Building decor inside seems old. Reminded of the bar on Cheers. But it worked well. I noticed that the music playing didn't seem to fit the decor. Didn't seem relaxing? No idea how to explain it but that's the first time I've ever noticed something like that. Waitress was very nice and friendly. She was very efficient and checked on us often. I had the Alfredo with all the vegetables in it. I was a bit disappointed in it. It was good but now WOW! which is what i was hoping for. Perhaps i should have ordered a big juicy steak. The salad came out on about a 6 inch saucer plate. It left a LOT to be desired. After some salt and pepper, my alfredo worked out pretty well. I will leave out how it make my stomach feel about an hour late. Not sure I would eat here again but only because i was a visitor and would want to try other places in the area. read more

Both of us had 8oz tenderloins with mushrooms, I expected an extra charge for the mushrooms, but from the looks of it they split a can of mushrooms between us. I decided instead of going out of town for my birthday I decided to celebrate it here! Got a whiskey sour at the bar and after about 10 minutes I got seated at a table! I ordered mac n' cheese and bacon with chicken on top which was delicious! I then got a rum sour during the end of my meal! The drinks were good and the meal was excellent. They gave me a free dessert for being my birthday and got a piece of chocolate cake with peanut butter frosting which was really good as well! The other choices for dessert were different types of cheesecake. In all, the total cost for my birthday celebration dinner was like around $30 bucks with tip! The only complaint I could really find is that it got kind of noisy with a bunch of high school girls in the upper back making a lot of noise! Great restaurant & lounge in Manitowoc. Their kitchen does an outstanding job on steaks. If you're into burgers, they pride themselves on their in-house 3/4 pound hamburgers which are outstanding... but for dinner, have a steak. They also have daily specials and usually several great menu specials for Saturday night. Tonight, I had one of the specials: A 20 oz. NY Angus steak (see the pic) dinner with soup or salad and choice of potato. They know how to make steak here. I ordered it rare. It came rare, but also had a good char and grill burns on both sides of the steak. The plus.... $19.99. Wow. Cheryl had grilled eggplant and pasta/marinara (see the pic). She said this place makes the best grilled egg plant. I'll take her word for it (LOL!). They also have outstanding deserts here BTW, usually house made, as was the Turtle Cheesecake (see the pic) we shared today. This place will never disappoint you. read more

The City of Manitowoc is not the place it once was, its seems some of the larger businesses that put this city on the map have either downsized or left town in the middle of the night while no one was paying attention. The downtown area and many of the businesses reflect this downturn in the economy and this old steakhouse give one the impression that times were better than there are today. It obvious as soon as you walk through the door that this place is tired, it's dark and mushy and the décor has been outdated for decades. I found the old bar was scattered with a few old timers sipping their draft beers and old-fashions from the same glasses that generations before them have, I doubt anything has changed here since this place first opened it's doors except for the names of the characters pouring the booze and serving the food. We were met upon arriving by a friendly hostess who walked up the step to the dining room like she's done a thousand times before with the same enthusiasm I'm sure. The dim lighting and dark décor is not the ambiance I needed for a business dinner and it's almost as if something was lurking in the darkness and was the subject of our conversation until our server arrived. She was friendly but direct telling us right up front if we ordered certain dishes it could take awhile like she was almost guiding to a lighter fare - well I was told by the hotel concierge that this was an old fashion steakhouse where the meat purveyor brought the beef here with the hoofs still on and that all the steaks were cut to order and the steaks were prime beef and cut thick before being prepared on an old grill that has seen more beef than a cattle drive in the 1870's so I wasn't buying the lighter fare story. I ordered the "sizzler" a mammoth sirloin that was served on a hot platter standing as tall as my drink glass with a pad of steak butter that flowed down the edge of this roast and smoked as it hit the plate below. I ordered it rare after reading the reviews before arriving but it arrived cooked perfectly medium at best, but I must admit it was tender and filled with flavor. Knowing it would be impossible to consume it all I concentrated on the beef and let my half eaten house salad and baked potato lie. Our server checked in from time to time to check on us and even smirked knowing eating this ginormous steak would be near impossible. I felt I was on an episode of Man vs Food and I'd certainly be the loser here. I left with the impression they delivered a good value and that I wouldn't be eating anymore red meat for awhile. Always do a good job. Attention to detail and customer satisfaction is a commodity that's taken a big hit since the pandemic but Shannon, the owner, runs a tight ship. This was a huge disappointment. I ordered portobello stuffed tenderloin. Medium rare. I got two slices of well done tenderloin with a slice of mushroom in between. Service: Decent depending on who you get. I've been here several times and I would highly recommend going to get drinks here vs. food. The bartenders are usually peachy, but the actual waitresses not so much. Drinks=delicious, they have a great specialty drink menu throughout the week. One of the top 5 Bloody Mary's in Manitowoc. Atmosphere: Very dark, very outdated. The floor looks like it could use some serious shampooing or even replacement. The chairs are a bit sticky on the backs of them I've noticed. Bar is a decent size. Food: Worst part about this place. Frozen salmon cakes, premade salads, overcooked steaks, poor quality of prime rib (90% fat vs. actual meat). The last meal I had there was 2 years ago and I had ordered the prime rib, because lets face it, this is Manitowoc, WI and there is zero creativity with the supper club menu. I had ordered the queen cut, by the time I had cut all of the fat away from the actual edible portion, it was stone cold. I asked for a refund or even a discount due to poor quality of product and they said no, and then proceeded to ask me if I wanted a doggy box for the stone cold steak. Never again will I eat there after this experience. Poor quality, poor quantity, poor price, poor customer accommodation. That was a $30+ meal I ate nothing of other than the dinner salad (bland as all get out) and had to pay full price for. read more

I have been on a lifelong quest to find the perfect hamburger. I have a scale of one through five, that I use to rate the burgers I have sampled. In North Carolina there is a chain called five guys. Their hamburger I have rated at 4.50. Although I have still not found the 5.0, the burger I had last night at Harborside I give a 4.75!! They are enormous and tasty. The gigantic roll which houses the burger, is made by a local bakery. They are a treat in themselves. As an appetizer I had the chowder - corn, sausage, chicken and potatoes. Oh my..., to die for. Our waitress, Kayla, was efficient and charming. The only negative, was we had a long wait. For this reason, reservations are recommended, at least on a Saturday. We are only in Wisconsin for two weeks, but I think we will be making another trip to Harborside before we return to the sunny south. read more

First off, it's not on the Harbor. They were friendly but the food was marginal. I had a chicken with pasta dish and the chicken was cooked to death...completely dry. I never send back food but I did send this dish back. 15 minutes later I got the same dish back. The chicken was cooked to death....very dry. I ate some and just called it day. The chef clearly doesn't know how to cook chicken. I'm sure there are other choices in town that are better. Nice dining room and bar but the food I had was marginal...even on the second try. Ok, it's true that I am childhood friends with the owner of Harborside, however this review is based on a recent visit. I grew up in the area and visit family often, I went with my mom for dinner. We were seated promptly and there were several others dining as well as at the bar, good thing since empty restaurants are a bad sign. The decor is has a "supper club" feeling, but this is Wisco, so that's authentic. I wonder if Harborside made it into Dave Hoekstra's "The Supper Club Book". We started off with the red pepper hummus with toasted pita, it tasted very good and it had the right consistency (I hate runny hummus). Garden salads came with our entrees, veggies were fresh. I had the veggie pasta alfredo and my mom had the walleye...and we both cleared our plates! I think living in Chicago has set my expectations for Italian food quite high - pasta was al dente, veggies were crispy (don't like mushy), and the sauce was seasoned well and had the appropriate consistency. We were comp'ed cheesecake, had to take it home since we had no room left! When I got to it, it was super delicious, apparently desserts are made in house. The mojitos I had were tasty as well. Generous food portions. Two thumbs up for guest WIFI. Service was fine, food arrived in a timely manner. So...if you are looking for a traditional restaurant experience that is not a chain, and possesses some local personality, visit Harborside. Manitowoc doesn't have a foodie culture or restaurant scene to speak of, so keep that in mind if you are visiting from an urban area. Set your expectations appropriately and you won't be disappointed. read more

We were in town for the night staying at the Best Western across the street. The hotel gave us coupons and free drinks so we could not resist. Great "old timey" supper club. There was a hostess at the door that greeted us and gave us a number and told us to wait at the bar. Nice barservice,too. Our waitress came to find us at the bar and told us she would seat us as soon as she could- nice touch! I had the Walleye panfried the steakfries- it was very good. They also had some fantastic bread with olive oil dipping sauce. Great service and good food. We also had cheese cake for dessert which was excellent. read more

I came here last night and had a fantastic dinner! The inside of this restaurant is very classic, and well put together, with lots of darker colors and artistry portraying the rat pack and other legends. The bar area is absolutely gorgeous, and all of the staff is extremely professional. I ordered the fettuccine alfredo with crab, shrimp and mixed vegetables, which came with a side salad, while my date ordered the 24 oz sirloin. It was all cooked to perfection. Lots of great flavors in our dishes. I will definitely be returning here for date night!! read more

Part of our road trip included taking the S.S. Badger ferry from Michigan to Manitowoc. We got there a little after 3pm and there was only one other party there besides us. There is a full bar right when you walk in and the dinning area is towards the right. Food: Overall, the food was great. I will focus on what I had: Big Jim's Apparatus! This is the biggest burger I have ever had (2 patties, 3 buns, mayo, ketchup, lettuce, tomato). The beef was delicious and I barely finished it. Sister had gumbo and enjoyed it but thought it may have been to bland for those used to spicy ones. Step-mom had some type of lemon chicken and loved it. Father had salmon and thought it was okay but loved the artichoke and tomato soup. Drinks: The men had Heinekens and the ladies stuck with water. Nothing to report here. Service: The waitress was great. She explained the specials very well and spoke to us about the area without reservation. She seemed kind of shy in a very cute way. read more

Traveling thru. Airbnb host listed Harborside as a good place to eat. Hubby had Walleye. Really good: fresh, lightly battered, sautéed. I am here to praise the steak fries. Pommes soufflés is the French name for puffed French fries. Almost half our fries were puffed--crisp outside puffed away from a creamy potato center. We had them as an appetizer. I used to work as a docent at the Maritime Museum. People would often ask where was a close and good place to eat. I would direct them to the Harborside. Occasionally I would get feed back from the people that I sent there. Everyone agreed that the place has the best burgers they have ever eaten. As I haven't eaten red meat for over 50 years I took their word for it and passed it on. People complain that the decor is dated. What's wrong with a little retro? Some people go through their lives looking for things to carp about. A very nice bar with excellent cocktails will keep you entertained until your table is ready. But the place is known for its seafood and its steaks (again something I have to take other peoples' word for). My wife loves the walleye. I am fond of their shrimp dishes. Their fish sandwiches are very good. The appetizer choices are outstanding. Service is efficient and friendly. Yeah, the Harborside is old school which I find appealing, as I am old school myself. My one complaint is that they make the mistake that many restaurants do, they push the limits on their frying oil. Other than that this is a good place to get a satisfying meal. If you have just finished touring the Maritime Museum this is where you'll want to go to refuel. A nice dining experience awaits you. read more

We were trying to kill an hour before taking the ferry across lake Michigan and found this little place. Very nice and clean. The fries and onion rings were super. The wife had a party melt, I had a hot pastrami sandwich. Both were very tasty. Had kinda that old Chicago bar feel, pictures of Al Capone and The Rat Pack. Had dinner here with five other work colleagues. Great service, reasonable pricing and great portions. Two had the 20 oz Sizzler steak (both rare) and neither man finished it. Two had the Southwestern Grouper - absolutely delicious! I can't remember what the last two had, but all had clean plates. The server took great care of us. The Italian food is delicious. I always watch their Facebook page for their nightly specials. I don't know if I've ever gotten the same thing twice because so many of the specials are so good. The French Onion soup I got the other day with my pasta carbonara was very good, with croutons and melted cheese. I always get the Reuben soup when it's available. read more

Friday evening I called to make sure there was no wait., was told not anymore. Good because We had a long day and wanted to eat!! Culvers was the option if we had too long a wait after the late work day. We arrived about 8:15, given a number and said we can wait at the bar. Ordered a bourbon Old Fashioned. It was good except for the juvenile maraschino cherry, even BW's has Filthy Cherries. We were quickly seated and our orders taken. There were only 4 other tables seated at this time and all already had their orders in. I opted for the pan fried walleye with mashed potatoes with a cup of French onion soup and my associate ordered the 3/4 lb mushroom Swiss burger, we both only wanted water at this point. When the main course arrived I asked about my soup. "I'm sorry I'll bring it out", guess that's my dessert...As we proceeded to eat I thought my fish was overcooked and the one side of the fillets was definitely dark brown. My associate ate his burger which looked impressive along with his steak fries. Once dinner was consumed, I had my soup, it was pretty good. Our waitress returned, first time since bringing my soup to ask if we wanted any dessert, we declined. Got the check, paid and departed. My associate stated he thought the service was terrible with no offers for water refills or even to check on us. He added his burger wasn't that good it was dry. Well my fish wasn't that good either. Guess Culvers less the Old Fashioned would have been a better option. I travel a lot for work and always try to find local establishments to patronize. I try to leave fair reviews. There was no excuse for poor service and poor food quality, when your not busy. Sorry to say but I can't recommend Harborside in Manitowoc. We love to go there for sandwiches. Have had dinner too and it was good, but prefer the lunches. Nice atmosphere, but not fancy - Jeans and a tshirt here are just fine. They have a full service bar. The wait staff are always quick and friendly. Their specials change so it is nice to get variety. Sandwiches are good size and get a good bang for your buck when you order. Our fav is the grilled ham and cheese. They have a wall filled with certificates from the Lakeshore of awards they have won from consumer voting.. it spans years worth of awards for their food and service. I would concur that they are well deserved. We have no complaints at all about anything in this restaurant. Parking is on the street, and sometimes have to park a bit away which isnt always fun in winter, but it is never more than a block to walk in. read more

I had high hopes after reading some of the yelp reviews, but overall, I was let down by my experience here. Stopped in for lunch, and the food was underwhelming. The fried cheese curds were okay, but greasy and nowhere NEAR as good as the Courthouse Pub. My french dip was bland, and my wife's burger was okay, but nothing to write home about. Very poor all-around. Went with my girlfriend and were one of two tables in the place. The first issue was the amount of time everything took. 30 minutes just to get chips and dip (we were one of two tables in the whole restaurant). Then another 20 mins for entrees - chicken wrap and a chicken pita with chili. Then the food itself was very unsatisfying. The chili had three tiny pieces of meat, the Caesar wrap was ranch, and the pita was completely drenched on the bottom in grease, yuck! To make it all worse was the poor service. We felt like we were a nuisance to the busy work the waitress was doing at empty tables and in the bar, as well as on her cell phone... Overall, a disappointing experience. If in Manitowoc, go to the Courthouse Pub. (Also - there is nothing Greek about Harborside, don't be fooled). read more

If you like burnt food this is the place to go. A local recommended this place for their generous portion and home style cooking; maybe they meant the cook did not have professional training or experience, and the portions was nothing to write home about. All the seafood dishes I had were very disappointing: the Cajun shrimp was burnt, the mussels were overcooked, and the shrimp etoufee had way to much cayenne pepper...I should have sent everything back to the kitchen. my friend had the steak and was warned not to order medium well bc the steaks tend to be charred on the outside, doesn't the cook know how to setup a high heat and a low heat zone on the grill? read more

Had a bad customer experience here once sat next to the bar asked to be moved was extremely smokey and loud they refused to move us then our steak was over cooked they wouldn't remake it poor service and overpriced for the service rude I even rounded the tip to the next dollar. read more

I did not have a good experience here. The service was so sloooow. We waited 15 minutes before our presence was even acknowledged, and then another 1 hour for our food. Granted we had a party of 12, but we were the only people there in the afternoon on a weekday. The food was awful. I had the shrimp and crab salad. The shrimp was so over cooked that it was rubbery and tasted like plastic. The Baked French Onion soup was too salty to eat. Which was made worse by the fact that we were left with no water for too long before we were checked on after our food was brought out. Never again. ‍ read more
