met two friends at this unusual restaurant that offers both Italian and Mexican entrees. It is located in a small strip mall just off of I35 in Round Rock. Very dark and casual restaurant owned by a local family. This time I opted for enchiladas, rice and beans. The taste of the food was ok. This place used to be our go to. The Mexican food is good and the Italian is great. However, in the last year the service has really gone down hill. I'm not sure if it's bc it's a family owned restaurant and they don't worry as much or what. This place is awesome! I've visited many times and never been disappointed. Their enchilada sauce is unique, with a more complex flavor profile than your typical tex-mex sauce. And what a bargain! In this day of rampant inflation, a lunch order of three enchiladas with rice and beans is still under $10. We went there on March 8, 2025. It's been over fifteen years since I last went here. I mentioned to my girlfriend that I thought the food was good. Upon walking in we were met by a server that asked how many and follow her to our table. A male server shows up and immediately asked us what we were drinking. I asked him how his day was and he said fine and walked away but no greetings or welcome. I ordered the Lasagna, my girlfriend ordered the three tacos. Every item on our plates seemed to have a cream base consistency. The rice and refried beans had absolutely no flavor. The calamari was however tasty. We were first served chips and salsa. Upon tasting it we thought the salsa had a peculiar after taste. As it turned out we were sick for two days after. I can only surmise that something in the salsa was rancid. Every staff member was not friendly nor welcoming. After we ate, I elected to have a desert but our server never asked and quickly said, I'll bring your check. We both noticed that no one smiled, strictly business. We will never return. This place needs a customer service tune up and wake up call. read more

Always delicious! Excellent light crunchy chips and fresh salsa. Favorites include the enchilada suizas, al pastor, puerco guisado as well the lasagna. We have never ordered anything that wasn't delicious. The caldo is great when you're not feeling great. A true neighborhood gem in a nondescript strip mall. Came on a Wednesday night and they were pretty busy. A little odd combination of menu having Italian and Mexican but we were intrigued. I got cheese enchiladas suizas and my friend had the Chicken Carbonara. The enchiladas didn't have great flavor but they were ok. The beans were the best part of my plate. My friend said the pasta was just ok. There was also something about the salsa we couldn't quite put our finger on that made it a little off. The service was also very slow and seemed non-caring. With all the Mexican food restaurants in the area I doubt we would go back. read more

She was pretty defensive when I asked for another set of silverware for our table. She seemed to warm up some after that, but my impression of her was already made. This place has strange hours. I have driven here three previous times and wasn't open. Kinda wish it would have been closed again, but wasn't. Ordered lasagna and dad ordered primavera. No bread or salad is added to the $16.99 plates only pasta! Never heard of having to pay more for a slice of bread when ordering Italian! To much $ for the plates... I can't believe it's been four years since I was here last. That which remains the same: Great service and I still don't love the garlic bread. New things: I tried the carbonara which didn't do it for me. The sauce was alfredoish and not like what I've had in the past. I couldn't tell if the mushrooms in the sauce were fresh and the bacon had a strange consistency. The value was good. I split a bottle of wine, ordered two entrees aaaaaand a dessert and got out for about $50. My friend said her lasagna was ok to good. Another meal was middle of the road as well,. Went here with a few girlfriends and what a yummy concept...Mexican and Italian! Love it and love that they have all of their family working there. All sauces are made from scratch. I went Italian this time and got a fettuccine Alfredo with Caesar salad and garlic bread. I ate it all! I was so stuffed but I couldn't stop eating. I only took enough time to snap a pic of the salad. Their Mexican fare was delish as well. Their salsa had a nice kick to it and my friend got enchiladas with a green sauce and it was so yummy. This is our "go to" restaurant when we don't want to cook. They do Italian and Mexican and they do them both very well. They used to have liver and onions, which was one of my favorites, but their source couldn't provide it anymore. I've had the carnitas, chili relleno and the linguine and prawns. All excellent. My wife has had the chicken piccata and the enchiladas. Highly recommend! read more
