Stopped in on a Sunday for lunch with friends. There were 7 of us, and we were easily seated right away. The dining room is large, clean, well-lit, and adorned with Mexican colors and decor. Our server came by a short time later, and after reviewing the menu, I decided on the shrimp tacos with a side of rice and beans. The shrimp tacos came out, and they were served on flour tortillas stuffed with 3 jumbo shrimp, perfectly seasoned, and topped with lettuce. The rice and beans were hot, seasoned perfectly and delicious. I had to ask for a doggie bag because with the two tacos, I couldn't finish all the rice and beans. This is hands-down the best Mexican restaurant in Manitowoc County! We met friends here for lunch on a Sunday. We were able to secure a table for 7. It didn't take me long to decide on the fajita taco salad. This is like a taco salad except with fajita meat instead of taco meat. The steak was cooked tender in thin strip. The peppers, onions, and tomatoes were grilled tender without being overcooked. It was all seasoned perfectly and placed on top of a bed of lettuce in a deep fried tortilla bowl. The salad was topped with cheese, sour cream, and guacamole. I got some Pico de Gallo as well. This was a huge salad. The tortilla bowl did fall apart but was rasty none the less. I'll be back to try more things from the menu. read more

Truly a great place for Mexican food in Manitowoc. Came here a little later for dinner, were quickly sat and serviced with a larger group, which was appreciated. While I was not drinking, my companions all got the supreme margaritas and everyone enjoyed them. They were super great about keeping our chips and salsa flowing with that red salsa being really delicious. I'm a bit a typical eater at Mexican place and went with my old stand by, shrimp quesadilla, and it was delicious. The shrimps were cooked perfectly, and with plenty of rice and beans to boot, it was a stupendous meal. But, every once in a while, when I'm talked into it, I will venture out and eat some food from south of the boarder. I have to say, that if I'm near home, that this is the place I will choose. I do really like their nachos. As an appetizer or a meal, I feel that you can't go wrong. Service is almost always fast (except now that we are on Covid time... things have changed). Decent Mexican restaurant. Reasonable prices. Drink specials Monday-Thursday. Really good guacamole. The menu is extensive, almost too extensive (makes choosing stressful). I struggled between 3 and 4 stars. I come here occasionally, but today's food was not as delicious as I remember from previous visits. The burrito fajita was tasty, but a bit runny. The shrimp in the shrimp tacos was fantastic, but there was too much onion, which was overpowering. I expected a better margarita for $6 (tasted like the premixed ones sold in liquor stores - I mentioned this to the staff). Casa Mexico in Two Rivers does not need to worry. read more

My first review was from La Casa Mexico in Two Rivers, mistake, they're goo too. But La Carreta is tops! Both have delicious food, but La Carreta has better prices, and ALWAYS fresh tasting food. We drive a bit further to come here because of that. They also occasionally have a live Mexican band! Food is fast, FRESH, and reasonably priced! Great assorted flavored margaritas too. My husband and I had dinner here this past Sunday night. I was excited to try it, as I haven't been since they changed ownership. I will say the decor and cleanliness are much nicer, and our server was very kind to us. That said, I am really sorry to say the food was entirely lacking. While my husband enjoyed his frozen mango margarita (a foursquare tip), and the red wine was decent - yeah.. the food... The salsa they give you has very little flavor, and no heat at all. It reminded me of salsas I ate at numerous 'Texmex' or 'Mexican' restaurants in NYC. We split a 'special' plate as it sounded (and was) huge: 1 tamale, 1 enchilada (ground beef), 1 beef taco, 1 chalupa, 1 chili relleno, rice and beans. My husband basically tasted everything before I did with an excited "Well this is!!" and then a quiet "...no" and finally "I'll just let you taste for yourself." Basically it felt that the flavors of everything were watered down to tasting like almost nothing. Even my much beloved refried beans were lacking their normal, charming, rich flavor. The enchilada was bland, the tamale was somehow 'ok', and as I read already about the taco from someone complaining on Tripadvisor that it was 'only ground beef and lettuce' (well yeah so, that's pretty typical?) it was extremely greasy - like grease running out every time you took a bite, which lended the only flavor this taco had. The chalupa, being a bean and cheese chalupa, didn't fair much better than the refried beans. The chili relleno was the only thing that had any discernible flavor - but that was attributed to the sauce (It seemed very similar to the spicier sauce brought out for me) than the pepper or the cheese it was filled with. I'd also ordered sides of pico and guac - the pico seemed fresh but nothing to write home about, and the guac was very heavy on the lemon - probably as a preservative. I hate to give this place such a shabby review, as we were initially excited by the meal being only $12 and the waiter being friendly... but then, I guess when it comes to food, you get what you pay for... I stumbled into this place as part of the Open Air Tours convertible tour event in Manitowoc. I chose to sample Mexican from a couple venues while here. This place gets my vote for best. It was simple, flavorful food served efficiently with great hospitality. While here I enjoyed the steak quesadilla. It was huge, rich and indulgent. Add a side of guac to take it over the top! I enjoyed it with chips, salsa, rice and beans. My meal was excellent, thoughtful and satisfying. It's a reason to go to Manitowoc in a convertible. I will return! read more

I have come here on average of once a month for the past year or so, and it always is a well rounded experience. Atmosphere: Needs a bit of love, some of the booths move and have rips in them and the floor is pretty grungy. The bathrooms need some TLC ASAP. Random Mexican memorabilia decorates the restaurant. Sometimes in summer they have a mariachi band if you are into that sort of thing. Location: Good amount of parking. They have a nice area to dine outside at in the summer, it is on a busy road so the ambiance isn't the most amazing but there is plenty of room for larger groups to enjoy the patio. Service: Very attentive and speedy. If you order food, be prepared to be eating it within 10 minutes of ordering or less (unless you are in a large group). Drinks/Food: Great margaritas. They have a deal Monday through Thursday 4-7 p.m. for $2.99 margaritas. HUGE tequila selection. Food is great, I've maybe been disappointed once? Twice? And that was only because my rice and beans were cold. The actual entrée is always superb. Great enchilada selection. Actually, the menu is huge, if you like Mexican food, you will be able to find something on this menu I guarantee it. I have been here a handful of times and have yet to have a bad experience. The inside of the restaurant is covered in colorful, bright decorations that just make the atmosphere that much more enjoyable. I have never had an issue with waitstaff, they are always very attentive and friendly. The food is priced reasonably and the portions are large. My recommendation? Any burrito on the menu! The only thing I am not overly keen on is their chorizo, and it's just something in the spices. Doesn't mean you wouldn't like it! The complimentary salsa that comes with your chips is pretty tasty too. The one piece that keeps this restaurant from getting 5 stars is that I think some of the dishes could be more flavorful. Came in on a Saturday afternoon for lunch, and had the beef chimichangas. The place was clean and quiet, and the staff was friendly and attentive. The beef was shredded and not ground, which was a plus. The pico and guac in addition to the normal rice beans lettuce and sour cream was a nice surprise. The margarita was nice and big, and they had Mexican Coke. My only complaint would be that the salsa did lack some heat, I usually like to have both hot and mild salsas at the table. read more

I don't care about bad service if the food is good however it wasn't. The food wasn't fresh at all. The chips weren't homemade the sales was running and flavorless.
