A little hole in the wall (Latin?) restaurant that is a surprise upon walking in. It was our first time in, and we were unsure how the concept worked (a long line of food, cafeteria style, but some people were getting soup, some had multiple different portions, etc.) and there was no menu posted. We asked how it worked and they just pointed at all the foods! So we took the plunge and just asked for a lunch meal. I got rice, pork, and mixed veggies. The pork was AMAZING. It was a huge helping, all for $6 with no additional tax. After getting a diet coke, my whole lunch was $7 even and I had so much food leftover that I couldn't eat. We got our plates to go and walked across the street to enjoy at the wooden tables outside the public library. To sum it up: pretty bad service, but fantastic food! Great little place for Caribbean style food. Nice and clean, buffet style with a little bar in the corner. Large selection at the buffet and many fruit sodas. Almost every Friday when it's time for lunch I think of this place. There is one particular dish that I absolutely love which is Bacalao. The version of Cod fish is amazing. It's full of flavor, fresh fish, and the portion size is absolutely worth it. There may be a line but I assure you it's well worth the wait. I love pernil, guineos and yuca and found this close by place to get a quick small dose once a week. I get the small foil bin and the range of pricing has been from $2 -$ 5 depending on who decides to plate the food. There is a guy who recently overcharged me purposely. They are annoyed by you requesting a small portion. The styrofoam dinner plates got smaller, with same pricing and terrible service. Went there yesterday and got a chicken stew (which I think was three days old based on the review posted two days before I got my food which complained about the same thing), rice and "beans" and a beef empanada. I can't even describe the horrible stench this food had. Something compared to cooked pigs feet. Besides the taste, I literally had not one piece of meat on my chicken. It was ALL bone, fat, and skin. Which honestly due to the smell I probably couldn't even stomach it anyway. Food was room temp, beef empanada tasted days old and looked like it had been sitting for a while. I used to love this food I recently went with my husband and so many people they have at this place the are useless and rub I ask one of the ladies for hot sauce for my husband and a smoothie and she sent me to the cashier when I got their she was the same one who got there and she told me in a really bad tone you can go and sit down now and I had to remind her that she forgot my hot sauce keep in mind she told me to go and sit down because she was going to make my drink than when I sat down to eat my food she called me and made me get up to go and get the drink never again going back to this place the people are always rude and they careless about the costumers read more

Have seen sign for this latin restaurant that's set back behind City Supermarket and thought I'd give it a try after I made some grocery purchases at City Supermarket. From the name I figured they offered latin food and I was in the mood for some. The place looks fairly small from the main entrance as it's in the corner and one can't tell where the city supermarket ends and La Cocina begins but it's actually quite a large restaurant. Food looked delicious; Homemade latin soul food, if you will. Food is laid out buffet style and a server is behind counter to serve the food for you on your take-out dish or you can eat in on a regular plate. I went for lunch and they had two options for pricing. A small dish was $5.50 and a large dish was $7.50. I chose the small dish and trust me, it was plenty of food. They packed on the food without being greedy. They offered things such as white rice, yellow rice mixed with some veggies, beef, chicken and goat stews, beans, among other things. In a slightly separate section are more sides to choose from which are an additional $2. I got the maduros (sweet plantains) for the additional $2 and they gave me enough to easily feed 2 people. They also have chips and drinks. The atmosphere is lively. They had a Spanish radio station playing loud. My preschooler said it was like having a party during lunch. Looks clean. They have a big bar and three big TVs. A couple of people were having a beer at the bar. Since it was during lunch, they were busy but the line moved fast. Looked like they had their regulars there. There are a lot of tables set up to eat in. Looks like Friday nights and Saturday nights they may move some tables out of the way and some dancing may take place as I saw some DJ equipment and advertisement. Didn't ask though. Most of the customers that came in were of Spanish decent but it was also nice to see some non-Hispanics coming in for some very casual authentic latin food. I found having it buffet style was so convenient for when you're in the mood for Latin American food with good flavor and for a pretty cheap price. Told my friend about it right away as there aren't too many places I know close by that offer this kind of food buffet style. Workers were also friendly so that's certainly a plus. People seem happy here and create a happy environment. Most people took their food to go but I decided to stay in to check it out. I recommend it enough to have taken time to write this review. Seeing no on else has added this place to Yelp, I thought I should as it was a good experience. I'm glad I found this place for when I can't get to cook a Spanish meal myself (as they can be time consuming). read more

It's definitely a "hole in the wall" that can't even be seen from the street! Surprisingly spacious with plenty of tables to sit down and well staffed (btwn 7-9 employees). There was a line of approx 8 blue collar workers. It's a "poor man's restaurant" that offers Dominican Caribbean food, a good variety on their buffet (no self serve) and a very low price-$5 for a small portion that will satisfy most appetites. I've been to this place twice and each time they close at last at least an hour to two and a half hours early. Yelp says that they close at 2 am. Google maps says that they close at 8:30!! Worst experience ever! I've gone there on several occasions and the food is good and reasonably priced. So I decided to order a tray of food for a party. I put in my order, left my deposit and went about planning the rest of my party. Bit difficult to spot it without researching/direction as it is at the back side of Key Foods parking lot, rather than right on West Ave. There aren't really set menu, and you will have to call them to find out the menu of the day.
