    Ranchero breakfast
    Michelle M.

I've been here several times for lunch and dinner. I just tried it first breakfast and was so impressed! We had the ranchero breakfast and Chilaquiles. Both were delicious. The fresh carrot juice was amazing. Service was great and quick. They were so busy too. Can't wait to go back.

Let me start off by saying that I have visited the Burnham location quite a few times in the past. I've been to the Dyer location about 3 occasions that I can recall. I like that the menu is the same and the cooking is consistent. In Dyer, I'll say that it's as close to Mexican home cooking as you can get. My usual go to is the stuffed shrimp wrapped in bacon. This dish is my safe zone. I've had their Seafood Parrillada and and Mixed Parrillada. Parrilladas are smalls grills brought out to your table with your choice of protein. I was there last Saturday and went for something different. Since they specialize in Cecina, I decided to go with Cecina Campesina. The sauce on this dish is really good. From what I saw and tasted, it's a red sauce with cactus. Everything in the dish feels fresh. The beans taste fresh. Everything is seasoned generously but not overpowering. The sauce had a nice spicy kick but not overbearing. Many dishes, including this one, are served with homemade and handmade tortillas. They usually provide salsa and chips. The salsa looks and rates like itMs freshly made and ground in the Molcajete. Prices are very reasonable. Yes, you can find good Mexican food in Dyer! Please check this business out and form your own thoughts.

I've been to another LaCecina in Calumet City, and I've been to this one before also. The Cal City one is awesome, but when this location opened, i was unimpressed. The food was bland, the salsa had no flavor or heat. Things have changed here!! The server was friendly, fast and attentive. She was constantly buzzing about asking what we needed. THE FOOD: The salsa was tasty, smokey jalapenos skin in it for tremendous flavor, cilantro and onion is awesome. For entree I ordered the Cecina Campesina, which is Grilled flank steak covered with a sauce made from nopales (cactus), onion, tomato, cilantro, whole beans, and cheese. The mix of flavors in the dish I find irresistible. The tenderness of nopales with the beans and cheese and meat is superb. I could eat two or three platefuls. A small salad of lettuce, cucumber, and radish is small, but bright and tasty with a squirt of lime. The spanish rice is delicious, also. They put carrots and, at times peas in it. Great stuff. Their tortillas are made right there, too. My dining companions had the Caldo de Camarones (Shrimp Soup), and Ranchero Breakfast which they were delighted with. This place is authentic Mexican, and gets my stamp of approval!!

How do you confuse a carne charra meal with this.... NEVER ONCE, DID I ORDER IT WITH FRIES!

This... is absolutely ridiculous! People, do not waste your money going to a place that will just provide horrible customer service! And to the establishment, its really disgusting that you all can be heard talking trash about the customers when you go back to the kitchen plus I know when my wife is being insulted, I speak fluent Spanish, and I have never been more mortified or embarrassed and so disgusted to dine at a place where they provide horrible customer service.

Chips and Salsa. Chips were standard, salsa was Amazing and served warm.

I had the Peach Smoky Old Fashioned and a Caesar salad with crispy salmon. The cocktail was crafted with care, and I loved watching Morgan prepare the smoky Old Fashioned with such attention to detail. The salmon was perfectly seasoned and crispy, it was a great add on to my ceasar salad so delicious - kudos to the chef!! What stood out most was the hospitality. Morgan made me feel comfortable as I relaxed, read my book, and enjoyed my meal. She was personable, attentive, and created a welcoming atmosphere that even led to great conversations with other guests at the bar. Thank you, Morgan and Steph, for making my first time sitting at the bar such a memorable experience. I can't wait to come back!

The restaurant represents as a tribute to Chicago, and the price is definitely reflect that. We decided to go there yesterday and sit in the outdoor bar area for my husband's birthday. We got there at the tail end of happy hour and we were able to order one drink each at a reduced price. My husband ordered the Thai chicken bowl and I ordered the buffalo cauliflower bowl. Both dishes were absolutely delicious, as were the drinks. The ambience makes you feel like you are at an Oceanside resort. The presentation of the food was a very pleasing aesthetic. We enjoyed our visit and will definitely be back

Our waiter, Tony, was friendly, personable, and very attentive. He was definitely one of the highlights of our visit. Unfortunately, the rest of our experience was disappointing. One thing that immediately stood out was our seating. The restaurant had plenty of empty tables, yet my fiancé and I were seated directly behind another Black family. Looking around, it appeared that the Black guests were being seated together. I didn't say anything at the time because I didn't want to make assumptions or cause an issue, but it made me uncomfortable. For dinner, I ordered the lamb chops with lobster bisque and double mashed potatoes. My fiancé ordered the porterhouse steak with a salad and double mashed potatoes. We also shared the lobster macaroni and cheese. The bread and lobster bisque were filling, but the lobster macaroni and cheese was a huge disappointment. It was runny, lacked flavor, and tasted like boxed macaroni that had just come off the stove. I took my entrée home, hoping it would taste better the next day. Unfortunately, it didn't. The mashed potatoes were bland, and the lamb chops were mostly fat with very little meat. The final straw was finding a long silver hair in the lobster macaroni and cheese. To make matters worse, there were also fettuccine noodles mixed in with the macaroni, which made me question the attention to detail in the kitchen. At that point, I threw everything away. Overall, this was a very expensive meal that did not live up to the price or expectations. Aside from Tony's excellent service and the beautiful exterior, the food quality and overall experience left me extremely disappointed. We won't be returning. Next time, we'll gladly make the drive into Chicago for food that is better prepared and better worth the money.

The wine list covers most regions, though noticeably missing any Zinfandels. Service was good overall, but substitutions are clearly discouraged, which may be a drawback for some diners. Appetizers lean heavily toward seafood, with a salad and brochette rounding out the options. They also offer rotating egg rolls; we tried the gyros version, which was flavorful but on the pricey side. The main menu isn't extensive, yet every major category is represented. Our fillets were cooked as ordered, and the baked potatoes were standard. However, the presentation was underwhelming--the filet looked quite bare on a large plate, with watery meat juice that didn't add much appeal. Desserts include a wide variety of cakes and cream‑cheese‑based options, though there's no crème brûlée or key lime pie for those who prefer classics. All in all, the experience and pricing were reminiscent of the now‑closed Gino's, though it doesn't quite reach the same level of execution. Still, it offers a solid night out with a few standout elements and a few areas that could use refinement.

On my second visit a year later, I decided to give it another shot--this time opting for the traditional version instead of the smoked one. It was better, but still only average at best. It was also served warm, and the ice melted quickly, suggesting the glass or drink wasn't properly chilled. The martini was also underwhelming--it tasted mostly like juice, with little to no noticeable alcohol. As for the food, the starters were definitely the highlight. The French onion soup was actually very good. However, the main courses didn't live up to expectations. I ordered the steak medium rare, but it came out closer to medium well--overcooked and under-seasoned. The chicken Vesuvio was also disappointing; the sauce tasted like it came from a jar, and neither it nor the rice stood out in any meaningful way. On a positive note, the ambiance was very nice. The lighting created a pleasant atmosphere, and the staff was friendly and attentive throughout the meal. Overall, while the setting and service were enjoyable, the food and drinks didn't justify a return visit.
