Service was excellent, one woman was serving the whole place and she did an amazing job. Kudos to her! Space is nice, tables far apart, two levels. Definitely have to dock points for the bathrooms. The women washroom stalls swing inwards, and with the placement of the toilet paper dispenser and the toilet, I could barely get my pregnant belly into the stall, so I can't imagine if you're a larger woman or a more-pregnant person...not very accessible. We had the queso, which was really delicious, but sadly only came with three tortillas - the Jen Agg rule is to not be a dick and give a number divisible by the group at the table (so we should have gotten 4). I have to agree. The pork huaraches was the star and I highly recommend it. The "weak sauce" served on the side was right up my alley. I didn't love the fish taco, and the chicken taco was pretty good. However, the tortillas were really well made and delicious, and the variance of flavours between all items means I'd definitely be back to try some other things and get more huaraches. read more

Food was good, service was very very slow. We had the chicharrones and the queso fondido as starters and then we had some of their tacos. The food was good overall! The issue we had is the wait... but I mean... the WAIT... the place isn't that big, so there isn't that many tables, but for some reason we had to wait 45 minutes to get our starters. Ok I understand, the cheese takes 20 minutes in the oven to bake - that's fine... but what about those 25 extra minutes? During that long wait, never once has the waitress asked if we wanted something in the meantime or brought us something to compensate for the unreasonable wait... bread? Chips and salsa (like in most Mexican restaurants)??? And as other parents would understand.... waiting 45 minutes for food with a hungry 15-month old baby feels more like waiting 2 hours in sweats. We had already given her all of the cereals and applesauces and soda crackers and whatever we had on hand in the diaper bag, so she keeps quiet in her high chair while waiting 45 MINUTES for the starters to arrive... on a Monday evening... when it's not that busy... Would we go again? Probably... but we will make sure not to order anything that takes "20 minutes to bake"... unless we make sure to bring some snacks for ourselves and some board games while we wait! read more

Mexican Cuisine is one that I haven't had much chance to explore when I'm in downtown Toronto. Luckily, I came across La Chingada on Dundas Street West to discover just what Mexican cuisine has to offer in my city! This Mexican restaurant turns from a brightly lit atmosphere, to a dimly lit, fun bar feel in the night. I captured most of the bar feels during my visit in the evening for dinner - where the restaurant had dim lights and great music playing in the atmosphere. On the tables, there can be found candles lit and a nearby bar that was conveniently placed within the restaurant. I really enjoyed the wall art, it was truly a beautiful sight to behold. In addition, the whole concept of having the black curtains at the entrance gave the restaurant a strangely mysterious feeling as you entered, and unveiled a great place to chill with your friends, or have a romantic date. We were greeted kindly by the staff who took us to our tables and handed off the menu for our viewing.The waitress came by to take our orders, and she took a lot of effort to explain what the menu choices were and what she recommended us to try. The authenticity of the menu was evident, as many of the selections were Spanish and clearly described by the English descriptions. Despite having the descriptions though, the waitress was very kind to showcase what each of the sections beheld and what we should try and order during our visit that evening. After much speculation, my partner and I decided on an order with variety and we awaited our selections shortly after.This evening's variety included Fish, Chorizo and Beef Tacos, along with a Chorizo Huarache, which was basically a more open concept type of taco. Each of these were prepared on a soft taco, which I could tell was freshly made and came with a side of lime to be squeezed atop the tacos. They had also been garnished with green scallions and onions, which are my favourite! Chomping into these tacos, you can definitely taste the flavours that were carefully incorporated into it, which was truly a delicious experience. However, I would have liked the fillings to be a bit more juicy. I believe that it would have been advisable for the tacos to have some kind of dipping sauce to enhance the tastes that La Chingada was striving for!On the side as well was a Cactus Salad which was a great addition to the tacos if you're looking for a more sour and acidic taste to go with the lime. Of course Mexican cuisine incorporates as much spice as well, so we were also provided with a special Hot Sauce as well as Chinga Sauce which had a combination of both sweet and spicy flavours. Personally, I believe that the tacos truly had its quality and had great taste, however I would have liked them more if I got a side of guacamole. My partner seemed to be satisfied with the selections that we made, and both can agree that the tastes that illuminated from each taco were expressive of high quality and savoury flavours.I did find it hard to eat the Huarache, even though I was provided with a knife and fork. It was a difficult (and messy) task to cut through the Chorizo Huarache, which disheartened the dining experience for me. It could be because I'm inexperienced with the Mexican cuisine though, so keep that in mind as I'm reviewing!Overall, I would say that La Chingada was successful in providing great quality tacos, and really aimed to give an authentic, high-class dining experience. This is a great spot to visit if you're looking for a place to relax with friends or go on a pleasant date. This new joint has great staff, great food and an awesome ambience ~ ordered the Choriqueso to share (so good, highly recommend) & Chorizo Huaraches. Price is super reasonable , portions just right for us (looks small but very hearty & filling). This little gem of a restaurant has a tapas menu and also some curiously good cocktails. I tried huaraches which literally means "sandal". It's a misshapen tortilla with sausage, sauce and toppings. It was delicious, albeit a small portion. Also ordered a Chino Loco, sort of a Tom Collins. An overall pretty good treat in the Little Portugal area. Service (3/5): the waiter deserves 5/5, he was super attentive and pleasant throughout the course of our meal. However we waited 45 min to an hour for our first tacos to come out from the kitchen. Service was very slow, in fact I suspect they simply forgot about getting our food. We ordered three items and waited for more than half hour with nothing coming to our table. When we asked the guy (who was making drinks at the bar, taking orders, and running back and forth to the kitchen), he seemed surprised we even asked the question. He agreed to check with the kitchen, and came back with our food. My guess is the food was ready, but no one remembered to fetch it for us until asked.... the dishes were tasty but small-ish (tapa sized). By then we've spent almost an hour there, and it was too late to order more. (What if it takes another half hour?) La Chingada has some of the best Mexican food in all of Toronto! The vibrance of the restaurant was great, and friendly servers made the whole experience so great. The carnitas huaraches ($8/each) were really good, with the flavours of the meat, beans and que so fresco working so well with each other. The price for the two that I had ($16) was not bad, especially for the size of them and compared to other similar restaurants in Toronto. Overall my lunch at La Chingada was excellent, and I highly recommend this restaurant to anyone looking for quality Mexican food on Dundas West, or anywhere in the city of Toronto! read more

Best tacos in Toronto. Came here on a Saturday night for drinks and a bite to eat. Sat at the bar and had the server/bartender help us make decisions on food and drinks. Of the 6 tacos that were chosen for us I must say all of them were a hit we especially LOVED the Carnitas, Pastor, Carne Asada and Fish tacos. Best I've ever had. Staff was super attentive. Came here for dinner last night for the first time and was very impressed. The service was super friendly and the food was delicious! We ordered chips and quac and the carnita, barbacoa and chicken tacos. We should've listened to the reviews - the tacos are huge and loaded with meat! I ordered 2 and was not able to finish the second! They also have grilled fish tacos which is interesting as I've never seen that anywhere else. They have a patio on the street in front of the restaurant and a super cute patio in the backyard! Would recommend this restaurant to anyone - great date spot too! Went last week on Thursday to try their all you can eat Tacos. Nice hand made tortillas. I tried Beef, Carnitas, Pastor and Barbacoa. They were okish, the beef meat wasn't too good. Barbacoa was nice. Very well served with lots of meat. The salsas were in a bottle mild, medium and hot. Not very typical Mexican salsas in terms of flavour and freshness. A friend ordered a slice of Tres leches cake and something was off, the milk on it was not very good tbh so it wasn't eaten. So $19 for all you can eat, 3 tacos first and then one taco at the time. Torta Ahogada is one of Guadalajara specialties. It's fairly a small place but they have nice graffiti all inside of it. The people inside are friendly and welcoming. I love traditional Mexican food! When I saw this place I thought it looked pretty good so I gave it a try. The service was great! No complaints there. The food on the other hand was not what I expected, my daughter ordered the ceviche and at first glance it looked delicious. How ever she was not impressed. She's used to the original ceviche you know the fish, cilantro, cucumber, tomato, lime juice, onion and avocado. She described her ceviche as a cold celery soup. I ordered the taco platter, when I got the plate it looked delicious! I mean even the grilled cactus surprised me because not many people know how good it tastes. The guacamole was fresh and delicious. The platter had three types of meat asada, al pastor and chorizo. Even though the chorizo is not the same as in Mexico it's really tasty. The al pastor tacos were delicious! Hands down the closest I've had to the original, the pineapple and marinate were very well done. The asada on the other hand was full of fat and it had almost no taste. Very chewy and I could feel the oily residue left on the roof of my mouth, I had to put it aside. All in all it was a well prepared meal but still needs a little fine tuning. read more

The service here was super slow, but we were ok with that. The ordering system went down so our 8 entrees were missed and had to be re-entered and took forever, but we were ok with that. The food was decent, but not great in any way and we were ok with that. We arrived at 7 and we were attempting to leave just before 10 pm. Noone asked if we wanted a bill. When we ordered our bill and the waitress offered to split it amongst us that was great. She said she'd split our shared appetizers accordingly which was a bonus. No bill was forthcoming after 5 minutes and we could see the guy behind the bar ripping into our waitress. A few minutes of watching this guy being verbally abusive to his staff and one of us tried to ask him for the bill directly at the bar. He (apparently the manager) was mightily offended and criticized us for coming up to him saying he was dealing with it. He spent 5 minutes chastising her and bullying her until he finally provided her with an final tally that was not split up. She then paid that in full. As we finally left, the waitress was crying. What a dbag the manager was!! Safe to say there are 8 of us who won't be back. read more

I really enjoyed my experience at La Chingada. I didn't feel rushed, the waitress was friendly and helpful and the wait time for food was reasonable. I would ask them to stagger the dishes in the future though. I also appreciate that the music and noise level was reasonable (I didn't have to yell to have a conversation). Nice place to bring a date. The torta ahogada was delicious. I also enjoyed the chorizo taco....but the fish taco was too aggressively seasoned for my liking (the flavours weren't balanced and I did not enjoy the aftertaste). First review I've ever written, and I'm doing it to encourage people to visit Playa Cabana or Colibri @ General Assembly over La Chingada. Flavors were universally underwhelming. Guac didn't have enough lime, tortillas weren't salted, and all the tacos were too one-dimensional. The finely diced onions and few sprigs of cilantro didn't stand up to the meat (which was well-braised and flavorful). The "caramelized" onions weren't caramelized at all - they were wilted but had no sweetness. Tortilla also crumbled under the weight of the meat. The bean dish starter (can't remember the name) was solid. Three stars because it's not a bad spot. But there's far better Mexican in the city. read more

Let me just say this was my first time here and WOW! Went on a Sunday afternoon and it wasn't busy at all. We got our food rather quickly which is always a nice thing. I sat outside in their patio area and it was a nice place to be especially when the weather is nice! They had great Latin music playing over the speakers outside which wasn't too loud, but just loud enough that you can hear which I thought was really good. Now onto the food, I should mention that if you do go be prepared to pay anywhere from $6.50 and up PER taco. Yes that's right you order one of each if you'd like but the prices do vary depending on which taco you want. I was a little taking back when asked if the tacos come in 3's.. but sure enough they don't. To sum it all up, the tacos where absolutely delicious!! I ordered the Carnita, Carne Asada and Tinga de pollo tacos. Definitely try the Carnita and the Carne Asada ones! My sister got the fish taco and she said it was delicious as well. Highly recommended! All in all 3 tacos and a corona will run you about $30 but once you had those tacos you won't be disappointed! read more

My friend really likes this place and I am still waiting for her to take me as we have been talking about going together. We love Mexican food and had a fantastic trip to Mexico earlier this year, but the five stars is for the brilliant name...for years now, my Colombian husband has been sending me and others "to the chingada" when he gets in a foul mood.
