They are now out of Snicker's cheesecake or baked potatoes now. Ok. No appetizers on their menu. Huh. Ordered ahead an Oreo cheesecake and a 4 berry pie, since they seem to be runny out of stuff quickly. Ordered turkey Reuben melt with upgraded onion ring side, special crab stuffed whitefish, blackened. They are out of whitefish. Ended up ordering two turkey Reubens, since nothing else appealed to me. The other side is salad for my sandwich. Added one scoop of the stuffing to check it out, since it looks decent. No gravy. $58.77 They must have run out of the crab stuffed whitefish after we were seated, since it wasn't taken off of the special board while we were in line. Pay at the front. They refuse Amex cards. Not good. Good thing I had an extra card. The side salad is a mix of iceberg and mixed green. The Italian dressing is quite orange. Side salad is not special, but it gives a small balance to the heavy food to come. The rye bread is really good, can really taste the bread, nice crunch to it. The turkey meat is oven roasted dinner turkey slices, not the deli stuff. It's a good turkey Rueben. The hand dipped onion rings are good, nice and crispy. Some excess batter that neither of us wanted on our rings and picked off the excess fried batter from the rings. The stuffing is pretty good, a tad too salty, but still good. The kind I like for sure. The Oreo cheesecake wasn't too bad. The 4 berry pie was good, the berry filling was really good on its own. Decent food and really good service. I feel absolutely blah after every meal while in the UP. Tonight is no different.

The Farmer's Table is conveniently located just off the Wolverine, MI exit of I-75. It looks like it may have once been a gas station; very unassuming building with a huge parking lot for all sorts of vehicles, trucks and RV's. Once you step inside, the magic happens. Cute and cozy, filled with charming little tables and a mercantile area, the friendly staff will greet you and make you feel at home. Their menu is varied with many entrees made from locally sourced ingredients. This concept feels fresh and healthy, though the entrees themselves feel like grandma's cooking. Not fancy or trendy, but hearty, flavorful home cooking. My husband chose a pork chop, baked potato, corn and side salad. The photo of the pork chop looks juicy and tender; it was just that. He said it was the best pork chop he's ever had. The apple glaze was really good. I chose the chicken cordon blue, to sample something I would not make at home. It was rich, a tad salty yet very good. The side corn was amazing, as was the apple slaw. Next time I'll ask for mashed potatoes without the dark gravy. We took a small fried raspberry pie for dessert on the road and enjoyed mulling the through their homemade bakery items. The prices were very reasonable. We will be making this stop a regular on our way up north. Look forward to trying their brunch items, which get raved reviews.

They were kind enough to give us each a different dressings. We also split the hot beef sandwich. It was tender, shredded pot roast with jarred or packaged gravy ( still blobs of the mix on the plate) served on white bread. The meat was very tasty. Rustic mashed potatoes ( skin on) and a bowl of corn were the sides. Amish fruit hand pies and frozen meats from a farm along with jars of pickles, fruits and dressings were available for sale in a small market inside the restaurant.

I just wanted a little (big) glass of red wine and something sweet to cap off the night, and I left satisfied. Key lime pie was the special dessert of the day, so that's what I got. I can't pass up a special dessert that's here today, but might be gone tomorrow. The kitchen didn't just give me a slice of pie: They dusted my plate with powdered sugar in the shape of a horse! It's these little touches that make all the difference, and you can tell that they're not horsing around here. (Or maybe they are?) My glass of Cabernet was great, and I was told that the beer was great, too. They were very busy, considering it was the end of the season. Nevertheless, we got a seat right away, and the service was great. If you visit Seabiscuit Cafe during the evening, you'll see that it's a cozy little spot with dim lighting, where you can relax and have a meal (or just drinks and dessert, like me).

Loved every bite of what we ordered- Painted pony macaroni, Whitefish Reuben and Pasta Primavera. If we visit Mackinac Island again, Seabiscuit for sure will be our first choice for food.

The mushroom soup was just okay. There was too much pepper in the soup. The hot toddy was a good drink. The elk meatloaf was just okay. The bbq sauce was a little too sweet. The mushroom pasta was not good at all. It was so unbelievably bland. Over $40 for the most bland pasta I've ever had. I am not sold at this point in coming back. Again, the service was amazing! We have been dining at Bennethum's for 15+ years based on all of these. The best upscale, (but not pretentious) option in the Gaylord area. Josh and his family go the extra mile to insure their guests feel welcome and receive great service. On our most recent visit, I had the Perch, a menu staple. Always fresh, lightly dusted and flash fried, nice portion and great flavor. Accompanied with jasmine rice and green beans. My wife had the BNI Blue Wedge Salad, blue cheese dressing , applewood smoked bacon, tomatoes, onion, with shrimp added for protein. Shrimp were plump, juicy and flavorful. And a meal is not complete without a loaf of their BNI bread. :) Great cocktails, warm ambiance. Be sure to check them out when in Gaylord area.
