How did I forget to write this review? I've literally had nightmares about this place. Maybe I was raging to so many people I assumed I already told everyone. My friend recommended this place to me (shame on him). I never doubt him on Mexican restaurants (he's 100% Mexican himself)!!! Apparently it used to be good. That's what many people have told me. He even suggested we leave and head somewhere else shortly after being seated. One day I'll learn to listen to my gut. The bartender was literally spraying Raid ALL OVER the bar as we sat down. I was choking!!! I don't even want to know why she needed so much Raid! I ordered steak fajitas thinking it would be safest. It wasn't brought out on a skillet. It was all thrown together on a room temperature plate. It looked like it was made the previous day. It was awful!! We took 2 bites of our food and left to eat somewhere else. It was disgusting! This place has quickly become a family favorite of ours. They have a very diverse menu with a very large and quite good seafood selection. They have different platters that come to the table on a hot table called a paradilla. It was INCREDIBLE. I also have a number of food allergies, and they have always gone out of their way to accommodate me, right down to making a fresh pico de gallo as I am allergic to hot peppers. They also make their own corn tortillas. I do not drink, however I have seen the margaritas and they look and smell wonderful! Addition: The last time I was there I had the snapper grilled with garlic... I have only had one better and it was in Puerta Vallarta! Wonderful! It's unbelievable for anyone to think this is a good Mexican restaurant. We decided to have dinner here based on the reviews from Yelp. What a mistake. First off parking is bad. Street parking until you walk in and see a sign that says you can park across the street in the CVS lot. I guess if you're a mind reader you'd know that. The inside looks decent. We were seated in a booth. I ordered a margarita. There's only one size, small. Koolaid would of been stronger then this margarita. They must think these stupid gringos won't know what a margarita tastes like. All it was, was basically cheap margarita with mix and no tequila. I ordered shrimp fajitas and my wife ordered chicken quesadillas. My wife's plate came with excessive sour cream on all her food not on the side like it should of been. My fajitas came on a plate. No sizzling platter like fajitas are supposed to be on. And the shrimp still had the tails on them! I bit into a taco I made only to find this out. The worst part about this restaurant is the service. Service totally sucks here. No refills, no "how is everything ", forgot the jalapeños I asked for. The waiter was unfriendly and always in a big hurry even though the restaurant wasn't crowded. The only part we thought was good were the tortillas and the chips and salsa. The salsa was served warm and had the right amount of kick to it. Overall this place was terrible. We left zero tip. I would never come back again. Recently, visited this location with my family and was terribly disappointed. We arrive and take are seats when we order are food it was sub par. My sisters order was delayed for over 10 minutes due to the fact that they ran out of milanesa like who runs out of milanesa? Any way the prices are outrageous and they even charge for an extra plate! With no food on it. Much nicer experience than expected. Went there for lunch today and was pleasantly surprised. I had the Pico de Gallo and loved it. The staff was friendly, but that was the only thing good about this place. I ordered the grilled shrimp which was decent, but made me feel sick to my stomach when I got home, my banana milkshake was watered down and barely had any banana in it. This place has really become one of the premier Mexican restaurants in Northwest Indiana. The menu is definitely more authentic than most places, so if you're unfamiliar with a lot of authentic Mexican dishes, you might be confused looking at the 20 chicken options, the 20 steak options, and allll those seafood options. This is our second time eating here. The first time the food was okay. I think we paid too much for a large Shake that was supposed to be banana but wasn't. This second time we ordered enchiladas and a burrito with ground beef. When we get home the ground beef has a weird taste and my wife said it didn't quite smell right so needless to say we did not eat it and just put it in the freezer for garbage day. Well how should I start we sat down the waitress was just so unfriendly and never smiled an older lady she was, she assumed we spoke Spanish and continued to take our order in Spanish as I spoke to her in English next we got our menus she for our drinks then she bought our chips and sauce and never brought us back our drinks until another 10 minutes then she came back for our order she took it and asked for more chips never received them food was brought to us but never no chips so one plate had sour cream and asked for it it was never brought to us as she walked past us 4 times the food was brought to is and it looked horrible so long story short the service and food is horrible!!! read more

I came here with my wife, she loves Mexican food and we wanted to try a new place. We were thrown off by the salsa. It had a real strong tomato paste taste and was warm. Wasn't the best. I ordered a sangria and the fruit in it was chopped up so small it was hard to drink through a straw. When I ordered my drink, I asked for a glass of water. I had to ask a couple times until I got it. Most restaurant bring you a water to start with. I had the burrito suizo dinner with chicken. The food was pretty good. Excuse me while I boast about my new favorite restaurant. La Cecina is EASILY the best Mexican restaurant of the Region. Everything about this restaurant make me happy. They serve freshly blended juices and Mexican drinks. The food beautiful. The colors are bright and the presentation is tidy as well as generous. The menu is wide and has more "deep tracks" than the average Mexican restaurant of the Region. Their specialty is cecina (marinated, pounded sheets of beef). They have whole fish, the fried Veracruz style huachinango was amazing. They even serve criadillas (bull testicles). The tortillas, chips, and salsa are homemade to perfection. I love that they put big diced potatoes and carrots in their rice. It seems the food was prepared by an inspired person who loves to cook. The booths are very roomy, the atmosphere is casual and clean. They have a full bar with many tequilas, Mexican beers and mixed drinks. Why aren't you there now? read more

Since moving back to NWI in late 2015, my wife and I were on the lookout for a spot to grab a good taco and a cold beer. The Queso Fundido con Chorizo is second to none in my opinion at least as far as NWI is concerned. The chips and salsa are great and pack just the right amount of heat. I love the homemade Corn Tortillas but wouldn't mind if they started making homemade Flour Tortilla's but if that happened I may never go anywhere else lol. The selection of Mexican Beers onsite are nice as I tend to gravitate towards Modelo (Can) or Bohemia. This place is authentic and staff is friendly. They even changed the TV from Futbol Mexicano to Futbol Americano and we watched the Notre Dame vs MSU game that night. Love it here!! And I am usually very picky with my Mexican restaurants since I am Mexican myself. (Usually I tell people the best Mexican food is in Mexico). This place is really good though. The staff is friendly and I can't get enough of the home made tortillas. They need to staff more people though, at least on the weekends.
