Lots of prepared food items in here…read more I wanted to eat a ton of food here, had it make it a quick trip so I wouldn't buy more food than I would be able to eat, plus we have no fridge in our hotel to keep the food. If you want a environmentally conscious, casual breakfast and lunch place without artificial…read moreadditives this is your spot. It is a fun location with plenty of seating, bright ambience and friendly staff. There is a parking lot out the back or street parking which is harder to find but doable. There are some options like smoothies and other 'healthy' choices which is what attracted us to drive over and try it out. Sadly given that I am vegan I found there to be very limited choices. The menu says vegan and gluten free options available but from I could tell only two things could be made vegan. It was disappointing but if we had really studied the menu I might have been more prepared. My husband tried the special of an olive filled cheese with Brussels sprout slaw which he throughly enjoyed. He said the olives were tangy and led to a great balance with the feta. It was a small portion so I shared with him so might not satisfy some for lunch. I ordered the power bowl with curried cauliflower, rice, sweet potatoes, avocados and black beans. It was pretty good but as I didn't want the cream (forgot to ask for vegan option but coconut yogurt was potentially available) it was not as creamy as possible. I think a cashew cream would have been the best option. The potato salad side was pretty bland as well, so not the best choice. I had to add tons of pepper to season it, which I try to never do but go with the chefs preference. Not an option here. My suggestion would be to have one totally vegan you don't have to ask to change anything option so as to be welcoming to those of us 'crazies' as in a new spot it is just hard to catch all the subtleties of menus. It reminded me of a healthy version of Panera to be honest. Good but not my first choice. Thus my 3 stars as if you are going to tout yourself as the healthy option then make more room for those doing optional lifestyles.

This was not simply a disappointing dining experience--it was a clear example of how a lack of…read moreservice standards, compounded by an even more concerning management response, can undermine an otherwise capable establishment. To start with what was done well: the food was very good, and my request for a table with a view was honored. The kitchen is evidently not the issue. The service, however, was unacceptable. I would rate it a 0 out of 10 without hesitation. Our server, Maddison, did not introduce herself, did not offer recommendations, and made no attempt to guide or elevate the experience. The only initial interaction was, "What can I get for you?"--and that tone carried throughout the evening. There was no presence, no attentiveness, and no effort to deliver even baseline hospitality. We were seated, served, and effectively ignored. On multiple occasions, our server made direct eye contact with our table and chose not to approach. That is not a subtle oversight--it is a visible lapse in service. There is a clear distinction between giving space and neglecting guests, and this fell firmly into the latter. I also ordered a non-alcoholic Bloody Mary. While pricing is understood and not in question, the value of the overall experience did not come close to justifying what was charged--because service is a fundamental part of that value. What is most telling, however, is what happened next. Rather than immediately posting publicly, I extended the professional courtesy of addressing this privately with management. My message was clear, measured, and rooted in industry understanding. I explicitly stated that my concern was service--not pricing, not food quality. The response I received was defensive from the outset. I was told the server is "introverted," "passive," and new. That may explain behavior, but it does not excuse it. Guests are not there to adapt to staff limitations; the business is responsible for maintaining standards regardless of who is on the floor. I was then told my experience was a matter of "interpretation," as though repeated lack of engagement and visible neglect are subjective rather than observable. This kind of deflection speaks volumes. Most concerning was the claim that my message was "blackmail-ish," implying I was attempting to leverage a complaint for compensation. This is categorically false. At no point did I make a demand. Referencing potential resolutions is standard practice in hospitality--not a threat. Choosing to handle concerns privately before going public is professionalism, not coercion. That distinction was either misunderstood or intentionally misrepresented. The final response made it clear that management "disagrees," considers the matter closed, and believes the complaint to be without merit. I was also asked to cease communication. At that point, the issue was no longer just poor service--it was a complete breakdown in accountability. This is not a question of opinion versus opinion. It is a question of whether fundamental service standards are being upheld, and whether guest feedback is taken seriously when it is delivered respectfully and in good faith. The food may bring guests in, but service--and how a business responds when it falls short--is what determines whether they return. In this case, both failed.

Located close to downtown Petoskey, Palette Bistro offers views of the lake from their back porch, indoor seating, and a nice front patio. We were seated out front and greeted promptly by our friendly server. We started the meal with the crab cakes, and I decided on a farmer's pasta with salmon as my entree. In between we had fresh bread with a sweet balsamic and olive oil for dipping. Our server was fantastic. Appropriately attentive, and going the extra mile to help grab things for kiddo (like a coloring sheet and mug full of crayons), to make sure that everyone enjoyed the meal. The ambiance is relaxed and definitely a vacation vibe, and we enjoyed winding down our day that way. If you're in the area and need a place to grab dinner, Palette Bistro deserves a spot on your list!

Oh how I wish this place would have been better. It's a…read morecute place and our server did a great job overall. Those are the highlights. My friend ordered the kabob dinner and said it was good...but over $20 for some veggies is crazy. My gyro and truffle fries....honestly I should have just sent them back. This is one of the most disappointing meals I've had recently. They put a tomato paste on it that I almost requested without, but trusted it would be interesting. It literally tasted like cheap canned tomato paste. Gross and certainly doesn't blend well on a gyro. The lamb meat itself had a decent taste, but the way it is served makes it difficult to eat in a pita. Gyros are typically chopped or shaved lamb which makes it easier to eat and helps ensure you're getting more lamb per bite. Served in these strips, it was just falling apart and not blending with the feta. The fries...terrible. Just terrible. $6 to sub truffle fries which seems like too much but I hadn't had them in a long time so had to go for it. Listed in subs it simply says truffle fries, so I didn't know they were going to be covered in liquid cheese. They ARE listed in appetizers with the full description but I didn't look there until after bc I didn't order an appetizer. The cheese was awful, completely overwhelmed the TINY bit of truffle taste, and SO salty! Take a look at the picture and decide for yourself if the gyro and fries is worth $23. I eat a lot of gyros, and this being the most expensive one I've had is the worst. Heads up that they charge a service fee. Doesn't bother me as I always tip at least 20% but no one pointed that out and I'm not really sure what it's for. Does that go into the servers pocket or? Won't be going back to find out.

But after we were seated, we indulged with whatever we wanted on the menu. We had two or three drinks each. We didn't take advantage of a lunch menu special.
