What's up with the reviews? This place was bomb. I was so surprised for a small town. We came in here for a work lunch, we started by sharing some of their fries (so hard to choose which ones). I'm a saucy gal, and they do it right. SO MUCH FLAVOR. Then I switched to the San Fran noodles and wow. Same thing. The cook is really great at marrying sauces, toppings, and flavors. They have a talent because I don't think I ate anything I didn't like. Special shout out to their unique fried cheese because what was that? Amazing. Such a great meal. Service was good but I don't even care about that because the food was so fantastic. We were heading back to work so couldn't drink but their beer menu also looked amazing. Food didn't arrive until an hour and a half after ordering!! Party of 2. Ordered a sandwich and a grain bowl. I'd expect that wait at a busy 4 star Michelin restaurant in New York. This place is advertised as gastropub food, which is intended and designed to be quick food to make. My inclination is that they wanted us to wait there as long as possible to keep ordering more drinks. It took so long I thought the chef had quit mid shift. Food: underwhelming and average. Nothing you couldn't make at home with minimal effort. Tasted greasy. Even if it was good, I couldn't have appreciated it because the wait was SO long I was starving and dizzy from low blood sugar by the time it arrived. Unacceptable. Will not go back and would not recommend. I'd only recommend in the event you're practicing intermittent fasting or on an intense diet. read more

Great little find while in Manitowoc at the advice of a local bartender. This place has a distinct flavor to itself; it's down town burger but the twist is a little bit of Asian twist. It's a weathered looking bar/restaurant which just adds to its overall flavor. The restaurant is long and spacious. We were quickly seated and waited on. I had the bowl of spicy Noods and my wife had the spring roll bowl. Both were very good but I liked mine the best. Nice little gem in the heart of Manitowoc. Hopefully will stop again! read more

Definitely recommend! From the outside I'm not gonna lie I'd probably just pass by as a visitor to the area thinking it's just your neighborhood bar/restaurant. We looked up menus however before heading out and thought it looked really good which is why we went. We were very pleased by the food! So flavorful and a great value! Don't pass them up!! My boyfriend and I went here to celebrate our 2 year anniversary here at the same spot we went on our first date. So it holds a special place in our hearts. We like their creative menu! The fried cheese and Smokey fries were much better than our mains. The spicy noods, I cannot recommend, they were a little sour and lacking. I added katsu chicken which looked great, but is not well seasoned, just crunchy. Additionally, they were out of a handful of items, didn't have any hot coffee made and did not offer to put on a fresh pot. Service was nice and attentive. read more

Went here to meet up with a friend before a meeting. Ordered and the food took FOREVERR, at least over an hour. Food was fine, but I wasn't overly impressed. It was so stressful because I had to go to a meeting after this, but didn't want to leave my friend with the bill for what I had ordered. There was no communication about how long it would take, and the server just said sorry once for the "long wait". read more

Been traveling for weeks and getting tired of the same old sandwich's pizza wings etc etc. Ryan's has some amazing Asian influenced dishes that don't fit into even a fusion mold. Don't be turned off by the exterior or the bar feel on the inside - the food here is amazing and you'll be happy you decided to stay. From the outside, Ryan's on York doesn't look like much and I'll admit we landed here after learning our first choice was closed on Mondays. But things have a nice way of working themselves out. We arrived around 3pm. The bar was almost full but there were several open tables. But the time we left around 4:30pm the place was jam packed. They were out of some ingredients which meant several dishes were not available but if you're like us you would have had trouble deciding between 3-4 dishes to begin with so if you don't get your first choice you'll likely be satisfied regardless with your dish. The eclectic menu and broad range of flavors and types of dishes was eye-catching/impressive - not a menu you'd expect to see in Manitowoc, Wisconsin. We highly recommend you order a fry dish to start. We loved the RoY fries. A small is one potato so share and go with the bigger size. You won't regret it. A great vegetarian option is the grain bowl + tofu. We also ordered the Spicy noodles + Korean pork. We both polished off our bowls and almost all the fries. There was one server so service could have been faster but it wasn't terrible. There is a tall shelf of boardgames that you can check out which was a nice feature. The place is small and we had a baby in a stroller. If we didn't get a booth I'm not sure we would have been able to stay. Or a table in back but who wants to sit outside a men's bathroom? If I could change one thing about this place it would be the seating. Less high boys, more comfy seating for parties of 4-6. read more

Stopped in for supper after listening to a band in town and the menu looked interesting and the place was recommended by a local. From the outside it looked busy, but we went in anyway and were able to sit down right away at a table. We sat in the back room, which was quieter, but it's also the gaming room so there was more noise when people played darts or pinball. It took a while for someone to take our drink order and longer to get the drinks and then put in a food order. We were informed right away that they were out of shrimp, so anything with shrimp was out. They have a good beer selection, with a few locals on tap and many others in bottles and cans. I had the Katsu Melt which was good and my wife had the Blueberry Pork Tacos which were good, but the meat wasn't evenly distributed between the 3 tacos. We also had a single order of the Ninja turtle fries which were a bit unexpected - the potatoes were soggy from the marinara so more like poutine than typical fries. I had the York Street Manhattan which was interesting - a bit sweeter than I like due to the ginger liqueur though it provided a nice bite. In general, we had a good experience and would eat here again to try other items on their menu. read more

First impression walking in: Eh, it's a crusty townie bar. The interior is not what I would call aesthetic/vibey, but my mom loves this place so she insisted we give it a try during our visit to Manitowoc. We were here for late lunch on a Wednesday, and I was surprised by how crowded it was (maybe due to the holiday break?) Those RoY fries are definitely where it's at. I had to split them with four people, but next time I'm getting my own haha! Also loved the Door County Mule (and variety of cocktails in general). We also enjoyed an order of the San Fran noodles. As someone coming from Indy, I liked seeing some more diverse food options in Manitowoc. Also, loved that most of the cocktails/wines were under $8--that's incredible. read more

This place was AMAZING! My friend and I split two entrees...the pickle RoY burger and the curry maple chicken naan, with a side of RoY fries. Every single bite was spectacular. What an awesome stop!! This place offers a great menu with its own uniqueness. Offers a full bar and seating around a long bar. There are some tables for 2 and 4. Overall clean and good decor. Service was excellent. The fried cheese was interesting. Overall not a favorite of mine. It seemed a bit tasteless without the jam. The burger was the most unique flavored burger I have had. I say that in a good way. Don't let the look fool you as it's genuinely is homemade. The spicy noodles are just that spicy!! They were awesome. Our last day in Manitowoc we visited "Ryan's" and ordered the specials of the week, BBQ Lamb Sando and a Chicken Curry over Basmati. The curry was very good and included plenty of vegetables and chicken, the pulled (or bbq) lamb was outstanding. Wifey enjoyed her Pinot Grigio, while I was.....challenged with my Moscow Mule and had to order a second. We will return. read more

Ryan has created a gem on York! This is a special culinary destination. I love the menu with its homage to culinary callings from around the globe. Hidden gem in Manitowoc!! In town visiting family and Ryan's was one of few places open on Sunday. Walking in expected the usual bar food. We were blown away by both the quality and the selection. Started with the cocktails. Awesome!! Then ordered garlic fries and Brussels sprouts for the table for starters. Fries were crispy and delicious. Brussels sprouts were cooked perfectly and again, delicious. For entrees we had the triple zinger and summertime smash burgers and the San Fran Noodles and Egg Roll bowl with the fried chicken. Seriously everything was amazing. Service was great as well. Very friendly and accommodating. If you're under 40 be sure to bring ID. We will definitely be back!!! read more

Best food in town. Sam is the best waiter hands down, have a great recovery with your hand; you made us feel at home even though we were lovely and the last table you sat yesterday! If you want an amazing beer selection, great food, friendly people, and a true 'local bar' feel, Ryan's on York is your place. I visited three times over the course of two days, and it felt like home after the very first visit. Friendly locals, a great staff, and Ryan working alongside them, makes this place feel like Cheers ... NORRRRRM! Food prices are so reasonable (Burgers were only $7!?!) so add some Fork Fries, for a huge blast of flavor. Also had the San Fran Noodles with Pork, for dinner. So yummy ... Spicy PB&J: 3.82/5. Burger cooked perfectly. Hard roll perfect. Bacon, a little overdone. Crispy perfection for me but not for the general public. Spicy jam sauce, great heat level. Great distribution. Peanut butter sauce found lacking. Needs more. Wouldn't know it was a PB&J without seeing the drips of light brown peanut sauce. I stopped in with a friend this past weekend, and while it wasn't my first time trying Ryan's on York, I'm not from the area so I don't come in often. I ordered a Jack O'Lantern mule, which was really tasty- made from homemade pumpkin puree, it was the perfect fall treat. My friend and I split orders of fried cheese and Greek fries. The fried cheese is amazing, especially with the berry dipping sauce. The gyro meat on the fries was perfectly cooked and seasoned. In the past I have ordered the Garlic San Fran noodles, which I hope never disappears from their menu so that I can get some on my next visit. read more

They have fixed the greasy fried green tomatoes, the rest of the food is pretty darn spot on, and I love the atmosphere and selection of beverages. Ate here last night. It was a very busy Sunday night. They fold us they just had a very busy rush and the food would take about 40 minutes, it came out in about 20. Everything was great. The food is always incredible. I did ask for no cilantro and it was covered in cilantro. I'm not complainer so I picked it all out. They would not let us order our food with our drinks. I don't understand the reasoning behind it. It's like they want any food service to take as long as it possibly can. I've come several times and the service is always just incredibly slow. Don't go if you're absolutely starving. Having worked as a server in Vegas this service style makes my eye twitch. The taco were killer but the ff special was out of this world. I sat at the bar so I had an enchanting conversation with an employee (bus boy...barback) who made recommendations.
