    Ranchero breakfast
    Michelle M.

I've been here several times for lunch and dinner. I just tried it first breakfast and was so impressed! We had the ranchero breakfast and Chilaquiles. Both were delicious. The fresh carrot juice was amazing. Service was great and quick. They were so busy too. Can't wait to go back.

Let me start off by saying that I have visited the Burnham location quite a few times in the past. I've been to the Dyer location about 3 occasions that I can recall. I like that the menu is the same and the cooking is consistent. In Dyer, I'll say that it's as close to Mexican home cooking as you can get. My usual go to is the stuffed shrimp wrapped in bacon. This dish is my safe zone. I've had their Seafood Parrillada and and Mixed Parrillada. Parrilladas are smalls grills brought out to your table with your choice of protein. I was there last Saturday and went for something different. Since they specialize in Cecina, I decided to go with Cecina Campesina. The sauce on this dish is really good. From what I saw and tasted, it's a red sauce with cactus. Everything in the dish feels fresh. The beans taste fresh. Everything is seasoned generously but not overpowering. The sauce had a nice spicy kick but not overbearing. Many dishes, including this one, are served with homemade and handmade tortillas. They usually provide salsa and chips. The salsa looks and rates like itMs freshly made and ground in the Molcajete. Prices are very reasonable. Yes, you can find good Mexican food in Dyer! Please check this business out and form your own thoughts.

I've been to another LaCecina in Calumet City, and I've been to this one before also. The Cal City one is awesome, but when this location opened, i was unimpressed. The food was bland, the salsa had no flavor or heat. Things have changed here!! The server was friendly, fast and attentive. She was constantly buzzing about asking what we needed. THE FOOD: The salsa was tasty, smokey jalapenos skin in it for tremendous flavor, cilantro and onion is awesome. For entree I ordered the Cecina Campesina, which is Grilled flank steak covered with a sauce made from nopales (cactus), onion, tomato, cilantro, whole beans, and cheese. The mix of flavors in the dish I find irresistible. The tenderness of nopales with the beans and cheese and meat is superb. I could eat two or three platefuls. A small salad of lettuce, cucumber, and radish is small, but bright and tasty with a squirt of lime. The spanish rice is delicious, also. They put carrots and, at times peas in it. Great stuff. Their tortillas are made right there, too. My dining companions had the Caldo de Camarones (Shrimp Soup), and Ranchero Breakfast which they were delighted with. This place is authentic Mexican, and gets my stamp of approval!!

How do you confuse a carne charra meal with this.... NEVER ONCE, DID I ORDER IT WITH FRIES!

This... is absolutely ridiculous! People, do not waste your money going to a place that will just provide horrible customer service! And to the establishment, its really disgusting that you all can be heard talking trash about the customers when you go back to the kitchen plus I know when my wife is being insulted, I speak fluent Spanish, and I have never been more mortified or embarrassed and so disgusted to dine at a place where they provide horrible customer service.

Chips and Salsa. Chips were standard, salsa was Amazing and served warm.

The Mundo was good, but should offer 2 size bowls. And the kitchen needs to stop burning the flour tortillas. Otherwise good.

Torta de milanesa, the best torta around. I've been eating there for many years and this torta is always fresh and never skimpy.

I use to eat there every weekend until a roach came out of my chip bowl! Just can't anymore! Shame! 3/15/22 was the day.

The service has always been poor, going back to the days when they were in the Highland Ultra. Every location, old and new Lansing and Dyer the same way. Always been slow, never friendly. I went there from time to time because it tasted like the food I grew up with. I have reduced my visits over the years to about once a year. I went this time because it was on the way to my destination. I pre-ordered with a lot of time before my arrival. So the food was ready. The same sour lady mentioned in other reviews gave me my order and took the payment. I have walked out previously when this lady was at the counter because she seemed really put out that I came in and was ordering food. My destination was 5 minutes away so that is when I started eating. Discovering the tasteless, small steak burrito was disappointing. It was the amount of grease dripping out of it that made the burrito really bad. The chicken torta had the same issues. So, I'm done. Too many other decent options in the area now to put up with the bad.

They were busy so there wasn't much of being checked in on, which is fine, I understand. When it came up to go pay. We proceeded to go pay and noticed that I was being charged a "fee" for using a debit card. Up to my current knowledge a debit card is not to be charged a "fee" like a credit card (could regulations/laws have changed and I was unaware absolutely). So then I proceeded to ask the lady why a "fee" was being charged on a debit card. She then proceeded to state that their system has always been doing it and that she has been there for the last 10 years. I have been going to this restaurant for about the last 10ish years and not once seen this person before. This person proceeded to become rude and blatantly nasty. I called her out on it and said "damn, you're rude" She proceeded to say "I don't care" and continued to repeat "I don't care" throughout the whole interaction, rather than try to come to a calm solution/explanation. For someone who works in a restaurant or a business I think that's highly unprofessional to be completely honest. I then proceeded to ask if there was someone above her who I could speak to about this for which she stated " God is above me". I responded to her saying absolutely "God is above all of us". She continued to be nasty and rude throughout the whole interaction. Another employee tried to come in, intervene, and help with the situation but she just gave the worker an attitude and told him to stay out of it. We ended up just paying it and whatever. As we walked out, she proceeded to tell us "Just f**cking leave". To add to this, during the interaction she proceeded to inform us this was her second time of the day arguing with someone. We absolutely left after we had paid. It's very unfortunate that a restaurant that I have loved going to for the last decade of my life I will no longer be going to. This all occurred because of one rude/nasty interaction with whom I believe to be a newer employee. I truly wonder what happened to the ownership here because the owner's son was always so polite, kind, approachable, and always went out of his way to interact with this customers.
