I love this place. The food is excellent and the customer service is wonderful. If you like authentic Mexican this is a keeper. Coated across the street is McDonald's. U can also dine out in the coutyard. read more

We have driven past here for a year since moving to town. Today we stopped in for lunch. I was impressed with the authentic decor. There is Mexican background music plating too. My wife and I decided to split a carne asada chimianga meal. This is a huge asada chimi deep-fried and topped with crema. It comes with a side of Mexican rice and refried pinto beans. The asada in the chimi was very moist and tasty. It had a bold flavor, but not in a spicy way. It's as if the carne had been slow simmered in the asada sauce for a very long time. This was the best chimianga ever. read more

El Alamo Mexican Grill - Mexican Near Me - Manitowoc, Wisconsin

Hidden gem indeed! This is a Mexican family restaurant that's keeping it real. When I walked in the family was sitting around the table. They waved me in and told me to sit were ever I wanted very friendly and inviting. The salsas were super flavorful, but not very spicy. The tacos wow. I got a carne asada, al pastor, barbacoa, and lengua taco. You can tell that they made this to order. Not a bunch of meat sitting around. Fresh, hot, juicy and delicious. Will be back. read more

What a wonderful place! This little hole in the wall is a hidden gem. Family owned and operated restaurant serving authentic Mexican food. The owners were extremely nice people who welcomed us and conversed with us just as if we had all know each other our entire lives. The food was fantastic! I had the chicken enchiladas covered with a chocolate Molé poblano's sauce and served with rice, beans, and Pico de gallo. Melissa had the chicken enchiladas covered with a tangy green Molé sauce. We loved everything about this restaurant; the hospitality and the authenticity of the decor and food! I'm very happy we stumbled on this restaurant, and we will definitely be back! read more

El Alamo Mexican Grill - Taco tray - Mexican Near Me - Manitowoc, Wisconsin

My second dine here, the first being last September so surprised at no listing on Yelp. I'll fix that. Bottom line: solid family style Mexican restaurant, sort of on the traditional side with tacos but also a nice selection of burritos and a few other offerings that don't offend but might be considered more Americanized Mexican (nothing wrong with that). Funky interior, no fuss, no muss (I'll upload photos if allowed), and shares a space and access point with a Mexican grocery next door run by the same proprietor. The grocery is not only a must visit, but you actually pay the bill for your meal there which is an interesting twist. Near as I can tell, everything here is prepared from scratch including the chips which appear to be made and fried locally in-house. A bit crunchy and uneven but sure prefer these to the stuff out of a bag most places are serving. A real nice salsa heavy on cilantro and onions (bravo) and on this visit they had an optional sauce bar you could serve yourself pico de gallo, pickled jalapenos, green and red sauces of varying temperature, pickled hot veggies, etc. Nice. Had the four enchilada platter meal with rice, beans and a healthy serving of lettuce and onions. No plate over-run with melted orange or white cheese, thank you. Companion had a pork burrito that was large enough to fill him and will serve as his full lunch on Monday (think big). Good service, *great* Latin music on the corner stereo, your typical Mexican painting on the wall, plastic hanging decorations, you get the drift. Meal came quick and was very tasty. This is your typical solid Mexican neighborhood joint without any pretense. Good selection of Mexican beers, priced affordable. Worth the visit. I only get in this area of the country a few times a year and this a hard choice to say no to for a solid affordable meal. Pretty sure I'll be back. read more

Holy Baby Jesus all precious in the manger is this place delicious. The restaurant shares the store that is next door so it is a bit confusing to locate the entrance. It is a small place with only about a dozen four toppers. The decor is kind of tacky Mexican but you kind of expect that; bright colors, sombrero hat, other nick nacks. The girl working the register at the store had to walk over to seat me, next time I'll just seat myself and yell out I'm here. She ran down the specials and one of them was chicken mole. I ordered the special and a horchata. She then brought out my drink and homemade chips and salsa! The chips were not from a bag they were actual deep fried trotilla strips and salsa that was actually spicy. Once my food arrived I tasted the rice and beans, sorry that is my test for good Mexican food. They were delicious and the homemade tortillas made them taste even better. They brought out an actual ample quantity (6) corn tortillas for my dish. The chicken was ok just boiled chicken, but the mole sauce was absolutely awesome. Sweet, chocolatey, and after you swallow the mild spiciness lingered on your palate. The waitress peaked he head out a few times to make sure all was well. When you think of cheap awesome Mexican restaurant that has an old lady in the back making food fresh just for you like you are pat home, this is the place. Don't expect great service or sterile cleanings. Expect homemade from the heart food from a hole int the wall restaurant. read more

Service: Excellent!!!! Server/hostess was very polite, kind, and attentive! Food: Amazing flavor and great portions. The torta was huge, packed with lettuce, pork, beans, sour cream and fresh avocados. The red enchiladas was delicious. Stuffed with steak and served with rice, beans, and lettuce. We really enjoyed the food!!! Price: We paid about $16 with tax for the enchilada platter (8.99) and the huge torta (5.99). Just a side note BRING CASH! Their card machine does not work. Ambiance: Authentic feel, clean, and nice atmosphere. Overall: We had a great experience and enjoyed our food very much. We will definitely be back when we're in town. read more

El Alamo Mexican Grill - Mexican Near Me - Manitowoc, Wisconsin

This is one of my favorite places to go. Small town or big town, this place can compete with the best of them. I've had the Mexican style tacos before. Tripas (Tripe) - Get this crunchy (fried) and you'll love it. It's got the airy, crispy texture of a fresh pork-rind. Carne Asada (Steak) - Flavorful, but I've had better at some other places. Lengua (Tongue) - Just about as good as anywhere else. Nice and tender. Pastor (Seasoned Pork) - This is my favorite. The meat is so tender and savory that you won't need any salsa to make it flavorful. The Torta sandwich is also great. The bread looks big but don't be fooled as it's quite airy and light in texture. You won't feel like you're biting into a loaf of bread. Get it with the Pastor pork and you'll keep ordering it again. read more

We ordered vegetarian fajitas for takeout. Made with a delicious mix of perfectly carmailzed strips of potatoes, sweet bell peppers and onion. Made it a meal for two with rice and beans. We made guacamole at home and heated up a couple more tortillas; the order came with 4. The hot hot green sauce, hot red sauce and a bit of cheese and sour cream (included) made the meal feel like we were in Mexico. Again, potatoes and onions had such a nice caramelization! Great cooking! read more

It's a combination restaurant and grocery. We decided to pop in. My Mom and I had a steak and a chicken chimichangas. They were huge. We really enjoyed them, made authentic and delicious. The staff was also very nice and greeted us as soon as we walked in. The prices were great too. Would go back there again if I make it back to the area. read more

We found El Alamo through Yelp. Like previous reviews stated, portions are generous, service polite, and cash required. They offer a large variety of fillings. Sides, such as rice or beans, are extra. Maybe we were there on an off day, because we found our taco and chimichanga fillings (steak, barbacoa beef, pork, chicken) to be poorly seasoned and almost flavorless. The tortilla chips and tortillas on our entrees were very greasy. Thankfully, lettuce, tomato, onion and cilantro garnishes were fresh and abundant; they improved the taste and helped offset greasiness. It's possible we'd eat there again, but would opt for something like enchiladas to hopefully increase flavor and decrease greasiness. read more

Try the lengua and al pastor. Food and michelada were excellent, place is clean, salsas are good and reasonably priced.

I actually really like this restaurant, and all of its quirks. It feels kind of tucked away on a side street and it doesn't look like a lot from the outside, but the inside is decorated beautifully and is very bright and vibrant. The waitstaff is very friendly and eager to help with anything you may have questions on. The food is authentic and scrumptious, not to mention full of flavor! I swing through here once every couple of months, and have not been disappointed! read more

I was very impressed with El Alamo, the Carne Asada tacos are among the best I've ever eaten. Great portion size, wonderful flavor and their salsa is top-notch. Fantastic restaurant with awesome food and great service. We stopped by on a road trip and very glad we picked this spot- much better than the typical chain restaurant meals. read more

Wow. If I happened to be driving by this place I wouldn't have stopped in if you paid me. The only reason we found it was because of Yelp. This place is adjacent to a Mexican grocery store. So, service can be extremely slow (same dude working the store was also our waiter) but the food was awesome and authentic. Guacamole was made fresh, margaritas were excellent and the food fantastico! BTW I am not related anyway to this place, just an extremely satisfied Yelper. Thank you Yelp another positive experience. read more

This place is so good, and so cheap, I'm considering moving to Manitowoc just so I can eat here every day. It's a fairly small place attached to a Mexican grocery, so don't expect much in the way of atmosphere. That's okay - you've come for the food! We happened upon the $1 taco lunch special. Four of us ate full meals for well under $20. The al pastor tacos had pineapple in the meat, giving it a delicious tanginess. The bistec tacos were really flavorful, with extremely tender meat. The chicken was juicy and tender. On your way up to Door County or Green Bay, or headed South? Well worth the detour to El Alamo. read more

I saw the good reviews, had some time, so decided to try. Maybe it wasn't my lucky night. I had combo #1. Flavor was good, but meat, allegedly beef, loaded, and i don't mean a piece, I'm talking about 90% inedible, unless you're a raccoon or a feral pig. Honestly, piled with disgusting gristle and fat. I thought i saw an eyelet and part of the "Converse" logo in it. Simply gut wrenching. The waitress/cook/bartender/store clerk lady (yes, all the same person) asked me how it was, i told her not good, she apologized, said they just changed meat (maybe its adidas now?!) and said there was nothing she could do. Maybe i'll go back in and suggest getting shoes from Goodwill, they're bound to be older and hopefully more tender. The "beef" here, at least tonight, was the worst food i have ever been served, anywhere, anytime. read more

Have had them before but went there today for the lengua and pastore tacos and got sick after eating. They've been very good in the past but I think the meat was bad read more

Ordered a delivery two and a half hours ago and it just arrived. I wish I could blame the temperature of the food on the delivery service, but the tacos were really hot, the burrito was cold, and all of the rice and beans were cold (the cheese was melted into them so it was hot at some point). I'm not going to eat it and it was not worth $40 for two people to eat here, much less pay additional money to get it delivered. read more

Was traveling from Milwaukee to Green Bay and used Yelp to find this place. A true hole-in-the-wall that is attached to a Mexican grocery store. Husband was skeptical but when the guacamole came out, we felt like we were in his mom's kitchen. The chicken enchiladas were incredible and authentic. My husband got the mole and thought it was incredible. If you are adventurous, order something from the specials menu. Not much for service-- but when you eat the food-- you won't care! read more

Best tacos & burritos ever!!! :) Not super fast - but very authentic, great prices and always great food. I love this place!

Went here after church one Sunday because of the rave reviews on Yelp-- and I'm delighted to say that I wasn't disappointed! Delicious, authentic, and A LOT! My wife and I each ordered combination plate and could not finish it all (happy to say we were able to take home leftovers). The pulled pork and the chicken were wonderful on our tacos & tostadas; I was in cilantro heaven! Picked up a package of sweet bread when we checked out. Delicious! We'll definitely be back! read more

If you want to try some very low quality Mexican food with no taste or passion put into the food this is the place to go! As some of us know they use very old ingredients and very lo quality meats for their food I've tried all of their tacos the meat being very bland an the tortilla being as hard as a tortilla the salsas are the only decent tasting condiment on their tacos everything else has no flavor and smells old try for yourself but half of manitowoc tries not to go here because of the low quality they put into their Mexican food everyone knows about it maybe when they decide to get a professional chef or someone that knows what they are doing when it comes to cooking I'll try again but until then read more

This was once our go to place for Mexican food. Vegetarian friendly is appreciated. It is an unpretentious little hole in the wall well off the main drag. There is a cool little mercado next door. Cheapest place in town to buy limes. We usually get enchiladas, burritos or tostadas. They're all good; and the portions are muy grande They also have a salsa bar. My wife and I love really hot sauces; and we really like the choices here. Waitstaff is friendly and efficient; and yes, they will tolerate your attempts at speaking rusty Spanish with a smile. Our problem is with inconsistency. Most of the time the food is stellar. But every now and then you can get a clinker. Last time we were there the red sauce was not up to usual par and it stained my beard red for a couple of days. I suspect red dye 40. In my opinion coal tar dyes should be avoided like the plague. But that seemed to be an aberration. Now we split our Mexican food patronage between Alamo, El Tequila, and Casa Mexico in Two Rivers. read more

Stopped for a quick lunch here after taking the ferry from Ludington back to Manitowoc. The place was empty on a Sunday afternoon, but the food was tasty and not expensive. Wish they had told us about the salsa bar which has something like a dozen homemade sauces available to try. (The one they bring you to the table is less interesting, thin and somewhat salty.) We only found out about it when we saw somebody else dipping in, and by then we were pretty much done. If they don't mention it, and you're eating in, help yourself. read more

We eat here once or twice a week usually. I get to practice my rusty spanish and the employees and owners always smile at my attempts. Don't just order off the menus on the table. Ask what the specials are. There is a special board, but it's all in spanish. I like to use my smart phone to find out what the specials are. The caldo's (soups) are very generous servings. They are meal sized, so don't think about ordering anything else with the soup. Try their gorditas or sopas. This is the kind of food your grandma would cook if she was mexican. OLE! read more
